...... Come on Kyfdx, your an intelligent guy .. it's not a domestic thing, it's a industry/marketing thing, do you think Bimmer/Kia is doing so well because they're the best thing to come over the Pike .l.o.l..

If you can find a payment to hit a certain broad market, then you got a winner .. nothing more, nothing less .....

I agree.. it is the marketing that leads to the low payment expectations...

Expecting Joe Blow to understand the difference on why he can get one $30K MSRP car for $300/mo, but another one is $450/mo... that is why you guys make the big bucks...

...... **$30K MSRP car for $300/mo, but another one is $450/mo... that is why you guys make the big bucks...**

Don't I wish, that's usually the customer from Hell ...

You have to back out the cost, back out the trade and show *why* he has $3,700 of negative equity (when the guy at the Credit Union said he's in the black) then add back the taxes and flea's, minus any rebates and hopefully he has more than $500 to put down (and I don't have to hold the check for 2wks) .... then comes the easy part: all I gotta do is convince the CFO from Grumman, NASA or Nokia that it's a good deal and he can afford the extra $150 a month - then hope I can get the dude bought at the bank with a good rate, with his 620 beacon and his two late mortgage payments ..

                other than that, it's a piece of cake ......... ;^}

Do you think Drifty did the right thing in post 10827?

If an ignorant buyer walked into your store, would you try to get him to pay way too much for a vehicle (with gold trim, no less) or would you sell him a reasonable car for a reasonable price?
  • rjbparjbpa Member Posts: 28
I wasn't sure which forum to post this in so I figured I would try it here first. I found a 2004 BMW demo with 200 miles on it. The car was punched in November to take advantage of dealer cash. They are telling me they made it a CPO to extend the warranty and want a premium because of that. The point is I won't put many miles on it since it will be an extra car in the household and the warranty is of no interest to me. The question for you dealers is - can this be undone?
  • dbauerdbauer Member Posts: 416
no it cant. the car is used now...period. if they have already paid BMW to certify it, then its over.

BTW...take the warranty...you can use it to command a premium when and if you resell it.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,972
Yeah.. this is a good point.. The BMW CPO warranty stays with the car for life.. Even if you trade it in to a Ford dealer, it will still have that warranty... so, it does have some real value on re-sale..

Buyers of used BMWs are antsy about possible repair bills.. this will be a real plus..

1.) Lets pull a Carsmack and see if wasn't sold once before ..

2.) If it's not been titled, then take a look at the MSO ..

3.) Grab the Vin# and look into the service computer for any history ..

4.) And yes, the CPO can be negotiated *out* of the deal if your about to be the first owner ...

5.) But - if your going to be keeping this puppy for any length of time or miles close to the end of the factory warranty, then I would be hooking up ..

                    Happy hunting.!

What did it cost to make this a CPO?
  • jipsterjipster Member Posts: 6,296
Man..$22,680 for a Dodge Neon. Thats the car that blows the "There are no poorly made cars anymore" theory. The thing probably lost 1/2 it's value the first year.

Very good points. I hate car shopping.

I have no trade-in and prefer no money down, or first month's lease pmt only. I don't want to put money down on a lease.

I figure a lease is the only way I'd get $300/mo on a mini-van. By the way, I know better than to hope for a $30K vehicle!! Someday I can get my Pilot, but not any time soon...

I'm test driving an MPV tonight, so will research the TMV on Edmunds. I appreciate that figure!

a ford freestyle SE will get close to the $300 range on a short term lease. check it out.

Of course! My bad... I'd forgotten it was a lease.

That reminds me. Let me tell you a story about getting extra keys when you buy a car.

It was a beautiful Fall day on the D.C. area. My little lady and I went car shopping and ... (to be continued).

when you lease a vehicle how many days do you have to return it if you change you mind and don't want it anymore.
  • wantamaxxwantamaxx Member Posts: 7
What is a "processing fee" I saw one dealer had right on the window that there is a 299.00 processing fee.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    This keeps coming up.

You own the car. You cannot return it and there isn't a "cooling off" period.
  • bobstbobst Member Posts: 1,776
Dbauer, if I tell the story again I think other members of Town Hall will hunt me down. Don't want that.

    >i>You own the car. You cannot return it and there isn't a "cooling off" period.

Not correct, it's a lease. But I agree, he/she cannot return it before the end of the lease term without paying for depreciation.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
O.K...they are "renting" the car since it's a lease.

Buyer's Remorse can be costly when a car is involved. Not like buying a toaster from Costco and deciding it's the wrong color.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.. ** But I agree, he/she cannot return it before the end of the lease term without paying for -- depreciation** ...

I think you mean the *payoff* .. that will be the remaining payments, plus the residual, minus any future accrued interest ....

i take it this story has been told before? if so, what post can i go to to find it?

I bought a 2005 Honda Accord in November. It had problems which the dealer could not fix. I had to pay $700 more but was able to get another Accord. The Accord that they were not able to fix had 5 CDs in the CD player which they said they would give back to me. It has now been almost 3 months and they said that they do not have my CDs. Is there any recourse that I have. I know this is a petty matter but it is just the frustration of all the things I have had to go through with this dealer. My other car they scratched in three places when they were servicing it. Obviously I will not return to this dealer but I think it is awful that they do not return my property.

Since the car is virtually new... Probably spent just the fee to BMWNA.. Figure around $1200.

I did mean the "payoff". Exactly what that consists of depends on the lessor.
  • driftracerdriftracer Member Posts: 2,448
That $22k was total payments over 60 months, plus a warranty, plus gap, plus credit life and disability (costs set by the state, probably about $1500 for both).

$22k on a $14K car, with a warranty and 2 kinds of insurance is a lot brighter picture than paying 18% on something and paying $35k on a $19k ca with nothing extra to protect you...
  • driftracerdriftracer Member Posts: 2,448
You don't. On a lease or a purchase.

Since so may of you seem to hang on every message I post, you might want to look at this article about me that appeared in the Fort Myers News-Press today.

I had a similar experience with my Accord about a year ago. CD changer had to be replaced and I was told that 5 CDs it had in it, would be sent back to me ... after about 6 months I called to the Honda department that handles warranty issues (don't remember which one) to complain ... 2 weeks later got the check from my dealership for $75.
  • lemmerlemmer Member Posts: 2,689
I have heard a couple time they asked Bowke to move on. What did he do? I think he referred to me as a liar one time, but I wasn't offended.

It seems like you would have to do something pretty severe to be kicked off.
  • bobstbobst Member Posts: 1,776
    Thanks, everyone.

No, cartalk, a prize like a car was a little out of my league.

I do recall wining a set of golf clubs, a case of Pepsi, and a bird feeder. Don't laugh. It was a great bird feeder.

So you are in Tucson? Read "Cities of Gold" by Douglas Preston.

I think they should open a board for all those who have been "kicked off". If they are able to go more than 4 weeks without having a post pulled...then they are reinstated.Maybe, keep them on double secret probation for awhile.

Bowke is probably still in here somewhere...just under a different username.

I doubt it... I thought I had spotted him, at one time... but, I was mistaken.. A lot of similarities, but it wasn't him..

I think certain people would have a hard time hiding their true nature, under another identity.. I think he is one of those people.. I miss him, though.... lol
