2001 accord ex,58k auto, sedan, no-sale blue,4cyl w/leather 60k service done, spanking new rubber in the nawlins Looziana area, has had a boo-boo repaired on rear pass qp where I backed into it with a 24 ft U-haul, an ok repair job-not great no other dings, interior clean
Want:
2004 g35 coupe 6spd aero pak 11.5k, premium pak, in the same area, on a used import dealers lot for 32995 the car is grey w/black guts clean w no dings
no navigation
Invoice on a new comparable g35 is only about 34k ,i'm finding they want crazy cash for these things used, I just may wait a few months and get a new one
Thanks in advance Terry.
Also a BIG thanks to Capt. Phil and all other service people!!!
========================================
You betcha.!
In Nawlins Looziana ...... we got this 01 Accord 4dr EX, we got the auto "thang", we had a battle with a U-haul with an average job, we got 58k, just finished the 60k, the color is weak and the rubber is strong ...... trade side, in and around the low/mid $9's, might "maybe" see the low low low low low low low $10's after a hard night in the Quarter .. but I think $9,5 would be all the monies .......
The "G" machine..? ... the miles are almost low, the color and options are right .. the dealer might have dropped the the super tall $27's low/mid $28ish region in it, add a this and that, probably hits the table at in and around $29ish figure ........ I would think you "might" be able to trade for your driver and "about" a $22/$22,5 difference ............
Let me know ..............
Terry.
I am posting for my father-in-law. See here is what happened: About 1 month ago, I bought an '05 Forester LLBEAN. Last week, wife and I headed from the east coast to Isellhondaland. We left our Subie with our daughter and car seat attached with my inlaws. My mother-in-law fell in love with the car, and now wants one. Father-in-law is cheap. He wants a 1 y/o one.
So, here is what I am looking at:
'04 Forester XS
~ 10-15K miles
Slider
Auto
Air
cow hides
6cd changer
other goodies as appopriate
Location: Land of the Cheese Steak, Home of the flying turkeys (I mean eagles). Phily, PA.
I am guessing about 20K; but since you can buy new for 22500, buy new.
Thanks for the feedback on the MPV. For the Mazda6, 7,900 miles, it is an auto, 4 door, alloys, not a wagon. Purchased last summer and just don't like it, gas mileage is poor, front dash rattles, cloth interior is poor quality, noise from "sloching" in gas tank is loud. I look at the exterior of the car and love it, I get into the car and hate it!
Wife wants a new Accord, so I have to decide whether to trade her MPV (which has been a great, trouble free van) or trade my 6 (which I'm disappointed with). Both are paid for and trading the 6 will keep some cash in my pocket versus trading the MPV.
Thanks
1) you need to like what you drive, so even if you get the wife an Accord, sounds like you will still want to make a change, so it will end up being a 2-fer anyway.
2) decide first what your needs are. You have a van now, would it matter if you switched to 2 sedans?
In your case, I would probably sell the 6, but sounds like you might end up with the MPV?
When in doubt, do what your wife wants you to. Much less grief that way.

"Mom's car" 99 Ford Expedition, 4.6 V-7, XLT, black w/tan leather, 6-CD, power adj pedals, rear A/C. 85K miles. Interior is Fair condition, many, many french fry invasions. Exterior, doesn't see a car wash often.
I survived a mother's day weekend w/the family in florida, but the Expedition didn't. It threw a rod on the way home (thus the V-7). Need to decide if I fix, junk, or fix and sell.
Please help me make a rational decision, because I really don't care to see it again right now...
Please post how much it is going to cost to have it repaired.
Probably needs a short block? $~3500??
Think you can sell it yourself for an easy $8,000 after repair?
Is it worth it? IMO probably.
OR can you get someone to give you $3,000-$4,000 real cash money for it as-is.
Honestly, right now, SUVs ain't movin' around here. Last weeks auction was packed full'o'em and they were not bringin' good money. ALL dealers are chock full'o'em.
.... aaahh, let me take a wild guess ... it's a 4wd, no no It's a 2wd ... no no no, it's the experimental Quadraphonic uphill goin' sideways in the dark version ...........
........... and it's black -- in Florida ......
Terry.
It was only 2,000 miles since the last oil change, and has been changed since I owned it every 3,500-4,000 miles. I believe we did a major service for fluids w/flush somewhere between 55K and 70K miles, but I don't have the service records with me.
At any rate, doesn't really matter now.
Those are the values I was expecting. I've been told a rough estimate of $4K to repair, but waiting on some real numbers and a second opinion.
Can you give me an idea of what 2WD 03 or 04 Suburban 1500 LT's are doing in your area?
2WD, and it made it back to Georgia (Atl), though the "loud noise" started 45 miles before Mom made it home and called me.
Also, no sunroof.
I enjoy reading your "funny" and informative replies...
I have 1999 Toyota Camry CE Green w/grey int in San Diego, CA
It has a whopping 131k miles but as everyone says it's in excellent mechanical condition. Minor dings (2-3 on each side) w/a slight crack (2 inches) in the rear bumper. Power windows and locks. Aftermarket Sony CD w/mp3 and interior is very clean. 1 year old Michelin tires and brakes, timing belt, and water pump changed recently (6mo-1year). No other damage, original paint. Oh, one more thing, the rear driver side windows does not work, and front driver side windows rolls down well but comes back up slowly.
What is the trade in value and private sale price? I've seen 5900 to 8900 on Autotrader but I'm sure mine won't fetch that much...
Your expert help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Yrneh

Windows don't work.? .. try some "Spray wall" (contact cleaner) ... grease from your fingers, chocolate bars, the perverbial motion sickness is always good for a connector to hang up .........
It's a 99 Camry CE (no cruise, right.?) with 131,000 big ones ..... we have deep rounds things, no-sale green, new stoppers, new belt and if all the service is been done on a regular basis and it looks/drives and feels like 50k .. then trade side, in and around the super tall $2's, "might" maybe see the looooow $3's on a reeeal good day ......
Me personally .... down Retail Rd it would go .. get with Dr. Dent and the Dukes of Detail, a really nice 4/5 liner 14 day Ad in the Big paper, have all the service records stuck to the ceiling and: $5,900 *asking* and cut it loose for the first $4,5/$5,5 ...... properly done, it won't last long ...
Don't forget the update.!
Terry.
My buddy the car dealer is having a terrible effect on me, and I'm about to succumb to his offering. With a 10 month old and my job in the real estate business, I NEED a bigger vehicle. So, he has taken on trade:
2000 Lincoln Navigator
5.4 3v V8 auto, 2wd
Black over Tan leather
3rd row,
heated and cooled seats
dual auto climate
Alpine stereo with 6 in the dash CD
back up beep beep
slider (I think)
all the other usual Navigator stuff
always a southern truck
it was owned by a soccer mom, so it is in decent shape, but shows signs of kids in the back
No paintwork, hits runs etc other than above
And, 82,000 miles
My trade/private sale will be:
1997 Mercedes C230 (non supercharged)
auto
smoke silver over parchment TEX
slider
auto climate
Am/FM/Cassette, NO CD
never been norther of Atlanta
no paintwork, a few usual scratches to be expected for the age
91,000 miles
Both are in Brunswick, Georgia (halfway between Savannah and Jacksonville, Fla).
He owns the Navigator for $14000, and has pegged the Benz at $5500 which is a big time wholesale number, so he'll sell me the Nav for the Benz and $9600.
What say the oracle? Thanks as always
I am located in New York City Area, have a 97 Red Acura CL 2.2 (w/ premium package i.e with the leather) with 60,000 miles. Here are more details:
Goods:
1.) Tires are pretty new, just changed a year ago. and also have 2 spare tires that can include as an incentive to sell.
2.) Brakes are good, changed around 1.5 years ago.
3.) Just change a new timing belt as well
Bad:
1.) Many tiny dangs and scratches, notably a LONG 2 line-cratch on the left side of the car body just above the front tire to the rear tire. (some naughty kids out of nowhere did it)
2.) moderate piece of paint off the back bumper
I bought it as a second hand 5 years ago, supposed to be no prior damage and no repaints. But when my friend spot that piece of paint off the back bumper, he said it got to be a repaint. I am not sure about it.
I would like to ask if you can advice me on what is the best way to sell this car and the asking price. I really apprecaite your help. I learnt a lot in this forum. Thank you.
Nic
1994 Ford Ranger XLT reg cab 4x4.
4.0 V6, 5sp manual, 141k miles.
Maroon with matching extra-height topper.
Truck looks right; the (first) owner is meticulous, at this age there are of course a few nicks in it. But it's hard to believe it's a MI truck that's going on 12 years old.
Everything works except the auto-locking hubs are now manual.
Tires are OK or better, driver's seat is somewhat 'compressed', overall a very nice winter beater, except we finally hit 80 degrees today. The new Element is bought, so he just has to get rid of this thing.
What should he sell it for? I should mention I have a friend at work who's looking for pretty much something like this. I plan on getting them together and getting out of it, but I might acquaint both of them with a reasonable figure...
Thanks in advance as always! -Mathias
You should start a car seller/buyer match making service. :-)

I'm wondering if this has effected used or new 4Runner or Pathfinder prices......I'm thinking of buying one. Or are Toyotas & Nissans immune to this?
It's spring in Boston and Baltimore, the grass is green and the flowers are poppin' .. and like every year before, the heart grows fond of convertibles and sporty types and 4x4's and SUV types slow waaaay down, it's been that way for the last 7/8 years ....
Does the cost of gas influence the market.? sure it does -- how much.? nobody can really tell yet, and there's a particular "price per gallon" that will make that choice, it might be $2.75, or it might be $3.75 - who knows.? ..... but like every other year, this is the time to be buying a 4x4 or an SUV because the 06's are just around the corner, and dealers are lookin' to cut em' from the herd ...
What I've been lookin' at, is the boating industry .. right now people are scooping up 25/30/35 footers all day long that burn 10/15 gallons an hour, and the marina gas is always (it's the same stuff that you buy at the pumps) .40/.60/.75 cents per gallon more than street price, and always has been ... I think after the summer passes, we'll really see if the folks with their Jet Ski's, Cruisers, Ski Boats and the fishing rigs are really concerned about the price of gas, or anyone else for that matter - cuz' most of these folks drive SUV's and a bunch are your neighbors .... time will tell ..
Terry.
Well, they are down to three, as of yesterday, and yup, they are the same ones that were there in February.
Is the market for these things THAT bad? Granted, I wouldn't want one, but still....

Oil and filter changed at 2x or 3x the service indicator rate by the BMW dealership. Original tires, so maybe 40% tread left?

Thanks!

Condition is Good with routine service performed at local dealer, 2 tires will need to be replaced within 3-5K miles and the other 2 have ~%50 left. Paint is glossy but there are a few scratches and could use a good detail inside and out. I ran a CarFax and everything checks out with this being the original owner. Asking price is $13,600 and my current offer is $12,500. Owner is recently divorced and it was his wife's car. Seems like he wants it gone.

In Lauderdale .... for a minute I thought you said it was a black CLK .....
YIKES.! .. it is a Black 03 CLK 320 El Coupe' in Laudertrail ....... where's your black Cigarette boat.? did you dye your mustache black .....? ... Well ........ the miles are low, we got the cold pack, slider, blinders, getty-up and it's black with black guts ....... If ~ we haven't had any swirlomatic car washes at Sonny’s, no paint by numbers, no battles at Publics, the service is 100% and no curb burners .. then trade side, in and around the super tall $29's, low/mid $30ish range, might "maybe" could get a super brave dealer to march towards the $31 figure, Big maybe ....... the color just Flat kills it, and the miles could save it, kinda --- black in Florida...?
Me personally .. down Retail Rd it would go - superb detail, finish any service, a glorious Ad in the Miami Herald and $35,900 *asking* and get ready to cut this bad boy loose for the first $34/$35 .....
On the other hand ... we have a nice light colored 04 Aviator Ultimate AWD, we got the slider, 14k, moon tunes, cold pack, blinders and the quads ..... If it's super nice, super clean and no repaints .. then trade side, in and around the mid/high $31ish range, might see the low low low low $32 figure, maybe .....
Good luck .. and let me know what happens ..!
Terry.
Topper ..? .. if he has an instant buyer - than it's okay .... but if he going to put it up "for sale" then kick the topper .. they have a tendency to make potential buyers to keep going ....... trade side, in and around the $1,5ish area ... down Retail Rd, $3,900 *asking* and someone gets a new truck (well kinda) for $3,0/$3,5ish ..............
Terry.

"Sounds" like it could be a nice one -- trade, auction.?
It's got nooooooo miles, it's the right color and we have the CPO ...... ya know the deal by now, perfect history, perfect service, perfect paint (well almost) and no overnights at Maaco.? ..... then the dealer probably paid "somewhere" around the $39/$40ish zipcode for it ...
I'm guessing he's *asking* $49,500ish ..... hard to get and hard to find, especially with 18,000 itty bitty miles ... maybe $45/$46 gets it home, he may hold out for the whole enchilada in Nashville, spring has sprung up there .......... whats he asking ..?
PS: just make sure it's all there ... a new fender and new paint can cost $5,000 on the wholesale side .....
Let me know ..............................

Seriously, I believe so long as it's a *matching fiberglass topper*, that it adds a little value around here. I may be wrong, though.
Thanks for the #'s, and I'll pass the information along.
My experience with decade-old Fords has not been encouraging; I'd not be interested much beyond $2k. But the market on 4x4's is always strong....

Actually, I already have it - sitting outside even as I type. I have decided to sell/trade it and was trying to get an idea of real-world trade or private party sell value - i.e. what could expect to get for it.

Where I live, it is a $3,000 car on the RETAIL side.
Even though it is an Acura, it has 175K and needs maintenance.
*like every other year, this is the time to be buying a 4x4 or an SUV because the 06's are just around the corner, and dealers are lookin' to cut em' from the herd*
Are you related to the Clampett's ....? .. if it's low slung and matches the color and not a "camper" type, then it's probably not a problem ...
... so what time is the chitlin's and the black-eyed pea's.?

I now need a retail number to use as a negotiating point with the insurance company. I've pulled a couple of comparables for sale off of some web sites and the big 3 values.
Here are the details:
98 Accord EX Sedan
Boston
87K miles
Heater Mist - silvery champagne color
Auto
Leather
Normal EX goodies
A couple of small dings, a slight scuff on the rear bumper, usual chips on the nose, and a little rim rash.
Dealer service up to date
Rubber about 50%.
Numbers point to retail asking price between $8500 and $9500. What say you and thanks in advance.
