ehhh... was it CPO? If so, then, yeah, that sounds pretty good. Figure if that one with 3k fewer miles 5 mos ago was $40k, we're probably talking...? $38k now? Maybe even less, but let's shoot for the moon. That would put me at about $41k-$42k if I was buying it. Add maybe $2500-$3k for CPO and you'd be right there.

No CPO. These are not very plentiful in Seattle, let alone with the options he wanted. New in a 2014 he was looking at 51+ at several local dealers.

Q., Please help. Have 2002 GMC Envoy, SLT, Loaded, 128K miles. Really is in excellent condition with new everything underneath (shocks, struts, etc., etc.). Any idea of total out value from Insurance Co. Got caught up in one of our Michigan floods a week ago. AAA wants to total it out. Thanks for your assistance.

Not much, I'm afraid. I'm assuming it is AWD. They should be paying you replacement value, right? Trade value is only $2k-$3k, depending. So figure for a nice one, you'd have to pay like $6k-$7k retail. That's the number I'd be looking for, at least.

Go on-line with some of the used car websites and see what the asking price is for cars similar to yours (2002 SLT with 128K miles). Search the whole country. This becomes your data set to present to the insurance company to justify the replacement value.

Hey Q, what should I expect from our 2009 Honda Odyssey EX-L in trade for a new Odyssey. Central Kentucky, black ext, light interior tan? 72000 miles. Interior as new. Never hit except a 1 inch vertical ding on door from another mirror. It is a shallow crease, probably harder to fix than a dent. Tires, brakes, rotors, battery 15K ago. Oil every 5K or less.
Ky allows sales tax credit for trade on new vehicles now, started last month, so trade is more likely than in past. Thanks

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736

roughly $12k. Maybe, maybe, the Honda dealer would step up on it. You could try to push $13k and see what happens.

On the Honda, forgot to mention, it has 8 year 120K mile Honda Care. 3 full years & 48K left. I believe it can be transferred to new owner on private sale but not on trade in. That might make it more attractive to private sale buyer.

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736

Right. Or you can trade and cancel the contract for a prorated refund, I believe.

Again with the Public Administrator hat on, I have another gem to sell. Although, honestly, this one is the best I've had in a long while. So, we have:

    2002 GMC Sierra base/SL
    2wd Ecab, short bed
    4.8 V8, auto
white over charcoal gray cloth interior
it has a banging aftermarket Sony stereo with CD and remote, and not much else. cold A/C, but crank windows and manual locks (my 10 year old doesn't know what that crank thing is in the door to open the window).
locking, folding hard tonneau cover on the bed
    Odometer shows 197,922 miles.
Aside from needing a good bath, it looks like its 4 years old with maybe 50,000 miles. Very clean interior, no rips, tears, stains, nothing, no weird smells.
It runs and drives very well, and doesn't show the miles.

Location is rural Brunswick, Georgia, between Savannah and Jacksonville, Florida. South Georgia, where "real" men drive trucks, so I'm thinking it's worth every bit of $2,000 as it sits, and probably more. What say the experts?

  • henrynhenryn Member Posts: 4,289

The price of used pickup trucks has gone completely bonkers. I have read that this is occurring because of the upswing in the construction business.

Whatever the reason, you could list that thing on Craigslist here in the Houston area for $3k and sell it in no time flat.

guys, need some help. 2012 Infiniti G37X with 19k miles. One owner who leased it for 2 years out of Delaware. Dealership took it to auction where a local Nissan dealer picked it up. Local dealer is selling it for 22,999. It seems to cheap to be true to me. Am I missing something here? I test drove it and it ran great. I feel like it is "to good to be true" ?

I am looking for any help in determining a good trade value for a 2011 Maxima SV sport package in truly excellent condition. My lease contract was for 45k miles, and the car has 32,500, I figure i have some equity but the first dealer offered $17k which is crazy in my opinion.

I don't trust the online value calculators, help please.

  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,736

I need more info on the G37x. How many doors? What trim level? Colors? Any accident history?

Maxima - $17k isn't totally out of whack. Look above you at the Infiniti that is a year newer with 13k fewer miles for just $23k. Anyway, if it is a Nissan dealer, I could see them stepping up another $1k if they keep it on their lot.

Well, when you or I are 92 years old and finally have to give up the car keys, maybe we'll make sense of how this happened! LOL! Geez, what could this be worth? $1500 bucks? I tried some comps, but the comps are often worse than this car! Do S Types just disintegrate on signal at 100K?

Genesi ... on the 2012, they run about $27k-28k at auction. I don't know what CPO costs are on that car, but, yes, it certainly does cost more. Probably about $31k non-CPO and $33k-$34k CPO should be in the right neighborhood. On the 2013, that seems like the one that sold at Riverside for $30k. Certainly seems to be the better buy for only $2k-$2500 more for a practically brand new one.

Shifty - I've come across many nice S-types. I like them, personally. Almost bought one quite a while back but wound up with a Lincoln LS instead. Same basic car but with a stiffer (and cheaper to repair) suspension. This thing sounds like junkyard fodder to me. Can't imagine anybody seeing value in it unless they just so happened to have an otherwise perfect S-type that needs an engine. Or they have an otherwise nice 3.0 they want to make a swap on. Anyhoo, the nasty ones are $900-$1k at auction.

Thanks for that. It's about what I thought, around $1K if you're lucky. I realize they can be nice cars but....for some reason...owners of S Types treat them more like rental cars than Jaguars. Well, in the case of the S Type, maybe they're right. I certainly didn't get any kind of quality-hit from this car while examining it. It could have been a Toyota Camry.

Here's what the nice parts of the car look like!

It's not like the old days when a man could scrounge parts or repair things in his shop. When the dashboard of a modern car looks like a Christmas tree all lit up, that's about all the warning sign you need.

I think his intention is to trade it in to the dealer. He wants to make sure the offer is fair to minimize negative equity (or maximize any positive equity)

Seriously, though, is this you shopping or trading in 3 vehicles?

    1) ~$24k-$25k

    2) A very rare bird. I'd put a very cautious $20k on it.
