Just in time for the wife for Christmas. 2006 LE with Pkg #2/Shiel/Extra A/Etch. Invoice was $24,800-$1,000 rebate=$23,800. Dealer offered $23,987. Less than $200 over invoice. She got the color she wanted so not too unhappy to pay $200. over.
I know the dealer gets holdback & incentives. That's more than enough profit for them. I couldn't get any lower than invoice from several dealers. I guess because 07's are not in yet.
Here are some of the fees you can expect a salesman to charge you. Note those applying in Texas. For advertising fees, ask to see the invoice and see if it contains these fees. : Vehicle registration fees: This is the amount charged by the state to register the new car, assign a title (legal proof of ownership) and cover the cost of license plates. The dealer provides this service for you — saving you a trip to the DMV or registry — but the money goes to the state. Still, it's good to know ahead of time roughly what this will set you back.
Sales tax. Doc fees: In states where doc fees are not regulated by the government a dealership will often sell a car at a very attractive price but then hit the buyer with a $399 doc fee when the contract is drawn up. If you refer to our chart, and see that doc fees are not capped in your state, you should find out early on in the buying process what the dealership charges. If it is high — anything over $100 — you will need to negotiate more aggressively to offset this price.
Taxing the trade-in: Tax on the full amount of your new car purchase and the trade-in has no bearing on the sales tax you are charged.
Taxing rebates: If there is a "Y" in this column it means that sales tax is calculated before any customer cash rebates are subtracted. Dealer fees: Dealers can write other fees into the contract and give them official sounding names: "S&H" or "Dealer Prep" or even "Shipping." These fees are another attempt to take profit on the back end of the deal, when the buyer's guard is down. There is no way we could list all these bogus fees in this chart. Furthermore, if all dealerships in the area charge the same fees, you might be stuck with paying them. Again, find out early what fees you will be charged and negotiate accordingly.
Advertising fees: Sometimes buyers look up invoice prices on Edmunds and find they don't match the invoice price given by a dealer. Is the dealer trying to put one over on the buyer? Not necessarily. This is probably because an advertising fee is involved. If an advertising fee is listed on the car's invoice we consider it a legitimate fee that should be paid. However, if the advertising fee is written into the buying contract by the dealer it is another example of a dealer trying to pass along his expense to the buyer. Do you know the dealer holdback and other $ deals to the dealer on Sienna's? I'm trying to determine if my $217 over invoice is within a reasonable range for the dealer to be asking over their actual cost(invoice-incentives/holdback +5% profit)
Most posts/articles tell me that it should be around $1000 max to them from all sources. Is this correct?
Here's my deal and see if it adds up. MSRP base is $22,750 2% of that is -$455 Net cost without additional incentives to dealer is $22,295 Add $1315 in options(invoice price) Add $645 delivery Add $55 extra freight for Gulf States Total +$24,310 cost to dealer Dealer offer was $23,978 after $1,000 rebate. Actual dealer profit=$24,978-$24,310=$668.
Did I miss anything here? Looks to me to be 2.75% profit and 2 % holdback or $1113.
Holdback is usually 2-3% of the MSRP. Here is an example below of an LE Sienna at 2% holdback for foreign cars. One to two percent over invoice is the total deal local dealerships are offering VIP customers in our area. I would think 10-11% of MSRP is a pretty good deal so yours looks very good. This cost doesnot include holdback ,taxes, title and registration. Be careful of what their definition is for invoice, which one they show you and what fees it includes. With the amount of homework he's done in identifying most of the costs and fees plus info available on line he'll have the essentials to negotiate. For invoice validity you have to trust the dealership or go elsewhere. He can't afford to stay in business and be unethical. The sales guy will be looking for a new job if he crosses that line. I believe you need to prepare and know as much about the true costs as possible but know you'll never have all the answers unless you are a negotiator by trade and have lots of experience. Certain states require the exposure of specific fees to the seller. These are available at Edmunds.com. I wasn't sure what the reference was for "invoice of options" as the MSRP and invoice costs are available on line. I understood this to mean he saw the edmunds number not the dealer's invoice. Edmunds is a fair number and the difference between invoice and MSRP is usually a constant percentage. Ten or eleven percent of MSRP was a good range to start negotiating at this time.
Six weeks ago I paid 23,700 0% for 60 Months for an '06 CE w/Pkg 1, rear spoiler, self-dimming rear view mirror, floor mats & door sill protecters. They gave me Kelley Blue Book "GOOD" condition price for my '05 Tacoma, 48,000 mi, without even looking at it. I didn't ask for a second quote, or try to get a hundred or two off. So, yes, $21,950 is pretty good for brand new Toyota with a 6 cylinder. It might be a good idea to wait until next Thanksgiving or so, and buy an '07 if they have any year-end deals. The new 3.5 engine, with the same mpg as the current motor, may be worth waiting for. Why didn't I wait? I did not know!!! I didn't plan to buy one of these. I rented an LE w/pkg 1 for a day, then researched prices, because I liked it so much. Didn't get in on any buzz going on about this vehicle. It's gonna work just fine, don't get me wrong. I'm a lightweight version of a car-guy; any car-guy will tell you to never pass up a significant power increase if your mpg (and I assume, emissions) remain the same.
Hello. I'm shopping for a 2006 XLE AWD. I was quoted a price of 32550 for an XLE AWD with XLE Packages 9 and CF. This also includes a $500. advertising fee that I think should be negotiable. Is this a good price? Thanks.
Check with msg 6878. Somehow he got an XLE for 15.5% of MSRP. That is remarkable. I can support the fact that the XLE is a superb vehicle and you have made a good choice. Not knowing the MSRP and other charges on the sales sheet here is some info that may help. There is 1 XLE at CARMAX in Laurel, MD and the price is $31,838 with an MSRP of $35,479. That is a 10% reduction The rebates on XLE are supposedly $2400 until 1/03/07. I would guess your cheater sheet is as follows: XLE MSRP Invoice 7 pass. 32,930 29307 dest. 645 645 #9 pkg 2,070 1656 CF 196 119 Total 35841 31727 What is a good price? 10% of MSRP is $31,676 is a goal. The 15% goal with rebate included would be $30,286. The invoice price of $31,727 is a fair deal. CARMAX is non-negotiable and it is $31,838. At $32,550 and $500 as Advertising you are in a good position to obtain a good deal for both you and the dealership. Not sure if the rebate is in your quoted price and if not your price of course would be lower. He has a holdback of at least 2% of MSRP in his pocket and the rebate from Toyota if you don't claim it.
Sienna came in today and I'm going to the dealer tomorrow. I asked him for the numbers over the net and he gave me the total, so I asked for a breakdown. He came back with no doc fees, dealer prep or any other crap fees.
However, I do have one question. Does anyone know if a VIT or Vehicle Inventory Tax of $66.44 is a legit charge. Other posts don't seem to question it.
All in all, at 85% of MSRP with rebate, I feel I got a fairly good deal. The wife will be happy with her Christmas present.
Dealer has not added any other bogus fees and has been very pleasant to deal with, no pressure no BS. Should I balk over $66 based on my overall deal of 85% of MSRP with rebate?
With a discount of 15% off the MSRP you had a visit from Santa early. We'll keep our fingers crossed for you until you are out the door with the Sienna and title at the agreed upon price. Happy Holidays
If you're ready to buy now, I can help you. I've been immersed in my deal so I'm up to speed on everything. Let me know and we can get in touch by phone or email.
All went well at the dealership. No gimmics or sales pressure. Price paid was exactly as quoted with no add ons.
Warranty and Lojack theft explained but I told him fairly quickly don't bother and he didn't.
Thanks to everyone on the board for all your guidance. An overall easy process.

Effective 1 Oct 2006 the taxes are as follows: Texas Taxes --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Texas Motor Vehicle Taxes Where do I transfer title to my vehicle and pay any taxes due? Transfer of titles and tax collection is done through the local County Tax Assessor-Collector's office.
What is the motor vehicle tax rate? The rate is 6 1/4 percent and is calculated on the purchase price of the vehicle. The taxable value of private-party purchases of used motor vehicles maybe based on the Standard Presumptive Value.
I am planing to buy a 2006 sienna LE this week in DFW area. I want to take the 0% APR instead of the $1000 rebate. my question is: can I get the monthly payment coupons book right after I sign the contract? An advice from carbuyingtips is this: don't drive the car out of the dealership without the coupons book. any comments? Thanks for your feedback.
All TEXAS TOYOTA buyers if you want to save money then buy outside of texas if you can. In texas you pay about 1500-2500 dollars more then what others paying nationwide.
There are two areas of the country that it cost more to purchase, Gulf States and SE regions. See below:
South East Toyota (SET) regional states: NC, SC, GA, AL and FL. & Gulf States: AR, LA, MS, OK & TX
In my great state of TX, the car goes through a middle man at the port in Houston. Here, the port installed options are added. Most vehicles have high markup options that line the pockets of the port operaters and the dealers if they can con you into paying more than cost.
My vehicle had the vehicle shield protection pkg. which had an invoice of $99 and an MSRP of $349. There was also the dreaded etching at $52 and $199MSRP. I also had a the extra mile A pkg. for $332 and $542MSRP.
So, I paid 99+52+332=$483 for the port installed options. This is a far cry from the 1500+ that's been suggested.
I found that almost every vehicle had some sort of port option installed. The dealer told me that's their way of making their profit. Could I have done without the options, YES! Could I find them without,NO!
I don't know how it works in the other states, but I guarantee you that the dealer will try to add these options if they can because they are nice profit add ons.
My .02, just shop around for vehicles with the least amount of add ons.
Hi All, I would like to request some information from all of you.
Can you guys please let me know what have you paid for 06 Sienna LE Base Model recently, "out the door". A break down would be great if you can do that.
How much dealers are willing to go below invoice price if any, since this is the end of year.
Has anyone bought the car at 0%APR (illinois). What kind of crdit score would I need to get that %rate.
Does any one know if in Jan the 06 Sienna prices will be lower and if any manufacture to customer deals are coming up.
what should I anticipate when going to the dealer (any advice in preparation would be great).
I have been getting internet prices from several dealers. I am not sure how much can I negotiate them down.
Purchased an 06 Sienna LE w/pkg 3 in Denbigh( Newport News, VA) for 25582. 0% financing. Flawless service from our salesperson--the internet sales manager--I called and she gave me the price in under 2 minutes on the van. Great van, our color is white. Don't know how many more they had in stock. I would highly recommend this dealership and the internet sales manager for your purchase. Good deal on the extended warranty also through the finance manager.

We just purchased a 06 Sienna LE w/pkg 4 in Greer SC. I paid $200 over invoice and then -$2,000 rebate. (invoice price verified by several sites) Maybe not the best deal, but I wanted package 4 and they only had two left and the other had a $2,000 DVD player that I did not want to pay for. The other LE they had just had package 2. The buying experience was very pleasant, except the dealer was packed. If I made any mistake it was not buying on the 24th, the dealer was empty then, but I waited until the 26th and they were packed. It did not effect the price, I had already agreed on the price on the 24th, but it took a long time to do the paper work.
This is the first car I have purchased in a long time I must say the buying experience was much better than when we bought our first Van in '98. In '98 I did all of the research on the Internet before going to the dealers which was good because I found most of the sales people back then pretty clueless. The time we have spent the last six weeks researching vans and found some very helpful and knowledgeable sales people.
I really liked the dealer we used. No kids selling cars, all of the sales people and business people were professional, helpful and not very pushy.
Best quote received was $24,725...after tax, registration doc fees, etc the total OTD price is $26991. (7% sales tax in NJ) Edmunds TMZ price prior to OTD is $24,079. What would be the most effective way of negotiating a better price?
The 25582 was the cost of the van only---about another $1000 in T,T, and whatever fees---they only charged $189 for their processing fee whereas everyone else here charges $399........after researching the van prices in the area, we could have maybe saved another $500 on the van but we were pleased and the 0% financing was making us very happy. Now, the warranty was sold to us by the finance manager at the dealership--"Denbigh Toyota" in Newport News, VA.....I see the forum rules don't allow names or phone numbers but that info gets you to who and where you need to be......the warranty we bought is a Cost Guard 6 yr/100,000 mi coverage that includes all of the Toyota's maximum warranty coverage and more...it additionally covers items that Toyota doesn't warranty and the deductible is $50----not charged if taken to this dealership for service and also not charged if one is traveling and needs service on the van. Covers rental cars for $36,000 mi. He originally offered this plan at $1350---we sat on it for a week---did research----my husband in the end said he wasn't spending more than $1000 for it and he offered it up at $950. he said his cost was $800 on it---who knows but the price was quite fair in the end--going on what we had read on boards like this. Best car prices always seem to be through the internet dept and I would advise everyone to go that route wherever they are shopping!
Anyone bought XLE model in Sol Cal area? I was comparing the Odyssey vs Sienna, the Honda interior is so "toy like" just drove me away, but they offer EX-L w/nav & RES OTD @ $33000, would I be able to get that kind of package & deal : with Sienna?confuse:
I was just quoted a price on a 06 LE Sienna 7 passenger of $23381 before tax, title, etc. This is a LE with option package #1,and the carpeted floor mats,in any choice of about 5 colors with the red being a bit more due to it having a rear spoiler. We have not seen these vans in person, and have not yet even test driven a toyota, but the price seems good to me.The offer is also with 0% financing,or $1000 rebate. How does this deal sound? Is the LE 7 passenger with option #1 a good value,or should we get the option #2?We are in the market for a van,and have test driven a bunch, but we are on a budget. We would either like around $20k with my own financing or around 22-23 with 0% financing. We are not super picky on options as long as it has ABS,air bags,A/C,cruise,tilt,and power windows/keyless entry.Any help would be appreciated.Alos of note, this quote was through a local MA dealer via the internet.Thanks.
I am getting 24103 + TTP for the same van and package. I have not bought yet it yet. What state are you in, I am in MD. The Sienna is much more comfortable and smoother compared to the Odyssey which is more sporty.
A little something to put into your buy considerations. CARMAX is selling 2006 Sienna LE at about $200 0ver invoice with a price 9.31% of MSRP. The 2007s are selling at $200 over invoice and 9.17% of MSRP but the MSRPs for 2007 are higher -$1000 or so with the bigger engine and small changes. With the discount or financing for 2006 if you can get a price of 9-10% of MSRP and the rebate or financing and donot care about the small change in engine power you have a pretty good deal. The Sienna is a great car and you'll enjoy the ride. Tanker
From what I have seen the options on 2007 have gone up quite a bit. The '06 Pkg 4 was about $2,800 and it is around $5,500 on the '07. Maybe I am missing something but the only difference I can see is that it adds a second power sliding door on the '07 but that does not seem to justify a $3K price jump.

In Sacramento (CA), paid $26999 for an 06 Sienna LE with Options (BX/#6, Z1-accessories, N1-auto-dimming-mirror). The price works out to approx $600 below Edmunds invoice figure (which is a few hundred below the dealer's stated invoice figure), and over $800 below Edmunds TMV. PLUS 0% financing over 60 months - I figure this is worth about $4K. Hope I got a good deal. Hope this helps update what prices are out there - at least in this area - now.

There is 1 XLE at CARMAX in Laurel, MD and the price is $31,838 with an MSRP of $35,479. That is a 10% reduction The rebates on XLE are supposedly $2400 until 1/03/07. What is a good price? 10% of MSRP is $31,676 is a goal. The 15% goal with rebate included would be $30,286. The invoice price of $31,727 is a fair deal. CARMAX is non-negotiable and it is $31,838. At $32,550 and $500 as Advertising you are in a good position to obtain a good deal for both you and the dealership. Not sure if the rebate is in your quoted price and if not your price of course would be lower. He has a holdback of at least 2% of MSRP in his pocket and the rebate from Toyota if you don't claim it.
I am looking to buy a new 2006 Sienna XLE with Package #6. Need your input on what would be a good price to pay for this.
The invoice & MSRP price (for San Francisco, Bay area) according to one of the dealers is as follows:
2006 XLE Pkg #6: Invoice = $30,932, MSRP = $33,300
2007 models are coming in Jan '07 in my area so the dealers are eager clear their 2006 stock.
If anyone with recent 2006 Sienna purchases around San Francisco area could post the price they paid that would be really helpful.
I am looking to buy in a few days time.
Thanks much.

The inventory tax is paid by the dealer... It is their cost, not yours... The state does not require you to pay it.
That stated... Every single dealer in Texas adds it to the deal.. Fortunately, it is a small amount, relative to the cost of the vehicle.

Texas Motor Vehicle Taxes
Where do I transfer title to my vehicle and pay any taxes due?
Transfer of titles and tax collection is done through the local County Tax Assessor-Collector's office.
What is the motor vehicle tax rate?
The rate is 6 1/4 percent and is calculated on the purchase price of the vehicle. The taxable value of private-party purchases of used motor vehicles maybe based on the Standard Presumptive Value.
I hope this will help to all texas buyers.
Good Luck!

I would like to request some information from all of you.
Thank you in advance for all you help.

My email address is tom568@gmail.com. Thank you very much!
Chris
I am getting 24103 + TTP for the same van and package. I have not bought yet it yet.
What state are you in, I am in MD.
The Sienna is much more comfortable and smoother compared to the Odyssey which is more sporty.
Plus on the '06 I received a $2K rebate.
I am also going to purchase one tonite...but no rebates.
