Re: Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous
@tifighter - I know a guy in CO (not @breld ) who has an ‘06 C2S with a 6MT in guards red. He also has a base Boxster (the year escapes me) with the only options being 6-Speed Manual (5 MT was standard) and PASM. He bought a newer 911 a few years ago (‘21 maybe) and sold it not too long after saying it didn’t give him the same driving experience as his 911 and Boxster.

When you are dreaming, what's another $7,000? For the past few years I've LOVED the look of the 911 Targa4 GTS. Last night while helping my sister look for a new SUV to replace her GLC300 4MATIC, my 18 year old son and I were "building" a Rogue for her. She is going to get a Rogue Rock Creek from Aronochi on LH. Afterwards he jumped to the Porsche website. I noticed the only way to get a "4" 911 is on the Carrera 4 GTS, the Carrera 4 GTS Cab, & the Carrera 4 Targa GTS. I noticed that the starting price of the 911 Targa 4 GTS is a staggering $190K. For a mere $7K more I can get myself a 911 Turbo. Or I'll have to wait for @breld to get bored of his '17 911, then he'll pick up a Turbo, and I still won't be able to afford one. A guy can dream can't he?
This kinda reminds me of my recent shopping. Looking at the configurator, I would spec a base Carrera different ways. I spent lots of time on the configurator. Later, I drove a 25 911 Carrera, sport chrono, PDK, freshly delivered. It was mine if I wanted it at MSRP, which was unusually strong for a car in stock. It was nicely spec’d. I was pretty confident I’d like it, it’s a 911 after all.
The problem was I didn’t. It was Fast with a capital F. It just didn’t feel that involving to drive. It was almost too perfect. The new ones are like a Taycan inside now, all digital dash etc. It would have been a great buy because the 26 prices went up a lot the next week, and they’ve raised them every year for the past 7 or so which basically safeguards the values of the used ones. They depreciate, but it’s measured in eons vs normal cars. Still, I just wasn’t sold on it. It all worked out in the end though, as the car I got is a sweetheart, for over $50k less.
Haven’t been back to the configurator. But never say never, I guess.
