Well, I'm back , after a long absence, I still have the Impala. We had our first problem the other day.My wife came out of the store , and the car wouldn't start!! I had no idea what was wrong , other than nothing worked and kept getting an error message from the radio..I had it towed to the dealer (UGH!!!!!!!!.......DEALERS!!)Before all this happened though , we had an intermittant turn signal problem , not bad enough to take it to the dealers though.Any way , the dealers were able to find the problem .......It was a loose connection to the ground wire, located under or near the the bottom of the battery. they repaired the connection , and all is well. Good hearing from you guys , and gals!....talk soon.

Hello everybody! I now have about 51,000 miles with a new ISS, Slight clicks in the cradle, New BF Goodrich tires (very nice), bad window switch (not yet ready to pay $70.00 for a new one), and no other problems. Last night Marvin Zindler Famous newscaster went up against Chevy for the motor knoking found on the new pickups. Some guy is complaining about the knocks and has taken the truck many times to the dealer and no fix. Marvin wrote Chevy a letter and chevy said that there is no fix! So the conclusion to this piece is that Chevy does not want to help a customer with his problem and acknoledged the noises but said they dont have a fix and that the clicking will have no effect on the life of the truck.........
  • cabellocabello Member Posts: 101
If more people have cradle problems they should contact Marvin Zindler in Houston for help. He is like the underdogs partner. If he cant help he sure will make chevy look bad on the news................I'm thinking about it...........

An article in the Oklahoma newspaper today about GM's plans for RWD cars in the future. Impala and Monte Carlo mentioned along with others. RWD just might become a reality, along with a V8, article mentions high performance models.

A large, high-speed rock hit my hood on the way to work this morning. Gouged right down to the sheet metal, about 1/2 inch long and 1/4 inch wide. Even put a dent into the hood. Looks like I won't be able to repair this one myself. DAMN!

I never did like the rolling stones.

Brad, sorry to hear about that. This is the reason I use a car bra in my car. It ain't pretty as far as looks, but sure it does protect the hood edges and the bumper.

Here is a link to the Perfectfit car bras which by the way are made in Canada:

    www.carbras.com

Take your car to a paintless dent/ding removal place or to a reputable body shop.

Hopefully they won't have to repaint your whole hood.

    Let us know.

    Thanks for the condolences.

I do have both a bra and the lexan hood guard for my baby (which I think both look great!). I switch between them depending upon weather conditions and where I'm driving. For the winter I've left the guard on since I know there will be lots of grit and stuff on the roads and I don't want that being ground into the paint under the bra.

Problem is, the rock hit about 6" above the guard. It must have taken a good bounce up before coming down on the hood. Oh well, I'm sure it will be repairable.

And before someone points it out to me - yes, I know it's just a car 8^)

  • Yeah. A car with a big gouge in the hood. Ouch! My condolences.

Get it repaired as soon as possible to prevent rust build up.

Lets have a moment of silence. There is nothing more crushing than when you receive your first de nt or scratch.

looks like edmunds is changing the board again.
    Lets hope it goes smoothly.
  • They'll be tightening the off-topic rules. Every post in this topic MUST have the word "Impala" in it.

Bought 00 Impala in Aug of 00 White LS first new car ever 27k on clock. Love the looks, love the ride and the drive, but boy oh boy when do the trips to the dealer stop? Cradle replaced, ISS replaced, something in steering column for air bag, speed sensor on LR wheel, seat belt ends (re-call), oil seal on pass. side drive shaft, driver door hinge, driver light lens, front driver caliper was rattling, rotors replaced, hub caps bubbling, has the 104 AMP. The silly thing is I still would probably buy another one in the future, am I insane?

Oh by the way the car goes to the dealer tomorrow about the interior lights that randomly work. As my wife was putting our child in the child seat this morning, the interior lights decided to come on after she completed strapping him in. Has any one dealt with this?

Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better now.

What's the build date of your 2000 LS?

Boy sounds like a lemonnnn!!! ;-)
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
    "hub caps bubbling"

Are you sure you have a LS with the alloy wheels??
  • impaladriverimpaladriver Member Posts: 9
    Never looked, will look tonight.
  • impaladriverimpaladriver Member Posts: 9
    Sorry, center caps.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Impaladriver, how can the center wheel hub covers, bubble?

Could it be the wrong chemicals applied to these covers when the car is washed?

    Just curious.
  • mediumfrymediumfry Member Posts: 239
Mine are bubbling too. Looks like there is a piece of sand that somehow got under the paint, but the paint is just stretched over it, not cracked. Looks like heck, really. Not sure what I'm going to do about it.

When the car has 100,000 miles on it, the caps will look terrible in my estimation. We'll see.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Are we taling about the wheel or the plastic center cover?. Sorry I am confused.
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Watch the front page for an announcement. It should be posted within the next few hours or so. That's how you'll find out whether or not every post here must contain the word Impala. :-)

Dang. Photopoint.com must be out of business. I lost most of my photos with them. Does anyone know another free service site so we can post photos on Edmunds?
  • brettcabrettca Member Posts: 34
Got mine today! Bought them from Brasington Parts in FL. I don't know if he has any more, but the web address is; gmotors.com Went on in ten minutes after the Modification. (wondering why they changed the inner fender well shape, and why the supplier didn't modify the mould?). Have any of you noticed that you don't have to "Hold" the key over when you are starting the Impala? If you get to the point of starting, You turn the key just for a second and let go, it will still run the cycle of starting the car. B..........
  • Doesn't your internet provider provide free space for your own personal website? You should check. You don't have to keep web pages there. You could just store pictures. Usually, you use an FTP program to upload them, but some providers have a website for that.
Check your ISP's home page for details. You may get lucky.

Had to slow down from 90mph on the hwy suddenly (traffic came to a stand still.) The car wanted to swerve into the right lane & I had to muscle it to the left then back to the right. Didn't lock up though but damn that was scary. I got plenty of meat on the pads & tires. Waiting for reply from BAER Racing about their rotors & applications. I haven't ever experienced this problem on any car I've owned & was really uneasy when I got in the drivers seat the next couple days. Then again I haul [non-permissible content removed] everyday & have generally felt the car as an extension of myself without problem. (Maybe it had something to do with the fact that I just washed Big Tex right before.)

Can I get some feedback from you guys? I have heard that since one of the complaints in years past was "Brake Squeek", GM hs been putting softer pads on the Impala. The down side to this was less miles between brake jobs. I was told to expect 18,000. My '01LS is now at 19,000. How many miles have you run before having to do a brake job?
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Depends on your driving braking habits. If you ride the brake pedal, well expect to replace pads every 5K miles at least.

I have 10K on my Imp, and the brakes are wearing incredibly well. No vibrations, no pulls, no noises. The car stops straight and true from any speed.

I ask again, does any one have problems with their interior lights like I do?

Above I said hub cap when I should have said center caps and yes it has numerous spots like there is something under the clear coat bubbling it up. The dealer said it looked like rocks may have broke the clear coat surface and now this is happening. The only problem with his theory is nowhere else on the rim, or the center bow tie emblem, or even the raised portion that looks like a big bolt head has a nick on them. The rocks seem to be only hitting the flat surface of the center cap, which I pointed out him. Will find out tonight if they are willing to do any thing for me about it. Will get back with results tomorrow.

    Car Build date 04-00

    No interior light problems here.

Have they checked your body control module and alternator?
  • impaladriverimpaladriver Member Posts: 9
It has happened aleast two dozen random times but of course can't get it to do it at dealership.
They will not look for any thing till I show it happening to them.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Another question...aside from the flickering interior lights, have you noticed any flickering taken place at the headlights? (Park close to a wall at night and see if the light intensity changes when you turn the steering wheel, etc)

Electrical problems are often hard to troubleshoot but your dealer's attitude of not wanting to investigate the problem further doesn't help things either. Perhaps time for you to try a different dealership.
  • impaladriverimpaladriver Member Posts: 9
The lights are not flickering, they are just plain not coming on. No matter how many doors are opened or even if you drive the car forward an back to the point of the locks automatically locking. The other day was real strange, when they came on after door was all ready open for about 30 seconds.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Body control module seems to be faulty. Try a different dealer and have them replace it.
  • hvan3hvan3 Member Posts: 630
Thanks. I'll look into my ISP.
  • That's how I was able to display that picture a few days ago.
  • night_owl1night_owl1 Member Posts: 760
Dura tinkered with a photo of the Impala sport rear and send it to me. Check it out on the Impala photo page and let him know what you think.
  • notdeadyetnotdeadyet Member Posts: 14
Thanks for checking that out . Looks like your computer is almost dead on. Mine gives better results on the highway than around town, but I'm not happy so I'm taking it to another dealer. I figure an error of +or- 10% would be OK not 25 %

Does the 2001 Impala LS sold in the U.S. have daytime running lights ?
If so, has anyone had this problem? With the DRL on, when you turn on the headlights manually, the the "Service Vehicle Soon" light comes on and stays on until you stop and restart the car?
This has happened to me three times and is very intermittent.
  • night_owl1night_owl1 Member Posts: 760
All the Impalas have DRL and I have turned on my headlights on manually and I have not gotten the service message. So the message remains on even when you turn off the headlights? Wonder if it it a bad ground in the headlight system. When the message comes on, do your headlights come on or stay off?

For those of you who don't know (or forgot, *poke*) the address to my site is:

    http://home.hawaii.rr.com/impala/

I am thinking of registering a name with internic. Impala.com and .net are taken. That would be too simple. I wanted to stay away from a date based name, like 2000Impala or 00Impala. Impala-How-To or NathansImpala came to mind but I was looking for something that people would recognize/remember easily. Something that you would intuitively type in if you were looking for an Impala project and information site. Any suggestions?

  • How about newimpala? I've checked, and almost every variation of it is available.
  • mediumfrymediumfry Member Posts: 239
I like newimpala too. It's what came to mind just before I read garypen's post.

My center caps (LS Wheel) are doing the same thing. The chromed center "nut" is pristine. The flat outer part, plastic made to look like brushed aluminum with clear coat...that's where the problem is. I'm interested to see if the dealers will fix these. It's obvious there's no nicks in them, just bubbles. I'll look into it next time I have the car in (for the front end stuff AGAIN), but it may be a while as I've garaged my pride and joy in favor of the beat-up truck for the salty winter.
  • mediumfrymediumfry Member Posts: 239
    Impala.

I don't see anything on the front page about changes to the forums. What are we talking about here?

My 2002 Impala with 1K miles just started idling rough in Park and then just died. It fired right back up and hasn't happened since. I want to nip this in the bud as it could become dangerous if it does this at an inopportune time. Has anyone experienced this?
  • Nathan has an excellent Impala website located at:

    http://home.hawaii.rr.com/impala/

You may have been there, not realizing that it was night owl who created it.

He wants to register his own domain, so it would have a much more appropriate address, like www.newimpala.com, for instance.
  • spence30spence30 Member Posts: 52
I have over 50,000 miles on 2000LS, I have had the rotors replaced twice under 36,000 miles. The pads are still the original... I guess I wouldn't worry about it until you have a problem.
  • colneljcolnelj Member Posts: 3
Any way to calibrate the computer? Mine is off by a gallon (shows less gallons used than the gas pump). Naturally, this shows that I'm getting much better gas mileage than I really am.
  • impalamomimpalamom Member Posts: 6
I have a 2001 LS with 13,500 miles on it. Last night my engine light came on. I have had regular oil changes. My dealer said that it might have something to do with an "oxygen sensor" and might re-set itself after 6 key turns. If not I should bring it in. Has this happend to anyone else?
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Impalamom: Did you check the gas cap to make sure it is tightly closed?

First thing to check if you ever get a "Check Engine" Light. If the gas cap is not tightly closed after vehicle re-fuel this creates a vacuum in the fuel system and triggers the engine light sensor.

Make sure the gas cap "Clicks" at least 2 times to ensure proper seal.

If this does not remedy the problem, then take it to your dealer as soon as possible as per owner's manual recommendations.

    how's about:

    "thechevyimpla.(com, net...)" OR
    "thechevroletimpala.(com, net...)"

didn't check if they were registered yet, but a DNS lookup doesn't come up with anything.
