You could still do everything without removing the trunk lock; you'd just have to mount the wing emblem a bit lower and carve out enough from it so the lock fits in. Make sure you install the nylon cord.
Razorstars- Hey tnsc, Dc does not make this wheel themselves , they buy them. I used to know who did them but it slips my mind . I will look into this at work and try and get some info for you . I do have a feeling that they are done some place in Ontario .We no longer use this rim ,but I imagine the same company makes others for us..
For those who are considering doing this, it really is a piece of cake. I didn't heat my lettering with a blow dryer--it was a hot, sunny day and didn't pose any problems. I tried the floss trick on the first couple of letters, then discovered it was just as easy to simply get my thumbnail under a corner and start peeling the letters back (they're a very flexible plastic--almost like a foam). After getting them off, I used WD-40 to clean up the remaining residue, then went over the areas with some Zymol Cleaner Wax. I did both sides and the trunk in less than a half hour.
The new look is, to my eye, nicer and makes the car look a little more customized. I'm considering taking the 300M badges off the sides, but I'm a little uncertain whether it would be a plus. Anyone have photos of a clean-sided M? Is the technique basically the same as for the lettering?
there are holes under there that accomodate the side blinkers found on the eurpoean M's.
Avalanche has a clean-sided M... even took off the body moulding. Don't have the website available to my ready, but I'm sure if he reads this, he'll point you in the direction of a picture
i took off the 300m emblem up on the front fenders, and i filled in that accent line when i shaved the handles, cuz if you leave the accent line the car looks like one HUGE 2 door.
no emblems, no bagding, no accent line, nothing at all except for that chrysler wing at the front. and that will be gone soon. i don't do this out of hate for chrysler or anything, lol. its the "in thing" to do now, right herm?
yea scotian they're practical. its a lot harder to bend a rim than most ppl think. a got a few friends who have been driving around on a 35 series tire for awhile now, no problems at all. it depends on teh rim. get chrome, they won't bend that easy. and there is still tons of clearance unlike most cars that you put 20's on, so you won't rub or anything. you can go over bumps, hills, etc., all that fine. when i get'em on here of course i'll give a better prospective..herm..comments?
sry man no clue. all i see is a weight panel, and just remember that why would they put this on the outside? you would think it would be on the inside so you can't see it. anyway, if i find out anything i'll post it up
have a 2000 LHs...at times the engine speed will jump up at least 500 rpm then go down almost as fast as it went up..doesnt affect the speed but you can see the gauge jump....happens when driving without any engine load...seen somewhere in this forum awhile back about an "oxygen controller(?") that the computer does not pick up in the engine analysis....lastly anyone with heater problems?
It is tough to have a loveone go to surgury. As you know, my wife did in January. But, I believe you said it was non-surgury procedure. That is always better than going under the knife.
After fighting with that damn access panel to remove it, than more so to replace it, I disconnected to negative lead on top to reset the computor. It was very easy of course!
Five hours later I drove my M. It was just a cruise, but it did shift better and run stronger! I do not know if if running stronger was because of the cool night air last night, but I will update you guys about it.
Congrats on you new exhaust system! Sounds like Borla finally got the 300M bugs worked out. Keep us posted. You said you made a cold air intake with a K&N cone airfilter and carbon fiber tubing. got any pics? Is it vented to the outside somehow like down to the lower grille opening? got pics :-) details please, it may be something we could all use.
Thanks again everyone who responded to my previous post of which color for the 300m would be the easiest to maintain. I know you guys mentioned Inferno Red as being the color that my dazzle the most. However, does anyone have a Deep Sapphire Blue Pearl 300M?(Love that color! and if so how has your experiences with washing the car has been. I currently have a Navy Blue metallic Chevrolet Malibu and I'd prefer to stay with blue(since that is my favorite color) but if constantly trying to wash it is going to be an agenda then I'd go with another color. Inferno Red/Silver are definetely tight though!
I have a '01 M that has a rough idle. The company I work for has a gas pump on site that I can use. The gas they buy is premium with alcohol(gasahol)in it. Could using premium gas cause the rough idle? I ran a can of injector cleaner through it with no help. My car has just turned 7,000 miles and has always idled rough. Any suggestions?
Using gas with the addition of gasahol is not good. The owners manual says not to use it, & so does the service manual. The regular premium gas may also be a problem. The manual also states it's not needed in our cars, & may hurt performance, & cause rough idle. 89 is what it says to use, 87 can even be used with only a drop in MPG. Alot of owners use 87, & most use 89(i do)
I have the Deep Saphire Blue and the only problems I have are water spots after washing and it gets HOT...D@$N HOT. I've actually burned the underside of my arm on the door sill. Stayed red for about a day. But man, does the car look nice when its clean. For a picture check out the site 300M Club That's what it will look like. If you would like to see more pictures let me know.
If you're partial to blue, you might want to think about Steel Blue, which is what I have. Being a little lighter, it doesn't show dust the way a black or Sapphire Blue would. Nonetheless, I was my M constantly--my wife claims it's an illness. Generally speaking, the closer you get to black the more your car will show dirt.
I also liked the Steel Blue and test drove one because I wasn't happy with the price on the Deep Blue at first. The Steel Blue didn't have PHG and I noticed it right away after having driven the Deep Blue with PHG. I ended up buying the Deep Blue during a tent sale on Memorial Day and they had $2,500 rebates on top of the sale price. Have about 4700 miles on it. Very Happy so far.
Had a good time the last two days driving out for the Monterey Rendezvous (got here a day early to visit some friends). Man, this is a nice car on the highway! Overhead computer says I got 24.8 mpg; computed on paper I come up with a hair over 25 mpg.
Maybe I'm cheap, but paying $60 for a motel when I just want some winks and then get back on the road doesn't do much for me. I took a thermorest inflatable camping pad (about 1" thick) and put it from the trunk through onto the folded down back seat. I'm 6'4" and was able to stretch out with my feet in the trunk, catch some zzzz's at a rest stop, and be back on the road.
Shave the letters of the sides, too. If you like the clean look in back, you'll like it on the sides. Here's a pic of my car: http://btjdesign.com/300m/m7b.jpg
The mirrors will tilt down when you put it into reverse, and the driver's mirror is autodimming. Sorry AV, no blinkers. You once mentioned how much you hate the bright lights hitting the driver's mirror. I do too.
Denver, you are a lawyer! Billing at a $100+ per hour! $60 bucks is nothing for you at those wages!
When I was a kid my parents had friends(a husband and wife with two kids) that use to drive around on Saturdays to the new car lots that had free hotdog give aways. That was their meal for the day. The man and wife both worked, but they were just plain cheap!
Denver, got any Pics of you and your M in camper mode?
Hey All.. Thanks for the suggestions on the WD40.. I'll do that instead...looks easy.. Scotian, I still think that the trunk thing is over my head, but who know's..I'm starting to get into the custom stuff..I just had the Baselink installed...same place as red..great sound and product..you can really turn up the volume going 100 with the windows down..can't drive 55! You know what I mean fellow M'ers..!
It was the day after I got the car only had time to remove the pentagram and the Kia logo's. Rest assured that the offensive frame and dealer crap were removed shorthly after the pic's were taken. I wondered if anyone was going to bust me on that! Russ you are quick.
WOW! I would never have the cojones to drive that fast, especially since my nephew went out in a blaze of glory at an estimated 130 mph. :>(
What amazes me is you seem to be going about 140, but the tach is only at 4500 rpm. I'll bet it was really purring. What does the wind noise and tire noise sound like at that speed? No, don't go out and try it again on my account, please.
Long time no post in here but I've been busy at work and being 21. Still have time to do some stuff for my baby though and I finally got some descent pics and also show off how I got the 300 Badge to go over the rear keyhole via the work of a dremel tool. Gotta love that thing. There's also some shots there of my sub install and the handy work of Scott's clock faces in there. So take a look and happy "M"ing!
I REALLY WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THESE COMPANIES THAT CLAIM THEY WILL PAY YOUR TICKETS FOR THE FIRST YEAR. ANYONE HAVE SOMETHING FROM ONE OF THESE COMPANIES AND HAD A CHANCE TO TEST IT OUT?
I think the most impressive thing there is not the speed but the fact that you managed to take such a good picture at that speed. At that speed I try not to blink much less snap off a few photos!!
I snapped a few off with my digital video camera (a very makeshift still quality cam) of both the Borla and the air intake...the Borla picts came out just fine, the intake is VERY hard to photograph. First off the Borla doesn't look any different than the previous model that I can tell except for the connector on the muffler. The intake photos look only like a black blob. To describe what I did: I detached the flexible air plenum from the OEM intake box. I left the box in place untouched, I try to make everything as undoable as possible, just ask my wife about the OEM exhaust thats currently in our utility closet! My neighbor races BMW's and had a extra carbon-fiber intake plenum for his M5, we looked at the situation and discovered that with a little trimming it would fit in the 300M. Attaching it was very easy using the OEM hose clamp already there. The air filter resides somewhat next to the battery and is protected by a 3 sided aluminum shield that also acts as a mini ram-scoop. This makes attracting water up from the bottom almost a non-issue. Still however I will switch back to the air box in the winter when cold-air is not a necessity.
The following items work: RADAR DETECTOR LASER/LIDAR DETECTOR
The following items are most likely a scam: RADAR SCRAMBLER/ JAMMER LASER/LIDAR SCRAMBLER/JAMMER
The detectors will work only in congested areas or on lazy cops. The problem today lies within the 'instant tag' or 'instant on' technology. With newer K and Ka bands, the officer can 'shoot' the radar out to you instantly. So if you are on a deserted road doing 100mph and he has instant on, you'll only detect it -- when he tags you.
Why would it work in congested areas or lazy cops? The congested area, he's probably tagging everyone who passes, which gives you time to react (mine can pick up a Kojak with a Kodak at a distance of over 1.5 miles). Laziness pays off if they don't want to lie in wait and just have it on with the alarm so they can do paperwork or what not and just look up when the alarm sets off.
Laser in instant. With a radius of something like one centimeter every 100 feet, it is not only difficult to detect, but also one of those 'you're screwed' technologies. It's light, not radiowaves, so it really can't be detected before hand. Also it is instant. I think an officer can get your speed with less than a second.
The scamblers/jammers are junk. I've read too many stories of people, not only getting caught thinking it works, but those same people testing it with the same cop that just pulled them over for speeding. If you do find one that works, there's a great chance it is illegal since civilians are not allowed to broadcast on those frequencies... at least not without a permit...
Check the web (my preference is google.com) and read up on it...
There's also an edmunds group if memory serves me right about these types of things.......
If you want to reduce the chance of a 'good' readout at far distances, minimize the reflectivity of your car.
Take off your licence plate. Put a bra on and things like that.
To see the reflectivity of the front of the car take a flash photo of the front of the car at night or in a completely dark area. Anything that glows, is what a radar/laser gun will detect first.
If you have a front licence plate, you'll see how reflective that is and why so many states like 'em!
From experience, K40 will only pay for any ticket that is
1-Radar taged 2-under 25pmh over the limit.
I have a k40, & an escort 8500
I just bought the 8500, so I'm still learning how to use it. The only speeding ticket I have ever got was in my boss's MB E55 AMG. I had the K40. but the MB has one of those heated windshields. I didn't know it at the time. So I was moving at like 100mph comming from Orlando on the FL turnpike going back to Boca Raton. Then I passed someone at like 115mph. Then went over a hill, & on the left was a trooper with his lights on, & pulled me over. The K40 didn't make a sound untill the cop was pulling up behind me. He tagged my at 109mph in a 70mph zone. Ticket was $380! I called k40 when I got back to work, & they said since I was going 39mph over the limit, they couldn't do anything, & advised me to slow down. Oh well... In the M it works great, saved me many times driving to NYC. I would say they work(for me anyway) The 8500 is supposed to be very good at the instant on radar. We will see. I put the K40 in my explorer, & the 8500 in the M. The V1 i'm sorry to say needs to be updated to the times. It's a good detector on X bands, but many cheaper detectors blow it out of the water on K, & KA bands. I heard they are comming out with a new better smaller unit. For laser, every test I have seen has proven that detectors are not fast enough for it. Chances are if you get hit with laser, you will get a ticket. I also limit the reflectiveness of the M. I have no front plate, & the bra. I also heard of a company that makes radar abortment stuff that sews into the bra. Don't know if it works though. Also all the radar jammers I have ever seen are scams, & they are junk.
It appears that Lincoln is listening to the performance minded consumer. A 5 speed manual, probably from the next mustang, should be appearing for the V8 LS along with a facelift.
How does that make you guys feel?
Chrysler's 300 will be the dominate performance sedan, but we have to wait till Sept '03 or Feb '04. Are you willing to wait?
This just seems to get worse. My previous post about the transmission is based on fact. This one is mainly a rumor, but still a posibility. I see the 250HP LS being bumped up to 300 - 325HP. Who knows, but wouldn't that give the 300n run.
Hi folks, long time no talk. I am curious to know if anyone else has felt the seats slide forward and back when stopping and leaving an intersection? I reported this last year, but no one had heard of it. There are 5 300m owners in my building alone, and we all have the problem. I would like to apply legal pressure on this issue at this point. Let me know, email me at Rey_Garza@dell.com and I will add you to the list.

I have that same problem, but I don't care about it much. I usually stop with grace, but sometimes when I apply a little too much presure I can feel the seat move.
I have noticed the problem in my 2001 since I got it. I have also heard of others having this problem and it appears that Chrysler is willing to accept a certain amount of movement. I don't remember the distance allowed but mine "feels like" it moves about 1/4". I think it has to do with the gear backlash in the seat motor / drive assembly. It's something I just live with because it only seems to do it when change in motion is sudden. Gradual starts and stops don't seem as bad.

yea indeed, faux it was....too bad it couldn't be real with me switching 6 gears baby, lol.
i drive a stick a lot, and am so used to letting off a little on the gas before switching i tend to do that with the autostick...
