    Larry, you should be able to click on "ponch49" from my previous posts to get my name however, for the record, my name is Paul Gerrior. The warranty I purchased is the "official" Honda Plus warranty and I could not find a better deal. Hats off to Errol for offering you this "superb" deal. I'd love to know what he would sell a new Odyssey for and I would certainly give him my business the next time I'm in the market for a vehicle!

    I just visited Cardinal Honda in Groton, CT. The salesman told me that they're selling the LX for MSRP, no haggling. I haven't read any other posts where this "no haggle" deal was encountered. Does anyone know if I can expect to bring him down from MSRP, or is this "no haggle" thing for real? I expect it's not.

    In reference to this UBS, what is it? Does it matter where you live? How long are the waits when using this service?

    I thought I heard about more vans becoming available when a new plant comes online. Does anyone know the ETA for this new plant?
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
    AFAIK the new plant is building test units and will come on line very soon. As they build up production there, the Canada plant will start slowing down production in anticipation of changing over to building a Honda SUV. So overall production should remain at about 120K units per year.

    I have a 2002 Odyssey EXL Nav on order and I hope my 02 Ody is not from new plant. I would hate to get one of the first units from the new plant. The potential of getting a lemon or a van with many flaws are likely. Any way I can find out what plant my new van was manufactured in?

    The wife and I were at a dealer yesterday in the St. Louis area and they were going to sell us a Honda at MSRP. But, they also were forcing us to buy several optional accessories (Cargo Tray, Cross Bars, Door Edge Guards, Splash Guards, Wood Grain Trim Kit, and Pinstripe).

    They were going to charge us $1400 for these options. And they told us we had to take the options even though our van won't even be built until December.

    I looked up the prices for these accessories on the internet and they can be ordered for a total of $372.80 (plus shipping). Of course I didn't get a price on the pinstripe, but I can't imagine the pinstripe is much more than $100.

    So, if we round it off to $500 that means they are making $900 on these options that I don't even want. Anyone else run into this sort of practice from a Honda dealer?

    To me this is akin to price gouging. In fact, I may draft a letter to the Missouri Attornal General with a complaint. And isn't the fact that all Honda Dealers in the St. Louis area sell Odysseys at Sticker without negotiation considered price fixing?

    We should start seeing the new 2002's from the Alabama plant within a month or so. American cars should start with the VIN 1, Canadian cars VIN 2

    For example, todayI delivered a EXL/RES and the VIN is 2HKRL180........ I also delivered a Civic today its VIN is 1HGES165......

    Hope this helps

    Jerry,

    I was told yesterday when I ordered an Odyssey that the Alabama plant wouldn't be up and running until the spring.

    Hi everyone, I'm new here. This is a very infomative board. It's great. I have some questions, if anyone can help. I've been researching the Odyessy for about two months and I come here every few days to see whats new on the prices people are paying. Ive gotten a few offers for at MSRP from area dealers. Is any one doing better than MSRP in the NY area or getting at MSRP offers? Details would be much appreciated either way asap. I might order tomorrow afternoon.
    Thanks

    they all want at least msrp...just go for it..it's still the best buy out there
  • ojcojc Member Posts: 31
    Still, an MSRP deal means that YOU decide the options otherwise pay the MSRP only without add-ons. Go elsewhere, you are getting ripped off if you are being forced to buy these options.

    Hi all,
    I live in Jacksonville,FL and all dealers here are getting from $1,000 to $4,000 OVER MSRP...why anyone would pay this is beyond me? Anyway, I'm waiting for mine that I will be getting for MRSP, (but not a dollar less), and probably not until the first of the year because of the wait from so many getting them there...from a dealer about 70 miles from here.
    Good luck getting anyone to let you have one for less than that. I think you could before there was such a demand, but those days seem to be over. I'm also holding out that maybe Honda will offer 0% financing by next year, however doubtful.

    I went to PS Honda and North Shore Honda in Long Island last week. Both offered me MSRP for an EXL-RES. They said I should expect to wait about two and months for delivery.
  • jnash2jnash2 Member Posts: 31
    Thanks for the replies people. I didn't go to the dealer today because their trade in appraiser wasn't in. I have to go next Saturday. Hopefully they will give me the fair price for my car and not try to steal it for 1 or 2 thousand bucs less like 3 other dealers wanted to.
  • jnatsujnatsu Member Posts: 4
    I paid msrp at Staten Island Honda approximately two weeks ago. I refused to pay a dime more. When I was shopping some dealers tried to push accessories on me. I laughed at them and left. I already have and will continue to purchase my accessories online. Hondapartsforyou.com and handaccessories.com are good places to shop.
  • jnash2jnash2 Member Posts: 31
    I passed that dealer a few times, but never went in. How long is your wait supposed to be and did you trade in?
  • nitro3nitro3 Member Posts: 3
    Can anyone tell me how UBS works and where I would find information on the web ?
  • tom477tom477 Member Posts: 42
    there's a real LOOOOONNNNGGGGG wait at UBS..about a year to 15 months to save 2500.00 ...if you can get the 7yr/100k warranty thrown in and you pay msrp then UBS isnt worth the wait..the warranty is worth about 1000.00

    Nancy,

    I read your post regarding prices being much higher than MSRP in Jacksonville FL. I have been frustrated at this trend which prevents me from buying a vehicle of my choice. Any help in locating a more reasonably priced dealership would be appreciated. I am willing to wait a few months for the delivery if necessary.

    The Alabama plant is up and running now. They are just starting the line and last month producesd a planned 150 vehicles. Their production will increase while the Canadian production will decrease. This plant being at full capacity wont happen for a while, at least til spring/summer 02. The overall numbers of Odysseys should increase somewhat, defnately not like the DC or Ford product, but it really gives Honda a larger manufacturing base for the MDX and the new Honda off shoot of that car.

    I wouldn't worry about whether you would be getting a lemon or not. Honda will make sure that they product delivered is up to snuff.

    There is a used '01 Silver EX with 8,200 miles in the local paper for $24,900. When I go to Kelly Blue Book onlione, it says there isn't enough data on used '01 Odyssey's to provide a retail/or trade-in price. I called the guy and he is selling because he got a new job with a company car - it has the CD/Cassete upgrade and cargo liner. But I don't know where to find out if this is fair price. Any suggestions? Thanks.
  • kalajiankalajian Member Posts: 43
    NADAguides.com lists the average trade in for a 2000 EX Ody with 8,200 miles as 23,325, with a retail price of $26475. Seems like $24,900 for a 2001 EX would be a good price. Car has very low miles, warranty for another 26,000 miles, plus NO WAITING. Retail list on that car was around $26,840. They retain their value and finding a used one is not easy, regardless of the price. Check out what they are selling for on autotrader.com also.

    Hello,

    Tomorrow, I pick up my EX-RES. I bought it at Nardy Honda in Smithtown.
    Nardy has been pleasant to deal with, and refreshingly honest. I paid MSRP
    and I didn't have to buy anything extra (unlike some other dealers, that quote
    MSRP, but make you buy pinstriping and other nonsense). I ordered the
    van in early September and I was told 2 months. Nardy even arranged for
    good financing (6.95% for up to 60 months).

    For me a year wait for the $ saved is worth it. That way I can save more $ while waiting and that is less I will have to borrow when it does come in. I need help on a few things though, like color ordering. Anyone that wants more info or can give more info on this Ubs please e-mail me or post here. glance@usairways.com. I have thier web address.

    Minivans are not known for holding up values. How many of us here would spend more than 10K for a used minivan with 100K miles, even if it is a Honda/toyota? Very few I guess. As we know, it takes only seven/eight years to meet the 100K milestones. If you spend up 30K for a minivan and end up selling it for less than 10 K after seven years, it will be 3 K depreciation every year.
  • recareca Member Posts: 7
    If I can get $2.5K off the sticker price. Also, you might get new options and new upgrades. :-). Unilab not only paid less but also got more HP and side airbags.
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
    I'd jump at that price myself.

    As far as minivans not holding value, I would check on any Odyssey. We are now in year 4 of production and getting one at MSRP is considered a good deal. My dealer in NJ sold a 99 with 25,000 miles on it in a day last month at what had been MSRP in 99. Yes you can get a used 99 Windstar, Caravan, etc at a much lower price. What's the point? There are minivans and then there are minivans. Odyssey holds its value and doesn't show real signs of stopping. If that's what you want, that's what they go for.

    I am surprised that there are people who are willing to pay thousands more than MSRP and there are suckers (opps, i meant dealers) who are willing to ask more on a Minivan. Don't deal with the dealers that ask more than MSRP. I suggest black list those guys who are willing to rob you to make more than fair share of profit already provided by manfucaturer in MSRP. No service or future sale business to them ever - tell all your friends and relatives to keep away from those suckers.

    A Minivan is just a family hauler, not a fancy custom designed limited edition must have sports car. Odyssey is a fine vehicle - reliable (like Toyota) and spacious (but unlike Toyota), but kind of very boring to look at. Reminds of a big hiking shoe box on four wheels (that is a personal opinion so no debate).

    I have a loaded 1999 GC sports, and is very satisfied till now, kids like it, drives great and sound of infinity stereo is awesome. It does the job for which it was baught thank fully with no problems till now (touchwood!). It was baught at much lower cost than a Honda so it will be sold at somewhat lower price at the end of its life with me so no big deal. As I already have Accord, buying yet another Honda was somewhat out of question more so my son didn't like Odyssey looks, and there was a wait list, and Toyota didn't have luggage space and was expensive.

    In short, don't pay premiun - its not worth it. I can't believe people will wait for years or drive miles to pick up an appliance of a family vehicle. Look at alternatives, and like thousands of other families with Minivans other than Honda, you are likely to be greatly satisfied.

    Hello All,

    I just picked up my GG EX 2002 today,10/30/01 in Dallas.
    Here are the details.

    $26,690.00 MSRP-$500
    $ 1,668.12 Sales Tax (6.25%)
    $ 57.35 Vehicle Inventory Tax
    $ 69.80 License Fee
    $ 13.00 Title Fee
    $ 21.75 State Inspection Fee
    $ 50.00 Documentation Fee
    $ 5.00 Transfer Fee
    ===========================
    $ 28,575.02 Out the Door

    All negotiation was done via email. Dealer did not try to
    pressure me with any kind of add-ons when I went to
    pick-up the car. He did try to offer me a 7yr/90K warranty
    for $810, which I declined. It took me 45 minutes to pick
    up my car and most of that time was me inspecting and
    test driving the vehicle. I ordered the vehicle on 10/09/01
    The most painless car transaction I have ever made.

    Has anyone found a dealer in the Northern Virginia/DC area selling at MSRP or below? I would appreciate the information. Did they deliver the van as promised?
  • lotus18lotus18 Member Posts: 37
    Are you sure that you have got $500 off MSRP? Why the tax (6.25%) of $26190 is not $1636.875 ?
    Your tax figure of $1668.12 is 6.25% of $26690.
    If you really paid $500 off MSRP, you drive out price should be $28075.02. Please check again.
  • romerromer Member Posts: 4
    Yes it is $500 off. My MSRP number includes the destination charge which everyone has to pay unless maybe you pick-up your car from
    the plant in Canada.

    MSRP ($26750) + Destination Charge ($440)=$27,190

    $27190-$500 off =$26690.

    6.25% of $26690 is 1668.12

    I think you'll find that most on this forum plan to keep their van for 10+ years. Because of DC's recent poor reliability, most of us wouldn't buy a DC van at any price. No other van has the same size and features as the Odyssey, AND it's a Honda!

    We purchased our '01 EX Ody at MSRP from Sam Swope Honda in Louisville, KY last Sept. We talked with Jeff Stewart and David Gerber. They were very nice, but dealership would not budge from MSRP even thought their motto is "No one walks away". Maybe we should have tried, but this was the 1st place we were able to see and test drive. We live in IN and had gone through Autobytel to locate a dealer. Supposedly because we came to them through Autobytel they included floor mats (which weren't standard at the time), pin striping, mud guards, wheel well & door trim (did not get door trim 'cause I wanted the colored, not black). Jeff and David were very pleasant. Haven't looked them up recently so not sure if they are still there. A friend of mine visited the Honda dealership in Clarksville, IN (about the same time we got our van) and they just happened to have the same exact van on the lot and it was not sold (!) until she came along. I couldn't believe we waited months and she found one that wasn't spoken for, but don't know what she paid. Good Luck!

    I live in Northern Virginia, but will drive 2 hours south to Petersburg in a couple weeks to pick up my '02 EX from Colonial Honda...build day is tomorrow!! MSRP, $99 doc fee, no add-ons.
    Was very satisfied when I lived down there and had my Accord serviced there regularly. Call Belinda at 1-800-564-9836...she's great or speak with Walt Smith, the sales manager; tell them sgreen sent you!....Let me know how you make out.

    "My dealer in NJ sold a 99 with 25,000 miles on it in a day last month at what had been MSRP in 99. "

    Are you sure? MSRP in 99 was only $800 less than MSRP in 2002. So, some guy would rather not to pay extra $800 to have a three-year-newer car with 25K less mileage, 35 more HP and side airbags?

    Playing with the TMV calculators on the Edmunds.com front page:

    1999 Honda Odyssey 4 Dr LX Passenger Van (w/ Captain's Chairs)
    Color: Light Brown (I presume this means "Mesa Beige")
    Mileage: 25,000
    Condition: Outstanding
    Dealer Retail (certified) $22,922

    2002 Honda Odyssey LX 4dr Minivan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)
    Color: Light Brown
    MSRP $24,690

    So, adjust for a tight market, maybe some options, and you could be at MSRP for a new one. Don't try this with other models :-)

    Now I can't guarantee that he got every penny because I wasn't going to even touch the neighborhood he was looking in. I had time to wait. I don't doubt for a minute that he came close. If it keeps up like this I might have to sell the thing every couple of years and buy new....

    Sheehy on rote 1 in Alexandria was willing to sell at MSRP once you tell them you won't pay for the $395 appearance pkg. I actually negotiated $400 under MSRP along with them waiving their $179 processing fee on a GG LX they had on their lot for a wk. They weren't happy with it but it was midweek during the day. I ultimately didn't buy it since we wanted a Silver. We wound up getting a Silver EX at MSRP with the crossbars and mudflaps included at no additional cost from College Park Honda in MD. They were not the nicest people but they were willing to throw in the crossbars and mudflaps for free and we got the van in a week. I had a big problem with their ad in the Washington Post and eventually had to speak to the GM there. They advertise $790 under MSRP for an EX but then they add options you don't want at exorbitant prices. That ad is in today and if you call them, they will tell you that you can't actually purchase the vehicle at that price without pay for dealing installed option which will then take the price over MSRP. Certainly seems like deceptive advertising to me. They will, however sell at MSRP, no questions asked.
    Ourisman in Bethesda MD will also sell at MSRP if you preorder, but you'll pay extra via options or pkgs if they have it on their lot.
    Pohank Honda in Marlow Heights Md was willing to waive their $695 appearance pkg with little effort. EVERYBODY else in the metro DC area had something added to take the cost above MSRP.
    Overall this was the most unpleasant new car purchase experience I ever had. This is a very good vehicle but for the dealers to act as though you should be grateful for them ALLOWING you to purchase one at MSRP is beyond me. I don't think I should feel priviliged to give a dealer a $3500 to $4000 profit on this vehicle. I was the one paying $27190 to buy a new vehicle and all dealers were treating me like I was purchasing a 1985 Chevette with bad credit.
    Overall this is a very good vehicle, not the best vehicle of any kind, ever made, by anybody, at anytime, at any price!! But a very good vehicle. Take into account the very obnoxious dealers, and an unreasonably high profit for said obnoxious dealers and you have the ingredients for an unpleasant situation.
    Again, I am very happy with the vehicle, but the purchase experience left a lot to be desired.

    Lastly, the CD/stereo in this $27K vehicle is VERY weak!

    I just had a new EX-L from Columbus, Ohio at $800 below MSRP. From most dealers I have talked to, $500 below MSRP is standard. Yes, most vans are not available immediately, but you are probably still able to get it later this month by either putting your name down with a dealer or some earlier order canceled.

    Anyway, $500 below MSRP is minimum in Ohio. Good luck!

    just wanted to post my purchase price. took about 8 weeks to get my requested car, a green ex with leather and dvd entertainment. dealer found another dealer with this allocation, and swapped allocations, perhaps getting it a little quicker.

    sticker 30190
    platinum plus 99.50 (some bs service thing)
    sales tax 1060.13 (alabama)
    title 16.50

    out the door for 31366.13.

    my salesperson would not move off of sticker, but did throw in accent striping, carpeted mats, a nice sturdy vinyl liner for the rear well, and underbody treatment for free (i didn't ask for any of it, she just did it on her own). seemed more than fair!

    i got it from Jane Cobb at Townsend Honda, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

    Any recommendations for a Southern California dealer selling at MSRP or less? Every dealer I have gone to still wants $2,000-$2,500 above sticker.

    Also, does anyone know about the "paint problems" with the Havasu Blue expected to come out on the new 2002? I know they changed a few colors for 2002. Is it a bad idea to buy a new paint color the first year it comes out????
