    Terry,

I'm getting that spring time trade fever. What is mine worth??

2001 Infiniti I30, touring package, sunroof, heated seats, traction control, cd changer, silver with black guts, no love affairs at Wal-mart with shopping carts or frys under the seats from McDonalds, lives in Kentucky (about an hour north of Nashville) and has 45,000 miles

I need trade and retail numbers if you don't mind. I was offered 13.5k at a local dealer the other day. Is that LOW???

    Thanks
    Rick

........ $13,500 .....? ... thats a very fair price if the outside has been repainted in tri-color and the interior has been used as a test pattern for the Dutch Boys ....

Trade side, in and around the low to maybe the mid $15's range .. $13,500 ..? where did you go, Joe's Bait and Plumbing Co .?

Retail Rd ~ You know the deal, wonderful detail, amazing 5 liner ad, finish any services ... $17,900 *asking* and wave goodbye with a big tear at $16,9/$17,5 .....

    Thanks, Terry.

I'm trying to find a way to make this work, though rationally, trading one paid off Volvo with what are getting to be a steady stream of big repair bills for a car payment on another Volvo out of warranty probably wouldn't be the best thing, either. My budget's very limited, (though this particular car would fit in it) and while I love the long distance driving comfort and safety a Volvo provides, frankly, an S60 or V70 young enough to still have warranty left (or even better, be CPO'd) is well out of my price range. I may end up having to get one of corvette's "toasters."

    Dammit.

    Hi Terry,

Inquired a few weeks back about trading in a 1999 Mitsubishi montero. The dealer gave me $10K for the trade and I got an unbelievable deal on a 2004 Ford Expedition - Eddie Bauer. I paid $31K + TTL.

I am very happy and appreciate your advice on the trade.

    Terry,

The 13.5 came from a M-B dealer. They said "those don't sell very well now days".

I'm trying to decide between an 04 TL or an 04 Maxima SE. The best deal that I've found for each leaves the TL costing about $3k more than the Max. I just can't decide if it is worth it now or will hold its margin by that much down the road. Any words of wisdom?? :)

Terry, appears your staying busy.... sounds like you've been short on tee times lately (if I know you, you snuck out for a round or two)..l.o.l.

to my story... we've got that black lexus rx300, took a little weekend trip to 'Hotlanta', and while at the hotel, something, I say something, because I am still trying to figure it out, was "scraped/dragged" across the hood of the car, my guess would be luggage. We've got some scratches going from the front of the hood on the driver side across to about halfway up the passenger side..... and let me tell you, the black paint "shows" it well! I've tried the Scratch-X, polish, wax deal, took most of it out, but there are a few of them you can feel with your fingernails when you run it across the paint, so they are fairly deep. Here is my question... is this something where its better to fix or leave as is(not that we are going to sell it, just to put the thought in the pipeline when the time comes)? My guess, the hood would probably have to be repainted, no dents or anything like that. Would it hurt the value that much if only the hood is repainted b/c of scratches rather than the dreaded accident repaint (a repaint is a repaint)? Or are we better off just leaving as is? It would be done professionally, let's say by Lexus or whoever they refer us to...

As always, thanks for the help.

CPA...I'm no "Terry", but I think that the TL will keep its $4K advantage for a long time.

I love Maximas, too, but they're used as rentals which can affect their value.

If the experts think I'm wrong, sorry!

....... Sometimes it's hard to get a "firm" figure from a MB dealer or a small Honda store ...

It's not that they are bad guys or anything, most times they may not know what the value really is, they usually call other dealers or wholesalers to firm up their deals .. remember, most have a very small Used Car facility and their thinking gets a little skewed from the rest of the planet ......

Which is the "better" vehicle ...? Maxima or TL ...? 2 different vehicles trying to accomplish 2 different things .. the TL is more sporty and the "new" Maxima is more Luxo-sedanish ... personally, I think the TL will do "mucho better" come trade time in 2/3 years ....

........ Scratch-X .. oooh, worst product on the planet for black ......

Call around ~ A quality detailer can "probably" take a high-speed buffer to it and remove 90% of it, it may need to be clayed afterwards .. getting it painted is the "very Last" thing you want to consider -- the Very Last.! .. it "could" cost you as much as $3,000 at trade time, I know it's luggage, you know it's luggage, it's trying to convince the next buyer or dealer that it started as a scratch and you had it painted, etc, etc, etc ..............

                 --------------------------

I had a feeling the color and the handshaker would come back and haunt that TSX ...

Maybe you should email the guy and work a deal from there .....

How much for a 2003 Acura TL-S with 60k miles?

A local dealer is advertising this car without navigation for $21,000. How significant is the 60k miles on a 2003 Acura TL? Is $21,000 a good price for this car?

    Thanks for your thoughts
  • butchbr73butchbr73 Member Posts: 325
thanks Terry, that's what I figured, it wouldn't be pretty... I thought this would be one where its better to leave the scratches and bear it, just irritates me every time I walk by and look b/c you know where your eyes go! It definitely looks a lot better than it did. I did the clay routine first, then the polish/wax combo, did wonders and removed a lot of the surface scratches, but the deep ones are still there and you can feel some of them. I’ll give some detailers a call and run it by 'em, see what they think.

Curious, what’s your (or anyone else) suggestion for a “d-i-y” home remedy for those small scratches instead of a ‘scratch-x’ product when doing a quick detailing?

Thanks for the info Terry. He won't be mad if he left a little money on the side of Retail Road ..you said around $3 on a trade, and he will be happy that he got more than trade..he's pushing 80 and is very independent and proud that he sold the car himself. I'm going to visit them this week so will check out his 16K 2001 Grand Marquis. Thanks.

    ........ 60,000 Big Ones ...... Yiiiikes..!

Oh, it hardly effects it .l.o.l...

If I was going to have 60k on a one year old car, it probably would be a TL -- that being said, the only time this one stopped running was to put gas in it .... it's probably a $16/$17 vehicle on the trade side -IF it's like new (is that possible.?) $19 or less is a good price .... move on.

I thought you had some guy going to the auction for you ...?

It has sunroof and leather (XLS) platinum edition and is in very good condition. Installing new front struts and mounts this weekend. No problems and clean title. 133000 miles and I am the second owner. Was registered and owned by the same people for 131000 miles. Just got it, but thinking about trading it in on a new van by the end of the month. Any thoughts as to what trade in is worth? Car is very nice in and out. Located in Iowa zip 50021.

What about deals on 04 honda odyssey EX cloth. Anybody have any idea what's fair around invoice. Seems as if a lot of people are getting them around -200 to +500 invoice. thanks

Terry, thanks for the info on the Camry, no there were no Corum's in trunk. We moved on to a different dealer with less brain damage, and a different model. We are in desparate need of a newer vehicle to replace my 92 Maxima.

We just test drove a 2000 Acura TL with 36k miles. No nagigational system. Dark green exterior with tan inside located in Charleston, SC. Brand new Toyo tires, small rip on side of front driver seat along with blue ink spray on same seat along with a couple of paint nicks. Other than that, real nice, look and feel, non-smoking.

The dealer is asking 19995, certified. What would be a realistic haggle price for it?

    TIA
    Bill

HI, I'd like to get your opinion on this car. I'm in Texas. It's a 2002 Volvo S60 T5, automatic, leather seats and the works. It was a service loaner at the Volvo dealer. ONly has around 10,800-11000 miles on it. Being sold for $26,900 + ttl. Is that a fair price? How much do you think I can negotiate down? If I buy it, should I have it inspected by an independent mechanic?

    Thanks
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
........ aaaall my EX's live in Texas - thats why I live in Tennessee .... ooop's, your in Chi-Town.

Okay now, it's an LS and we have miles in the 46k range, we got the 4x4, slider, no 3RD seat (ouch) bigger V8 so we have a little help there and we have a little tow action - and you say the tires are in good shape, as is the vehicle ...

Trade side, in and around the mid $18's, maybe the low low low low $19's if it's clean to the bone, service is 100% and it needs -0- .. that missing third seat is going to bite your head off ...

Let me know how it goes ....

                           Terry.

....... Nice little drivers .... is it certified.?

It has no miles and it's the T5 .. if it's a clean one, no K-Mart kisses, I would think $25,5/$25,9 "might" get it home, maybe ~ but it's kinda hard to shop a 11k vehicle around because their *hard to get and hard to find* .. and yes, if it makes you feel better take it to the Volvo dealer on the other side of town .....

Good Luck and let me know ...

....... Nice little drivers .... is it certified.?

---Hi RRoyce. It is not certified, however, it has been owned only by the dealer who has used it as a service loaner. They will however, do a thorough check on the car and show us what they have changed.

----The car is very clean and loaded. The only problem we noticed was a shimming when we came to a stop. We told them about it and that we would not buy the car as is. They will service the brakes and we will drive it tomorrow to see if it is better. IN the meantime, they dropped the price to around $24,200 +TTL, included the 15000 service maintenance. We compromised to have the windows tinted at dealer cost (120 bucks) but we came halfway with the dealer. WE will be paying 60 bucks for the window tint. If the car drives better tomorrow, we will close the deal.

Any advice on things to check out on the car prior to signing the deal?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
........ Thats one heck of a deal .. check the Volvo service records (it's on the Volvo service computer in the shop) run a carfax and "look" at the title, the brakes don't mean anything, it's been sitting too much .. seems awful cheap, maybe a small repaint(?) maybe a little love tap at Dilliards(?) ~ so look "real close" and if it checks out - Grab It.!

               $24,200 ..? ... thats a great price for a 11k 02 T5 .......... :)

Terry, I have a 2003 Lexus LS430 that I bought new 8 months ago. It now has 8000 miles. It is millennium silver with the ecru interior. It is the ultra lux with all options except chrome wheels. The car is in Orlando, FL. All services are up to date. The car is immaculate. Tires are good (only 8k miles). The only issue it has is that it had some very minor body damage done to the left rear quarter panel. The panel was fixed (not replaced) and sprayed by one of the better body shops in town. The paint matches perfectly. Carfax is clean. What is this baby worth as a trade-in and what is it worth private party? Thank you....
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,072
from what I have been seeing advertised, you can get an S60 without the more "exotic" options for close to 5K off MSRP. Usually see the base car and T model advertised, but if the discounts are similar on the T5, you might get new for just over 30K, so 24.2 on the used one seems fair.

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,680
Its well over 2 years old and not certified. The rest of that factory warranty is going to vanish quick.

and stickguy is absolutely right on the price. I can get a new one in Jersey, according to carsdirect, for about $32K (without navigation or xenons).

so $24 seems about fair to me.

not arguing with you, though, Terry. ;)

    Terry and others,

Another car to sell (and perhaps the last of the year).

    2001 Pontiac Bonneville SE Sedan
    3.8 Litre 3800 series 8 V-6
    Dark Bronzemist metallic exterior
    Taupe interior

    Dual Airbags
    Remote keyless entry
    Leather wrapped steering wheel
    Leather bucket seats
    Air conditioning with dual zone
AM/FM Stereo with cassette and CD
    Traction Contro;
    Rear Spoiler and fog lamps
    Rally gages and tachometer
    On Star

    Interior - very clean
Exterior - no dings or dents BUT .....

A deer ran into the passenger side of the car a few months back denting both doors and the front and rear fenders (and survived).

Took it to the best body shop in the area and they did a great job. I can't tell where the damage was but I don't look at a thousand cars a week.

    Two questions:

    1) If I sent it to the auctions, what can I expect to see for it??

    2) What would be the retail on this car?

I may bid on the car also. It is a sweet ride.

    58k miles

Thanks Rroyce, I ran a carfax report and there was no history on this car. The dealer did say that the car was never titled since they used it as a service loaner car at the Volvo dealer. Should I be suspicious?

If you are TOO suspicious someone else will snap that car up while you are pondering.
