Thanks for the information - we're really impressed with the offer you got in Asheboro and we're trying negotiate something similar with them as I type this post. If there is any other information you could send my way it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would say you got a great deal. My OTD was right at $30M.

I would say you got a great deal, since I paid 27500 + TTL for a EXL alone.

    Hi renee:

I checked with Bob barber in Greenville and found they were not willing to deal at the price I was asking. I ended up purchasing from the dealership in Wilson, NC. I purchased an EXL RES for 30215 after tax tags and license. Sanford Honda was willing to go this low, but everyone else I checked with said they could not match that price. I see from another posting that someone paid much lower for their EXL RES in Ashboro, NC(29200). I would check them first, then check with Wilson. Wilson will also locate the vehicle at that price without a locator's fee. The salesperson that I spoke with was very friendly and easy to deal with. I think that Goldsboro had a black and a white EXL RES on the lot. I am pretty sure that Wilson can locate a White EXL RES since the lot that they got mine from also had a white exl res on it. Dealers not willing to work with my price: Goldsboro, Greenville, Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Burlington. I sent you an email to your carspace email account.

Also: you mentioned you have a Kia Sedona which I am assuming you will trade in. I had a trade in, but I ended up selling for $2500 above my trade in value before I bought the EXL RES.
  • iiiandlucyiiiandlucy Member Posts: 4
It was really easy to get the price. That was the first price they offered me and they came within $112 of what I needed on my trade-in. Not any "haggling" at all. I simply called and asked for the best on and EX-L RES and they came back with $29,200 out the door. Here's the kicker...they got the color I wanted in within 2 days! I am not sure of the rules of this board but I will gladly give you as much info as I can. GOOD LUCK!!!!

$26,700 included destination, mud flaps, and wheel locks. Had several offers in this range, but ended up with Community Honda in Orland Park, IL.

I am looking at EX-L right now as well. What does RES mean?
Like someone else asked is it possible to list the breakdown of what you were charged if it's allowed?

I am not sure my prior message made it, so if this is a repeat please ignore.

I paid $24,500 (incl. dest.) for an EX with cloth at Riverside Honda. They had plenty of colors.

Hohen Honda sp? in San Diego offered $25,300. I think Pacific Honda would have met the $24,500, but I already bought my car. All of the other Honda dealers in San Diego sent automatic responses with no quote or declined to meet the above price.

Just bought my EX-L +DVD from Leith Honda in Raleigh. Paid $28,750 + 3% tax + $74 tag + $398 doc fee. Only paid for mudguards and got the wheel locks for free. I did all the negotiations by emailing with their internet sales manager and he is great guy to work with. None of the other dealers could quote me below $29k. When I picked up the car at the dealership, no hassle whatsoever and the price is exactly the same as he gave me in the email. The only sales speech I hear is when i was signing the paper work with the sales manger and he tried to sale me the ext warranty. It is 100k or 7 yrs extended wty. and I bought it for $1600. I didn't take the time to negotiate the price as we thought it was a ok price and we also took advantage of 2.9% rate.

Overall, i had a good shopping experience. Reading others experience from this forum helped me a lot and I wish I knew this forum before I bought all my cars. :)

    Hi 1khp:

Warranty Direct sells a very good 7yr/100K extended warranty on the honda odyssey for $814. You can cancel your contract with the Raleigh dealership and purchase this one. Here is the web site:

    http://www.warrantydirect.com/

It is slightly limited, and has a $100 deductible, but when you actually look at what is covered, it is very well worth it.

    It won't cover:
    DVD player
    coolant system
    rear suspension
    antilock brakes
    fuel delivery
    interior/extrior features.

But here is what is covered:
    emission sensors
    wear and tear failures
    engine
    transmission
    drive axle
    steering
    front suspension
    brakes (other than antilock)
    air conditioning
    all electrical
    seals and gaskets
    damage due to overheating
plus other things like towing/car rental etc

I think this covers nearly everything that is likely to cause a problem with operating the vehicle.

The higher coverage for $1200 includes everything except:
Battery; shock absorbers; manual transmission clutch assembly; friction clutch disc & pressure plate; throwout bearing; manual and hydraulic linkages; safety restraint systems; glass; lenses; sealed beams; bulbs; brake rotors & drums; weather strips; exterior body parts/ornamentation; paint; upholstery & carpet; tires; wheels/rims; exhaust system.

My guess is that this is equivalent to what you got for $1600 and was referred to as bumper-to-bumper coverage.

Im happy to email you the quote I received but need your email contact. Also, Diamondbar Honda and Sierra Honda in Monrovia got closest but were both still $500 more than Rock. Dont even bother with Fladeboe in Irvine.

Wow, I just discovered this site and wish I'd looked for it LAST week...

In Washington State I just (Sunday) bought an 06 EX (not L) for $27,500 and they acted like they weren't making a penny. Hah.

Well, I've already signed... but, they're pushing HARD the 8 yr/120K mile extended warranty for a "mere" $2200 and gave me two extra days (till tonight) to add it on... They made a big point about how expensive it would be to fix the computer controlled doors... I really don't want to pay that much more but maybe I should? ...

Any feedback for a fretting single mom in the 11th hour?!!!

    Thanks so much.

Was that an EX-L or EX? I contacted Community Honda and they said the best they could do on an EX-L was 28,803.

You also had neg. equity for trade?--call me a dingbat  , but what do you mean by that? I'm assuming that means your trade in was not paid off?

My Kia Sedona is paid off (well through a loan with my 401K)--I will try to sell privately, but willing to trade also. If you don't mind, what will be your monthly payment for $27,781?

It appears that you should *not* buy the warranty if previous posts are correct. You should be able to buy a new car warranty anytime in the 1st 6 months and for a lot less. The warranty you're being quoted looks like it can be had for $1250 by phone from a dealer in the midwest. Check out the "Honda Extended Warranties: Pricing and Info" discussion. Search for "1250"

I just bought a EX-L RES Odyssey and it was trailered in to the dealer...It has 200 miles on it. Should I be concerned? Should I ask for anything to make up for the 200 miles?

I know on past cars I've had, there's a break in period where you're not suppose to drive the car above 50 MPH. The Sales Manager says not to worry...not the case with HOnda and that the car was only test driven.

    Help, please.

Wanted to share, I was able to purchase on Monday a 2006 Touring RES (no Navi) for $32,650 (includes destination) does not include $189 doc fee or sales tax (7.53% here).

To get the color we wanted, this was a dealer trade and had to be trucked here from another state. Had 50 miles on it. I'm happy with the deal, which is less than invoice and did cut into the dealers holdback a bit. We had a chance to buy one on the dealers lot for $350 less, but getting the color was work it.

In the end, waiting for the 2007 wasn't worth it, no real feature upgrades, $300 higher MSRP and no $500 incentive and no cheap Honda interest rates.

Thanks to all the participants on this board, this is a great tool to give prospective buyers and idea of what these vans are selling for around the country.
  • mdavis99mdavis99 Member Posts: 9
Congrats. I'm in KC as well. What dealer did you end up using? I almost have a deal closed with Independence Honda. However, the van came in on the trailer and has 200 miles on it. Should I be concerned? I may ask them to throw some all weather mats in or something.....
  • stuartlongstuartlong Member Posts: 17
I had noticed that there seem to be quite a few Odyssey Touring vans on the lots that we visited in our search for an EXL RES. I think the reputation of the run flat tires is catching up with them. My sales person at Huebert Vester Honda in Wilson stated that they have not been able to move the Touring models and have sold less than a dozen all year. If you are willing to gamble on the run flats, it looks to me like they are willing to move that model on out the door at unusally good savings to the buyer.

Also, when we purchased our van, I was told that there were about 150 miles on the van and that the van was being driven in from a different lot. The van ended up with 240 miles on it, but we were aware of this ahead of time and were very pleased with the deal that we were getting. I think your only real recourse to a dealer springing mileage on you is to not purchase the vehicle. They may be willing to do something to bring you back to the table, but be ready to walk away.

Personally, I was not concerned about the mileage on our vehicle. The only concern I had was that the person moving the vehicle used the cruise control in the relocation. Cruise control should not be used in the first 1000 miles of use of the vehicle due to engine settling issues. But, in the end, I figured that the cruise was used for only a short period of mileage since the route it was transported contains many turns and speed changes, so I am willing to overlook that and just be happy with our new van.

I live in the DFW area and bought our new odyssey for $33,500 OTD. Accessories included tint, wheel locks, VIN etching, and splash guards. Probably may have been able to get a little cheaper, but it was hard to find the color I wanted. Rusty Wallis (Mesquite) was the dealer and the internet sales mgr negotiated out the door cost over the phone. I couldn't have been happier. Avoid Lute Riley Honda as they told me they had the color, I drove 1 1/2 hrs to get there (after making an appt), then they tell me they don't have the right model or color. They were asking $34,000 OTD with no acessories!!!

i had the most pleasant buying experience at Spreen Honda. got me a silver EX at $24,099 and after taxes+fees, came out to $26,341.91 out the door, baby!! my internet sales mgr was a real classy person to boot

Just bought an 06 Odyssey EX-L from Capitol Honda. Here is breakup -

    Price $26688.00 (about 1200 below invoice :)
    Taxes $ 2205.47 (8.25%)
    Regis/Other $ 290.75
    ------------------------------
    OTD $29184.22 (is'nt that great!)
    6year/80K Warrenty $ 1855.00
    ------------------------------
    Final $31039.22

How does the deal look? I literally started at 9:00AM in the morning sending quote requests (Capitol was the first one to whom I sent and they also were the first ones to respond - less than 15 minutes). Got an internet quote for $26988. I went in there around 4:00PM and test drove the car. After just about 15-20 minutes of negotiations - once I told them I was ready to buy the extended warrenty they reduced the price (obviously i had to push hard) by 300 bucks and struck a deal! But was a extremely coooool experience. Brought home the car at 9:00PM. Whew! Had not imagined that it would go this smoooooth.

Hope it helps. For anyone who is looking around this Labor Day weekend -

Get internet quotes first. This is a MUST.
Negotiate as hard as you can with the quotes - pitching the best quote around and asking for more - from your living room over the phone. Once you have the right quote and the color/trim available with anyone - only then - shoot at him and get the deal struck.

The car is just awesome. Once I struck the deal got another friend of mine come in and do a similar deal! My salesman just got crazy!!!

All the best with your search. Hope you get the car you want.

Price is good for the Car Price. But Check out the Warranty Deal. Looks like they made money on that as Visit this - www.hondawarranty.com and the price for that is very low. I myself lost on the warranty deal and just wanted to help you. I payed 6/100k for 1300. on Honda warranty online it is 960.

Suggestion is go ahead and cancel it with Capitol Honda and then sign up online after a month. you should be fine and yours a awesome deal car Price.

I had a horrible experience at Riverside Honda. It was the worst car shopping experience I’ve ever had and I had purchased 8 new vehicles in the past.

What's worse than getting a specific quote from the internet sales department and then driving 1 1/2 hours there to find out they cannot honor the price?

I believe I had done everything I could to avoid this from happening but it still happened.

    This is what happened.
I was getting internet quotes from various dealerships for a quote on EXL w/o Nav and Res.
7/31 Riverside Honda replied with a quote of $26768
8/4 After doing more research, I've decided that I'd like to get additional accessories including Cargo Net, Cargo Tray and the Day and Night Mirror
8/4 Riverside Honda confirmed they would be able to honor the price of $26768 including all the accessories
8/24 I was going to be out on vacation for a week. Riverside Honda confirmed the price and there were 2 vehicles that match the color of my choice and they would be able to sell it to me after I came back from vacation if the vehicles are still available. I told them I would call back on 9/2 to see if they still have the vehicles in stock.
9/2 Riverside Honda confirmed on the phone and in emails that they have 2 vehicles available and would hold it for me. I made an appointment to go see at 3pm.

When I get to the dealership, the internet sales person greeted me and handed me over to another sales person who does not belong to the internet sales department. He showed us the vehicle which was exactly what we wanted. We went inside to fill up forms and he confirmed the price with the internet sales person. He then turned in the forms/price sheet to the "desk" and that was when he came back and told us they could not "do it" for the price.

The sales person came back and asked us whether we would be willing to pay for warranty at 10% of the car price (way too high) and we said no. He asked if we would be willing to “give up” the accessories. He said that they would be losing way too much money because Honda had increased the cost on all new vehicles. He said the internet sales person did not check the price carefully enough and had made an offer they could not meet.

I told him nicely that this was the price we were quoted. I did not ask for anything more than what I was offered. I confirmed it so many times before I came in and I could not understand how this could be happening. Later I actually gave in and said that I would buy the car if they include only the Day/Night auto mirror. The answer is No, they could not put in ANY accessory at all.

I asked to speak to the internet sales person who I got the quote from but the floor sales person said the internet sales person could not do anything anyway. At this time, nobody from the dealership apologized or tried to work with us. It’s pretty much “take it or leave it.” It’s pretty much “I gave you a bad quote but that was just too bad.”

I got into my car and called the internet sales person. She promised to make some phone calls to see “what she could do.” After 15 min I called her back and she said “Sorry. I should’ve checked the price before I quoted you, but at this time there is nothing much I could do for you.”

I was getting very frustrated and decided to go back to the lobby to talk to a general manager. After waiting for 1 hour, the internet sales manager came out and basically said the same thing that they could not be losing money and therefore would not be able to include any of the accessories in the deal. If we want the car, we have to pay for the same price that was quoted without the accessories. He understood the quote was supposed to include all the accessories but they just could not sell the car with such a big loss.

I was able to find the day/night auto mirror for $150 from Honda manufacture after only 1 min of search online. So, for $150, Riverside Honda decided to blow away a customer who had came 1 ½ hours to them because of a quote they offered.
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
Your story is somewhat surprising because internet quotes are generally solid, particularly those of long distance variety. Your quoted price was not any sort of "mistake" but present market value based on reports here.

Even given the distance you drove (or, perhaps, especially given the distance), I cannot understand why you invested one more minute of your time once it was clear that they were welching on the deal. I always bolt at the first sign of any type of underhandedness.

I am in search for a Odyssey EX or EXL and so far no one in this town (only been trying for 24 hours) has been willing to give me a quote online. I am willing to play hardball and will drive to Richmond, VA if necessary. My neighbor said their friend sold them a Honda at invoice but from what I understand on this site, that isn't such a great deal. Any suggestions?

My husband and I plan to test drive one tomorrow (at the dealer who claims that the color I want isn't on the lot but they have 2 on their internet inventory - so far not impressed with this dealership). We are paying cash and won't be doing a trade in (our last car will be totaled due to the recent rains!).

Another dealer said they have a $3000 cash discount(suppose to end on the 4th but "may be extended" - is that dealer specific? and if so how do I handle that when I ask for the bottom line price (would 3K be about invoice?).

    Thank you!
    Sue

Any tips is greatly appreciated. This site is awsome!
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
    1) Decide which model you want. 2) Focus on the price of the vehicle (which is wholly local market dependent), not "discount" - subtracting from an inflated price means nothing. 3) Do not mention you are a cash buyer until after a price has been agreed upon.

I follow this thread and can't recall any recent posts about prices in your area. Would suggest you expand your internet price quote search area and send out some more emails.

EXCELLENT price for the Ody EX-L + RES that has an MSRP of $ 32,945.
There are VERY few Honda dealers willing to sell for that low price. :shades:

Not all internet qoutes are the same. Some dealers invested big money on ads and there is a lot at stake if they refuse you. In my case, I got a great quote of 06 EXL-RES from this dealer who advertised heavily on the radio about this car-buying experience. Even so, they tried to get me to pay an additional $1000 on document fee and destination charge. Luckily, the email I had was very clear about what is included. I was gonna leave, but they gave me the car for the price.

    2006 Touring w/ NAVI
    Silver Pearl Metallic
    Black leather
    roofrack cross bars
    mud/splash guard
    wheel locks
$34,000.00 even plus tax & fees.

Bought Friday night, drove 80 miles out to Stockton, CA. Hassel free transaction. Emailed Honda dealers within 100 miles asking for quote. Took lowest quoted price from round 1 and resend it out to have dealers match or beat. Took round 2 lowest price and did the same. Took round 3 lowest price, and send it out on Friday morning. Was anxious to get the van for the weekend, so started calling, Stockton Honda gave me quote of $34,000.00 including the dealer installed accessories. I confirmed that they do have the car, tell them to hold it. Got off work, took my check book, go their @ 7:30pm, and drove home that night with a brand spanking awesome Odyssey, it got 10 miles on ODO, and was build 07-2006, and got on the dealers lot on 08-24-06.

This was the best deal I could find in the SF Bay Area. No other dealers could come close, of course, over the weekend, all the other dealers started calling to see if I'm still interested, when I told them the price I bought, they thought it was a great deal, too. Althought most of them won't believe me, thought i was still negotiating or some kind of negotiating tactic.

One dealer, almost got me in the dealership, was $260 above Stockton Honda's quote, but was like 5 miles from my house, I said, it might be worth it. So emailed the sales guy, but he never got back to me, I called him, and he told him, it's without dealer-installed accessories, and they were already installed, etc.. So I still said fine, when can I pick it up, he said he don't have it, he has a regulard Touring, but no NAVI. I was so pissed, that I said thank you for you time, and hung up the phone. That's when I called Stockton Honda and got the best deal.
I'll be out and about enjoying the new ride.

Anyone know what we might expect to see towards the end of Sept and Oct? I went into this weekend expecting to buy a Pilot, but after a test drive, I much preferred the Odyssey. Will Honda offer more incentives to help clear 06 inventory?

gr1m - in Va Beach did you get that deal?

I am going to a different dealer tomorrow and seeing my neighbor's friend. I got a quote on an LE Sienna (MSRP 28K) for a bottom line (without taxes, etc..) of $23,200! They beat fitzmall.com! Now I am wondering what this Honda dealer is going to do with this offer on the table - really, I like the Honda better for a few reasons but how much more is it worth?

Thanks for all of your advice...BTW the STUPID Honda dealer I saw today got me a ticket! Got pulled over because the cop was sick of the dealers not displaying the license plates on the rear of the vehicle - I was balling! Then all they offered me was invoice - I walked I was so mad! And now I have a stupid ticket to deal with!

I've been watching the price for the '06 EX in the NY Metro Area. After pitting three dealers against one another over the past 4-5 days, the lowest quote I got was $25,110 (including destination). They all started bidding at around $25,500 (including destination). One dealer told me he would not match the lower price as he is confident he can get the higher price.

I was ready to buy at $25,110, but for the color choices (they only had white and beige remaining).

Incidentally, it did seem that the dealers have a larger than ordinary inventory of Tourings in stock. I'm looking for an EX or maybe an EX-L (w/o DVD w/o NAV) of which they are very few '06's remaining.

At this point, I'm going waiting for the '07's and the next round of incentives.

Is this $0 deductible good ANYWHERE in the US? A friend of mine who is in the business here in Sol Cal says he haven't heard of such option. His dealership offers a $0 deductible warranty that is only good at a few dealerships owned by the same company. Everywhere else, $50 deductible.

It's a great price for the EX-L. It's quite close to what I paid for my EX-L a few weeks ago.

Please request a refund on that warranty! A 8yr 120K 0 deductible hondaCare warranty's cost is 1230 and can be had for $20 above that.

Congrats on the car. It's fun to drive.
