Re: Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous
it has been a long time since I bought a moderately well used car (and may never again) but if I did, I would still follow my old rules of changing all the fluids that I did not know for sure had recently been done.

Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
The company I have now has been really good with claims. That's excellent info to have. My neighbor, OTOH, bragged about switching homeowner carriers and gushed about how good the new carrier was, so I asked whether she'd had a claim. The answer was no. So, all we really know is that the new carrier is good at taking her money.

Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
my take is that after 40 years, the only thing an insurance company has ever done for me is take my money. So going with the one that takes the least seems like the smart way to go.

I want to buy a car. I don't need one. I just want one.
I got issues.

Re: Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous
Was this triggered by too many folks leaving your company. Most companies don’t do something until they’re tickled. If yours is pro active you’re lucky.Yes and no. We had two recent departures. The first was over an unspecified benefits issue, which I (probably) figured out but will never affect me directly at all. The second was because they got a better offer--I looked into their new company, and it appears they pay a decent amount more for that role at the very top end of the range, but most other companies don't.
Anyway, I'm glad someone higher up the food chain found it offensive that we lost someone over pay, and took appropriate action.

Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
@venture - you can still ask them to shop the rate around, and can probably cancel the policy you bought for a prorated refund. They will not proactively offer that as an option, since it's disfavored by the carriers they are appointed with to shop the policy at any time other than renewal, but if the customer requests it, that's usually a different story.Maybe I'll do that. The company I have now has been really good with claims. It's going to have to be a substantial savings.
