Hope the new car works out for you; I have to say, coming from a WRX, you will find most other cars slow which makes it difficult to "upgrade".

Do yourself a favor and drive/price a base GT wagon before you go whole hog on the 2.5i. If it reinforces your decision to get the 2.5i, then good! If not, then maybe you will keep from having regrets later on!

Do 12 ounce curls count? :o)

Just kidding. I stay active with the kids, do lots of work around the house, take them biking or on a walk daily. Stuff like that. Walk the dog. I'm pretty hyper-active; my wife is the laid back one.

Once my daughter is old enough I think I might coach her soccer team (if she even plays).

My right knee was hyper-extended once playing soccer. It healed but ever since then I strain it easily. I don't want to tear my ACL so generally I try not to push it too hard.

Any how, what does that have to do with driving? Well, I'm generally OK on a 40-60 minute commute each way, and around town, but the road trips can make it a bit sore. And we do a *lot* of road trips.

I'll be 36 in October, aren't you a little bit younger? I thought you were 31 or so.

the old injury..that explains it. 31!?!? wow thanks!

     I'm 34 now, 35 in March
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well it's been a while, maybe you were 31 last time I saw you. ;-)

I should exercise the knee more. Not using it due to fear of injury will probably make it worse!

I bet Q keeps you active, on your toes. I recall when we went hiking on King & Queen Seat, she was the first one to make it up that waterfall climb! The guys were all huffing and puffing to catch up.

My wife is a bit of a couch potato. That slows me down. Lame excuse, but still.

  • Keep exercising that knee, Juice. I've been through three knee surgeries for partial ligament tears and damaged cartilage, with the last one taking place last spring, and I'm 30 years old. Each surgery has accompanied lots of physical therapy before and immediately after surgery. Every doctor and therapist has emphasized continued life-long exercise to prolong the knee's useful life, but they have advised different activities.

Sports that twist and pound the knee are on the "no-no" list, things like soccer, tennis, and aggressive downhill skiing. Activities to take up include biking and swimming.

You can help prevent ACL tears through strong quad muscles.

Good, because I already do plenty of biking and I swim in the summer.

To be honest I tend to do whatever the kids are doing.

Maybe I shouldn't coach that soccer team? Hmm. I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.

Sorry for the delay. She went to HR, but they said it's all up to the manager, and he is doing nothing wrong. Projects have to get done.
I believe her firm has a number of cases ongoing. Last years layoffs they moved a family down to NC, then laid the guy off his forst day down there. Not too nice.
She has gone to HR to ask for a package, but again everything depends upon the manager. We'll find out this week- they are supposed to be laying off another 400 people. I told her to try & switch if someone else gets layed off.
In the mean time, I'm going to try and do the test drive tonight. I figure the $25 will come in handy- buy 6 round trips on the city bus for her:-).

Dave - how'd that interview go? With the dealer? Hoping for some good news.

So far, "No Picture No Sound".
    Not exactly holding my breathe.
Apparently there were loads of applicants.

Also dropped off a resume with SoA through their web... "No Picture No Sound" there either.

Actually, I haven't been getting any response or acknowledgement to the resumes that were sent out.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Keep trying, it can take a while to get a response.

I remember when I finished grad school I must have sent 100 resumes, and got 7 calls. Those widdled down to 2 job offers.

Let me know if you need a personal reference.

This is funny - my best man applied for a job in sales, cardboard, something like that. His (future) employer called me and sure enough, he got an offer that same day.

    I must've said something right!

Probably won't see you guys in chat for a week or so anyway .. life is busy here ...

first of all in my 20th year of teaching I am finishing up a license in severe disabilities. This is the 5th year that I have worked in this job (teaching students with mild/moderate/severe disabilities) and I have to do a 'practicum' (student teaching in my own classroom). The state will allow the university to waive this requirement with 3 successful years of work, but IU won't waive the requirement. (Guess they like getting the $640 it cost me for the class.)

I am also beginning tutoring at the Learning Center for Children. This is a charity of the Masons. Across the country they are building centers for dyslexic children and those with reading disabilities to learn to read. They train the tutors, pay for all the materials, pay the tutors a small stipend, and do not charge the parents a penny. Soooo that takes up 2 nights a week.

I also teach in the districts 'reading clinic' 2 afternoons a week. That pays a little better, but they also charge the parents .. lol

Besides that I have 2 private tutoring students that I am continuing with since last year.

Add in that I have 5 program assistants (paraprofessionals) at school for whom I am the direct supervisor, and making sure all the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed for our special education students ... and life is a bit ... hectic.

B/f told me last week to figure out when I can go in a little late one morning so we can go get a marriage license .... let's see ... maybe ... um .... june?

    hah!

see ya when I see ya !

    Anyone see this commercial?

I caught it the other day while flipping through channels. The commercial features both the Forester and OB models. I liked it better than some of the other recent ads Subaru has been running.

    But you knew that.

I'm on my lunch here at Bosse High School. I'm counting down two more days till my new Legacy Ltd. Friday night will be pickup in St. Louis. Nothing like a road trip as my first drive in the new car.

Guess I'll have to think up a new handle.

Do good by those kids- they are the future (scary sometimes!) Good luck on your practicum, I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck on getting married too! June seems awful far away . . .
    Come back soon!

Since I'll be able to keep up during the chat, I guess I'll catch up with everyone else.

    <ducks for cover>

Just teasing, re-join when you can. Sounds like you're contributing plenty to your community, and we're proud of you.

For a while there I thought you were going to say you sprained your wrist carrying the weight of that huge ROCK on the ring he gave you. ;-)

Bruce: you gotta name the car first. Once you figure that out, the new handle should come naturally.

We've had some changes going on in HR. One of those good news/bad news things. One of my most favorite people to work for in CDS was our Director, Dan Dalton. Well, Dan has accepted the offer of heading up our HR dept. I'll really miss working with him but it's great news for the company. Anyway, between Dan's new role and some other folks positions in HR that have not been filled yet, they may be backed up. Keep the faith. Do you want me to call Metric with a personal recommendation? I think I can say I know you and your enthusiasm well and I know the Svc. Mgr. there very well.......

Small world. I talked with Dan Dalton backed in 9/95 when I requested my VIP paperwork; he seemed like a nice guy. Also talked with Jeannie S? in the VIP department quite often (probably 12 times or more) regarding my '96 OBW delayed order; very nice lady.

    Patti-
    Thanks for the offer :)
I'm so soooo tempted to say yes; however, I'll probably end up not feeling comfortable.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Why? She's the perfect personal reference. You've met in person, right?

I'm sure Patti will be honest about it. Who else, besides the people you know, are gonna vouch for you?

I say go for it, no guilt necessary.

    Just my opinion.

Dave - if you really want to get creative, list the "Subaru Crew" as a reference.

In other words, list our group as a reference, talk about your long term membership, friendship, participation, enthusiasm.

Hey, this grass roots stuff should matter to the dealer. You deserve the job more for this exact reason.

It's been almost a week now Pat. Edmunds IT must have the week off. If the e-commerce site for my workplace had an authentication issue, we'd be working on it 24x7 until it was fixed.

I finally got my $25 test drive in today (last day of the offer). The salesperson would have let me drive any Subaru, but I decided to try a Legacy sedan (I just can't _do_ a wagon, even though you can certainly argue that my Forester is pretty much a wagon). They didn't have any turbo sedans on the lot! So I just took a 2.5i sedan for a quick drive; I can always go back again. It was fine, seemed quiter than my 2001 Forester, but I would definitely get a higher trim line (got to have those heated seats).

I was tempted to take out a Forester XT while I was there, but managed to resist. Mine has less than 23,000 miles, so there is no reason to get something else now. (I'll keep repeating that to myself until the new car smell is out of my head.)

I don't know if I would be able to adjust to a sedan, actually. I have owned some kind of hatchback since 1981, and a trunk, especially one that doesn't even expand by folding down the rear seat back, seems so much less practical. Not that I need to haul a lot of big stuff - our other vehicle is an F150. I suppose I could adjust to a sedan, but I'm more likely to get another Forester than a Legacy. Some day. Not now.

e-commerce site worked on 24x7 eh? well that's just it Brian, we're not direct revenue by any means. we're providing some sort of nebulous value to Edmunds, and maybe once in a while someone clicks an ad link not by mistake.

how much money are they going to throw at a situation like that? I'm sure they don't consider it an outage either, it's an annoyance.

btw here's how you deal with the annoyance: leave your browser window open. if you need another browser window, open one, but keep edmunds page loaded and after reading all your subscriptions just minimize it. later when you come back, hit read subscriptions and viola! it works. surely your session with the webcluster has timed out by then, so you're actually re-authenticating... but it works and coming in from a new browser session does not.

I'd have this fixed in no time with a file watching utility and a sniffer... problem is easily duplicated and the method I describe above works great so comparing what's happening differently between the two should be a breeze.

    ~Colin
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
It's easy to leave a browser open, sure.

I do realize that Edmunds isn't an e-commerce site (unless you count the InfoPaks you can buy ;-). But, regardless of the type of site, all sites are there to generate traffic. Whether it's to get sales or forum posts. And this site is open 24x7 as well. Tell me that this authentication issue is not affecting forum posts.

I guess my thing with this is there's been a lot of futzing with the site for quite a while now. Just when you think it's all fixed, they change something. BTW, Sylvia says this latest snafu was a top level security change, not just affecting the TH. Took 'em 4 or 5 days just to put up a red disclaimer about the issue.

Faye: it's a slippery Fence, so I'll make room, just hang on tight!

Let's not complain too much, a few sites now charge membership, and Edmunds is still free! Plus it makes it harder for trolls, only the determined folks come in. I'm fine with it.

FWIW, frustrated is a mild term for what we hosts are feeling about this problem. And I can't think of anything else I can say that won't get me in trouble.

I just read this in my doctor's office. September 27 issue, 'Miracle Babies' (re IVF) on the cover. This time it doesn't mention Patti but is very favorable toward Subaru, pointing out that although the company only controls 1% of the US car market, it has a cachet bigger companies would kill for.

The article introduced me to the adjective "Subaresque."
