Took it to the dealer at noon today.
Yep, seen this before, we'll fix under warranty; this should not be happening. Make an appointment, we'll take care of it.

Man I wish I hadn't saved $20 by buying 90 miles away from here...

Just kidding, it's 1/2 way into my 2-mile "commute".

its been rather peaceful around here lately?
  • driftracerdriftracer Member Posts: 2,448
it's as boring as mom and dad's place out in the country!
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
With peace and quiet. I rather enjoy it.......probably why I live in the middle of no where. Have to drive 85 miles one way to go to taco bell, the movies, doctor, get groceries, ect. The closest gas station is 26 miles away.

Hmmm, that's probably how I can rack up 30k/year.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
have you told the pros on here what you told me in the titan board?
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I let it slip out in RWTV and got slammed. But hey, on the bright side, the Chevy is gone and I did buy a truck that *should* be reliable and hold its value.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,678
You have to get out more... 4 weeks earlier, and I would have won. Congratulations on the new truck!!

We were just waiting for the *right* truck and the *right* deal. Everything clicked on this one, lowered the interest rate, got a truck that's better on gas, AND we unloaded the Chevy too!! Plus we bought a truck that should hold its value better than a Ford and be more reliable.

We are thrilled with the Titan. Going camping in a couple weeks, can rent a 22 ft travel trailer from services on base for just a small amount per day.......sure beats a hotel room.

Now you guys can put the betting sheets away, hubby has put the perverbial foot down and said its the Titan or a Tempo......I think you know my choice. lol
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
you got the right truck...with that huge monster engine, you can get a bigger trailer now. ;-)
  • scantyscanty Member Posts: 164
So I was only off by a week. But I thought you would get the V-8 Exploder. I think you did great on this deal. You get better gas mileage, higher resale, more towing capacity, room for your stuff, a lower payment, and you dumped the Chevy? That's a win-win-win-win-win-win.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Thing that amazed my hubby was the Titan is 305 hp and 379 ft lbs torque.......his V10 is 300 hp and 440 ft lbs torque, that just blew him away that Nissan has a truck that's nearly as powerful as his beloved Dodge. His Dodge does all our really heavy towing.....anything over about 8k.

As for the travel trailer, yup, we are getting a bigger one. We have had our eye on a Forest River Surveyor 255RS....its 27 feet long closed and 32 feet long with the rear slide out. It has a dry weight of about 4500 lbs and a wet weight of around 6000 lbs. Its perfect for us.......sleeps 6 without using the dining room table or the sofa, convert those to beds and it sleeps 10. Price difference is only a couple thousand bucks between the big trailer and the one we were looking at (much smaller).

Its nice to not be limited by towing capacity. The Titan can pull any of the campers we've been interested in.

I'm sooooo glad we didn't buy a V8 Explorer and instead looked at the Titan, MUCH better vehicle.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
The Ford dealer didn't want to step up to the plate, said they had too many used Explorers and really didn't want mine, so they lowballed me. Heck with them, the Titan blows Ford out of the water anyway.

This deal worked perfect for us and we are glad. I didn't get the color I wanted, but am happy with the one I got now that I have it. They call it Sedona, I haven't quite figured out *what* color it is.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
kind of like a "rust" color. which model did you get? 4x4, i assume. xe? se? le?

did you get the utility bed pkg?
    big tow pkg?

in the famous words of george costanza...

"i want details, and i want them RIGHT NOW!!!"

    ;-)
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I got a Crew Cab SE 4x4, 18" wheels, Sedona ext, sand/steel int, with the SE Utility bed pkg, SE Popular package w/power captain, Big tow pkg w/VDC, Offroad pkg, floor mats, and splash guards. It also has a grille(brush) guard on it, not sure where that fit in, was no charge I could see for it.

I swear that truck draws tons of attention around here since nobody else has one in my area.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
the off-road pkg. comes with 17" wheels. if you have 18", then you dont have the off-road pkg.

    nice truck, tho.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
That was what was weird, it definatly has 18" wheels, and it has the offroad pkg. It says 4x4 Offroad on the sides. The Offroad pkg is listed on the window sticker and yeah, its supposed to have 17" wheels. It definatly has 18's, wonder if somebody robbed the 17's off of it? I don't care, I'd rather have the 18's.
  • dbgindydbgindy Member Posts: 351
I wasn't slamming was I? Mess with you yes, slam no even though you cost me big money in the pool ( grumble,grumble)... :-)

    Duncan
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
if you are gonna take it off-road regularly, i would go back and get 17s. they give better traction, and are cheaper to replace...besides...i think the 17s look better.

and do you guys BELEIVE her nerve???? she bought a nissan...and it wasnt from ME!!!

    :-(
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I was just teasing about the slamming thing, lol.

As for the pool, well, this deal even surprised me, we were in the process of ordering the bigger hitch for the Explodeder when hubby wanted to look at the Titan first.

I don't regret it, I like my new truck.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I saw both and preferred the 18's personally. I don't go offroad that much, so I don't think it will be a huge deal. Usually if I do go offroad (like we did on Saturday) its on a logging road, the Titan has no trouble in the little bit of mud we had to go through. I'm not one to stump jump my trucks, I try to keep them in good shape.

I have officially declared the interior of the Titan a *dog free zone*, our dog can ride in the bed of the truck. She ruined the back seat of the Explorer by puking all over it, had to take the truck apart and still never got the sour dog food smell out of it......really nice to open the door of the truck after its been sitting in the hot sun all day. *GAG*

My biggest worry is finding winter tires for this beast. I don't think I can make the 16's from the Explorer fit......lol.

As for buying from you......well, um, sure, if you would have delivered the truck and take my 2 trades back with you. ;-)
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
i would have found a way! lol
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I doubt the Chevy would have made it past the Canadian border, it would have tossed a tire or something. Thing was worse than a 2 year old throwing a temper tantrum.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
    i spent 8 days on vacation with a 7 year old...the tantrums arent limited to 2 year-olds.
  • dbgindydbgindy Member Posts: 351
Wouldn't have been worth it. With Jolie's savvy it would have only been a mini... :-)

    Duncan
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Yup, I hear ya about the tantrums........my 8 year old is the master at that. She is a piece of work, can talk circles around most car salespeople.

Duncan.....of course it would have been a mini, can't have any salesmen making money on my head now.

Where did you get the Titan - FBX or Anchorage?

    Congrats!

  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Bought it at the new Nissan dealer in Fairbanks. Normally I won't deal with Fairbanks dealers, but they gave the most for the Explorer and also took the Chevy. Basically a deal I couldn't refuse.

    Thanks, we love the truck!
  • manamalmanamal Member Posts: 426
About buying new cars, having bought 4 cars in the last 5 years. Ok...one of the new cars was totalled, and the other was a replacement for a dead 13 yo car.

My problem is I have my eye on a 2005 Outback/Legacy Wagon. ;).
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ....... Good lookin', ain't it ...!

                            Terry.
  • manamalmanamal Member Posts: 426
Sure is. And, unlike the pre 2005 Legacy/Outbacks, this one has enough headroom. Would have definitely bought this over my base Camry (in '02). Oh well....it will cost me an extra 11K for a stripped one. (figuring my low-mileage '02 Camry is worth 12K).

Besides, soon there will even be a nicer car. And I do not want to do a Jolie.

By the way, my next pick for Joly is Sept 19, 2005.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    That's over a year away!

SOMETHING will happen before then. The Titan will become too small or too big the ashtrays will get full, SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN!

And, don't forget they also own that V-10 Dodge Truck. Trust me, it will fail to fit the bill one way or the other.

No, it'll happen before the end of this year.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,350
You hit on one of the reasons I have trouble pulling the trigger. There is always something new and better just over the horizon, and if you buy today, you might miss it (unless, of course, you are Jolie who will get it anyway).

So, unless I am overwhelmed with auto lust, my eye keeps wandering.

The Sube was nice though (I sat in one the other day).

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
You guys are too much. The V10 will never leave, hubby has declared he will sell me into slavery before he gives up his beloved truck. (what is it with men and trucks?) Course that was on the heels of finding out his truck wasn't worth squat.

Besides, do you really think there would be a dealer out there who would put any money in a V10?? Nope. We shopped it before we traded the Explorer.......highest bid was $7k. That was for a 1999 Ram 3500 V10 4x4 reg cab dually, SLT Laramie, red/gray, with all of 19k on it and no, the Taliban didn't use it as a training camp, the truck is in great shape. That's fine, its hubby's truck, he likes it and it works for what he does.

I think the Titan will hang around for a while too, I like it, its big and quick, 2 of my favorite things with any vehicle. Plus it makes my brother jealous as h***. HEHEHE

Had we bought a V8 Explorer we wouldn't have gotten rid of it, but stupid me bought a base model V6 without thinking about the future. All I knew is the 97 Explorer I was driving was falling apart fast.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
if it comes down to getting rid of the dodge...i need a good housekeeper! ;-)

    prediction: 2/20/05
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
OUCH, lol. When he sold his 88 F-150 (bought new) in 1997 nobody could believe it. They all told him: "we thought you'd sell your wife before you sold that truck" His reply: "almost did". Ah, I feel the love.

I tell ya, that Titan gets attention. Was at the base yesterday, had it parked and was talking to hubby. Looked over at the truck and hubby says "uh oh", sure enough, there's the Chief looking it over.

Nobody else in this area (100 miles south of Fairbanks) has a Titan. I hope it stays that way. OTOH, everybody and his aunt and uncle has an Explodeder.

Count down is on, 24 hours until our fishing trip. Gotta load the Titan today.
  • butchbr73butchbr73 Member Posts: 325
i'm guessing before October/November'ish.... I'm with Isell here, something will happen. The Titan will end up being too big, or the Dodge just has too many miles, etc... doesn't matter what they offer, something will happen and they will have a new vehicle... let's all be realistic here. :)
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
The Dodge too many miles?? Hmmm, it has 19k on it now, will have approx 25k by fall time. So, unless he drops it off a cliff or falls a tree on it......which could happen considering last winter......I doubt he'll get a new truck.

Have a *little* faith guys. The last short bed truck I had, I kept for a whole year.......until I wrecked it.
  • butchbr73butchbr73 Member Posts: 325
have a little faith? we know you too well.... you said the same thing about the Explorer, never getting rid of it, keeping it forever, bought the extended warranty, have faith, etc.... we all know how long that lasted, maybe 3 months?

    :)
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
I never did buy the ESC because about 4 months in we realized it was too underpowered and wasn't going to be with us more than a year, due to our buying the camper next spring and going on vacation (first one in 11 years). Kept it almost 6 months and would still have it if the Titan deal hadn't come along.

I still prefer short bed pickup trucks over SUV's, so we'll see. Like I said, I kept the last short bed PU for a year.....then I wrecked it, darn mailman pulled out in front of me.
  • dbgindydbgindy Member Posts: 351
I had faith until I got tripped up on a margin call from your last purchase because I was into the extended contracts for you.
No more for me. I'm with Craig and Butch selling short.

I gotta get out of the commodities market.... :-)

    Duncan
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
" After four months in it we realized it was too underpowered?"

So...it had lots of power for the first three months?

Jolie, I've NEVER heard anyone better at justifing in their own minds reasons to get rid of cars.

Just admit it...you are hopelessly hooked on buying new cars constantly!

You are definatly the darling of this forum...BUT...be true to thyself!

The Dodge will be history by November.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
What I meant by underpowered was it couldn't tow over 5k, I liked the truck a lot. What I didn't like was 14 mpg on the hwy. But whatever, its gone and so is the cursed Chevy.

Just got the call from the repair shop $450.55 that we have to pay, then I'm calling the GSM at the Nissan dealership and telling him *HIS* Chevy is ready to be picked up.

Come on, you gotta admit this was a fair move. We killed all kinds of birds.....got a truck that will tow, got rid of the Chevy for decent $$$, AND lowered our interest rate considerably.

Somebody slap me hard if we try to buy a new car anytime soon. We gotta save our big pennies for the travel trailer.

Hmmm, can't buy another new car........sounds like its time to visit the tattoo shop again.......hehehe. That's not too expensive of a habit unless I get carried away.
  • driftracerdriftracer Member Posts: 2,448
one like the one I told you about!
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
Gonna get the "Ford" tattoo x'ed out and a "Nissan" one underneath? Your arm's getting pretty crowded.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,678
I'm with isell and butch.. Fall is looking good.. There will be some Prizm or Jetta TDI that gets "a million miles to the gallon", and that "will almost pay for itself".

I'm still ticked about missing on May 15th.

I've got 20 October in the pool.
Putting on my swami hat, I see a diesel Touareg in her future. The dog will complain about riding outside and my goodness, how did I ever live without an adjustable ride height before?

Tell you what...I'll give her the '89 Volvo. If Mrs. Lance has her way re: car payments, it'll be the last frickin' vehicle I'll ever own.

    Cynically,
    L
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
LOL, no, only have one tattoo and its a black cat sitting on a purple crecent moon.......its on my leg. Haven't worked up the nerve to go for number two yet.

I can't buy a VW, the only dealership....sales and service is 300 miles away and we all know how *reliable* VWs are....I've owned 2 and they like the service dept.

I would bet money that I will keep the Titan for a least a year........how's that? Any takers? I got $500 that says I do keep it until at least next July. That is unless it gets totalled......sure hope not.

The dang dog can just BITE ME, she trashed my Explorer, puked all over the back seat. She is NEVER welcome on the inside of my vehicles again. Stupid dog.......you make me look bad.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
is that you can just spray out the bed in the titan...

get the sliding bed divider, and you can make a make-shift cage for the pooch.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Until someone comes out with a canopy for the Titan we will use an airline crate, works good and keeps her happy butt contained.

Just to let you know, I checked with the GSM about the 17" wheels vs the 18" wheels, he said if its supposed to have 17" wheels and I want them, he'll switch them out. I dunno though, I love the 18's. He's very cool, I called him today to let him know the Chevy was good to go, so he's sending someone over to the repair shop to get it.

Hmmm, I just checked the door sticker and it says the OE size for that truck is 285/70R17. Looks like somebody robbed the tires/wheels of this truck.
