The Vega was a nice looking car.

A year after my son and his wife moved into a 75 year old house, the A/C stopped working. When they took off the cover, there was a snake (deceased) that had gotten in and shorted out the capacitor. Before any large repair bill, I'd always check the efficiency difference from old unit to new if purchased. My thinking is avoid the cheapest end of the new offerings and buy up a notch or two. The highest, most expensive units sometimes have troubles as well as the cheapest units.
Another case where it made more sense to replace everything, rather than drop $1000 into the old one.

I did try 2 other dealers and with no luck getting a better deal. Thanks for your help and info.
Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
One of those involved committed suicide to avoid the reckoning. The kickback corruption came from the utility owning two nuclear plants. i believe I read recently someone at the utility was requesting a delay or pass on legal proceedings still going. I believe a small part of the original fees is still in place for the ratepayers--the original fees included monies for two regular power plants in INDIANA being paid by the Ohio ratepayers. Man alive. One thing that's nice about Ohio is that they have competitive natural gas and electric suppliers and a nice tool to compare offers.Except for the part where the utility executives bribed the state legislators and a bunch of them went to jail. Sticking the utility customers with $billions in extra charges.
I am currently paying 6.67 cents per KWH for electricity and 48 cents per cu/ft for NG.
Both are on 3 year fixed contracts with no penalty to opt out in case I find a better deal.
Similar problems with kickbacks and other alleged corruption have been existing in the State Teachers Retirement System for almost 15 years or so. Only the Teachers system is being plundered like the power company corruption. Not the other 4 smaller systems. My wife is retired teacher.

Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
Must be the season for that. Last night my son’s window unit crapped out on the cusp of a string of near 100 degree days. Luckily, I had an extra unit since I replaced the downstairs AC a few weeks ago.Well craptastic, main floor ac crapped out. I changed the capacitor but the contactor was stuck (thankfully on) and fan motor seized. A little Liquid wrench and we are back in business until it can be repaired.
The infuriating thing is that his unit was only going into its second season. Well past the 90 day cheapo warranty.
Re: Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous
We’ll see. One step at a time.
Glad you were not hurt and I hope your son was not with you. An idiot driving like that and it could have been worse for you and other cars around you.
Any idea when the insurance company will make their ruling?

yowzers. that is why if I ever get hit (and not hoping for it of course) I want them to hit me hard enough, in the right location, that it gets totaled out since I don't want a major repair job.
You found that one. They can find you an identical replacement easy enough (is new car replacement coverage still a thing?)
$15-20K sounds like a Rivian quarter.

Have any of you heard the story about Stellantis offering retirement buyouts to 60% of its US workers force? That sounds ominous.
