I just filled my new Legacy up with regular gas that cost me more than the last tank of premium gas in my WRX in late September.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
actually, I really couldn't care less after just getting out of our HR benefits presentation. our medical costs are going up by 50%. I'd have to own 6 vehicles and put 25k miles on each to have the same impact on my pocketbook as gas going from $1.50 a gallon to $2.000

Let's just call him Mr. Brenda. ;-)

    Congrats.

Colin is right, but insurance premiums are nearly invisible, usually just a line item in your paycheck, and people tend to look only at the bottom line.

OK, that gives me the kick in the you know what to get them my photo. I'm off...
  • ladywclassladywclass Member Posts: 1,713
Of course we've been talking about it for some time now ... we just couldn't seem to make it work for all the family with everyone so spread out .. and we didn't really want anything 'big' anyway ...

so .... we'd talked about just getting married when we got the license, asked about it in the clerk's office .. they said .. come back in 1/2 hour when the judges are back from lunch ... (and who has time to take off another 1/2 day???!!!)

and while I like juice's suggestion of calling him Mr. Brenda ... his name is Jack

thanks for the good wishes, guys ...

Well, I just got back from the library after doing my civic duty and voting...Florida is one of those states that now have early voting. I guess since the debacle of 2000, they must have figured that with early voting, if we don't get it right the first time, we can always vote again on Nov. 2 :-)

Remember, vote early and vote often!
    Serge
P.S. I have a feeling that this too will end up in court. Lawsuits to go around...according to the Florida Constitution, the ability to do a manual recount is required..with these touch screen machines here, that ability does not exist...if anybody sees my vote floating around, please mail it back to me...

    Hey gang,

I've been off the board for some time now but I'm dropping back in!

So I just got the invite to this event and was curious as to whether there is any buzz about it on the board. It took me all of one minute to finish my registration! I'm just thrilled to go golfing up in Half Moon Bay with fellow Subaru owners!

So does anybody have any specific insight to this event?

Yeah apparently they are gonna sue even if it's not a close election, that really saddens me, why would you sue just for the fact of sueing? Oh well.

    -mike
  • lilbluewgn02lilbluewgn02 Member Posts: 1,089
This election will be VERY close, Mike. The anger from 2000 has not receded and polls are being watched very closely. The number of new registrations here have been enormous.

The lawsuits currently in court have mostly to do with lack of recount ability; see this article from today's NY Times
    http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/19/nyregion/19voting.html?oref=log- in

But these will be nothing compared to what will follow; there already are complaints about Glenda Hood, Katherine Harris's successor here. She already has tried to fiddle around with the vpter rolls; one way by adding thousands of blacks (who generally vote Democratic here) to the no-vote list while adding only 80 Hispanics (who generally vote Republican). Needless to say, that list was scrapped after very quickly. She has also tried to invalidate many new registrations.

and a great way to go about it. This way, it was all about the two of you and not about trying to make it work out for other folks. I'm thrilled for you and please welcome Jack to our family.

Subaru runs some events like this throughout the year. Anyone else from here going?

    Patti
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
I meant they are gonna sue even in non-close districts, not just in FL, etc. I think that's just a cry-baby attitude to say "well even if we are totally defeated by a large margin, then we'll sue anyway" Kinda thumbs their nose to the whole democratic process.... :(

Should just dump the Electoral College while the suits are going.

    G'day

Maybe we should export our version. Australia has Universal Sufferage and actually requires all enrolled voters (ie if you are over 18 and an Australian Citizen) to vote. Heavy fines if you don't without good reason and about 95% of the population gets a valid vote in at each election. Australians tend to be fairly civic minded without the need for heavy handed civics teaching.

We had our federal election about 10 days ago with the conservative Liberal Party of Australia being returned with an increased majority. Given that everyone, including the politicians had expected a cliff-hanger, the Prime Minister is still looking like a Cheshire Cat. The opposition is still in blood letting mode as its leaders seek to avoid their necs being chopped.

Abosolutely nothing to do with Subarus but for the fact that after the rosey predictions of furture economic prosperity before the poll, life has instantly shifted to "Shock! Horror!, Disaater. inflation will rise on oil shock. Why am I cynical? Petrol prices are on the rise.

    Cheers

    Yes, virtual gifts. ;-)

I'll drop off my famous crab dip early...not sure if I'll make it for the full chat.

Who will make sure our guests of honor will be there?

wow, so many news on the board...

    Loosh, congratulations with the baby!

Brenda, wow! Does he type as quickly as you do? :-)

Mike and Hutch made their appearances... good to see oldtimers coming back!

Nothing particularly new in my neck of woods. Budget-wise we're not ready yet to buy new Forester, so I'm grateful that my old one is still running great... 109.5K now. Hubby is enjoying his WRX (33K).

I got a speeding ticket (first one in 15 years) and had to sit through the Traffic School one Saturday. What a torture!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The latest issue of Drive had a club for Subies with over 100k miles, you should join, Kate.

I'll give Brenda a virtual B9SC, the real one in mine. :o)

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Got a link for that Juice, I have 3 subies well over 100k.

  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Kate: Still with Silvius! Sorry to hear about the traffic ticket. Did you know that many counties in the Bay Area allow you to take traffic school on-line? It's a lot less time consuming and convenient compared to sit-down school.

BTW, I was in your office area a few weeks ago to attend a conference. We should get the Bay Area crew together sometime.

Two days ago I got pulled 300 feet from my house for speeding! Can you believe that?!?!

Fortunately I got only a warning.

Tomorrow is "Homecoming" in our town. My daughter is going to need me and - as I'm sure you all agree - that's gotta be my priority! So, no chat for me.

I hope you have a wonderful party! Will there be photo's so I can see how the festivities go?

You guys are too funny! I will be working at the reading clinic until 8 tomorrow night, but it's only a few minutes from home, so I'll try to remember to drag myself into chat ... Jack will be working ..

Would be funnier if it was a typing clinic! LOL!
  • dcm61dcm61 Member Posts: 1,567
She has to teach people to read her fast typing. ;-)

Maybe I should go to her clinic since I can't keep up at the chat.

    good point.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Typing clinic? Only if Brenda is the teacher!

Actually, Pat and I will send her that time-delay keyboard we've been wanting her to have all these years, maybe that way we can keep up!

Patti: sounds cool, let us know but don't fall into the dungeon doing it! ;-)

    nabisco's 7-seater thread.
  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
Brenda: Congratulations. I totally missed that post. I'm on a business trip now so I've been only checking in here and there so I just hit the "recent messages" link and missed all the news!

  • kenskens Member Posts: 5,869
The problem is Patti needs to wait for an official okay. The folks at Nabisco just post stuff.

Hey, how about an Edmund's Subaru Crew exclusive for once!
