A local dealer has offered to try and get me a '06-'07 Ram Power Wagon Quad Cab w/ man trans from an auction/dealer trade since they are hard to find locally.

These are the offoraders with front and rear diff locks,4.56 gears, disconnecting sway bars and other goodies.

Im trying to get an idea for what these are getting at auction or trade in. The few Ive found on dealer lots are listed way above book values and Im sure way above what was given for trade in.

Im private selling an '08 FJ Crusier Trail Team 6spd. for $27,500 so Im hoping I can buy the Ram and bank a decent bit of leftover.

"Im private selling an '08 FJ Crusier Trail Team 6spd. for $27,500 [..]"

    I seriously doubt that.

You might want to check what the leftover ones go for new... I believe dealers are VERY flexible on the pricing of these.

It's a great vehicle for a very narrow purpose; not a lot of people are looking for a stick SUV.

    Good luck,

I know what new ones are going for but the helping point on mine is it's a Trail Team. One of 3200 total made (few with man trans, which to the right buyer is important) with all white paint with blacked out trim, unique TRD wheels, improved suspension along with other goodies. It is also lifted with other modifications. Im losing a little and the guy buying it (already have a buyer) is getting a nice truck with the right mods already on it.

Hate to get rid of it so soon but it doesnt fit my needs. I kinda jumped into the FJ because I thought they were neat and different but I need a bigger truck.

FIL wants to sell private party--- his banker said 6k a few months ago, he's guessing 5500 now. I thought "good luck, take 3500 and run like hell" but after looking at autotrader it doesn't seem out of line. Edmunds TMV suggests that I'm closer to correct. very reliable car with only routine maintenance. Your thoughts?

If the car is PERFECT, $2,000 kills in wholesale.
I think $3500 is closer to reality than $5500

Yet another consumer that didn't come here to see what cars are REALLY worth. :D

Good job you. $6k profit over wholesale would make you a star on any used car lot.

    Clear Car Fax
    Tires probably 60%
No mall rash on the paint

    ------------------
More details: currently leased through Toyota Finanical Services until 6/2010. My payments ~530 a month. Residual is about 18.5k. I recently moved to Indiana from Illinois so I'll have to pay a bunch of money to get it registered AND have to pay sales taxes on the payment, so I think its time for this car to go. Its also was my ex-wife's car.

I can't find any reliable information about how much this is worth in the real world. I've never found Edmunds TMV to be reliable. I searched both Car Trader and Carmax for cars similar to mine. Car Trader has one in the entire US for almost exactly what I owe. They have many, many 'Sport' models which are not my car and are much cheaper (18 - 19k). A dealer is going to tell me its a Sport and not give me anything for trade.

I'd use a Lease Trader if I thought it actually would work. I'm going to try selling it online first, once I can figure out what to price it at. Thanks for your help!

Hi, I am looking for a trade-in price on a 2008 Lexus GS350 AWD. I am in the Chicago area. The car is Matador Red Mica with Tan leather. 1,300 miles. Like new shape. It has Rain Sensing Wipers, Heated and Cooled Seats, Navigation, Parking Sensors, Backup Camera, Wood Steering Wheel, Memory Seats, Swivel bi-Xenon Headlamps, and all standard Lexus equipment. I believe it has every option available, except the Mark Levinson stereo. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Not much to go on.
Some factory cars w/ no miles went for $16,000
Your price is probably below that.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736
Don't trade the Legend. Sell it privately. It'll go in a heartbeat and probably for $2k more than the dealer will give you for it.

Wholesale is in the $6-7,000 range.
You should have some room to negotiate.
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
    Auction avg is between $7-8,000

The Acura is probably a $500 car to a dealer.
Maybe $1,000 if it was PERFECT.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,497
I have to agree with qbrozen....

This is a car you want to sell yourself... The dealer will give you virtually nothing for it... If you are willing to work at it, you'll see $3K-$4K for it... If you just want to turn it quick, you can get $2K the first day you drop it on Craigslist..

WOW!!...I would have never thought the wholesale prices for 2004 Nissan Quest SE was 7-8K. To think that the dealer had put a sticker for $12.9K, then reduced it to $10.9K.

He wont be happy when I offer him $7.5K (and max out @ 8.5K)...LOL!

This is excellent...I LOVE IT!! :shades:
  • volvomaxvolvomax Member Posts: 5,238
You may not be happy when he says "No Sale" ;)
  • steine13steine13 Member Posts: 2,825
    What volvomax said:

Say the dealer pays $7,500 at auction...
... then he pays the auction co. $300 or so...
... then he takes it home... pays gas & a driver or transport .. $200+ ...
... an oil change and a wash and a detail... $100.. or $500 if something "needs fixed" as we say in the midwest.. say $200.

Then he adds the "pack" to keep the lights on and pay some essentials; $400 or so.

    So he figures his cost to be $7,500 + 300 + 200 + 200 + 400 = $8,600.

Now he wants to make a profit. $2k would be very nice, and he won't take less than $1k unless the unit has been around 30 or 60 days.

IOW, if you can get the car for $9,500 give or take, you're doing very well indeed. $8k ain't gonna happen, guaranteed.

I would not take 04 Quest at any price. It is the first model year of a van that horrible reliability track record. I remember that even two years ago this van was rated something like -180% below average by Consumer Reports.
  • kiamskiams Member Posts: 20
While there's concerns about that, I *ONLY* want to spend 10K (max)...but this is the only van I have identified with power options, cool interior, and that VQ motor is considered bullet-proof.

Since you are so against it, what's your suggestion...keeping in mind the budget & mileage & power-options i.e. dual power side doors & liftgate
  • kiamskiams Member Posts: 20
I checked the carfax, it shows sale date from Vermont dealer on 08/13/2008...with mileage of 64,052.

I test drove it yesterday with the odometer showing 64,181...which tells me that it's not been driven much, and also this dealer has had it since August?...for such stale inventory, I will make him a deal he cannot refuse...8K cash...in $20's, straight from the bank i.e. still inside bank envelopes....LOL!
  • exb0exb0 Member Posts: 539
If I were in your shoes I would go for 02 or 03 Toyota Siena XLE. It is smaller and doesn’t have all the features that you are looking for, but in the long it would be more economical option than the Quest.

There is a good reason why Quest is cheaper than the completion.
  • robbiegrobbieg Member Posts: 350
Wouldn't the dealer have even more into it since he bought it August of last year? You are basically asking the dealer to take a loss on the car. Good luck.
  • kiamskiams Member Posts: 20
Here's another way to look at it...I am asking the dealer to cut his losses...

The car has new snow tires, which makes me believe even more strongly that he had hoped to sell it by Thanksgiving. Well, that did not pan out, so drop the price, cut the losses, free up the cash, get another quicker moving inventory.

If he decides to sit on it, well, like Bob Dylan said, "The Times They Are A-Changin'...", and the economy is getting worse and worse...therefore, a bird in hand is worth 2 in the bush...take $8.5K and run, run Forrest, RUN!

premium package with heated seats, memory seats, leather, bose, sunroof
19" wheels wtih tires at 5/32
    rear spoiler
in above average condition. very few scratches or rock chips. there is a 3" scratch on th rear bumper from when someone backed into it last week.
