Has anyone found a good deal in Tucson Arizona
or in the Phoenix area. I offer sticker price
    in Tucson Dealership.

Yes, I purchased it in Norman, OK. You in Sooner country also? I purchased a White Touring R&N and received a $300 discount after a few conversations with the manager. Every bit helps. The biggest discount was in their Tires For Life program. They are running the promotion on all new hondas, the PAX system I assumed was going to be more expensive to replace then a normal tire. The managers eyes definetly lit up when I asked him if it fell under the promotion. They hadn't even talked about it! Hehe, needless to say as long as the title is in my name I only have to pay for mounting and balancing when they need replaced. Overall it was a good experience, but I'm sure they will be ammending their Tires for Life program to not include the PAX system. Love the Odyssey will keep it until the wheels fall off, and then have them put some new ones on. hehe! Good Luck to you.

I'm about to buy one from Honda of Mesa (Phoenix), they call me and offered 500 below MSRP without pushing... will try to go lower today.

    Good luck

Long time reader first time writer. I was looking at an 05 EXL-RES but the dealer I went to in DFW wants MSRP.

As of today they have 19 O5 ODY's in their lot and all the RES's I've seen are still there on the lot.... So I don't understand who's buying cars at MSRP from these guys....

So I'm going to wait till the hoopla dies down.

One suggestion to buyers is if you really want it now, why not think about joining up with someone from the same city and try to workout a deal for 2+ vans at the same time.

Some of my colleagues did that by buying 3 2002 ODY's from one dealer at the same time. I'm sure the dealers would salivate over selling you the vans and cut a deal in the process. As an example even $1K off MSRP on a EXL-RES amounts to a easy $2.4K profit for them.

    l8ter.

This seems the typical midwest deal to get $500 off. The $1000 discounts I know of are in Tulsa area but vary from person to person. My buddy got 1k off Touring res and nav. IN 60 days we will not be talking about anything less than $1500 I am sure. I think EX-L Res NAV will be discounted the least--touring the most due to lack of demand for base touring. On deal I was posted earlier the best I can do for EX-L Res Nav and I am a long term customer---$1000 off which appears to be a special deal just for me. Time to just cool down and wait for the reality check.

Keep up the good posts everyone!!!!

We just purchased a Slate Green EX for $810 below MSRP from Honda of Lisle is suburban Chicago. Internet sales folks were very nice to deal with. They had a great selection of models and colors.

Good idea! Anyone in Orange County, CA wants to join me for buying a 2005 Odyssey EX-L w/DVD & W/NAV for $2000 or more below MSRP. If not, I will buy this weekend for $32,200.

After reading all these posts, I cannot understand how the dealers in Seattle area (Puget Sound) are not negotiating below $1000 above MSRP. And I see all these deals all over the country with prices below MSRP for the top of the line Touring. I don't understand this. Are we being ripped off here in the North West?
I paid MSRP + $1,200 and that was after negotiating for weeks with different dealers - most of them dropped off and only one was left, who gave me also the highest trade-in value as well as the best price.
My experience with the sales person was fantastic and when I went to see the minivan yesterday at the showroom, it is one of the best car, let alone a minivan I have ever seen.
In any case I just don't understand these price differentials.
  • baileybradbaileybrad Member Posts: 33
Without being too harsh, yes, I think that you are getting "ripped off". I just could not enjoy a vehicle that I paid that much over MSRP to purchase. The only thing that I can figure is that those dealers are pretty much holding the line. I would not buy under those conditions. We went through the same thing when we purchased our '99 Ody back in the really nutty days. We refused to be ripped off. Many were wanting bounties on top of MSRP and adding on overpriced items of little of now value. We wound up locating a dealer who was fair, considering the market at the time. We paid sticker, nothing more. And when you looked at the value that came with the price, it was still very good compared to overpriced (very high MSRP) vans that were then "discounted" by the dealers (Dodge, Chrysler, etc.). We just purchased an '05 EX for $11,200 difference, trading our '02 EX. When the final numbers are written up, it will most likely be around a "discount" of about of $800 to $1000 dollars. The prices are going down fairly quickly in this area. Unless the excellent reviews that the Ody is receiving somehow cause a huge rush (which I doubt), the prices will continue to move below MSRP in most areas. Obviously, time will tell. We talked to a couple of Honda dealers earlier this month about the Odys and they said come back after the first of the calendar year....they have both already called me about coming in. We drove both the Ody and the XLE Sienna and the Ody was so much sweeter. I really tried to purchase a Sienna but even though there were great deals to be had the Ody was just too good to pass up.

    Hi ody2005,
Sorry, but i'm a little confused. I noticed that you posted a message where you implied that you bought(?) an Ody for 32,200 which was over 2k in savings(you may want to check your own math in that thread). Now you are "buying this weekend". So can you clarify these things? If it is true(the $32,200 deal) then you have just helped out tremendously in the form of a great bargaining chip. Of course if you don't actually own the vehicle then you comment carrys no weight at all.
    Thanks in advance
    Jock

Actually, I walked out of the deal because the saleman didn't want to give me a written paper of the total amount on paper. He afraid that I will use it and price match with another dealer. Anyway, he only wants $200 deposit for the deal and he will keep all the documents there when the car due in within 2 or 3 weeks. I think I have to go back Saturday and buy it anyway. I am just not used to order and wait 2 or 3 weeks and afraid of something might happen.
But honestly, the deal is real and he will keep the price for me when I come back.
  • rockenbachrockenbach Member Posts: 10
O k . . . too bad that is the reality of it. You do not own an Odyssey for that price. Now in 2 weeks you may(I hope so). Now I do see what you meant about "over" 2k in savins IF the price (32,200)includes the destination fee, is that right?

I just bought an EX-L for my wife this afternoon. They didn't want to budge on the MSRP but they gave me a good price for my Audi A4 and they threw in the MP3 player and mud guards. They will bargain for options if they don't budge on the price. My wife and I are really happy with the purchase. Dealer: Hidy Honda in Dayton, OH. Happy hunting...
  • rockenbachrockenbach Member Posts: 10
oh btw - it is o k for you to mention the Dealership where this is happening. So while I am not in your area, I am curious to know the name of the Dealership. Is it Norm Reeves? TIA
  • sandiego_usersandiego_user Member Posts: 6
Anyway you are getting the vehicle $2000 below MSRP.
Then why do you need to join with another person from same city. What is the advantage that you are getting by bringing in one more buyer?
  • surferjoesurferjoe Member Posts: 18
This $2000 below MSRP is starting to sound a bit fishy. I'm in Orange County, CA and have yet to see a price even close to this. The numbers from DV8TOR are pretty close to what I am seeing. Anywhere from MSRP to a few hundred below is about the lowest. Norm Reeves in Huntington Beach, Honda World in Westminster and Power in Costa Mesa are all asking $1000 to $3000 over sticker. Those three are ridiculous but there are many other places to look.
  • baileybradbaileybrad Member Posts: 33
Hidy Honda was one of the worst offenders back when the 99 and 00 Odys were in short supply. I am glad that you made a deal that you were fine with but that's is the exactly the type of dealership that gives automobile sales a bad name.

When we were looking at the Sienna, I spoke with a salesperson who worked at White something or other dealership in downtown Dayton back when the Ody madness was at its peak. She told me some stories that were just brutal about Hidy.

I knew of them from reading about them and their tactics on these boards. Hope you made out really well on your trade to offset paying sticker.

I truly understand what you say. I held for over 4 weeks, but I managed to wreck both my cars and I decided I am better off buying the car I want rather than an intermediary car. However, I am just shocked at the prices that are being offered for the cars outside of Pacific NW.
I just wonder if there is collusion or a few people owning most of the Honda dealerships in this area. I count it towards experience, but the car is so good that I am willing to overpay to get it sooner

I also noticed what appeared to be price fixing in the PDX area when I bought my 03 Accord and 04 Ody. I think this has been going on for years. The industry has a rich history of fraud, cons, and good old consumer rip-offs. Why wouldn't they try to fix prices? This is still America isn't it?

I picked up my Ocean Mist EX-L RES/NAV on Thursday evening. (baileybrad, it was an EX-L, not an LX). I love the color. It's a medium blue with hints of grey and a touch of periwinkle that changes color depending on the lighting. (I'm still waiting to see what it looks like in sunshine since we haven't seen any here in Ohio for a long time! Hmm, maybe it's the long shadows being cast by all the political barnstorming going on. :) I love the car, very comfortable and excellent handling. I'm still learning about the NAV/RES system, though a have a 14 yr old son who's taking the lead on that task. The couple of things that I'm disappointed in are the headlights are not auto on/off so I'll have to get used to being sure they are turned off, and since I'm vertically challenged, it would've been nice to have the adjustable pedals and a driver's seat with memory settings. My knees are very close to the dash, so it's cumbersome to get in and out without moving the seat back each time. I think I'm still happy that I got the EX-L vs the Touring, since I didn't want the uncertainty of the PAX tire initial offering.

Details on the deal- I got it for $300 under MSRP, with a Cargo Cover (value $271), free road hazard insurance (supposed value $450), free car washes, and loaner cars. Other places in town (Beechmont Honda @ $900 under MSRP and Jeff Wyler Colerain @ $1500 both by phone/internet) were lower, but I would've had to order the Ocean Mist and wait even longer. Also, Performance Honda was very upfront, and not automatically adding on anything - something that I wasn't sure about with the other 2 dealerships in town since I didn't work with them in person.

    vshah,

"I just wonder if there is collusion or a few people owning most of the Honda dealerships in this area. I count it towards experience, but the car is so good that I am willing to overpay to get it sooner"

True dealer collusion is highly unlikely, since it is illegal. If multiple dealerships have the same owner, it is not unreasonable that all of those dealerships would have identical or similar pricing policies.

More likely, supply and demand are at work. Many urban and large suburban centers have a limited supply of Odysseys relative to comparably higher demand than at dealerships located in less-populated areas. In fact, I think you validate this in part by your statement that you are "willing to overpay to get it sooner". It doesn't take more than a handful of people with the same sentiment to justify an MSRP-only policy on the part of a dealership.

I test drove a touring with NAVI. I was very impressed with the NAVI and am interested in buying an EX-L with NAVI. Anyone in Sacramento area negotiated under MSRP? I have had informal discussions and MSRP seems to be the going rate.
  • baileybradbaileybrad Member Posts: 33
Thanks for the details. They are looking for an EX Ocean Mist for us. Otherwise, it will be around 3 weeks. I will post the exact details of our deal once all of the papers are signed. Enjoy your vehicle, and thanks for keeping us posted as to when it was arriving. I still have not seen any OMM at any other dealerships. I also have not seen a new '05 on the road as of yet.

Bought a 2005 Odyssey EXL thru the internet department at Carey Paul Honda (Snellville, Ga.)and had a very good experience. The gave me a price that was lower than the MSRP and there were no changes once I got there. This is the second Odyssey I bought thru the internet at this dealership and had good service both times. Tried another dealer but price changed once I got there. If anybody wants to be treated right try them.
  • lakeratlakerat Member Posts: 17
After having bought 7 Odys ( 1 each year and 6 from the same dealer all at MSRP) for my 2006 I think I will go elsewhere come this Sept. Snellville is only 55 miles from my home. This year I called Gwinett Place Honda' and they wanted $900 over MSRP with some useless addons and had the nerve to tell me this was a good price since other dealers in central Ga. were charging $1800 over MSRP. I would like to know how much under MSRP you paid and what was the documentation fee? I paid $399 this year and $299 in the years before that. Let me know if your price included destination. Good luck with your new Ody. Hope next year Navigation only is an option on the EX-L. Honda can keep their touring model, Its bad enough to pay sticker but the additional $4000 is not worth it.

Picked up and drove my Sage Brush/Olive EX-L w/DVD & NAVI 300 miles home. What a pleasure.

Hit a few traffic snag, spoke to the NAVI to get a detour, and it worked great.
Anyway the dealer was very no nonsense and a nice
guy. I asked for MSRP-500, no BS fees, he said fine, no haggle, took a credit card, and I picked up the car. He took his time "teaching" me the car, and he also gave me accessories at cost.

There was no upselling of other stuff, and no

"I gotta talk to the manager" crap.

Highly recommeded, even if you have to drive a bit. I rented an avis car one-way to pick it up.

Dealer was Valley Honda in Monroeville,PA (about 10mi east of Pittsburgh).
Contact me for the decent sales guy info via email.

Auto Club and Costco offer special pricing for most cars, however, not for the Odessey. Carsdirect.com still has Odyssey $2K over MSRP. Edmunds TMV is at MSRP which is consistent with the few local dealers I spoke with. Found $1K under MSRP at a Northern California dealer. Hoping to get a dealer down here to match or beat that price. We will be leasing and so far have found a variance in money factors and security deposit amounts. The search continues....

Has anyone recently closed a deal in the LA area that would volunteer the numbers?
  • kalp1970kalp1970 Member Posts: 6
First of all thanks to edmunds.com (I don't work for them) and the members who post here for sharing their experiences. After what seems likes weeks of reading, test driving, and endless emails, phone calls, and haggling ;)

We purchased a 2005 Honda Odyessy Touring Silver Pearl (base model) w/Gray Leather Interior from Renton Honda for $35010 (includes dest. fee)
(includes Carpet Mats, Wheel Locks, 3rd row Sunshades, supposed value over $1K)+ 200 " Doc Fees" + WA Tax @9.1%

I would recommend that people keep pushing thier Honda dealers and don't pay the "Market Adjustment" On the car we got they had advertised $2K markup over MSRP.

Also, I put the $3500 down on a credit card with 2% rebate so that's another $700, I'll see at the end of the year. There were other dealers further away willing to go lower (upto $500 off MSRP) but would not deliver until End of November or December.

Umm that's $70 but it's better than nothing. Buy yourself a couple of tanks of premium. :)

Thanks to this forum,I finally ordered my EXL+RES silver pearl today from Quintana Honda in Paris,Texas. Most of the deal was done over email.
    Final price:
            MSRP $32,410
            DIsc $1,060
    02 MDX trade $26,562
Total price after tax and $50.doc fee(no other crooked fees)$6,900.
    Thats with my trade-in.
I contacted all Dallas,Texas honda dealers and told me they dont sell under msrp.Good luck to the sukers.
The windnoise coming from the driverside @ 40-50mph was on the demo,So I told the dealer to fix it since i am only picking my vehicle up next Thursday. They had to swap with another dealer to get the silver.Windnoise problem was posted on this site-Thanks

Sometimes,it pays to contact dealers in small towns, like Paris,TX to get a better deal.(90miles NE of Big D
    Good luck guys!!!!!

Agree on your statement about the Touring model. I think the documentation fee was $399 which is about the amount most dealers charge. We paid $515.00 under the MSRP. I'm happy with the deal plus it was a very easy transaction. In Sept. contact there internet dept.. They delivered what they said they would do.

Hi, I have been reading messages in this forum but have not seen any regarding experiences in Central New York (Upstate NY) area.

Am almost ready to buy an 05 EX-L and hope to get one with Redrock Pearl color. Deals nearby sell at MSRP. Anyone has any experiences or recommendations on pricing? Also I am open for Internet purchase. Any comments on Internet experience are welcome too.

Have not read anything from anyone in this area. I have done my research and reading for the past 2 months and am just about ready to pull the trigger. Going to buy touring with NAVI & RES but trying to find a dealer who will give $1000-1500 off MSRP, best I have been able to negotiate so far is full sticker with $400-$600 in accessories at no charge.
I am located north of Boston

Took a test drive of a Touring Navi. Was told that any Odyssey could be built within 3 weeks. Garden State offered MRSP-750 on EX Navi without any other apparent unusual charges.

Is there any way to get Navi without the rear DVD>

I've had 3 dealers offer sticker price plus a discount on the tow package ($980 instead of 1200+) for either an EX or EXL. Has anyone found any Northern California dealers willing to going less.

Any one have experience / advice for towing (tent trailer) on an 05 Odyssey?

On Sept. 22 I emailed lots of dealers in Washington. I thought the Seattle area would offer me the best deal. Not even close. Try Moses Lake! Initially my best offer was $200 under from Spokane, but even with a dealer trade he couldn't get the vehicle I wanted until late November.

The next day I heard back from Moses Lake, offering $500 under with delivery in October. The internet salesman called to dealers outside their normal trade area to find me a Desert Rock EX-L with DVD/Nav. The document fee was $35. The state required title fee was $61. Plus sales tax. That was it. Not hidden fees, no additional fees.

We picked up our vehicle Friday. Very easy. No pressure to buy any extras. Fast & friendly.

My husband DID NOT WANT anyone to be allowed to test drive our vehicle before we picked it up. I was assured this would not happen, and it did not. There were only 9 miles on it, which were from the Honda required dealer test.

I didn't ask, but I bet that now prices are coming down, they are offering more than $500 off. They offered $500 off on September 23!

One Seattle dealer insisted that I was going to be "had" with a quote like that. He said it was completely unreasonable to believe that a dealer would sell such a hot vehicle to me at that price! He sent me a lengthy email detailing why this couldn't possibly happen and why I should give him a call so we could discuss it. He didn't want to see me burned. I was quite ammused!

I like your idea, I am doing same with my friend in San Diego, CA. I talked to 25 dealers in San Diego surroundings including LA and Las Vegas for 2 Odysseys.

We are having the problem with colors, most of the dealers may not have the colors what we are looking for. Finally I bought one 2005 Odyssey EXL-DVD for $31600, it's $750 less than MSRP doc fees only $45.00. My friend looking for EXL-DVD-NAV, I negotiated with the dealer, they agreed the same discount $750 below MSRP for my friend too when they get his color.

If you would like to join with us, you are always welcome.

I seems that most posts show that buyers are still paying MSRP+ on their '05 Odyssey minivan purchases. It surprises me that buyers are freely admitting that they are doing paying this premium. Is this really a seller's market? I mistakingly thought that increased production would offset this premium.

If you are close to Albany check out Bedard Brothers Honda in Cheshire,MA. We have ordered our silver touring with NAV from them. Build date is 10/26 for delivery on Nov 10. Check them out. We paid 950 over INVOICE + $50 for documentation fee. We are paying PA taxes and tags.

Cars Direct in our zip code has Ody at MSRP and as far as I know Costco's price is $500 under MSRP everywhere.

This is the first I've heard of any dealer offering only $900 over invoice. Would you mind telling everyone exactly what you paid for this vehicle. Touring w/NAV/RES. MSRP is $38K+, but invoice plus $1K would make it about $35K. Also do you know if this dealership ships vehicles. with the quote you've provided this could still save $3K off the cost.
  • lakeratlakerat Member Posts: 17
Something does not seem right about paying $950 over INVOICE.I hope you put a receipted deposit down.I hope for your sake that the dealer is on the up and up and not telling you a story to get an order and when the car comes in the excuses why the car cannot be sold for the agreed price start. What I find more astonishing is the $50 processing fee. Most dealers, at least those in my area of central Ga.charge $399 and up.Just more money in the pocket of those greedy honda dealership owners.

I have been looking in Atlanta as well. Checked with them about one month ago and at that time the best three dealers I found were Hennessey Honda (via CostCo), Thompson Honda and Carl Gregory in Columbus (about 1 1/2 hrs from Atlanta) all around 500-600 below MSRP. Have you found any dealers doing better than this in Atlanta. I could drive 4 hours to TN and do much better.
