I just purchased a 74 Dart Scoop and will see how it goes on the 300M. I do not have a picture of it yet, but if you have the Motor Trend, June issue on page 18 (Grand Prix) will give you a very good idea of what it will look like. It is the scoop I always liked, plus, it is Mopar. My 69 mustang scoop can be put on in a minute if I choose to go that route again.

I also do not like it, & have emailed her already. Also include which boards, & posts on other boards taht are not deleted & are not so strict.

WHERE OH WHERE IS THE 300M CLUB MESSAGE BOARD!!!

awwwww guys, i'm so sad :(

well eveyrone was alright, so its all good. just something you get on your hands and knees to wetsand and then DPX801 adhesive, then wetsand down fine and.....:(

lol, ok anywayz....car should be towed down here, i'll get to workin on it immediately, and i'll have pics throught the process, for you guys who haven't had the unfortunate experience (and i hope you never do), but you can see *almost* first hand how we do some magic and fixxer upper...
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
i can start doing the hoods pretty soon here, beginning of next month, thing is, it is gonna be a hella lot harder. unless a few of you guys are close to me, which most are not, you have to mail me the hood, no problem there, i'll get teh work done, and mail it back. the labor will be around 500, plus 300 to make the scoop. like i was tellin phases in tennesee, about $800. now shipping is gonna be rough, your lookin at 200 each way. and i am still willing to do it, but see this is a fiberglass piece on a metal hood, its subjected to air, a lot of it. and sometimes, not always, but it happened to me the first time i got it done, the paint started bubbling. so i had to repaint. right now everything is good and gold, but i've had to repaint the hood 4 times. now if this is the case with some of your hoods, which it will be trust me this stuff isn't easy, then you gyus gotta either live with it, or send it back to me and i will repaint. i cover all this under warranty, but again...shipping is gonna be expensive, 400-500 to get it to me and back. so your choice fellas.....but i'm open for it...

Hey Man, I hope you're the last of the 300M crunch stories for a while. Phases was the first and you're the last of the recent disaster thread. Maybe it was something about that Tennessee get together.

This should give you some new ideas. How about louvers on the quarter panels?? '57 Caddy fins?? Now there's a set of tail lights for you to think about!!

BTW, are you going to the Wall Rendezvous? You're a shoe in for the "Most Custom" trophy!
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Avalanche, boy all I can say is Amen to that. The paint seems to dry fast, but One small mistake in handling, and you easly can screw it up big time.
Sorry to hear about you car, glad to hear about your new shop.

Installed the GR8WHT 68mm TB and air tube intake system this weekend. Pretty much a piece of cake once you get the cowl and strut cap off. My engine malfunction light came on and stayed on when I first started it. Disconnected the battery for an hour to reset everything and no malfunction light now.

It's wet and slippery here right now, so no chance to test it yet. I'm not gonna join the crunched 300M Club for a while!!
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
yea mike, its can get fugly, i mean it still looks good and all, but its like a domino effect, before you know it the whole scoop will be bare bones. it bubbles, then cracks, then peels, then, all hell brakes loose....get it BRAKES loose, instead if breaks, muhahahahahah. i gotta stop with this french vanilla in the mornings.....

that is where i'm worried. this is all under warranty, 5 yr paint, 1 yr body work, i think we are changing the body work warranty, cuz all these hondas who get their body kits molded on, and that stuff has 1% chance of actually staying. plastic to metal is not good! but they keep coming back, and we fix it, happens again, fix it, happens again. after awhile you get tired of them and the fact that your losing a lot of money redoing it. so we are gonna change that but thats about it. the best is when ppl get in an accident, and they get like 1500 bucks, instead of fixing this and that, they get suicide doors, or a hood scoop, tailights, etc...so then when insurance calls, and wants to see the car, they're like, WTF! and then it comes back to us, the body shop, even though we didn't even know insurance was involved or that he had a check. anywayz...back to the hoods, we can do it, but its just shipping that hood back and all that....mad money

Okay Mike, if I like the show(and I know I will since you and DenverM said it is great) I owe you a box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts. (*_O)

Now the Voodoo lounge worries me. After a few of those Voodoo drinks I hope I do not go Batman and try to fly down those 52 stories!

Speaking of Voodoo, I think that one of those jealous Lincoln LS owners is a Witch doctor! With all the fighting on the M vs LS vs Aurora board someone here must have rubbed a LS owner the wrong way and thus he/she must have use the black magic on M owners. This is the only way to explain the wrecked M's here lately!

Now whoever is rattling the cages on the other boards, please stop before my M is next!

On a serious note: Av sorry to her about your M!

Whoa! I thought these puppies would be hard to steal given the fact (fiction?) that the computer requires the key with the chip in it to function at all. What's up with that??

    Oh..we're number one in posting...by a multiple of 4! whoohoo. :)

They have some drink up there with the word "Zombie" in it (don't remember the exact name). Imagine a fish bowl full of booze and dry ice and about 8 straws...smoking like a witch's caldron! If you have one, stay away from the edge!

Actually, the wall/railing is about chest height, so unless you're hell bent on doing yourself in you're not going over. :) Make sure you go there though, I wouldn't steer you wrong. Go pretty early (maybe right around dark), after 9 or 10 a line forms, a serious cover charge kicks in, and the dress code ratchets up about $200. The glass elevator ride is almost worth the price of admission. :)

Roger - I'm dying to hear your opinion of the intake mod. I'm also hoping you took pictures of the process so others can follow along just like a paint-by-numbers. :)

Curious I have a 2001 300M and i have noticed that i seem to be getting around 280Miles per tank while driving Interstate/City. I also notice that i am only putting in a little less then 15Gallons of Gas. Is this normal mileage.

Also, I am using the DTE Computer to tell me when to put gas in the car. The car is supposed to have a 17Gallon Tank. So is there just a two-gallon reserve in the tank?
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I do not think that report is valid. It is for 97-99 models. 99 is the first model year, so that makes no sense.
  • aj_tomasiaj_tomasi Member Posts: 38
I'm not really interested in any Hood Scoops, but I remember you were interested in Clear Tail-lights. Is that something you could fab?

Also how does this body work affect your plans to invest in the ProwlerPro gears?

I know some of you see the PP gears as something that will limit your autobahn speed and eat away at your gas milage.

Here's something that you could do and that Chrysler did for the 300m Special concept car that might not run you an arm and a leg. Go to your friendly Chrysler dealership or one of those places online and order the gear set from the 2.7 Chrylser Concorde or 2.7 Dodge Intrepid. They use the same transmission so the gears fit perfectly. I also think the 2002.5 Special Edition might use these gears if it's the same as the concept.

You won't get the same performance as the PP gears, but it will make your car more fun to drive without punching a hole in your pocket book.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
Alas, I took no pictures during the installation. The instructions provided with the kit are pretty good. The things that would be aided by pics are almost inaccessible to a camera anyway.

I'll let you know as soon as it gets dry enough to make some G-Tech Pro test runs.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
The final drive ratio for the 300M is 3.66, and for the 2.7 LH cars it's 3.89. Looks about 1/2 way between the stock and Prowler Pro gears for a fraction of the price. I wonder if a 5* would do the swap, and if so, what would they do about the speedo/odo problems.

Dose anyone have a picture of the black cover Otto mentioned about 30 posts back ?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
What did you pay for the kit and what did it include?
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
Otto was talking about the black plastic shroud across the front of the car. We 99' and 00' owners have this but 01's don't. Here's what it looks like:

getting a dealer to swap gears! Mine wouldn't even do the TB swap for me. I didn't have the time to do it, & the dealer said is it broke, I said no it is just a modified TB, they said NO WAY! I tried to get them to replace the plugs they again said NO WAY! I guess my dealer is just a if it's broke we'll fix it, if it isn't go home type.:)
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
My dealer didn't have any issue with putting the Bosch plugs in, but the gears and TB might be another issue. Time to find a good local garage.
  • aj_tomasiaj_tomasi Member Posts: 38
Hey now, don't worry about a 5* doing the work. Some will and some won't. It all depends on if that dealer is geared towards performance. Something about 98% of Chrysler & Dodge dealers aren't. Look around town for a speed shop that works on local racers. Everytown in America has either an underground race club or a drag strip club.

Here in Texas we have Autocross which is legal to some extent! BTW the 300m is a great car for Autocross! Just have to replace your tires every so often!

Hello, everyone. We just returned from a week in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampster. Took the wife, 2 kids and all that goes with a family vacation in my '99 Platinum 300M. Drove just over 600 miles, combination of highway (topped out at 90, nervous wife)and local, back road and mountain road driving. Averaged 25.3mpg per the computer. Also, paid $1.30/gallon for 87 gas in N. Conway!!!
My M has developed an annoying buzz/rattle over rough pavement on my drivers door. I'll have it checked out at the 30k service. Other than that, my M continues to please me in many ways. My wife couldn't believe that the trunk swallowed all our stuff! So smooth at 90+.....
I haven't had internet access at home for two weeks as a very tall tree in our front yard got zapped by lightning. Also took out a garage door opener, overhead lights and my modem!!! Too many posts to catch up on here at work, but to all who have had accidents, hopefully no one was injured and your M's will be better than new...
Also, while in Vegas, don't forget to check out the Imperial Palace auto collection. It's free, the cars are cool and many are for sale. I was hoping to win enough playing blackjack to buy a '67 Mercedes, but came up about 99% short of my goal! Now, there's a surprise... I also went to Mohegan Sun yesterday. Lost all my $$$ before I knew what happened!
    Back to work :-(

'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)

  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I tired that route too with the TB. Basically if I didn't have a honda to supe up, or an 8cyl engine, they would not touch it, or charge me an outrages rate. I was quoted from one place at $150/hour labor! For the gears, if I get them, I'll instll them myself. I'm sure I can do it.

I believe that the trip computer is overly conservative. I rarely pump more than 15 gallons in mine, even though the computer says I've got 10 miles to empty.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I just heard a loud crash in the parking lot outside my window (not unusual to see fender benders) and turned around to see a industrial garbage dumpster sitting on the hood of a lowered Civic! LOL. Looks like the civic hit the side of the garbage lift truck (picking up the dumpster) which caused the dumpster to fall. Nobody's hurt, but that poor car! LOL.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
fastdriver - that car looked quite cool

all - got my first ding, after more than 2.5 years without a single one. I had to park in a pretty tight spot at a local McDonald's. Then a few minutes later this bimbo came out and walked over to her RAV-4 that was parked next to my M. I thought "maybe she will be careful". She wasn't. I saw her door bounce back off my M. Being a nice guy, I did not run out and kick her in the head. I wish I did. After all, what can I do? Kill her?

cost savings - I like the black cover under the hood. The fact that they are removing it will make me think twice about getting another 300M. Not that I can't live without one, but out of principle. Since the car came out, Chrysler has only made few improvements. And now they are starting to decontent it!

Otto, please tell your management this:
Nissan Maxima - nothing but improvements for the last few years. And even though there will be a complete platform redesign in 2003, they are still making it better - 260HP, HIDs, memory.

Acura TL - improvement after improvement since this design came out in '99. There are rumors that there will be a completely new design in 2003 as well, but it does not stop them from adding significant new features like 260HP, memory seats, stability control.

What has Chrysler done for me recently other than higher MSRP and lower residual value?

Removal of equipment shows that they don't care about attracting more customers, they simply want to get more cash in their pockets.

You should have at least verbally accosted that "bimbo" (your words)! Now that fool will go through life thinking she can do that to everybody without penalty.

It was a neat looking car! Sorry your car got dinged after all this time. I would have definitely jumped up and ran outside with a few choice words!

Photopoint may be dead right now, but I found a NEW site where I can do my Zaino pics in MOVIES! Best of all, it's FREE! The main site is http://www.cartogra.com

Here is the movie I just made. Not as good as the one I first made at photopoint, but it'll do. Click here

You have to remember that DC has been cost cutting. They have no headroom to make a car better, when in 2 years they are going to move platforms. The are not even makeing the PT better. Same little 4 banger for 2002. Maybe an engine upgrade(Turbo) in 2003, but no manual for it. No major inprovments in any of DC cars untill 2003/2004. I think after 2004 DC will catch up. Question is will it be too late??

My wife's MB lease is coming due in October and we are seriously considering a 300-M as her new wheels. Just got back from vacation which we rented a 300-M and were very excited about (even with 8,000 rental miles on it before we began). Part of the vacation was spent at the "Old Cars Magazine Car Show" in Wisconsin. Got to see many great looking previous generation 300's...

After 800 miles I have a couple of questions...

    1) Is Michelin the only OEM brand?? Loved the feel after experimenting with the pressures...

    2) Found the tilt down feature on the exterior mirrors agrevating..are they standard equipment and if so, can they be disabled?

    3) Have been following the 2002 Special story with great interest....is there a job one date that has been set yet??? MSRP???

    4) We average nearly 25 MPG (based on miles and gallons not the computer)....is this typical?? Seeing as how we get 15-16 on the MB we were very pleased!

    Thanks in advance!

is finally back for me, too.
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
This morning I waited until after a garbage truck lumbered around the corner in front of me before I went into & down the street. As I did this, the truck slammed on his brakes and threw it into reverse. I had to accelerate to not get hit; he slammed on his brakes. I wasn't expecting him to decide to go backwards, certainly not in so fast a maneuver, and I have no idea why it would want to go, backwards, down the street.

I don't know if I am the expert for answering your questions for the 300M but here goes. The michelins are standard tires for the 2001M, you can easily turn off the mirrors from the overhead console. I had problems with it at first but it grew on me. I cannot speak about the special but my dealer indicates that it may not have all the goodies that I read about here, especially here in Canada, but I have nothing to base it on. You might be better to get a deal on a new 01 instead of the 02 as I understand there are very few new features on the 02. Hope this helps.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Like mikeyjohn said, the Michelins are standard on the '01. Prior to '01 only the Ms with the performance handling group got them. Others got Goodyears that have a spotty reputation. The non-PHG '01 has Michelin P225/55R17-95S tires, and the PHG has P225/55R17-95V (V-rated).

The "Luxury Group" includes the tilt down mirrors and the computer console to turn them off if you want. It also includes an electrochromic driver side mirror that dims when hit with bright lights from behind, plus some other goodies.

Mileage seems to vary greatly in this group. I've never averaged over 20mpg for a tank full, and I don't drive very hard (at least very often). Others claim to get 25+ pretty consistenly. I live in a hilly area and that might have something to do with it. It takes a lot to push the M up a hill from a standing start. :)
