INKY
sounds almost a bit too good.
Sobers: NOt surprising. I have had my Accord for 9 months and 16,000 km. Thus far I have nothing to complain about the car, actually, I am full of praise for this car. Sure, its not the fastest or best looking but its the "best working" car on the road. 500km trips from Toronto to Montreal, going cross country to visit my University buddies and driving through snow, rain, extreme heat during summer and NO SQUEAKS OR NOISES, NO PROBLEMS. Damnit, I can go on, but you guys know what I'm getting at. Accord definitely deserves its place as one of the top 10 best cars.

Well, I can also go on and on about my Accord SE. I think for 2001 model LX has been significantly improved, with 6 speakers sterio with CD std, Alloys with ABS, Smart Airbags, Available Side Airbags on lower models & noise reduction. It is MUCH more than what Honda does in mid-model facelift. EXV6 is not much better buy with std 6-disc in dash, Traction control, Steering wheel Audio controls etc.
I guess Honda has taken care of warm sales chart for another 2 years !!
As for Toronto, I would say that Honda is the king of the hill.
For MY2001, the LX-V6 is probably one of the greatest bargains, They never sold the Lx-V6 in Canada until this year, and over here its priced the same as the EX with leather.
After doing lots of research and getting pre-approval for the loan, I requested email quotes from several online referral services and Honda dealerships. After about 8-10 requests, I got back only 2 quotes with a price and I arranged meetings with two other dealers. After the first dealer, we were offered a very low price on our trade (much less than I expected). He said it was the best he could do, so we moved on. We went to Schaumburg Honda. The guy we were supposed to meet was out sick, so we sat down with another salesman (Roy Porter) and spent 10 minutes telling them what we were looking for, our trade, etc. I was a little irritated at the fact that this was all information that had been given to the other salesperson via email and phone and we were wasting time repeating ourselves, unnecessarily. They asked what the best price we'd been given so far and they matched it. They offered me 3x what the other place offered for my trade. After reading Edmunds.com and from previous experiences, I was very apprehensive and tense about the whole car buying ordeal. I was watching for money getting moved around, fees being added, etc. That didn't happen. We agreed on a price of $22,957 + $440 dest. + taxes.
Now, I'm thinking the easy part is done as we move into the f&i office. I was surprised. We met with Glenn Meier who walked us through all the paperwork, explained everything to my wife and I and showed us all the numbers. We had agreed to let them offer financing to see if we could beat our existing approved loan. He said that he'd run the credit it was excellent and he would like to keep the financing in-house if he could. He had the same rate as we had gotten, so we financed through them. He was never pushy or intimidating; he was very helpful and straightforward.
Overall, I had a good experience with them and would recommend them. I was prepared and felt things went well. I dealt with Roy Porter in New Car Sales and Glenn Meier in finance.
And after two weeks and 1300 miles with the car I think it's a great car. The only complaint is how low the steering wheel is, even at it's highest and I wish they offered a telescoping feature.
Enjoy,
Jeff
Jeff: Congratulations and I hope you continue enjoying the car.
I think I'm seeing a pattern with Honda dealer experiences. I have yet to hear a horror story!
I'm sold!
Do you know if the LX-V6 come with an alarm system, and the garage-door opener?
I asked a friend of mine who owns a dealership and he said that the EX's this year have dropped about $2000 in price and that's because there's no more leather.
One word of caution though. I think when the accessories are installed by the time you take delivery, the accessories have the same warranty period as the car. But if you buy the accessories afterwards, then I think the warranty is only for 1 year. This may be important for something like an alarm system. So what you could do is negotiate and buy the accessories RIGHT AFTER you've reached agreement on the car so they could put the accessories on before delivery. Or get the dealer to agree that if any accessory is purchased within a certain time period, it would still have the car's warranty period.
As for the price of the dealer-installed alarm, I live in Canada and my car was a CR-V so the price I paid may not mean anything to your Accord. But for the record, the list price for the alarm with the hood switch and siren kit was about $750 CAD. I knew it was quite a but more than an after-market system, but as I said in my earlier post, I actually really like the features on the Honda dealer-installed alarm, plus the concern over compatibility with the car's electronics.
My apology to anyone who had to put up with this rather long post.
I was wondering, does anybody know is there going to be some promotion for Accord from Honda, in a couple of months? I heard they used to have low APR sometime during the year.
Thanks.

Late!!
Besides that Pontiac has perfromance only in image
GM needs to think about Olds & Buick. They just need to cancel thse brands & integrate their good pruducts with Saturn/Chevy. POntiac essentially is same as Alero with odd body cladding !!
If Gramd AM is better car then every similar car from GM is better than Accord !!
Also GM gives HUGE discounts to sell these products. There is horrendous resale problem. TON of sells to rental companys is one area I am very worried about.
The car is in great shape, but the wheels look terrible.
Thanks
I don't know if it's possible to repaint those wheel covers...probably not.
You might scour the boneyards for some good used ones. They are usually in pretty good shape.
I can certainly see why a person would want something different. A Grand Am sure wouldn't be my choice, but...hey, if that's what you like...
Sobers is right though, they do depreciate like a ROCK!
But that's a factor that some people don't care about.
Buy what you like!
I drove a rental Grand Am just two weeks ago. If you mean excitement as in butt ugly, then yes, it has a lot of excitement both inside and out. What were the designer thinking when they design the interior of that car? Other than the ugly styling, there were nothing remarkable about the car.
PS. Alloy wheels will get damaged just as easily as hbcaps when you hit the curb. Only alloy wheels will be much more expensive to replace.
1 more thing, also read my response to one of your posts in the Maxima thread.
