You are right about the GTs, about 90% of the available cars are V6s.
However, it looks like the local dealers have more premiums that deluxes - just tons of them.
This area isn't exactly known for its selection. If we have this kind of inventory here, Atlanta probably has anything you want from a base manual up to a fully loaded Saleen.
Thanks, dbauer. I know I'm going to be considered "sexist", but it's my sister afterall. So, I'm allowed.....
She's a female. I love her....well....like a sister. She wants what she wants, when she wants it. It's got to be a GT and it's got to be a 5 speed stick (what can I say, you gotta love a girl who won't have anything to do with a mamby-pamby automatic). She found a couple on the lot, but not in the color she wants (red). When she told me the dealer woudln't budge from MSRP (she said one of them wanted $2K over MSRP:-0
She said she would order it and the dealer told her 6-8 weeks. If what you're saying is correct, that's wildly optimistic, correct?
You a Ford dealer? If so, what part of the country? Why are they so back ordered?
...... Personally I really like the RX8's .. but sometimes the manufacturer can miss the market, the design, maybe the appeal, perhaps the size and this new horsepower thing is waaay overblown, it's very hard to second guess the market, hey who ever thought the Element was going to be a winner (Yikes.!)
As far as the Mustangs.? I think they're going to have a field day, the new Coupe and the new convert, people were talking today about the convertible Mustang commercials from the Super Bowl, not that Philly went into a coma .l.o.l.. most of the Ford dealers I know from Miami to Milwaukee already have (paid) waiting lists, we will have to see, but I'm sure the prices will come down, a good negotiater on a cold, snowy and windy day should get a better deal, if ya know what I mean - it sure works at the Yankee Boat shows .........
ford dealer, among others. im in the midwest region. yes, 6-8 weeks is VERY optimistic...it kind of depends on how many orders they have actually made, though. we have 61 mustang GTs still in the order bank, unbuilt. because of our allocation, which is very large, they will deliver around 12-14 per month. that puts us deep into july/august.
if the dealer hasnt ordered many against their allocation, you might do a little better, but it will likely still be may/june at the earliest.
make sure she doesnt walk out on an MSRP deal though.
Terry...What do you think of this price? A pretty desirable model.. One of the last of the air-cooled cars.. has the wide-body.. Haven't seen it, but the price looks low.. Local new Porsche dealer...
the kicker here, though, is that its not the "latest" thing. the big thing about the mustangs is the price point. LOTS more car for LESS money than the garbage they have built for the last 32 years.
the other thing is the build quality. i was amazed when they first showed up.
...... Someone needs to slap that guy upside his head - No pics, No history, No Drama.? ..
You can't sell a car like that in the dead of winter without the Day-Glo pics and a "story" - but it ain't my money (Thank goodness) .... $31,900.? if it's clean, super nice, serviced from yesterday - maybe has $26/$27ish in it, maybe a tinge more, he ain't trying to hurt anyone at $31,9 ~ of course he's not trying to sell it either ..l.o.l...
Terry....the "green birdies" in the last 4 minutes of the game looked like they were sucking some wind.....even after a two week layoff. They should have stayed away from the buffet lines on those cruise boats that were docked there. They still beat the spread, though.
Back to cars.....yeah, who would have thunk the market for the RX8s is what it is around here. Great cars. Just over the last 3 months, a flood of them have hit the market. Dealer's still have tons of new '04s still on their lots. Still don't see many on the used ads around, though. Thanks for looking up those prices. I'll assume they're auction prices, correct?
I'm just waiting to get a build date on the 'vette. Hopefully, the Chevy store doesn't change their tune once word gets back to them they went high on the RX8 trade (got a singed deal and I gave them a 1,000 smackers deposit, if that means anything).
Dbauer...Terry....my sister originally wanted a GT 'vert. Dealer's told her "good luck getting one before the next year's snow flies". That pretty much left her out in the cold regarding a convertible (pun intended).
I assumed that plant rampup was the cause for the lack of GTs on the lots. I think I've actually seen 2 on the road...and only one was a GT.....that's it. Are you saying they're selling so well that the plant can't keep up with demand? The 500 is new, too and there's tons of those on the lots around here.
Dealership she's working with is probably the smallest in the area. They're known more for their sales of trucks than cars. So, maybe there's some hope for her. Just for giggles, I will tell her you said not to expect her order until somewhere around July. That should send her into a screaming hissy fit.
if she orders now, she can probably get a GT convertible before she gets a GT coupe.
the problem is that they priced the GT too low for its value. few are buying v6s, because you can get 300 HP for $24900. if the GT was about $2500 more, it would be alot more balanced.
as far as the 500 is concerned...its not a mustang.

The following is a bit of a guess, but it's a good one...
I didn't think they even made the Sport Trac with a 5sp manual. They do, however, come with a 5sp automatic. And whereever 5sp autos are common, I've seen many cars advertised as "5sp manual" by mistake.
So unless you've actually seen the four pedals down below -- counting the one for the emergency brake -- I wouldn't believe it's a 5sp stick.
Hi! I'm looking for some advice on trading my 2001 Highlander for a 2004 Sienna.
2001 Highlander is very basic 2WD 4CYL
Silver/Cloth interior
38,000 miles
Interior is super clean
Exterior has a couple of small scratches
Tires in good shape
Atlanta metro area. I've never traded a car before and thought I'd have the HL a long time, but our family is growing faster than planned! Don't know if I should sell it myself or trade it in.
What's this worth?? My mom wants to buy a little car to get her around until (IF) the Subaru comes home.
1996 Mazda Protege DX, 5-speed, am/fm/cd, no other options, 64k miles, white/grey, VERY clean except for a couple scuffs on the rear bumper.
Friend of mine who owns the car lot its sitting on says he bought it a few days ago at the repo auction in Anchorage. I beat him up and got to $3200, he won't go a penny lower, not even for me.

Your buying this for your boyfriend.? ..
Handshakers.? these are rare birds on a Sport Trac ..... we got the low miles, if the 02 is clean, great history, no paintwork, no I bounced off the curb at Wendy's and rolled into the K-mart parking lot, then it probably hits the table at in and around the tall $14's, maybe the low $15's .. down Retail Rd, the tall $16's - the 4wd and the low miles will save this one ...... the 01, 2wd - right.? .. low miles, the handshaker is no help, dealer might have the $10's in it, the $12 figure (or less) gets it home .....
Thanks for hosting this forum. Looks like a great resource to help consumers be realistic about car values. I know I have searched kbb .com and edmunds TMV and I wonder which is actually closer to what I could really get. My question is would it be worth it to try to market it and sell to a private party or should I just try and get the best trade in that I can? I am going to buy a new Subaru Legacy Outback and would like to trade in the Silverado pickup. Though I wonder since the dealer only sells Subaru, Acura, and Isuzu, will they even want a base pickup truck or will it be going to auction?
Exterior condition 7/10, paint looks new but there are a few small hail dimples, and the bed has a few dings and inside scratches from loading but nothing bad. The camper shell is about 10 years old and in fair condition, fiberglass with carpeted interior.
Should I replace the tires, or have the hail damage repaired? If I am going to market it myself, what is the best way (ebay, local paper, auto trader)?
Thanks again for you time and expert opinions.

In the Land of the big Mall .... the good news: the miles are low and it's a 4wd ~
the bad news: the rest of it needs some work, we got the handshaker, we have that crazy camper, some hail damage, V6 and the bed looks like it got into a cat fight, other than that - everything is going your way ..... trade side, in and around the low/mid $6's, might "maybe" get a dealer to waddle towards the $7 figure if he's Dyslexic, and off to the auction it goes ..
Me personally, it's actually a great vehicle down Retail Rd ... I would get that camper out, a visit to the Dent Dr, a superb detail by some pro's, finish any service, get some Sears rubber on sale, find me a cheap bedliner and get me a super 4/5 liner Ad going on in the Minni/St Paul paper - and $9,900 *asking* and send it south for the first $8,9/$9,5 ..... oh yeah, wait til' Spring and clean up the Camper thing, drop it on somebodys lawn and someone from somewhere will pay you too much for it ...............
My "little" sister is looking to me for help. While I didn't realize this at the time, her husband's uncle works for Ford. He says he can get her a Mustang at "A" plan? Presumably different than X plan (better by about $1K)? I told her she may get the 'vert before the coupe, but now she wants the trunk room of the coupe???????
She's making me nuts here. As I told her, the best way to get the details of the "A" purchase is through her husband's uncle. Apparently she thinks I have all the answers. What can you tell me about "A" plan? Are dealers ordering under this plan?
Hello, I'm in the market for a USED 2004 G35x. Probably something with 10k miles on it. Can anyone give me any experiences/feedback/prices they paid? I'm in the DC metro area(MD/VA/DC) Thanks.

$6,400 ..? sounds like all the money ...
You've had a big Tango at Taco Bell for the tune of $12,000 Big ones, the stoppers and rubber are weak, the color is no barn burner and a trailer hitch on the back of a XC is no lottery ticket .... $6,400 and $29,5 on the LL Bean .. your trading one great vehicle for another ....... enjoy.!
No the Taco Bell did not sit well with me at all. The new ll bean looks outstanding and takes to the road with enthusiasm. The misgivings of parting with an old friend are now being replaced by the excitement of making a new one. Thanks Terry. I appreciate it!
It seemed fair considering the car's condition and low miles. He said he brought it out of Anchorage and that added $300 to the bottom line......otherwise I could have had it for $2900. He's a good guy, I've bought a few cars from him over the years, never had him lie to me yet, in fact sometimes he's brutally honest to a fault!
Should know in the next day or two what's up with the Subaru. I might mention a diminished value claim, but then again, would that even work on a comprehensive claim? I'd imagine the car is going to be worth far less with a repair like this to it. I'd rather they total it.
I just want to keep you updated on this one, when I called the Caynne was already sold, I don't know how much it was sold for, but it was apparently a hot commodity. I've since then been looking at new Cayennes. I got a dealer with $46,195 MSRP, and I offered $43,695, and they accepted on the first shot. It's got auto with moonroof, that's pretty much it, am I getting a good deal?
I'm considering purchasing either a new\used Chevy Colorado or Dodge Dakota, gas mileage is one of my issues. I'm also trying to decide when the right time to buy is, should I wait until spring for more incentives etc... However, one thing I need to know is what I can expect for trade on my current truck, so here it is-
Location: Springfield, Illinois Area
2003 Dodge Ram Quad Cab SLT 4x4
40,000 miles
4.7 L V-8
Trailer-Tow Pkg
Power doors/windows,mirrors
Power driver seat
AM/Fm/CD
Limited Slip Rear End
Running Boards
Bed Liner
Tonneua Cover
Color: Black
Condition- small exterior ding on passenger door from shopping cart, paint condition good, oil change every 5K, engine/tranny in good condition, 4WD in good condition, no interior stains and non-smoker.
Any ideas on what I could expect on trade and suggestions on new purchase appreciated. I've been trying to research the gas mileage issue for Colorado's and Dakota's but still have not found info I'm comfortable with.
Condition: Excellent - always garaged, never driven in snow, been driven in rain about 10 times total.
Other: $4K+ in add-ons.
-Bassani Exhaust (x-pipe and cat-back exhaust)
-Eibach Pro-System Plus (shocks, struts, springs, and sway bars - lowers the car 1.5 inches)
-Caster Camber
-MAC cold-air intake w/ K&N air filter
-Pro 5.0 short throw shifter
-Mach-I chin spoiler
-Billett pedals and shift knob
-All above were professionally installed
Thanks for your time

In the land of Romeo .....
Well, you got all of that goomzy ga stuff .. unfortunately, all of that stuff doesn't sell and 99% of the human race doesn't want it, can we spell - stock.? ... but, we do have the super low miles, cared for, garaged, good color, etc, etc ..... remove as much as possible and put on the stock stuff, trade side, in and around the low/mid $12's, might "maybe" find a dealer that could wander towards the $13 figure, Maybe ....
Down Retail Rd, super detail, super Ad, all the paperwork, $16,490 *asking* and snatch the first $15/$16 .. your biggest enemy here: Ego .. as soon as the weather breaks up north there will be oodles of these for sale .. remember it's a Mustang GT, not a Baume Mercier .....
.... $43 and some change ..? sounds about fair .. owning a Porsche store is kinda like owning a Searay store, lots of folks lookin' and not a whole bunch buying .. try $42,9 and see what happens ...........
.. **looks like I can pick one of those up without navi for less than 30K. What is your opinion of the 2004 TL?** ...
Whats there to say.? .. well built, priced right, no visits to the service departments, will run forever, super resale, Acura hit the bullseye dead-on with the 02/03/04 and the 05's ........
first of all, ill explain the workings of ford's employee/vendor plans...
A plan is for the employee, spouse, and any direct-line relatives, such as siblings, parents, children, grandchildren, and any step or half versions of such.
Z plan is the same as A-plan, but for retirees.
D plan is also the same as A and Z plan, but for dealership employees.
X plan is a different animal all together. if you have a pulse, you can get x-plan. your sponsor, however, must be a ford employee or retiree, regardless of relation. x-plan is also given to outside vendors, such as parts suppliers, shippers (UPS, FedEx), etc...
your sister cannot get a-plan from an uncle-in-law. however, the uncle CAN sponsor her for the x-plan.
whether the dealership will order one using the x-plan is a different story. thats a dealer's decision to make. we still dont honor even employee a-plans on GTs. some dealers do, though.
Thanks for the input. I have found dealers willing to give $14K+ for it, but they also padded the cost of the new vehicle. I will definately sell it on the open market ASAP.
I'm going to put it up for $16,250. I hope I can get that because the car always gets compliments around town. Sadly, those that are in that market segment don't have very deep pockets (i.e. high school age guys).
**Whats there to say.? .. well built, priced right, no visits to the service departments, will run forever, super resale, Acura hit the bullseye dead-on with the 02/03/04 and the 05's ........
Terry.**
Always nice to have an expert opinion. I agree with you. The O4 is one of the most innovative cars I have seen in a long time. The DVD-Audio system is incredible.
Once we get the van sold I'll be driving one of those babies.
its a real big and long-standing dealer, so I think its legit. They also have an '02 for, IIRC, $25k with 33k miles. In both cases, the pricing does look pretty good compared to others I've been finding. BUT, that's usually not a good measuring stick. That's why I ask here.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
Diminished value is recognized as a comprehensive claim if you live in a state which forbids them from excluding it under the policy. If they're allowed to exclude it in Alaska, I'm sure it is. If she were hit by an at-fault party, however, the at-fault party's insurance *would* cover a DV claim. So, on the one hand, the insurance companies are saying it doesn't exist, but if you're responsible for someone else's DV, they'll cover it.
... **I have found dealers willing to give $14K+ for it, but they also padded the cost of the new vehicle. I will definitely sell it on the open market ASAP** ...
$14k ...? thats called "overallowance" ... but properly done you shouldn't have any problem down Retail Rd .........
Right color, right miles, right stuff .. as long as the service is 100%, no Dutch Boys, deep sneakers and no curb burners, then the dealer probably has "at least" $21 in it ..... ding-ding-ding.! .. my sniffer tells me somebody needs to be alookin' at this one reeeal close, maybe body and paint, maybe an insurance flip -- maybe nothing at all .. but I would be a doin' a Carsmack, Bimmer service records and have a paint god get his froggy fingers around it ........ if all is well, then thats a Great price.!
I am thinking about purchasing a new ford or chevy full size truck because i now need a truck more than an SUV, but i am interested in what i can get for my trade-in because it has high miles but is still in excellent condition. Here is my info:
Lafayette, LA

4.0 V6 Auto
2WD
84000 miles
Pearl White/ Silver 2 tone ext Tan leather int
Premium sound 6 disc in dash changer
Sun roof
all power
no 3rd row
tow package
f/r a/c

the other thing is the build quality. i was amazed when they first showed up.
Terry.
There is *Tons* of them .....
Terry.
That should send her into a screaming hissy fit.
the problem is that they priced the GT too low for its value. few are buying v6s, because you can get 300 HP for $24900. if the GT was about $2500 more, it would be alot more balanced.
as far as the 500 is concerned...its not a mustang.
BTW...let me know how she reacts! ;-)

4.3 L V6 engine, 5 speed manual transmission
38,000 miles, original tires 90% worn
Indigo Blue Metallic paint, grey cloth interior
A/C, stereo with cassette player
silver camper shell and rubber bed liner
Regular maintenance, excellent mechanical condition.
Interior condition 9/10, just minor wear

Terry.
She's making me nuts here. As I told her, the best way to get the details of the "A" purchase is through her husband's uncle. Apparently she thinks I have all the answers. What can you tell me about "A" plan? Are dealers ordering under this plan?
Thanks!
Thank you

$6,400 ..? sounds like all the money ...
You've had a big Tango at Taco Bell for the tune of $12,000 Big ones, the stoppers and rubber are weak, the color is no barn burner and a trailer hitch on the back of a XC is no lottery ticket .... $6,400 and $29,5 on the LL Bean .. your trading one great vehicle for another ....... enjoy.!
Terry.
Depending on the color, miles and the options .. you should be able to pick one up for the $28/$29 range ....

Terry,
I'm considering purchasing either a new\used Chevy Colorado or Dodge Dakota, gas mileage is one of my issues.
Thanks!
Mike

Don't forget to let me know.!
Terry.
Terry.
Whats there to say.? .. well built, priced right, no visits to the service departments, will run forever, super resale, Acura hit the bullseye dead-on with the 02/03/04 and the 05's ........

I will let you know.
Thanks again for your time

Always nice to have an expert opinion. I agree with you. The O4 is one of the most innovative cars I have seen in a long time. The DVD-Audio system is incredible.
Once we get the van sold I'll be driving one of those babies.
