Thanks for everyone's input for helping me make an informed decision. I did purchase the vehicle for 12.7 and considering the miles felt it was a good deal. I'm pretty sure the miles were mostly hwy considering it's an 03. The car runs and shows very well with all original paint and no body work. I plan on keeping it for awhile and to enjoy hopefully trouble-free .
Took it to the dealer and they offered $11,100. Then took it to Carmax and they said $13K. That's much higher (about $1500) than what Edmunds calculates.
As an aside, this is the third truck (2 others for friends)I've been involved with selling/buying over the past 2 years and for whatever reason Edmunds is typical way low in their valuation - -at least in these 3 instances. just a comment!

Hi, Looking for some ideas on a wholesale and a private party value for this one. It's my 84 year old aunt's Aurora. She is no longer able to drive, and the family has enlisted me to sell the car for her. Here's the details:
1995 Oldsmobile Aurora Southern NJ 65,000 miles Silver with grey leither Only option it has is a sunroof. Good condition, garage kept. No accidents. A few small rock chips on the front but nothing else notable. Interior is clean, no real issues, just normal wear. New tires about 3,000 miles ago. All service current. According to her records, the front+rear brakes were done at 35k. Car stops fine now.
Any advice is appreciated. One of her neighbors is already gawking over the car, apparently he likes these things.

I've been following these the last few weeks with an eye toward picking one up. Low mileage Auroras of this vintage are difficult to find and can bring surprisingly good money in a private sale. There was a no-sale '95 with 50K on ebay a couple of days ago - bidding hit $6700 and did not reach reserve. It was a VERY pretty color combo. Another one with about the same mileage in a less attractive color just went for about five.
See if the neighbor is interested at $4500 or so. It should bring 4 on a bad day if it's as nice as you say.
It's worth next to nothing on a new car trade though.
Personally, I was thinking closer to $5k. That is what I would look to pay for it if it was local here in Chicago. I just saw a '98 Aurora advertised with similar miles for $9999.

There is really no benefit to trading it... You should get a lot more selling it on your own.. You might even break even.
Does it have the premium package? Xenons? What color is it? Automatic or stick?
One downside? Only 3K miles of warranty and maintenance left.. If you do decide that you don't want to sell it on your own, ask your local BMW dealer for a straight bid on the car. They could CPO it, and it might be worth a little more to them, than to the Honda or Toyota dealer.
In my neck o' the woods, that $19k trade-in gets me $1330 in tax credit, effectively making the trade $20,330, which puts you about $1500 upside-down. Not too bad. I'd probably trade it in if I was faced with the decision
HOWEVER, WHY are you considering dumping it? A cheaper car?? $20k loan?? Ummm... why take out a $20k loan on another car when you owe just a hair over $20k on this one? Have you considered refinancing? Maybe it is just me, but I think I'd rather have a 47k mile BMW convertible than a zero mile Toyota Corolla.

Currently the loan is at 5%. I know I would be paying more in the long term with a refi at a higher rate but it would lower my car pyts. Which will free up some cash and I can use that extra money to pay off some CC's.
If your interest rate is 5%, it would make no sense to re-finance to a higher rate, just for a few months of debt relief... That would just make things worse in the long run...
If you can come close to getting your payoff out of your car, then buy an Accord or Civic for $17K-$20K, then you will probably be much better off financially in the long run...
BUT... how much will your interest rate be? I'm thinking that you can get a better deal on a lease, providing you qualify, than on a straight loan.. Your credit score is going to be problematic.
Ok so forget the refi, I'm now looking at the 05/06 Accord coupe (I still want to enjoy what I'm driving).
I doubt you will save much at all (or Nothing) if you can only get 19K for your car and you're going to buy a 05/06 Accord.

ANY U/C appraiser will see $5k worth of damage. What does the Carfax say? Unmolested, the car is probably worth $10-11,000. If the repair is noticeable to a pro and if the Carfax shows the accident the value could drop to $6-7000.
Well, it is really hard to say without knowing all the particulars. Just because the owner can't tell the car has been hit doesn't mean someone else couldn't. A bad Carfax is the kiss of death on a trade. If the Carfax was good and the repair was professionally done, then the truck may be worth $8-9000.

spend few bucks on a carfax. see what it has. if nothing, maybe the repair will be noticed, maybe not. can't hurt to get an appraisal after that, anyway.

I was tempted to take advantage of Saturn blowing out their 2007 VUE's with 0% and decided to research my trade-in value. KBB has this at rock bottom - I purchased the 2005 in October of 2005 - so am I getting hammered because of this?

Well, on the bad side, it has the 2.7L, instead of the 3.5L, and is 2wd, instead of 4wd (in Philly). The Santa Fe has since been redesigned, and it does have the Hyundai depreciation.
On the good side, the miles are low.
I would venture a guess that you would see $11,000-$12,500 for it as a trade, but am anxious to hear what the experts have to say.

it has the sprt pckg, moonroof, auto, white, no leather, no pwr seats.

I'd try to sell it myself first... Not having the premium package will hold you back some on price, but you may be able to get your payoff out of it..
Before trading it in, definitely get your BMW dealer to make an offer on it... The sport package and automatic is in your favor.
