I went Monday to pick up the car and my Salesman could not find the keys, Finally he said the used car manager told him he had a buyer at $34,000 and the person was taking the car on a test drive. The used car manager said the price listed in their ad was a mistake and he's not going to lose $2000 on the car. I'm giving my Salesman a day to fix this before I go in and raise hell!!!!!! The car re-appeared at the dealer last night, I will keep you posted.

I went back reviewed some of your posts about this car. If it has the sport package, despite being AWD, it has summer tires. I would tell the dealer for an extra 2k, you have several choices with lower mileage. They will ask you where are these cars? You tell them they should be concerned with selling you their car, not worrying about the one you can buy down the street.

I had a less than good experience with a dealer one time. They used an employee's address for the survey. I know that because when I didn't get it, I called the manufacturer to find out why. Of course, I was completely forthright when I did get it. Funny thing is, 15 years later I just bought an Explorer from them 3 months ago. Buying a pre owned vehicle might not get a survey from the dealership.

I purchased my Escape from the same dealer, transaction was fast got me the car wanted no problem. My Mother sister and aunt have all purchased cars in the last two years from the same dealer he got them the color they wanted, options etc. I don't want to slam the whole dealership because of the actions of one a-hole. Plus my salesman worked with me to push up the price of my trade-in and pushed thru the deal.

We agreed on an out the door price over email and when I went to pick it up he said they couldn't honor the price, said they feel it's going to be a hot seller and wanted $1500 more. I told him where to go, put in a BBB complaint, and a complaint with the online buying website (Edumnds) that I used.

2005 GMC Yukon XL Denali 6.0 V8, Auto, AWD (the only way they come) 108,3xx miles Pewter over Grey leather Its a Denali, so they come load, but this one adds all the options: Nav, rear DVD, rear heated captains chairs, and moonroof. It just had a full detail 2 weeks ago, clay, 2 coats of wax, full interior shampoo etc. Tires have 10,000 miles on them (Bridgestone Duelers) All service records since 35,000 miles, when I bought it. Clean carfax, no paintwork, a few scratches, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 7 year old truck. Otherwise, in excellent shape.
The possible trade I've located, also in Brunswick, at the local Kia store, ironically, where they traded it on a new Soul:

In talking preliminary numbers last night, we wound up at $22,500 on the VW and $8000 on the Yukon. After taxes, fees etc, the difference was around $16,200.
I think that's a decent deal, but I think there's a little room left. The dealer (owner) said he had $21,000 in the Jetta, which is definitely all the money on it, but he has no idea what he bought either.
I'm no expert but $8,000 around here (north of the mason-dixon) would have that thing sold in minutes. If trucks are popular there...I'm betting you could sell it very quickly on your own.
Now for the VW...be very careful of these. The '09/'10 have high-pressure fuel pump issues and when they grenade...it's very expensive. There's an investigation going on with NHTSA regarding this and it appears to be a bigger problem than VW is letting on. My neighbor lost his at 40k miles and dealer wanted $10k to fix and refused warranty. Took six weeks of arguing with VW to get it fixed under warranty. He traded it in shortly thereafter. I'm a huge VW diesel fan...but I won't touch this latest gen.
interesting. I've also been mentioning around here 2 coworkers of my father who both have TDI sportwagens and both have had failures. One traded his and the other has a dead car right now that VW refuses to fix under warranty.

It doesn't help the situation that TDIs are relatively rare and the VW dealer service departments don't see them that much, which ensures that they'll be even more incompetent than normal.
I dunno here. First off, the Jetta is real cheap, these can't be found, when ya can find em people are real proud of em. I'd expect it to hit $22k at the sale so I'd say it would normally take $25k to buy one at retail.
How that compares to new I have no clue.
The Denali seems cheap... what am I missing here... 05 Yukon Denali XL with 108k, roof, leather, nav? Nice shape, good rubber? $8K?
Galves is $11,475 on it without adding for 20" wheels if it has em. Now, I'm not sure I'd be full boat book on the thing but $8k seems light.
Now, on the other hand I'd say expect to pay $24k plus and I'd hit the trade around $9,500-10k if it was sitting in front of me. A bunch more if it was black.. the livery companies out here eat em up.
So we're $2k off retail on the Jetta and $1500-2k off trade on the Denali.
I'd say to shoot for a $14k difference and settle at $15k so the #s aren't as stupid as they seem maybe.

$22,500 for a used VW with 42,000 miles? Like some others have said, a lot of people (including myself) have had abysmal experiences with VW's. The 1990 Passat I owned for 6 months was one of the worst cars I ever owned. It had engine problems, transmission problems, & other problems. It was only a few months old when I bought it. Oh, & the dealer was less than useless.
Then there was my roommate's experiences with a brand new Rabbit in the '70's........She filed some kind of lawsuit against VW as I recall....
Thanks for the info. The "unknown" on the Yukon is they priced it solely by looking at Manheim auction reports from FAAO and West Palm. So they probably are fairly light on the trade. I'll probably just sell it myself and not worry about the trade.

Its unfortunate because of all the cars I've looked at, its the first thing I've found that meets all my needs, which are something that can handle family duties (soccer, bicycles, vacations etc) but still get decent gas mileage, since it will be my work car, and I travel extensively for work. I'd love some suggestions for something else that fits. This is probably a question for the CCBA forum, so I'll probably post over there.
The 2.0T can still get pretty decent mileage. I get about 30 mpg with my GTI cruing at 75mph on the highway. So I'd say look for a sportwagen with that engine. Would be considerably cheaper, too.

The Sportwagen only comes with the 2.5 inline 5 or the TDI. The Jetta sedan can be had with the 2.0T, but not the wagon.
I posted this over in the CCBA forum also, and have had good suggestions on what else to look at. Thus far, the leader is the Mazda5, which I like, but a GTI has been of interest to me too, but it would have to be a 4 door, which are very hard to find, new or used.
According to Edmunds, the 2009 Sportwagen SEL came with the 2.0T.
I don't, however, see that option in 2010.
By the way, the 2.5 really isn't all that bad. 180hp is sufficient. I've driven a Rabbit with that engine and thought it quite peppy.
And, yes, the 4-door GTI is tough to find. I only came across 1 in my state when I was searching. Wound up buying the 2nd one I found, which was across the border in another state.

So I tried to sale my 1999 Jaguar XJ8 80,000 miles moon roof winter package with a sagging head liner for $5000/ best offer, plenty of tire kickers but no firm offer. My classes start next week so between classes and work I don't have the time to sale the car. My plan now is to try one of the auction houses Midwest Auto Auction here in Michigan, they charge $20 a week to have my car on their lot and website and a $150 fee if they sell the car. If the car hasn't sold by Friday they will run it thru their weekly auction. I have to set a reserve if they sell it over the reserve they get a percentage of the profit. What say yee o wise men and women of Real World Trade-In Value?
I have a 2004 Silverado 1500, xcab. 81k miles, LT package (leather seats, power seats (both), Bose stereo with XM satellite, LoJack (sp?), all 4 tires have less than 10k miles. Fiberglass camper shell (color matched, with sliding side windows and inside light), spray in bedliner. The leather seats are showing a little wear, but no splits, tears, or rips. Other than that the interior and exterior are near perfect.
I am located in Houston, TX. What can I reasonably expect to get for this on a trade in for a new Chevy or Ford pickup?

Edmunds told me $9.7k, I was expecting to be offered about $8.5 to $9k. This past Saturday, Lone Star Ford offered me $7k as a trade-in on a new F150. I thought they were screwing me, but just trying to make sure.
I definitely passed up the offer. Ordinarily, I never do trade in, just sell myself. But this was a newspaper deal, and included $500 trade allowance -- could not get the advertised price without a trade in.

Actually Fezo is partially correct. I'm considering a new car but right now I'm seeing dealers sticking firm on MSRP. I was thinking of selling the Eclipse for cash now, buying a beater to get me through the winter and then looking for a new car in the spring when supply/demand will be back in balance and thus a better deal is possible.
