Nah not even counting sales tax is it more then a dollar a mile. With sales tax and registration he paid about 57,500 for that LR3. It is now worth real money 21,000, and I actually told him it was worth more because Land Rover has some owner loyalty money this quarter, so he lost 36,500 dollars in three years and about 45,000 miles.

Now the other guys yeah that got screwed because they didn't put enough miles a year on the car so for them it was way over a dollar a mile. The LR3 was actually holding its value fairly well until about a year and a half ago. They are just not in demand as much anymore and the Range Rover Sport took their place as the best seller in the lineup.

Trading 07 Camry LE automatic in Kansas City area.
    4 cylinder, automatic with cloth
    39,200 miles Red
    Sunroof and JBL
No dings or scratches Front fender repaired and repainted after deer.

Has Snow tires with about 2500 miles
    Dealer maintained according to schedule.

Trading for 08 Toyota Sequoia SR 5 with MSRP of 43,705.

Dealer has offered me 15,300 in trade and will take 38,500 for the Sequoia
Looks like 650 or so less than invoice. This is an OTD price and I still get any special financing.
How does this sound? Any suggestions on how to do better?

Private sale number needed (I am looking to buy)

1998 Contour SE. White, auto tranny, 4 cyl. 89,000 miles.

Looked very clean outside. Has the alloy wheels.

Spoke to owner, who said it had been in the family, and just had new tires/brakes/AC refresh/tensioner and belts (might be something else too). Basically lots of the wear and maintenance done.

Never smoked in and no accidents/paintwork (that part I believe).

    Overall, looks nice and clean.

Assuming drives right, what is fair private #? asking price is $2,900, TMV is ~$2,500

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Trade in price is actually pretty good considering there is paintwork involved.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
low mile car, if it runs and drives ok, anywhere from $2500-3,000 is fine.

To volvomax or anyone having access to auction results. My wife has taken a liking to the 2008 Sable Premier or Taurus Limited. It seems here in New England anyway, a number of them are showing up on dealer lots with mileage anywhere from 5K to 25K. Asking prices are mostly between $18,000 and $21,000, so I'm curious as to what the auction prices are. Even at the asking prices, it seems to be a nice savings over new. Thanks in advance.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Auction prices are anywhere from $14-19,000 depending on miles and condition.
  • kperesskperess Member Posts: 29
To volvomax or any one else with access to auction prices. Can you give me an idea of prices on 2008 TT 2.0 well equipped with miles around 5K? Figure that it would be able to be certified.

Thanks, in advance, for any help on this.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Avg auction @ $30,000
  • kperesskperess Member Posts: 29
    Thanks.

I have a line on one that's been used as a loaner by the dealer -- original list was a little over 42K -- he offered it to me for 32K + my 2000 Passat (4 cyl turbo w/ automatic, CD disc changer and 104K miles)> I said no and countered with my car and 30 K.

    Thanks Volvomax.
I've seen pricing all across the board on these vehicles. Just so i'm straight on this, I'd like to pinpoint the following b/c they seem to be the two most common flavors around:

let's say i have a base 545i w/ basic options, No Nav, no sport pack, etc.. does have heated seats.... 35k'ish miles. I'm assuming those are running thru auctions @ $24-25k a pop.

Now, let's say i have a 545i w/ Navigation, w/ sport pack. 35k ish miles, basically loaded. I'm assuming those are running thru $27-28k a pop. Correct?

Bake in $2k for certification, transpo and reconditioning... the rest is what keeps the lights on. would that be about right?

Basically roughly a $3k difference on the sales side between the two. Am I in the right train station?

What is the avg difference between 04 and 05 w/ similar miles? grand or two?

    thanks in advance.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Basically correct. Although recon, warranty and transport is prob closer to $3 grand than $2 grand.

    Hi,

I'm considering trading in my 2000 Camry (LA area). It would probably rate "fair/poor" on KBB due to body work needed - crunched rear bumper, scrape down passenger side, driver door handle broken off, windshield crack, lots of dings/scratches. Does it make sense to get the work done before trading in or just go for what I can get?

Other details: 68k miles, auto, 4 cylinder, regular engine maintenance, good to excellent interior

    Thanks for your help.

What is a reasonable value to expect for trade-in?
    86k miles
In good shape but hit a curb once and had to get new suspension on a side and it was about 6k in repairs total.
    It's a manual transmission w/o nav.
    Grey w/Black Interior

I had the x-plan, so my price on the '05 HSE out the door was $46k on a $52k sticker. I also leased it, so I didn't lose anything, really. Buyout on the lease was $30k, and they offered me a sale at $27.5k, which I declined.

I had been hoping to get some value on a trade in to put a little money down on my next car, and to avoid having to go through inspection/turn in. No one is budging, and no one will even touch NADA or KBB trade in value. They will only offer "auction" or "wholesale" pricing.

I learned my lesson on buying new vs. leasing when I lost 61% of my value on a Lincoln LS before this. Just not worth it to buy any more for me.

    3.5L 6cyl FWD
    2900 (really)
    Silver
    all options except nav
Like new; no damage; traded in different new car.

What is this thing worth from a non-toyota, major car dealer?
  • lemmerlemmer Member Posts: 2,689
I know this is a good candidate to sell privately, but I was curious about the trade in. On eBay, the prices of similar cars vary wildly.

    Birmingham, AL
    1998 BMW 323ic
    Convertible
    2.5L I6, 5 speed manual
    RWD
    Mileage: 77,112
Black exterior, black roof, and tan interior
Sports package, leather, dual zone climate control. I think it has everything.
The paint is ver good, but has a few minor dings that are mainly visible because its a black car. Top is excellent. Interior is excellent.
Tires are 90%. ZR Continentals on flawless 16" Z3 wheels
    Brakes - good
Maintenance - good, new framework and motor for the convertible top
    Squeaky clean carfax, no paintwork
  • woodywwwoodyww Member Posts: 1,806
I think at that age, that unless you're getting a great deal on the work needed, best to sell "as is", altho a driver's side door handle would be nice. And a windshield, depending on how bad the crack is. But there's just so much to repair, relative to how much the car is worth anyway. Again, someone knowledgeable could probably do/get some of the work done cheap, but that's gonna be tough for the average person.

Selling privately might be best......it's still a Toyota, with low miles, whatever the cosmetic flaws; once people here give you an idea of value, try craig's list. P.S. taking it to 2 or 3 dealers to get their price & reaction would be instructive, if depressing.....
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Manual tranny AND high miles.
    It's prob a $10-12,000 car.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Hard to say.
Only a couple of 08 Camry's have gone over the block.
    Brought between $22-24,000
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
Trade is prob going to be in the $5-6,000 range.
You should be able to do far better selling it privately.

    Thanks for your estimate.

MSRP is $31k+. My research shows a NEW '08 SE with similar equipment selling for $26k to $27k, rebate included. I have offered $23.9. Not a bad discount for 2,000 miles. We will see.

Hi Volvomax, Could you help me out on a trade-in price? It's a 2007 Honda CRV EX-L 4wd. I am located in the Chicago area. It's Glacial Blue with gray leather. No navigation. 14,000 miles in excellent shape. Thanks for your help.

I knew it wasn't a good car to trade, but that is beyond painful.

I don't think you could find one private party or dealer in this condition for less than $10K. I already have an offer at $10.5K, but I can't find anything I like as well to replace it at that price.

I knew it wasn't a good car to trade, but that is beyond painful.

Old cars like that are never going to bring all the money on a trade.
Dealers just don't know what recon they need or how long it will take to sell.

It's a perfect car for a private party sale.

Thanks for the speedy reply Volvomax.

Is that suggested retail or trade-in?

It's all paid off, and I have no real reason to sell it, but just not excited about where gas prices are going. Also interested in the 09 Fit due in the fall.

That was a trade number. Carmax here in Columbus offered 21 even last week for my '05 R&N with the same mileage. Their retail on it would be 26-27 although I don't know who in the right mind would pay that.
