Here's one for ya...friend has a black Altima, I'd guess a 96...no frills, never waxed so the paint is in rough shape (faded, no shine), almost 220,000 miles. He swears he can get someone to pay 2500-3000 dollars. I was thinking $300 would be more realistic. What do you think?
oh yea, NJ.
It does have the following aftermarket equipment on it: cold air intake and adjustable Konig springs. Only exterior imperfection is a 3" scratch on the hood between the headlights.
Otherwise the car looks new inside and out. Non-smoker, no McDonald's souveniers, and no parking lot kisses. The car is in suburban Atlanta.
Should we take the $13,000 or hold out for more? Boyfriend wants either a G35 Coupe or a Accord EX V6 6-speed when they come out.
38K miles, leather, moonroof, fully loaded. Has two dings on one door from people opening doors into it. Has been factory serviced.
How much can i turn the car in for, I just want cash.... ?
Thanks
-Jay
Even Nissan's website says so. Sounds to me like you are looking at some oddball PF if you are correct. Not too sure I'd want an LE without leather and pwr seats.
Have you looked at an Infiniti QX4? Same basic truck but even more luxurious and a better warranty.
Good luck and keep searching!
The Sandman :-)
I'm going to guess, he has at least $14 in it .. So, I'm thinkin' in and around mid $15's might take it home ..
good luck and let me know ...

Those kind of miles scare a Benz and Volvo buyer .. $3,0 .? Not on this planet .! A ghee Wiz or so, is about all the money ... email me to answer the other question.
Terry ;-)
Dealers are paying the high $11's for the nice ones .. if you have had it for sale for awhile, then you might just consider cutting it from the herd. Remember, "cash is king" and $13 is not a bad price at all, you might be holding out for less ...

Since we will most likely have to buy (and possibly resell privately) instead of pay for mileage and average wear we hope to negotiate the price as low as possible. Not sure how the lease company looks at that. Do they generally wholesale them after the car is returned? If so do they want work with people?
The initial contact was almost insulting with the so-called customer service rep. She was reading from a script and tried to tell me we I was "saving" money by taking the full price buyout now and then re financing with them for 5 years!!!
Any advice is appreciated since this is our first lease.
At a Acura dealer or most import dealers you should be seeing around $12,5 if it's a 4Dr, if it's a 3dr, you should be around the high $11's ..
I hope I answered this :-)
Terry.
Actually it just sounds like the average vehicle that gets traded everyday. Needs a detail, a service maybe, tires should be deep .. this vehicle would pull almost $4,000 on a trade and all cleaned up.
A dealer would put it up for sale at $6,9 and see $5,5/$6,5, see you could be buying the same vehicle, but just all dolled up .. so, I don't know if I would walk away -- spend $50/$75, drop it on a top Tech and see if he's gives it a good report card.
Terry.
The G35's are starting to drop off the MSRP side, which is a big help for you. I just bought a couple at auction loaded up for the $28/$29 figure with 3k/6k, so they are still strong. I have driven a few, got about 600 miles in one .. I like em' a lot.!
An aggressive dealer should be hitting your vehicle in the tall $17's ..
good luck and let me know ...

'01 Expedition XLT in that "No Boundaries" package
21K miles
2WD
Black with grey leather
4.6L V8
Trailer tow pkg
6 disc changer
3rd row seat
rear A/C
all the usual power goodies
in absolutely perfect condition in Charlotte
Dealer was asking $24,995. Bro got it for $20,400 before TTL.
What say you? Seems to me that 20 large for a like-new Expedition is a steal but maybe I'm misreading it.
He did GREAT .. and he should be arrested .! he stole that puppy .. gheeeez, had he listened to the BB heads over at the buy New/Used section, he could have spent $12 grand more and depreciated it over the lifetime of his dog ..l.o.l...
Terry ;-)
The miles are a little tall, so if it clean, nothing mating in the interior, no paintwork, service is done and still looks New .. trade side, you should be in the high $16's low $17's ..
Terry.
So where art thou .?
Terry.
If there is no paintwork, no little kisses from hell, you should be in and around that $20ish figure on a trade .. the big holdup here is the miles, Vette buyers like all those with the Itsy Bitsy miles program.
Good luck ...
Terry.
I was referred to this forum by someone in the GMC forum. I live in Colorado Springs and I'd like to get an accurate appraisal for trade / resale value in my area.
Currently the vehicle is leased, but I've obtained a payoff amount from the selling dealer so I can possibly get out of the lease w/ the least financial damage. (much less to payoff the darn thing than to pay lease termination penalties) The payoff is just under 25K. Where do you think I sit? How far upside down am I really? I don't trust what the dealers tell me.
DATA: 2002 GMC Envoy SLE 4X4 w/ 12,000 mi.
Pewter exterior, Charcoal interior, Onstar on board, Towing Pkg, 17 inch alloy wheels/tires
Standard SLE equipment pkg:
Automatic, 4WD, AM/FM/CD, Heated mirrors, rear wipe/wash, Front/Side airbags, Front/rear heating vents, Clean paint, no dings/scratches! Garaged and regularly maintained.
Aftermarket accessories:
Tinted Driver/Passenger Windows
(complements factory privacy glass)
Vent visors all around
Rear window deflector
Cargo mat
Bug Shield
Smoked Tail Light covers
Vehicle has been immaculately maintained... all a selling dealer would have to do for prep would be to wash exterior and maybe vacuum interior!
Thoughts are appreciated...
Their other option is to enforce the "early termination clause" and get their cash out of that end...
Now, if you are asking "Hey Terry, does is make sense for me to buy this at $XXXXX and then take out an ad on my own and try to get $XXXXX on a private sale or should I just walk away and pay $XXXX?" that is a whole different set of actions...
Has the dealer indicated that there may be 'alternatives'??? Aren't the lease terms dictated by the leasing company, not the dealer???
Can you help me out with the trade-in and private sale value of this car?
1996 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

AM/FM/CD Changer in console
2 front 6-way power seats
Alloy wheels
Rear Wiper
Rear air and audio controls
Privacy glass
Roof Rack
Fog lamps
Cargo cover / floor mats
Overhead console
Thanks!
I would figure high $13's low $14's ..
sorry :-(
Terry.
The miles are pretty low but do you think I could come close to my payoff amount? If not, would there be enough demand to try to sell it privately so I could get rid of it w/in a reasonable amount of time w/ a few $'s left over?
Thanks a lot for your help!
If you were to run this through an auction today, it could do $16 and some change, it being deep in rubber, no parking lot kisses, Ya know, just a jam-up vehicle ..
Now is the $16,9 a Today figure ..?
Always make sure you are speaking with Toyota lease, Not the dealer, they won't do the deal unless they make a little jingle .. so don't go there. Get a hold of the Regional/District Mgr for the leasing source and most times they will negotiate - don't tell them the miles, they aren't stupid, they know why you are calling ...
I hope this helps and let me know .
Terry.
4wd..?
SLS .. SLE ...........??
Off with your head ...!
Terry.
The 16.9 (including GA 7% sales tax)is the residual about 6 months out.
What a great resource you are to have. You are a gem! Will check back in when we are closer to the final figures.
Please what's a good trade-in figure on this Cali car and whats retail? i know there are ads in the paper for special $599/mo deals on the '03 E320 which dont help...TIA.
Separately, how is the old body style E class doing at the auctions now? Hit bad?
Terry.
It will be interesting too see how the new "E" will do and how the old "E" will market out .. It will be interesting to see how buyers will accept a small, medium or large of the same looking vehicle ..
But anyway, you have the sport pack, Navs are worth about $300 on a trade, miles are ok, color is the right one, if yours is a baby doll, clean to the bone, no paintwork, no interior invasions, no parking lot kisses, then you should be in and around that $37ish figure on a trade, that's what they are doing auction side. ..
Down Retail Rd., I would be asking $45,900 and let some nice Salvation Army person take it off my hands for $44/$45,5 .. most books will show a huge figure over this, but don't hold your breath.
I have bought, driven and sold a bunch of these "E"s, great vehicles .. it will be interesting to see how they fair with the new model .. in my stupid, humble opinion I feel the will go the way of BMW, the new "7" is cooold and the old "7" seems to be going static because folks prefer it .. so we will see.
I have seen the lease ads for $599, it's structured on a base 320, with $4 grand down and 39/48mo, so by the time you get the first, security, a this, that, and an upgrade of vehicle, your going to be over $700 with the taxes and $5 grand down.
Personally, I would rather buy yours, put the $5 down, get $4.9% from my credit union, go 60 months and have payments of $750ish, and be the master of my own destiny .. but I'm just goofy that way.
I hope this helps ...
Terry.
It's the right color, it's has all the good stuff, miles are a little on the stiff side, but you say it's "clean to the bone", so that's what it's all about .. on a trade, you should be seeing, in and around $24ish for the vehicle.
So, you are in great shape. By the way - what are you trading for .?
Terry.
Milwaukee dealers should be lookin' for a nice one right about now, trade side you should be $5,5/$6,0 maybe a little more if it's just flat perfect.
good luck ...
Terry.

Learned Friends:
So I stumble across this ad in the paper, 1995 Legacy Wagon 5sp "fair condition means you get it below book at $12,500". Needless to say I called to see if they're a candidate for the "Dream-On Prices" BB or if there's a typo, maybe... Sure enough, they're asking $1k, and the darned thing needs a valve job... which their friendly mechanic at the Mobil station will do for $2k -- ouch. So they need to say bye-bye to it, and I'm thinking this'd make a great winter beater.
Plus they said they had a dog, and my 3yr-old LOVES dogs, and they live a mile from here, so what the heck, we went and looked at it. Big mistake; i kinda like it.
The nitty-gritty: It's got matching dents in the frt bumper, a little scrape here & there, it's red, it's got 146k miles, and yeah, the compression IS lousy and it does need a valve job (how do I know it isn't rings?), cuz it died on me once before it warmed up. Also, the interior is pretty chewed up (literally: Dachshund), the tires are totally worn out, and the seat is ripped, and if it weren't 21 degrees this fine morning, it woulda smelled like dog I just know it.. the pass side mirror is duct-taped together from ripping it off in the garage, you get the idea. ALso, the check-engine light is on permanently and they don't know why, and neither does the dealer; they think a valve job might fix it, and I'm thinking what does compression have to do with emissions??? It would have to be really bad, and the darned thing runs like a bat out of hell... they say the AC works, and I believe them....
They are very nice people, university types, so to speak, and while they don't know from cars, they do know to change the oil, and they have realistic ideas on price... so what say you?
Just buy it and drive it as a winter beater and not worry about all the "stuff" on it? Once it gets warm again, the dog smell is probably the killer, but if I get it for <$1, i'll probably get my money back at least... it needs a good vacuum, a coupla seat covers, and some black tape over the MIL, and would last me through the winter, no? My "commute" is 3 miles, so I can always walk home... my other car is a Corolla, so I got THAT covered...
Or I can do it right; what am I looking at for the valve job -- anybody have a feel for it? $2k sounds high, but I really don't know... then get a smart tech to figure out the MIL if they can... Unfortunately this puppy is OBD-II, and the first year no less, so there is a good chance the light will just stay on forever... once everything is fixed, it's prbably still a $1500 car....
Whaddayathink?
TIA -Mathias (East Lansing, MI)
Go to Walmart and have a set of their cheapo Douglas tires installed. Toss in some 5W-30. Hope the battery holds out thru the winter and drive it till it croaks.
Looks like a nice winter project for ya .. like, you have nothing else to do.
Terry :-))
The danged thing is, this puppy runs STRONG... and I'm a sucker for this sort of car. The missus, however, may see things differently.
Seat covers, tires, maybe some heavier-weight oil, and it should run until spring, whereupon I could ditch it for same $$$... or it could conk out next week and I'm out my money....
I REALLY should know better but at least it's not a lost cause like that quattro I had my eyes on 3 months back...
-Mathias
Looking for an opinion. Can buy either a 99GLS w/ 49K miles for about $8K or an 02GX w/ 29K miles for about $11K. The GLS has the 3.8L engine.
Any thoughts on the better deal? Seems like the big diff with the GLS is the leather (no sunroof). But GX is still under warranty and 3 yrs newer (it's a GM program car).
I'll keep car till it's dead so resale not an issue.
TIA,
Odiemutt
Options, color in & out, condition, location, etc are needed. Be as specific as you can.
BTW, the '02 sounds like an ex-rental car. Have you run a Carfax on either?
Any thoughts on the better deal? Seems like the big diff with the GLS is the leather (no sunroof). But GX is still under warranty and 3 yrs newer (it's a GM program car).
MORE INFO:
The 02 is an ex-rental from Virginia. Has pkg that included pwr driver seat, traction control, better audio. Condition looks good & clean. Color white.
The 99 is a GLS without any other options. It's the 3.8L engine vs the normal 3.5L engine. Color black.
This is in the northeast.
