heres the kicker 110,000 miles......
has the books, and all the keys; cover up the odometer, it looks like a 30k mile car.
Whats this thing worth???? :confuse:
I have to know where this person drove this thing!
That's over 1K miles a week! 100 mile commute, I presume? Man, I would think if you drive that much, you'd first get something with better mileage, AND something a bit cheaper to buy.
'11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S
Not impossible to do, my 04 (bought new 7/04) has 50k on it, I was driving close to 50k/year with just that car, plus managed to pile another 25k on my truck in one year.
This truck is in Jersey. Some of the worst traffic in the world. 100 miles here probably takes the same time to travel as 300 in AK.

How do I come to that number? well, Edmunds says trade-in on a similar vehicle with proper mileage is a bit under $30k. I figure Edmunds is typically 10% over. So that brings us to $27k. On a vehicle like this, I think it should get hit for about $75 per 1k miles over the accepted amount(which would be 24k for a 2-year-old vehicle). 86K miles over = $6450 hit. SOOO... round about $20k-$21k. If its as nice as you say, i lean to my high number.
I just make this stuff up as I go along.
On the other side of the coin ... how many folks would pay $24k retail for a 110k mile SUV?

So.. how much would it go for? trade-in and private selling? being limited, KBB price is.. well didn't make sense to me but would be great to get near its price.
Isn't 2004 the first model year on the SRX? I think I'd pass and get a slightly older MDX with fewer miles. To compare within the GM family, you can buy a brand new Tahoe 4x4 (cloth seats and no sunroof, but still, 0 miles) for $30,000.
I have seen Taurus, Impalas, and Windstar/Astro/Ram caravans and the like with that kind of mileage. Oh, and a Park Avenue.
actually talking numbers now on a new car, so Terry, can you update trade in (and retail road) on:
2005 Scion tC. Flint Mica (dark metallic gray), black guts.
5 speed (of course.) Only 11,000 miles, well maintained, no hits/runs/errors, other than a couple of minor scratches. Pretty much looks new.
In NJ still.
So, what should I hold out for on this not so bad-boy?
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
We are edging closer and closer to F-550 time. Opted not to replace the Titan (a. too much of a loss and b. I like my truck). So, that means we will have to upgrade the Dodge, she's starting to struggle a bit, no warranty and the repairs seem to be coming every week lately (the main reason hubby is starting to get nervous about his truck, otherwise he loves it).
The Good:
1999 Ram 3500 4x4 dually, SLT Laramie, pwr windows/locks/mirrors, infinity gold am/fm/cass, red/grey, 42k miles, newish tires and brakes.
The Bad: :surprise:
Regular cab, V10, nothing really major wrong except for the heater not putting out much heat lately.
The UGLY:
Bad dent in the top of the tailgate, scratches and dings, shattered windshield, tweaked front bumper, taliban attack on the inside of the bed, but the Rhinoliner is intact.
I'm figuring if we can squeeze a dealer for $7k we will be doing pretty good. Ah the joys of having a business where you have to haul heavy stuff (just ask the Titan, it knows, lol).
BTW, here's the link to the latest picture of the old beast:

Location: Philadelphia, PA
Year / Make / Model: 2001 GMC Yukon SLT
Body: SUV
Engine 5.3L
Driveline: 4WD
Mileage: 79800
Color: Pewter / Gray leather interior
Options: Loaded - Leather, 3rd row, sunroof, tow, OnStar premium rear audio, running boards, premium factory chrome wheels
Interior Condition: Non-smoking interior, good, couple of small stains on the floormats.
Exterior Condition: paint glossy, washed/waxed regularly. 2 small door "dings" on the passenger side (1/4 - 3/8"), 1 small ding in the rear chrome bumper (1/4"), No repaints, no collision damage, no insurance claims.
Tires 60%. Rear brakes just done 5000 miles ago. Did all maintenance myself, so I have some records, but I can't hand them a service history or anything.
Have title in-hand. Am looking at trading towards a Honda Pilot.
Thanks for your help!
What I am afraid of is sinking any money into the car as it has a "handshaker" and having it not sell. Then I would have to take the dealer's trade-in of $5500. BTW I listed it for $8500.
But, if I don't replace the brakes, I don't know if a buyer will bite on the car if he/she thinks it has been neglected in any way.
I feel like I am in an automotive catch 22. Any advice?

Good condition. One owner. Interior has some wear. A small tear in the rear seat and a few scratches on the inside (big dogs). Outside has the usual parking lot scratches/dings. Nothing major. New tires, brakes good, complete maintenance.
One minor accident. Rear ended and rear hatch and bumper cover replaced.
Thanks.
Depending on your specific market, there is a cult following for that car and you might still be able to get an easy $2500 cash money for it. Super detail, maintenance records on the seat, ready to drive, big advertisement and an asking of $2900 with the car carefully placed where the tuners will see it.
It was about $150 for front pads on a 2002 Altima at the Nissan dealer here in Lexington. Flat rate for any Nissan except the new Maximas (don't remember the figure, but it was only a little more). Not bad for a dealer!
Anyway, I knew where I needed to be if the LX was perfect ($15k) and thought $14k was a take-the-money-and-run offer. Bought the 06 ES330 ($35500) for $31400. Not bad I thought as we are 150 miles from the nearest Lexus dealer to cross shop. Grandma is delighted and I feel we made a decent trade. Thanks again.
You doing Terry math????
An 04 is only 2 years old.
I would appreciate a price for both trade-in (at a Subaru dealer, FWIW) and private party price.

The story of this 1988 MERCEDES-BENZ 300E (WDBEA30D0JA763119) according to our interpretation of the information reported to CARFAX:
This sedan has had 1 owner in Missouri. The first title for this sedan was reported to CARFAX by a Missouri DMV in 1988. *Hey, what happened to me?*
It has had no minor or moderate accidents reported to CARFAX. *I guess $8500 in cow damage doesn't count.*
It has had no DMV-reported total loss events, like a major accident, fire or flood.
It has not been reported by a DMV as having an Exceeds Mechanical Limits or Not Actual Mileage title. *Are you kidding me?*
It has a consistent mileage history with no indication of an odometer rollback. The last odometer reading, reported on 12/17/1991, was 19,589 miles. *ROFLMBO*
It was not reported by a DMV as a Manufacturer Buyback or LEMON.
It has no recalls that still require repair.
Go to the Detailed Vehicle History for the complete history and a glossary of terms.
This car has had TWO owners (the original and my mom), strike one.
The car was registered in Missouri until mom moved to Indiana (IN 1995!!), strike two.
Stepdad and said car had a major run-in with a cow, to the tune of $8500 at least five years ago, IIRC. Strike three (I'll give a little leway on that one).
Last, it has an odometer that has been broken for about five years but showing slightly over 300k (car has more like 400-450k).
What good is CarFax if it's totally inaccurate?

Yikes .......! .. no breeze ..?? ... with it being "Fall" you can probably move it - if it was July or August in NJ you could be suckin' the exhaust pipe for the next 3 months ..
Well .... it's a base, it's a 2dr, no breeze, handshaker, it's green, at least we have baby miles -- aaahh, what can I say ...?
I think your right on the $$ as far as the trade is concerned .. depending on the dealer you might find the mid/high $4's and the guy 5 blocks away might drop the low low low low $5's in it - maybe .... only because of the season would I try *asking* $7,900 and see what kind of response I would get and grab $6,5/$7,5 ... no calls at $7,900 and I would drop it to $7,495 .. down south, I would have to pay someone to take if off my hands for $5,900 ..l.o.l... the only thing that saves this caboose is the looooooooooow miles ..
===============================
Well, I put the ad in the paper last Tuesday to start to run on Thursday at $7900. In between on Wednesday, somebody starts an ad for an identical Accent with 9000 miles for $6900.
Still, I got a call or two a day. First guy hung right up on me when he heard no air. Next two were actually sort of polite even when hearing about the 5 speed and no air, saying they were shopping for a car for their kids. Somewhere in between was the lady asking if I was negotiable, and would I take "four tousandt" . Then over the weekend got a call from an older man that wanted to see it right away. Met him and his wife 15 minutes later, both liked it, agreed it was basicaly a new car, and did the deal for $6750. I would have liked to have gotten a few hundred more, but I have enough landscaping in my yard, and didn't really want a green Hyundai topiary at the side of my driveway. So 4 days in paper for $50, a replacement wheelcover and bottle of touch-up paint for a couple of paint chips for another $50, a good detail done by yours truly, and off it goes to a new home. Mother says she is pleased with the price, though knowing her I'm sure she won't be in a few months.
Thx Terry, and here's proof that with some minor effort, you can get all the money pretty quick retailing yourself.

======================================
I answered this one first .. that's because "Greensboro" was the last sign I saw before we left for the airport from Pinehurst last night ..l.o.l...
In the land of golf ..... we have an 04 Cheby S-10 4x4 crew cab (LS I would presume) .. the miles are tall - tall - tall, the color is good, we have a little 4x4 action, it's the auto thing and we have few baby meteorite hits probably from the back country roads ..... if the rubber is deep and the stoppers are better, the service is complete, the interior doesn't have all those "Bojangles" bags stuck under the seats, no click click in the 4x4 and it drives, feels and looks like 15k .... then trade side, in and around the mid/tall $12's, might maybe get reeeeal lucky and see the low low low low low low $13's with the proper alignment of Venus and Mars ..... if it needs stuff, start deducting.
Don't forget the update .................
Terry.
But but but but .. you could call it "art deco" ...l.o.l...
I think you did real good at $6,700 ... me personally I would be eating Tums and holding my breath for $5,900 (please please please buy me
I'm glad things worked out and all is well in the world...! .. it makes for a nice Thanksgiving ...!

Condition:
- Bought the car in Texas three years ago with only 40k miles on it. No rust anywhere

- Tires at 50%
- In the last few months: New shocks, new intake plenum, new engine computer, alignment, rad flush.
- Has cracked windshield, I have not fixed it because it's on the passenger side only
- Paint in good condition, very few door dings/scratches, definitely above average for a 1995.
- Interior is also nice, no french fries, sucker sticks, or bubble gum
I'm thinking asking $3k and cut her loose at $2,5. Is this a fair asking price or should I aim higher/lower?

Well, maybe you can give CarFax a break on getting info on an 18 year-old car. I don't think CarFax really hit their stride until the mid 90's, so getting older data would be problematic. For something after '96 or so, they're probably much more accurate.
