evandro posted a link here awhile back for a replacement air induction for the Intrigue. It seemed to be a K&N cone filter with a heat shield box around it. It looked good. I wonder if anybody has or would try this.
My Intrigue's battery went out on me again this weekend. It was leaking fluid and had to be replaced. The first battery I had was replaced in June 2000, after 12 months of service. So the second one only lasted about 17 months. I hope this one lasts longer, these are 7 year AC Delco batteries!
I was standing in the grocery store Sunday and notice the hood of my Intrigue had a huge gap in it. It looked almost like the car had been in an accident. I ran out with my groceries and popped the hood. Turns out a mechanic left a wrench on the side on the engine bay!!
What do you guys think I should do with it? Keep it or complain in the hopes for a free oil change next time??
The car was in for the same problem it had last winter, a hyper temperature gauge. Car has been trouble free aside from this one glitch. I thought they licked it, but it's back. Anyone have any ideas? They couldn't find a problem and of course it worked fine when out for a drive by the mechanic.
Heard on the radio this morning that Snoop Dog is working on a project with GM to come out with a luxury vehicle with a hip-hop theme. I'm trying to think what division this would happen thru. Chevy's out because it's not luxury. Olds--well, we all know where that's going. Pontiac--NOT! The only ones left are Cadillac and Buick. I would think that a car with a hip-hop theme would alienate potential buyers of Cadillac; something that it can't afford right now. Buick would seem to be the only one left that could fill that void.
Keep it. The same thing happened early this year with my wife's '97 Mercury Tracer LS. Two months after we had her car in for routine service, I popped up open the hood and voila! A nice flat screwdriver, which appeared to be of the expensive kind. I kept it and use it on ocassion. That teaches them to be more careful with their tools and also to inspect the engine bay area before given the car back to their customer. Just imagine if a loose tool falls in the wrong place at the wrong time causing an engine disaster..
This one is supposed to be official. I've been looking but haven't found proof yet. I would think they would take something that already exist like Ford does with Eddie Bower. I would think that they would take an Escalade and dress it up.
GM needs some excitement. Maybe this will be it. If nothing more, it will get GM in the press.
Had trouble accessing on Netscape 4.74 at home this weekend. If a GM car had "Gremlins" like this I'm sure Edmunds would be all it. But you know websites are much more complicated then automobiles.
I am sure they are going to have the Cadillac DTS "2 Live Crew Edition" complete with a gold chained steering wheel and all 2 Live Crew CD's including the hit "Me so H...."
It apparently is Cadillac. MuchMusic is reporting it as well and they say it is Caddy. Someone must have sent out a press release. What a huge mistake. I'm still not sure it isn't a hoax. Maybe it'll be an Escalade with... well, I can think of all sorts of things that a hip-hopper might want, but it would probably get my account zapped, so I'll keep my mouth shut...
I would not want to drive a car associated with Hip Hop culture and much less so with Rappers. Before anyone jumps to say that I am racist, well I am not. I love people from all cultures and backgrounds regardless of skin color, origin or religion. However, I just dislike the whole Rap/Hip Hop cultural movement.
Visited my local Chevy/Olds dealer yesterday, and found not one Intrigue on the lot. Lots of Aleros, so they are still ordering those, but it seems they have no desire to stock Intrigues. If this is typical of most dealers, I can't see them keeping the plant running until May.
How does one delete all the "cookies"? I had the same problem that you had with the script error. I could not get into Town Hall for several days and in fact today(26 November) was the first day that I got into Town Hall. Thanks in advance for your help.
There is a couple of ways you can do it. I have Windows ME so I go to "my computer", then to "c drive", then to "windows", then to "cookies". It should be easy from there. Just delete the ones you want or all of them.
If you have Windows '98 you can go to "Tools", then "internet options", you will see "delete cookies" about half way down. You can delete your history and cache if you want.
I bought a "Internet Cleanup" disc by Ontrack that lets me delete things without going through all the steps.
With IE, it's easier - navigate to the "Cookies" folder under your Windows folder and look through all the files - you want to delete any file that references Town Hall or Edmunds.
With Netscape, you want to navigate first to the Program Files folder, then to Netscape, then to Users - then you need to go to either the folder with your name on it, or if that doesn't exist, to the Defaults folder. In that folder you will find a file called "cookies.txt" - you need to edit that, and remove any and every line that references Edmunds or Town Hall.
A snoop dog ad for Cadillac on BET or MTV would probably due pretty well. Not sure whether alot of the MTV generation can afford Cadillacs just yet(or even drive for that matter) but the ads would probably go over well and the youngsters would have a new image of the brand. Personally, I think they should leave the rappers(or any musicians) out of the ads and let the beautiful music a Northstar plays at full throttle be heard. Thats one thing I like about the Infiniti Q45 ad, gotta love that sound of the engine revved up. Say, that would have been a good concept for an Intrigue ad.
Just for the heck of it, I pulled a front wheel to check my pads yesterday. The linings had at least 1/4" on them which is pretty close to new. My car has 30K miles but I bought it from a dealer at 23K. It had been a rental unit. Do you suppose they put on new pads? I can't believe there would be that little wear at 30K miles. For anyone who has replaced front linings, how many miles did they go?
I changed mine at 54,000 miles (99 GL 3.5) and they probably still had 1/3 of the pad still remaining. My stock pads probably would have gone 75,000 miles before hitting the wear sensor.
...since I got my '00 GL "typeR" (bought day after Thanksgiving 1999, ordered that October). Just under 20k miles, "raced" at RA this past summer (6m/lap, about 10 laps, hit 100+ on front straight-alot), still a blast-literally-to drive, still a great family hauler too, few problems-all of the trim variety luckily, thus far still exceeds expectations.
Am I still glad I bought it instead of an Altima or Passat (two oters I was setting on)? Absolutely. Even with newcomers to the market, and with Olds going away, I'd buy another one today, esp. with the great discounts/warrantee now.
Only 20K in 2 years? I've only had mine since July and have over 7K now. Admittedly I drive alot and with this car, I sometimes take the long road home. Seriously though, despite knowing that the Olds brand was going away and the fact that resale would probably be the pits, I really could not find much else in the Intrigue's price range that was as much fun to drive or offered the features and warranty for the price. I'll probably keep it a few years and will look seriously at a Cadillac CTS. I'm just itching to drive one of those.
Hi. So, I've noticed that, when in direct sunlight, my windshield ('99) is full of/covered in these tiny, little grains/spots/whatevers. It makes it harder to see through. When in the sun (but not looking right at it), or in the shade, or any other time, there's not a problem--clear as umm...glass. But, it seems like there's stuff reflecting the light. I can't tell if it's on the surface of the glass, or inside it. Even if the glass is cleaned, it's still there. I'm going to try one of those non-abrasive powder cleaners (Bon-ami or something like that), but my guess is it won't help. Like I said, it's only a problem when facing directly into the sun, actually is hard to see then.
Anybody else had this problem?? Is it a defect, lack of quality, or something else?
I don't get the chance to check the townhall as often as i'd like, so if you have any info/suggestions, you can email me at mpalmier@sar.usf.edu.
Check out Invisible Glass. You can pick it up at Pep Boys. It works exactly as claimed. After using it, the glass is so clear and clean that it looks like there's nothing there. I use newspaper to wipe it off.
The Regal is a pretty nice car, but it needs a stiffer suspension (especially on the GS) and a DOHC engine would be nice also. The Intrigue is a nice mix of sport, technology and good taste, something I don't really see of as much in any of the other GM sedans.
Another question for you Intrigue owners: how does your car handle in the snow?
My wife's Alero is fantastic in the snow, so I figure the Intrigue with PCS would be just as good if not better. This is a big issue for me as I live in snowy Michigan and my last two cars have been sporty and thus horrible in the snow. Be nice not to have to worry about winter driving. One of the cars I'm cross-shopping, the Maxima SE, does poorly in the snow on its performance tires.
Intrigue does pretty well in the snow. It could have better tires for the job, but they are not aggressive or sporty. With the traction control the car does fine.
The Intrigue is FANTASTIC in snow! Particularly with Michelin Pilot XGTs. Even with the "Badyears" it's good. And that is without PCS. Not to mention, traction control didn't come on a lot. I live in Philly so we get a decent amount of snow to make my claims believable.
Just thought I would chime in with a quick thought. Driving to work Monday, I was going around one of New Jersey's infamous traffic circles. It was raining very lightly (first measurable rain in many weeks). So the roads were somewhat slippery. I got about half way around the circle doing 25+ mph when the rear end started heading for the curb. Within half a second the PCS kicked in and straightened the car out without me touching the brakes. It was really impressive. I probably could have steered out of the slide but I didn't even have a chance. The slide was very subtle, in fact, the PCS reacted about the time I figured out the car was actually not doing what I wanted it to do. I'm a believer!
today from gmpartsdirect.com all TWELVE of them. Smile. I have a lifetime supply of oil filters now. Took it to a quick lube place and gave them the filter to do it. I like to put 5W30 in for winter. Resetting the oil monitor is easy too. After it's done, just turn on the ignition but do not start it. Press the accelerator three times and wait to see if the "change oil" light flashes. If it does, then you're done. If not, repeat. Pretty easy.
I'm glad to report that I've had no problems with dimming since the redesigned alternator was put in. We even had our first bit of cold weather and snow (dumped up to a foot over the Thanksgiving weekend). And it's been solid. Thank goodness. The swapout is complex because they have to drain the cooling system to do it. Get it done folks under warranty if you live anywhere remotely cold.
I think the Intrigue handles GREAT in the snow. I do not have either traction control or pcs (though I'm tempted to see if I can get a great deal on a 2002 with PCS). After watching the demo on the intriguecar.com website, I'm impressed. They had a couple 2001K aurora 3.5s in stock at the dealer the last time I went. I think the Aurora has the most handsome interior for a domestic make I've EVER SEEN. I wonder how much slower the Aurora 3.5 is than our Intrigues.
I placed a wreath over the license plate last year but this year have put it on the front fascia with some floral wire. It looks great with the Oldsmobile insignia in the middle of it. (I've taken the pictures of the relocated insignia but have yet to get them developed. Curious? How DO we post pictures here?)
redly - Unfortunately, $7000 might be all dealers will offer. Intrigue has got one of the worst depreciations at the moment. Plus, nobody is buying used cars at the dealers now because of the 0% financing incentives. Check out cars.com under the Advice section to get the Black Book on your car. They're saying $8300 for your car, and Edmunds says $8100. You might just want to sell it yourself.
Folks, there will soon be K&N air filters listed for the Intrigue. When I initially emailed them, Fred their tech rep replied in a generic fashion to keep checking the web site. I pressed him if they are really working on this filter and this was his reply, "We will be coming out with one. I just don't know when they will be available. Please check back in 30-60 days for a possible update. Also you can check our web site at www.knfilters.com it is updated every Monday with new products. Thanks for checking back, Fred"
No word from my dealer yet on the '02 Intrigue. Hopefully next week I'll get to take delivery.
With the 0% financing that's going on, there is now a glut of used cars on the market. All re-sales are down and the Intrigue is no exception (though it may be a little worse). Great if you are buying, bad if you are selling.
I'd like to believe that. But that's the same story they've been feeding me for the past two years. Meanwhile, the Aurora has a filter the day it hit dealer lots. I can't see them taking this long to come out with one for the Intrigue, and knowing this is the last production year for it, finally make the filter.
I e-mailed them and griped saying, "lot's of 3.5 Intriguers want a filter and there's money to be made and word of mouth is your best advertising, etc."
Hopefully, other's on this board have sent them e-mails too. I suspect they are developing one but the canned response I got made me wonder:
(paraphrasing) "There are many factors that go into making a filter for a specific vehicle: little horsepower gain, engine compartment size, safety, compatibility, marketibility, etc."
He then mentioned something about raceamerica.com or racingaccessories.com or racingusa.com (something close to one of these, I forget) and said they have kits that use their filters and that I should check them out.
Basically, no indication of if or when a 3.5 filter will be produced. I do think repeated e-mails will cause them to be a little more forthcoming.
If you really want one, get the #33-2086 as someone else on this board did it and said it works fine.

Once I find conclusive proof of this, I'll post.

Maybe they should have recruited Shaq. He has some crazy customized vehicles.
I saw the SEMA show on TV and they now have 26" wheels available for SUV's!!!!!

Something tells me a mainstream hip-hop Caddy might not be a hit because of the desire for individuality/my custom stuff is better than yours.

30K is where I had to bring my Intrigue in to resurface the rotors. It does seem excessive to me, too.

Ofcourse nothing beats 4 dedicated snow tires though.

What's a more realistic number and how can I push them to give me more? NADA says trade in is ~$10,200, loan is ~$9300
mirth : Winter driving is A-ok. Never had a problem and the ABS/ traction control all work very well. If you can get PCS, it will be a dream.
