    Just had chicken for lunch...hmmmmm!

The Germans use "Leatherette" seats in their "Cheaper" BMW's, Audi's and MB's. I think it is just plain vinyl or some akward leather/plastic blend.

Try this: The Lexus IS300 offers "Escaine" upholstery...
  • Kind of a cross between Biscayne and Esplenade.

What can we name the next great imitation leather seating surfaces?

    Luxohyde
    Leatherene
    Naturoskin

You guys remember a car in the 1970's (Not sure if it was an AMC Javelin or AMX) that offered real Denim covered seats? I think they used to call it the Pierre Cardin option package...

I had a "SNAFU"with my right foglight, It went out and I went to remove the bulb to see the number and it came on, I put it all back together and it was out..... Anyway I went to the dealer for an oil change and had them checkl it, they said it was a bad connection at the bulb...it worked for a day and was out again, I went to the Auto parts Store and bought a replacement bulb and it has worked ever since, also for those with the Fogs, the Part number list at Wal Mart and Auto Zone and a few others say the Impala takes a #896 Bulb... I bought a 896....got home and took out the faulty bulb and it is #893....the 893 is straight while the #896 had a bend in the base, good luck trying to fit that in there, I took out the good one to see if in fact it was the bulb that was faulty and to see if I had another #893...and it was, I have 2 #893 bulbs and all the part stores list #896..I think they are obviously wrong?...If you don't believe me, try to put a #896 Bulb in the LS Fog lamp fixture with that big bend at the end of the bulb...But why does my Ls have #893 from the factory, the 893 and 896 are the same bulb, but the 896 has a curved base.......maybe they both fit? Doesn't look like it to me, and I just replaced with the p/n I have from the factory....#893 Don

Hmmm the smell of that Rich Corinthian leather....remember Mr. Ricardo Moltanban and his famous Chrysler Cordoba ads?

    What about Jaguar...Connolly leather?
  • "Rrrrrrrich Corrrrrrrinthian Leatherrrrrrr." I remember.

I think the AMC Pacer or Gremlin had a denim package.
Whatever happened to "velour" seats? I used to love them. Warm in winter, cool in summer.
  • Butt r soft would be better. (And, in my case, more appropriate!)
  • tpkentpken Member Posts: 1,108
Mouse fuzz seats from the early 80s!

I prefer your name suggestion too Gary - but I also Resemble that Remark!
  • EVERYTHING should be made out of velour.
    Mmmmmmm. Velour toilet seat covers.

Thanks Lrcobra for letting me know about the bridgestone tires.

By the way, I bookmark all the info from this forum on auto parts/accesssories for the Impala. That way when it come to my turn for replacement, I can check back and see what I need. You guys are a real source of important information for us all! Thanks

except for the past few posts on names for the replacement of leather right?
  • You'll be laughing out of the other cheek when the 2005 Impala brochure shows the luxurious new Fabulon seating surfaces!!!

I had a '76 Olds Toronado, white with Blue crushed velour interior. Great seats, and what an engine! 'Course it only got 11 mpg.

Look how far FWD has come though!!!
  • johnclineiijohnclineii Member Posts: 2,287
The denim in AMC was from LEVI and came in Gremlins and Pacers! The Oleg Cassini package was available in Matadors. I thought Pierre Cardin did Lincolns back then, but I am not certain!
  • The Gremlin was the only car I know that had an appropriately ugly name. Ugly name for an ugly car.
I don't think there's a name for the Aztek that would even come close to it's actual appearance. Echo and Focus sure sound like pretty names too.
    At least "Gremlin" was honest!

Today I finally saw a 2002 Impala LS (Medium Pearl Green) with the front bench leather (Neutral) seats. The driver's side was power. Is it me or the bench seat feels more comfortable than the standard bucket seats?

Nice option for those that need to carry a sixth passenger on occassion and still want to get the LS package.
  • >>>Is it me or the bench seat feels more comfortable than the standard bucket seats?<<<

    Someone's getting old! =)
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
    Getting close to 31!!!

    That might be it!
  • Time to trade in that Impala for a Buick. Then again, didn't you say you liked the new Caddies?
You already live in Florida, so you'll fit right in.
Driving down the boulevard, wearing a hat, going 10 miles under the speed limit, left turn signal permanently on.
Or, how about an M5? You'll forget all about that bench seat.
  • tpkentpken Member Posts: 1,108
It's amazing how many really old - 70's Caddies, particularly Sevilles show up on E-Bay from Florida with under 40K miles. Lots of newer models too. Plenty of good buys around if you keep looking.

Teo - you always liked that Park Avenue too as I remember. Very comfortable ride and great seats. But you're way too young for that image yet!

31 - lol! Wait till 40 stares you down!

I don't dislike the Buick Park Avenue at all, but I don't think I would buldge for one any time soon.

My next car should come equipped with either I6, V6 or V8 engine, Steptronic tranny, RWD, 50/50 weight distribution and superb handling/braking.

Will Bob Lutz bring the Aussie Holdens here?

That would be the best reason to continue GM and forget about German branded iron.

I like to keep a car @ 10 years before I replace it (we staggered our cars so we're only dealing with one payment at a time, with a new car every 5 years). I bought my Impala when I was 34; I figure I'll get a Bonneville when I'm 44, a LaSabre when I'm 54, and a Seville when I'm 64. What do I do when I reach 74? Saturn?

The Impala could certainly use this new "Speakerless" car stereo system:

If you're still in the market for new tires, You might consider MICHELIN X-Ones.
Recently put them on my wife's Camry. Her original Michelins (MX4s I believe) were showing very little wear but at 62,000 miles, why wait?

In our size, X-Ones are 4 ply tread with 2 ply sidewall. Very good on wet roads, excellent on dry. Much quieter than the Goodyear Eagle GAs which despite their noise have fantastic traction.

You may also want to check the michelin.com website for a primer on tires and how to decipher all that printing on the sidewalls.
  • 00impala00impala Member Posts: 474
and I paid about $107.00 per tire, I had them for about a month and I had them taken off and Sold them, They were just as Noisy as the Goodyears,at least to me...I like the look of the GA on the 5 spoke rims, the Michelins also looked different on the rim, no major thing, but they looked bigger or more baloonish to me,they were the same size P225/60/16. My car has 25,000 miles now and my Eagle GA's have about 15,000 due to the Winter tires I "HAD" with my Steel Wheels and 9C1 Centers, I sold all of them too...I got tired of playing with all of these tires,Winter never materialized so I am leaving well enough alone with the originals thru the seasons. Good to hear from you! Don
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Who has put the highest amount of mileage on the Stock Impala LS Goodyear tires??
  • Let's see....I put 3000 on mine. But, that's only because I was too busy to get replacements earlier.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
And will be sold as a 2003 Pontiac GTO. Great news!!!

That's an interesting point you make about noise on the X-Ones mounted on an Impala.
I was not comparing apples to apples in that my X-One experience is based on a Camry not an Impala. I do like them on the Camry though and prefer them in all respects to the Michelins that were the factory originals on the Camry. They make the car feel somewhat heavier and more substantial, they're fine in the rain and they are as quiet as the originals.

As we Impala owners know, despite all their good points, these cars do NOT have the best sound insulation.

My Eagle GAs are showing no signs of wear at 24,000 plus. I have rotated them at fairly regular intervals.

Glad to hear you're not still flipping tires and wheels season to season - I never did quite get that. Take care Don.
  • That Monaro looks great. Why can't Domestic GM design and build 'em like that?
It's the same with Ford. Their foriegn models are always better than their domestic ones.
  • nosirrahgnosirrahg Member Posts: 872
I've got almost 34,000 on my original GAs, and they still look pretty good. I was the tardy rotator, wating until @ 19,000 miles to rotate originally. So, I'm not due to rotate again until later this summer at @ 38,000. I'm too cheap to just throw away good tires, but I don't mind wearing these down quicker so I can turn around and buy something better/quieter. To be honest, they've still got a good amount of tread left, especially on the front. I wouldn't be surprised if they make it to 50,000 before I replace them, and they'll probably have decent tread left then.

Why can't Chevy get a Monaro? It has the Chevy small block...

"Holden coupe gets the thumbs up for a 20003 launch in the US"

seems like many years away to me.

    perhaps a typo?

Are you sure the Sam's club tires are true X-one's? Sam's gets a special Michelin tire that's not available anywhere else. Confusingly, it's called the Michelin "X" radial. It bears very little similarity to the mainstream "X-one". I had the Sam's X radials on my minivan a couple years ago and I wasn't nearly as impressed with them as I am with the X-one's I replaced them with.

The saddest news for the US in that Holden article from Aussieland is that BRITAIN, and by implication not the US, may be getting the Commodore. SIGH!

john cline ii who wants a V8 RWD Impala (are you listening, Mr. Lutz? Must I buy a Marauder?)

the cloth seats in our Impalas are treated with Scotchguard? If not, would anyone know what a person must do to spray Scotchguard on the seats of the Impala (mainly would I have to mask off areas around the interior or take the seats completely out of the car)? Thanks for any and all input. Have a great day!
  • 00impala00impala Member Posts: 474
I did some research before I bought them at Sams, The Sams "X-Radial Plus" and the Michelin "X-One Radial" share the same specs. I matched them before I bought them, Personally I think the whole "Michelin" thing is over-rated, I do not like them, and the ones I see on Mercedes Benz cars, could the black "MICHELIN X_ONE" lettering on the side be any bigger? I had Michelins on a '93 Sable and they were fine, I just don't see buying by name only regardless of inherit qualities, since I did that and they were just as loud as the OEM tires, so next time I will go by quietness, what ever brand Like the Yokohama db or something designed to by quieter. And maybe get some Sound Deadener sprayed under my LS, since they forgot to include noise supression on the design table of the current Impala line... :) Don

One thing I noticed at first going from my 2000 LS to the 2001 LS is that the '01 is noticeable quieter than the '00 ever was. I think road insulation was improved somewhere along the line for 2001.

My sister's '01 Base is even more quieter than the LS, not only ridewise but also at engine idle. But the 3800 V6 doesn't vibrate at idle like the engine of a colleague's BMW X5 suv (Brand new).

You can see the steering wheel on that Bimmer vibrating while stopped on a traffic light.

Got some subs installed yesterday in my Impala. Very loud and boomy when Bass gain is just around a 1/3 of the way. Anyone know were I can get some cheap dynamat? Got Pics and Info posted on my site. Tell me what you guys think.

  • Nice. You show that an Impala can be personalized, without being turned into a classless pile of tastelessness like much of the "other" Impala photos on your site.
The 6 spoke 18's are so much cleaner and nicer looking than some of those huge chrome 20's I've seen on Impalas.
The tint is not only good looking, but will aid your A/C in cooling the car.
I've seen variations of Dynamat that may interest you. One is a different brand that is less than half the price. I can't remember the brand, but a Google search should find it. The other is a spray version of Dynamat which is great for difficult areas.
Dense padding under your trunk carpet may also help. You can get that at Home Depot in the flooring dept.
BTW, that's a nice, clean website you've designed.
  • teoteo Member Posts: 2,508
Chris, impressive work you have done with your car. Have you considered participating in custom car competitions?
  • wyoimpwyoimp Member Posts: 87
I know there are a bunch of us teething (drooling) for a new El Camino. Hot Rod Magazine did an article on it last fall. If it meets Fed Specs and is SUPPORTED well by Chevy, GM will sell everyone it imports. I've had 2 ELKY's already ('66 and '76), I could go for a 2005.
Don't forget to "Americanize" the interior, white numbers with red backgrounds don't cut it.
  • impalaboy2001impalaboy2001 Member Posts: 117
Thanks guys for all the praise. Teo, never considered participating in custom car competitions, I dont think we got any around here. Most of the Clubs for custom cars here are for riced out imports. Some of the guys I work with are tellin me to drop my car cause it looks like a truck, so I'm considering Eibachs or Intrax lowering springs.
Thanks garypen, I'll try out some search engines to find some audio padding for my car, I was looking for some Dynamat prices, and I calculated it was gonna be around $200 for the trunk.

I just read in the new Motor Trend last night that GM approved bringing another Holden (the infamous LS1 4 door) here as the new Impala SS. 350hp, rwd, 6-speed. Has anybody heard anything more about that? I think that's very exciting.
