I noticed they seem to be the high mileage cars, but good deals for the right person, and you weren't trying to rob anyone. :-)

    I have a 1999 BMW 528iA I want to trade on an X5.
The particulars: 25,700 miles, sport pkg., auto., premium pkg., navigation, new tires , black on black in Chicago area. No dings, dents, back bumper has a few small scrapes, no kids, no pets, don't smoke. What's all the money on trade?

Also, thanks Brentwoodvolvo and rroyce10 for info given on a 95' Maxima a few months back. You guys are the best.

    Guys,

1998 Audi A4 Avant - Red with Black leather.
Loaded - auto, sunroof, CD. 34K miles. Good condition, but not perfect.

Located in suburban Detroit - What is a fair retail for this from a small German car speciality dealer?

    Thanks - appreciate the help.

This is what happens when I watch CNN and read posts at the same time. Trading instead of selling was beginning to make a lot of sense for the first time, until I realized we pay only 3% on new cars in Virginia. Thanks for the education anyway :)

    .... How are you ..?

These are nice vehicles, and popular even in Detroit.

I see a lot of these at the Detroit Metro Auction .. they get all the money$$

If I read this right ..this is not a Quattro..right ..?.

The miles are right .. so lets say it's just about average, needs a few things here and there.. It would do "in and around" the mid $16's at the Metro -- on the retail end "ask" $17,900 and see what happens ...

    Good luck...

    Terry.

    .... How goes it..?

These are nice ..and popular, the miles are right and based on what you are telling us -- "it's all there" ..

Nothing major, but it's a 2WD and it's an XE. These are doing "around" $10 at the blocks ( if they are super clean and super low mileage) -- I'm thinkin' on a private sale ..$12 is all the money, and then some.

    Good hunting..

Thanks for the responses to my high dollar trade/ sales tax question (and, yes, there was a question in there....I think.) Question or not I got the answer I wanted....that being....while I may be crazy for trading cars too much, I'm not crazy for thinking a personal sale isn't always the better approach. Thanks again.

    Here's one...

'00 Jag XJ8 (short wheelbase), Topaz, 13k miles, certified, in NJ.

What would you peg it at?
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Cold weather package?

(I sold a non CW-pkg to a dealer in NJ in October. 12K on it. "TOPZ/OATM" in order codes for $26,500..

Hmm, I doubt itd do more than 26K across the block. Figure they got another grand to a garand and a half.. in it on top of that.

Dunno. See if 29K will buy it.

Any idea what a Ford Explorer Sport 2001 would go for at trade-in? It is loaded with 18K. I bought it August 2000. I live in MA. From what I have read on other boards, trade-ins are taking a particular hit because of the low financing on new cars. Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi guys,

I have a 93 Acura Legend L sedan, Chicago market with 94,000 miles. Dark green, leather, moonroof, pw, pl, cd changer. Paint is in pretty good shape except for 2 small rust spots behind each of the rear wheels. Mechanically, there are a few minor issues: small leak from water pump so it needs to be replaced ($600), slow leak from master cylinder gasket ($300) and the right front bearing ticks on the turns because the CV Boot had cracked open ($200-$300?). What is this car worth on trade? Private sale? What is it worth if I fix all of the above? Do you think it's worth spending the money to fix?
  • rbrenton88rbrenton88 Member Posts: 186
This was at Cherry Hill. They quoted $47.5k asking price.
Are you sure 29k for a 2000 model? That sounds more like '98 money.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ...... Another Exploder..huh..?

    Is it a 2wd, or a 4wd...? -- Well let's throw caution to the wind and say, it's a 4WD ..

If it's nice and clean..and it's not that crazy yellow color, it's worth in and around the high $14's/low $15's ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Gee whiz, I have seen a lot of Acura's, and this thing needs all kinds of stuff -- What ..? Desert training..l.o.l...?

If you get this thing fixed up..94 klicks doesn't bother many on this vehicle ...

This is kind of a hard one..Acura dealers will try to paint a bad picture, these vehicles sell...

If you fix it up and go - Retail.. I'm thinkin' a good "asking" price would be $8,900..

On the trade side..Hmmm, probably around $4ish, with no help...

What do you think Bill ..?

    Terry.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    oops. Thought you said 98.

    Sorry.

$33K-34K across the block...MAYBE 35K as its Topaz.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    That Acura?

With all those problems.. $4K? I could still see it. I dont like the color though.

    Miles dont hurt em...

Youre better off fixing it and retailing it I think. 8900 seems like a price that oughta move it.

..... I'm going in next month for some of that Lasik surgery.. I think I'm going to take Bill with me..l.o.l.

    It's a 2000 right ...?

    It's got 13 k right ...?

    Swb right ....?

    Pretty nice vehicle ....Right ..?

    It's not purple ...Right ...?

    $28... Wrong ..!

    SLAP!!! ... Bill, wake up..!

It's gotta be worth $33/$34 and some change...

I'm sorry, ever since Bill went to Canada.. to buy that Fiat or a Vaulexon, he hasn't been the same ... Oh Well, too much Molson.. I guess.

I promise to stop.. err.. How do I say this without angering the whale-boy...

    Stop umm..sitting on my brains.

    I didnt see 00, I thought rb said 98..

33-34.. right on the money. 35K on a push only because of the color combo. (There was a correction run in an earlier episode)

I sold 40 damned Jags last month, if anyone oughta know this stuff...

    Doh.

Thanks for the info on the 93 Acura Legend. I think I'm going to keep it as a commuter car to the train station. I also have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd I6, 4WD, Champagne color, 35,000 miles, sunroof, heated seats, very good condition. What do you think it's worth? Retail vs. trade? I would like to get an X5 in its place.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ..... Ok, it's a 99 with 35Klicks, and it's the 6..no help there.

As you know, these are popular, but there is a bunch around..

If it's clean, no parking lot kisses.. can still see the dashboard from all the Mcdonalds invasions, new tires -- and it needs -0-

Then you are lookin' at a vehicle that would do "around" the low $15's at the block... And on the retail side, throw it in the biggest paper around ..on a nice 5 liner for $17,500 and see what happens..

    As always ..good Luck

1998 BMW 528i. Silver/gray leather, premium package (wood, power seat), slider, automatic (no steptronic, guess that was optional). Seems pretty clean (just sat in it, didn't start it up), tires, etc. look good.

Kicker is, it has 70,000 miles on it

what's reasonable on this (it is at a local "pre-wholesale" used car dealer, that usually has some nice stuff).

For the right price, the miles don't bother me, because I only put on about 8K/yr.

And please don't tell my wife i'm tired of the Maxima I got in April, because whe would kill me if she found out I fell off the wagon.

Another car that I've always liked is the S90/960 Volvo. What would a clean 98 be doing these days (normal mileage), dealer certified or non-Volvo dealer?

Once you get married, she(he?) loses leverage, since it is much harder to get rid of you then, and probably not worth the effort over a car.

And good luck if you have already deeded over your car purchasing rights.

Since I have you guys on the click, I also ran across 2 2000 323s

    1) 323it (wagon), red, leather, auto, sport/premium (all the goodies), asking 29K

    2) 323i 4-door, auto, sport/premium (all the option, original sticker of about $37K), black/tan leather. Not sure of miles (I think it is in the 20s), asking about 27k from what I can see on the window (haven't talked to the dealer).

Actually, it might be easier to order one from Bill and have it shipped up from Fla. Or maybe Terry has one sitting around gathering dust?

    Hi Guys,
What can I expect for a trade in on the following:
99 Maxima SE Ltd, 39K miles, manual, leather, power seats, power moonroof, premium bose sound, automatic temp. controls, very minor dent on one of rear door, 2" scratch on front bumper.

I live in the San Fran. Bay Area. and is thinking about trading this in at the Nissan dealer where I leased it (for another Maxima).

    Thanks,
    Andrew
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
........ It sounds like a nice one, if it's puuurffect ...

The miles won't do "too much" damage ..if it's xtra clean, xtra nice and has all the service, books and records..

Hmmmm, I'm thinkin this might be worth..at the block, in or around $19ish -- and on the retail end, a fair "asking" price would be around $22/$23 --- these vehicles have a "huge" book on em'... this probably book's out for over $25ish, even with the miles.

What do you think there Bill..?

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Maxima's are one of my favorites, lot's of "bang" for the buck..

I can see this is a .."handshaker" ..ouch, no help there, miles are Ok, it's got the Bose and all the Bang..

You are lookin' in and around the high 13's, low $14's..

    I hope this helps..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
... What's the miles on the wagon..?

Let's just say, 25K just for the "grins and giggles" ..If this is nice stuff - Clean to the bone stuff, this wagon would do the far side of $24ish at the block ..and the Sedan would do about the same ..

Hey, if I'm not buying em' ...I'm lookin' at em', email me..

    Hey Guys -

I probably won't do anything this year with it so close to Christmas and all, but I'm kicking around the thought of a Lexus LS400 again. (Terry, stop laughing!) If I can convince myself to like the two-tone (black over gray) paint, I may go for one since there don't seem to be a lot of clean RLs around. What are '98 LS400s with all the toys doing? Most of the ones I've seen locally have had miles in the 35-50k range, and asking prices in the mid 30s.

    Thanks,
    Quentin
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ......How are you ..?

I thought you might have found a RL in Atlanta, if my memory serves me (and half the time , it doesn't..l.o.l.)

Well, now we are lookin' for a LS... much easier to find --- Not black again...Oh, my my ..

Anyway, I do see a lot more of these -- nice vehicles ... Clean ones with , let's say 35/40K are running around that $26/$27ish range.. and of course, the hard to find black one's, are doing $50/$60,000 ------ :)))))

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,345
Terry: The wagon has 9,700 miles on it, if that makes a difference. Of course, I have to do something about my car too, which will be another painful experience. What would the private sale on the Maxima a few posts be, if it had cloth, no Bose, and 33K miles?

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... 9700 miles, ooh that's a low one.. about $1,1/$1,2/$1,300 more, and if it's cloth on the other one ..(it's a GXE right)..?

    About $2 large..less.

    Terry.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,345
the Maxima is an SE, it just doesn't have leather and Bose. It does have a roof, alloys, spoiler, dual power seats, homelink (the usual SE stuff with the convenience package)

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

Thanks! I'm doing great. I hope you are too. The two RLs that I found in Atlanta were sold before we even left Ohio. There do seem to be more of them down south and on the west coast though.

What can I say. I like black vehicles. My first car about 22 years ago was black, and my last main vehicle (The Explorer) was black. All the ones in between weren't black, and I regretted it. (with the exception of my winter cars, lighter colors are better there)
You have to admit, nothing looks as good as a clean, black car. :-)

Based on your numbers, I'd think $30k would buy a nice '98 LS. I haven't really started seriously shopping yet, but most dealers are asking $33-37k.

Hello trade-in gurus. I am looking at a 1989 Honda CRX Si with 149,000 miles, 5 spd, sunroof, and service records and no body damage. The owner is asking $2995.

This is one her word over the phone (sounds legit). I plan on driving up to Kansas City to look at it in person on Tuesday (about a 2 1/2 hour drive for me.

Any advise? Does the price sound good? Should I invest in a car fax? Thanks in advance.

    ..... Is the SE a "handshaker" ...?

Ok, No guts, No tunes ... the difference in a GXE and an SE is "around" 2 G's ... No leather will kick it back, around $5/$600 ...

..... You really won't know til' you get there..

Try to grab a Tech guy if you can, when these get to be in that mileage range, the boot's (depending on how it was driven).. can get a little shaky and the tranny "could" be a little soft ..But on the whole, these are wonderful cars, and this little puppy could run another 100,000K.

Start em' up at $1,500 and go from there, between you and me..and the lamp post, if it's a nice clean one, it would probably do $3,000 at the block ---- Carfax is $ well spent. ---

    Terry.
  • asleepyasleepy Member Posts: 70
Thanks for the info. Terry. One question. As a relative novice to this board, what is a "handshaker"?

    ~Andrew
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... A handshaker is a manual tranny.. and for future reference, a Meatclever is a 5/6 speed that comes standard only..

    got it ...? .l.o.l.

I am planning to purchase a new Acura 3.2TL or Volvo S-60 and have a 1994 Lexus GS-300 that I am thinking of trading in. The car has 81,500 miles and the options include leather seats, Nakamichi stereo, traction control, heated front seats, in trunk CD changer, power moon roof, basically it is loaded. The paint is in what I think is excellent condition, with the exception of some small cracks on the back bumper some backed into me (and then drove away). What can I expect to get when trading this in?
  • inkyinky Member Posts: 370
Experts out there? I am selling my 01 Toyota Sienna XLE myself. It is actually perfect and unblemished. Leather, Power sliders, JBL six disk changer, VHS built in video system, Moon roof and a host of extras including a tow package. 11,000 miles. Sand Mica.
    List new was $35,653
    Invoice was $31,500.
NADA trade with all adds is $26,250
Kelly blue book private sale is $29
Edmunds wholesale is like $24 (but cannot add most extras it has)
What can I expect. I have listed in paper for $27,500 considering identical to 02 models which will go for $32 new.
My bottom line price is $26,750. Is this realistic.
    INKY and Thanks
