Thanks Volvomax! Another question, my friend has a 2008 Jeep liberty limited (black w/ dark interior), 18k miles on it, what trade-in value can he get? I know these cars are depreciated heavily after the first year
Any guide to what is the market price for this vehicle?
San Diego CA 1995 Audi A6 Quattro Wagon Wagon 2.8l AWD 118k Green Loaded General good condition, no exterior or interior damage. One owner, full records. Tires 50% Brakes 50% Maintenance on schedule.
Just wondering what I could possibly expect for trade in for the following:
Region: Southeast (GA/SC)
2007 Audi A4 2.0T 6 speed Automatic Transmission Sedan 2.0 Liter Turbo engine Quattro AWD Mileage 19,XXX Color: Ext-Black Int-Beige/Tan Options: -Premium Package (Leather, etc.) -Convenience Package (Bi-Xenon, homelink, folding mirrors, dual power seats, rain sensing wipers, etc) -Navigation with 6 disc CD Changer Condition: Excellent. No paint problems, No dings or dents, No accidents, etc. Maintenance: up to date and all done by Audi
Location: Dallas, TX Year/Make/Model: 2006/Ford/F-150 SuperCrew XLT Body Style: 4dr Engine: 5.4L Flex Fuel Driveline: 4WD Mileage: 32000 Color: Dark Shadow Grey/Light Grey Major Options: 18" wheels, chrome running boards, 6disc MP3 Condition: Interior is fairly clean--doesn't look like showroom, but not dirty by any means. Tires - 50% at least Brakes--still great Maintenance--all performed at dealer Other: Had insurance claim to repaint passenger side after getting paint on it.
Any idea what this would bring as a trade here in Dallas? And am I better off trading it in at a Ford dealer as opposed to another dealer? Would prefer to just sell it, but not getting many takers...
Tell me about it... Sticker was just over $38K. I'm probably not going to go with another A4. It hasn't been a bad car, but just not all that exciting. That depreciation will probably keep me out of a '09. Plus with depreciation like that I may as well buy a Saab or something. With something like that I'd know to at least expect that kind of drop. It seems like the only way to minimize that risk is to go with a BMW or a Lexus.
Just curious what I should be getting for a 2007 Honda CRV LX 4WD Auto in the Chicago Area for a dealer trade-in, with 19000 miles and in excellent mechanical shape with all the service (Oil changes, tire rotations, etc) to the vehicle is up to date.
Are you the current owner of this car? I'm asking because I've seen your posts in the CR-V Prices Paid forum. Apparently you're shopping for an '08 or '09 CR-V. Given that there's not much difference between the '07, which, I assume, you now own, & the '08/'09, it's natural to ask why you're doing this.
I am the current owner of this car and I am shopping for an 08 or 09 CRV basically to trade-up to something newer before the 07 greatly lowers in value, thus getting less for it at trade-in time. I usually trade up for the same car before the warranty expires and the value decreases.
What do you think? Should I keep th 07 CRV and run the wheels off it or trade up like I'm about to do.
To squeeze the most value from your car, I'd suggest that you keep it for at least 10 years or 125K miles & then sell it privately. I've been driving Hondas since 1974 & that's been my approach. Hondas age well, & older, high-mileage cars bring top dollar. Believe me - you'll have absolutely no trouble selling your CR-V when the time comes.
Trading every 2 or 3 years is a sure-fire way to go broke.
I've got a 2006 CR-V (the last year that it was available with a stick, which I prefer) & I have no plans to replace it before 2016.
What do you think? Should I keep th 07 CRV and run the wheels off it or trade up like I'm about to do.
I'm not sure about CRV but I like to trade in my Altima every 2 or 3 years as well. For the last 2 trades, I needed to add about 4K/2years or 5.5K/3years. I think it's a good deal b/c I don't need to replace anything after 2 or 3 years, just a couple of oil changes.
If I keep the car for 10 years, I would think I have to add at least 15K + all the maintenances, brakes, tires and others.
Why not trade out of an 07 CRV? The depreciation can't be that bad. I'll probably get $16500.00 on a trade when I paid 19300 out the door 18 months ago.

If you only need to add around 3K to get a '09, I say "go for it".
Because this transaction doesn't make any financial sense. Even using your own numbers, you're spending $3K to buy substantially the same car. Don't you have anything better to do with that money?
Before you do anything, spend some time researchng the financial fundamentals of car ownership. You'll see that what costs you the most money is depreciation, not repair & maintenance costs. This means that if you want to reduce the cost of car ownership, you'll focus on reducing what you lose in depreciation.
Because the steepest part of the depreciation curve takes place during the 1st 4 years of a car's life, one way to beat depreciation is to buy used. Let the poor jerk who bought the car new take it on the chin. Another way - my approach - is to buy new & keep the car for at least 6 to 8 years. (Although I've kept cars for as long as 13 years, I generally don't go beyond 10.) Sure, you'll spend some money on repairs, but what you're saving on the depreciation side of the ledger will more than pay for those repair costs. Anyway, experience has taught me that top-tier Japanese brands will easily run for 10 years without big repair bills.
If you trade every 2 or 3 years to hold down repair costs, you're effectively spending $1.25 to save $1.00.
I've alway assumed that Audi depreciation is among the worst (& just wait until the warranty runs out!). Best to lease an Audi if you're going new, as with Saabs. If you want low depreciation, yes Lexus is on the list.....
I'm looking at several 07 and 08 bmw x5 3.0's and am trying to get an idea of a realistic price to pay.
Looking at white or black with tan leather, prem pkg, cold weather pkg, rear climate pkg, AT
07's I like have miles between 8K and 18K. Lower mileage one has tech pkg (nav and backup camera) ,sport pkg, keyless access, heated rear seats and sat radio.(alpine white)

Volvomax's number was $16,000 on trade. So you're going to realize a $3,300 loss when you trade. Plus the price of the new ones have gove up about $2,000.....looks like invoice deal on an '09 is $21,500. So you'll have to cough up somewhere around $6,000 after taxes and such (assuming you're only taxed on the trade difference). Doesn't sounds like a deal to me for 18 months of ownership. Assuming the same depreciation rate as the '07, you'll lose $4,000 over the next 18 months if you wanted to trade again. Will your '07 lose that much in the next 18 months? Very unlikely. If you're worriied about possibly having to pay for repairs, it would make sense to go 36 months (warranty period). You only realize depreciation when you sell.
Took a stab at answering your question in the XC90 forum already, though you didn't mention your location there. In the NE you could probably get that car for under $19K, but supply is more limited in the South so you'll pay some premium. I'd guess a fair bit less than $17K on trade, but Volvomax will certainly know.
With the equipment, Edmunds shows the TMV @$24k. The SM said that the $21500 was $700 over their cost. On the surface it seems like a decent deal, this XC90 is much nicer than my 4 Runner.
Some of the equipment it has is: leather, power driver and passenger seats, heated driver and passenger seats, rear AC, 3rd row, cd changer, homelink and sunroof.
me and my wife financed a 2007 nissan altima last year. we pay 540 a month and the interest is 12%. we want to get out of this somehow. out of the 540 a month about 300 is interest. i just need to find out if their is anyway to get out of this. i went to car cash and i am going to contact them tomorrow. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
Hmmm, if my fuzzy math is correct $300 a month in interest at 12% equates to $30K in principal. That's a heck of a loan on an Altima. Did you also trade in a car that you were upside down on?
Negative equity doesn't go away by itself. You have two choices. 1) Bite the bullet and pay off the loan. 2) Declare bankruptcy.
