I also got a ding recently but didnt see it happen---technically, if they hit your car with their door, they should be responsible for its repair---the going rate for one of these Dent Doctor companies to fix a small ding is $75 to $100--that is --if the paint isnt broken. Has anyone ever threatened someone who dinged their car with filing a claim unless they paid for the repair of the ding? I think if you hit someone's newer car with your door you should be held responsible. What do you guys think?

I couldn't have said it better. I also really like the dimming feature on the rear view and mirrors.

I also note that nobody talks about the Homelink module on the car. My car not only opens the garage door but it also turns on or off my security system. If anyone is interested in this feature, try to locate an Interactive Technologies Inc. or Interlogics dealer. I am in the security business here in Canada and I sell this product.ITI is made in the USA.

I can attest that from my earliest owned automobile -- a 1978 Pontiac Grand Prix 2-door, and my 1985 Mercury Grand Marquis 2-door, I always took care of not hitting anyone's door when opening mine -- and those were tough doors to handle!

And of course the obligatory story to go along with this:

I was walking back from my tour of the Hoover Dam to my car. I noticed the lady on the passenger side opened her door with such force to my drivers door the car visibly rocked. Luckily I was in 'chin' range of the remote control and pressed the panic button -- to set off the alarm and watch her jump three feet into the air.

I ran back to my car screaming to bloody heck about the ding damage (and there was some, along with white paint transfer on the slate door). She swore up and down that she didn't do it. Of course, where else was I going to get fresh white paint and a door ding, but from a white Honda and a careless lady?

Her husband finally 'settled out of court' in the parking lot for $150, all while my horn was honking and my friend was there with the camcorder. He was satisfied with my forensic evidence of opening the door and showing him where it happened. It also helped he had black paint on his door from my car.

And thats why I like to sit near a window to see my car...

If a person hits and damages your car they are liable and are responsible for damages. Absent mitigating circumstances - that is the law.

You probably already knew this, but the three "homelink" buttons are programmable to a garage door opener without needing the homelink system. For garage door openers that don't change frequency it's a matter of using the garage remote to program your homelink button. For more modern garage door openers that frequency jump (like mine), you have to essentially program the garage door opener to recognize your car. Garage door openers like that hvae a "learn" button that facilitates this. I remember having 10 seconds or something to jump off the ladder and push the car control button. lol. It's all in the manual if I remember correctly.

Ya know what mikeyjohn, I like the dimming feature but I don't like the color they chose! That bluish color is annoying to me for some reason. Now that I've got tinted windows I've been keeping the auto-dim off.

So sorry to hear about your accident and all the others on this board (including my own "senior moment"). The M does have its share of blind spots, but I have no excuse. I hope the repairs go well, and I am glad you weren't injured.

    mikeyjohn-

Those Homelink "extra" buttons can perform a host of functions IN your house, if you have some additional modules. I have been using the X-10 technology for YEARS now to control things inside and outside my house. Check out these two sites:

I agree the M does have blind spots--especially if you dont adjust the side mirrors just right---the are not big enough to give a proper view of cars beside your car---you have to adjust them quite a bit outward to get a proper view--unlike most other cars where you want to be able to see a small portion of the side of your car. I almost had a couple of accidents when I first bought my car when after looking in the mirror and not seeing anyone I proceeded to move into the lane to my left---you almost have to look over your shoulder to be sure no one is there--

My tire incident is almost solved. They gave me a partial credit accounting for wear. I had over 20k on the tire and they are charging me only $50 with mounting and balancing. My other front tire has the shake problem and I believe it is in proper balance. Could be a belt problem or runnout problem. They told me I have to take it to one of their other locations for a runout test.

We are still number one on Edumunds by a wide margin. Sure says something about how much we love our M's.

My mirrors have a green glow to it, similar to the IR scopes we used to have in the military.

I am very aware of the x-10 capabilities of the homelink, and all I was stating that only ITI will control your security system, which will protect your M or any car with Homelink. It also will make your security system instant rather than having to punch in numbers on your keypad. It's really a great system or concept. I have put in quite a few and customers love it.

yeh looks like its made for the M--whats another 1700 big ones--boy with those prowler gears and turbo and with your duals and cone filter, you're all set to race at the track. Maybe you can go pro and start racing professionally. That M would look pretty cool on the track. You ARE going to New Jersy arent you for the the speed track M meet? Congrats on buying into the body shop biz. "Avalanche's Body and Custom Shop"--that would be a good name for your new biz--your car would look great sitting outside the front door.

I've got one ding, which I didn't even know was there until I Zaino'd (the only downside of this product I've heard of!). Guess I need to get to a Dent Doctor. As for liability, there could be a number of factors. Who parked first? If another car is parked in the center of a parking spot and you pull in and crowd that car, it seems to me you can hardly complain if they can't get into their car without making contact. On the other hand, if you're there first and in the center of your parking spot, the next car that pulls in has the responsibility to park in such a way that they can get out of their car without inflicting damage on yours. If I knew that someone dented my car under those circumstances, I'd ask 'em to pay.

how important is it to mount a replacement tire in the exact same position on the rim--I heard the rim and the tire have a high and low spot and you have to mount them taking this into consideration---anyone here a pro on tire mounting--
  • aj_tomasiaj_tomasi Member Posts: 38
You can basicly put a turbo on any vehicle, the only problem is that you have to fabricate everything for it and plus you have to monkey with your fuel system and oil delivery so that the Turbo gets lubed up. With your hood scoop you might be able to fit one in.

Here's Mo Info on HKS Turbos

easy: customauto trims peices did not fit perfectly (a couple of them) and they were real late in delivery, but cheaper, joshua trees are good so far, neither match PERFECTLY. they're design matchs well but becuase of the protective layer on top (i assume) the wood kit is A BIT browner tint to it. but, hardly noticable, in fact, noone has noticed yet, most ppl think my car came this way

av: my god man!!!!! im so sorry!!!! but sounds like your okay and you can fix it. whats with this company deal? outstanding... also, how much hp will those two turbos (reg and the GT one ) add to your car? better be alot for that much money, otherwise, no deal for me. good gain? ill do it.
  • aj_tomasiaj_tomasi Member Posts: 38
Turbos can give you any where from 35 - 55% more power

Wonder how today went with the 2002 model start-up? Is anyone on this board planning on replacing their current M with a new 02? After reading a lot here about the Special, I really don't think it will be all that great of a car. I'd rather have a regular, slightly modified M myself. Most of all, I don't think the Special's gray plastic ground effects or it's really ugly wheels are very attractive at all.

Lately, with the nice weather, we have been driving with wither the windows open or the AC on. Consiquently, in addition to the rattles, the wife is now complaining that the stock exhaust is starting to sound too loud!! I guess duals are completely out of the question as she already thinks of the three muffler, restrictive exhaust as too noisy!

P.S., To me, it doesn't sound any different than when it was new. I think she's going nuts (but that's just between us!).

I was just reading the 300M review page on car review .com and I see a woman from Gracey Ky
complaining about the 99 300M and the problems she has been having with it. She states that her car is stuck in 2nd gear and she will need a new transmission. I do believe that a lot of you guys have had the same problem, and it was a module that needed replacing. I cannot find a link to contact this woman to pass on what I have learned here. If anybody lives in or near Gracey Kentucky, maybe we can help this person as she is very down on the product.

I am starting to sound like an Acura lover. I am not. However Acura is making a lot of TL Type-Ses.

check http://www.dealernet.com, do an inventory search for a new TL.

Why did Chrysler decide to only make a limited number of 300M Specials?

  • stevenw300stevenw300 Member Posts: 90
Is there a picture of the Special available? If so could you let me know where?

all you have to do is click on her name to email her. i just did. told her what the prob was with her M, and invited her to come here and explain everything, so we could help with what we could....

Unfortunately, I've only ever caught one person red-handed dinging a car of mine, and that was my 8 year old daughter. Couldn't quite sue her, but I did give her my best "daddy's not happy" glare. Didn't seem to phase her at all.

I seem to have a knack for getting a ding within a day of getting a new car.

However, other than the first one on the M, I've avoided getting any other dings for 14 months. My wife still can't understand why I still park way out in the outer reaches of the mall parking lot when there are perfectly fine spots up close. It's alright, I can use the exercise.

I also have a Y2K silver m with all the options except the smokers pkg and PHP---do you notice a difference in color between the bumper cover and the body color--My bumper cover is noticeably darker than the body color--heard others here have noticed it on their M's as well---

Like the nice pics you guys posted---those pics will show the new visitors to this site (seeing the attention being the numer 1 site will bring) how great the M looks and what mods some of our members have done--hey av: how bout taking a better pic of your hood scoop and posting it here--leave the hoses out of the scene---

I agree scotian, there is not much to take a picture of when you install the tube, except after it is in. It was good for a tenth of a second by itself. I had already ground down the throttle body a few weeks before. I am waiting for my max performance tires to come in to do some real testing. I just hope they are at least as good as the friends Gforce tires it tested earler.

there is a site on edmunds called: "Why are american cars unappealing"--I think you should help stick up for American cars by posting a couple of pics of your M's on that site--show that what the best of american styling is all about: the link is too long--you can find the link on the top ten list at Town Halls main page

good info on the gears. I will have to check into them too. They sound a little better suited to my tastes.

anyone have a part number on these? thanks
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
    why I don't like Acura TL -

    - smaller interior
    - rear seats don't fold
    - smaller trunk
    - gooseneck trunk hinges
    - front passenger seat is not 8-way power (c'mon this is supposed to be a near luxury car)
    - can be expensive

but the 260HP with 5-speed auto transmission really sounds nice.

I will probably end up getting a Grand Prix GTP after all (which I do like a lot). If I can afford that. Damn Florida salaries are not high enough.

Thanks guy, I was trying to send her a message in the wrong spot, I hope she gets the message and will again be a happy camper. I feel she may being ripped off by her dealer because she is a woman. I like your pics. Is that a Zaino shine or just the way it is sitting?

thanks guy for all the congrats. i can't wait to really get my hands in. on paper its 51%, but in the shop i'm not the main guy, i do a lot of work, but Eric is the main guy. he's a hella lot more experienced, but i love this. we are gonna change the name, but something slick, not avalanche's 300m badass shop, lol. new image designs, freestyle studios, i don't know we'll see. anywayz.....remember, if u gyus need anything, including information, i'm here.....

    ruski-

I agree with you if those things are important to you. The interior is fine for me. I never folded down my rear seats on Christine. The trunk is quite sufficient for my needs on the CL. Not sure about the size on the TL trunk. My seat is 8-way. No one has complained about the lack of 8-way on the passenger side- YET. The seats are really comfortable and hold you. I do agree that the OLD FASHIONED gooseneck trunk hinges are ridiculous. What were they thinking? I know those things are important to you because you need the room for the twins. I don't.

The 260HP and the 5-speed are sweet. The car is faster then our Riv's were with the supercharged engines. I have never gotten less then 20MPG since day one and never less then 300 miles per tank. I didn't get these numbers with Christine except maybe two or three times on a trip to FL or North Conway, NH. Speaking of FL- I'll be down in about 10 days for 2 weeks. I'll be on the lookout for you and fuzzywuzzy on I-95! ;-))

WHY did you move to FL? You should have come to CT- highest per capita income in the US! Have you seen my cousin on I-95? He has that silver GTP Pace Car. He lives in Boca.

Drive safely. This board suddenly sounds like Christine has taken over some cars/drivers here! I'm just glad that everyone is okay. Cars can be fixed. People can't always be fixed.

Well they are rolling out. First big news , the 3.2 engine is gone the way of the doe doe. We now have two versions of the 3.5 a low output and a high output. Don't ask for H.P numbers cause I aint got any. From what I see they just put a plenum on the low output that has no tuning valve on it.Don't know if the engine controller software is different on both motors. If you order the lux package you get the tire pressure monitor system ,this is cool. There are a few more changes ,but none the regular owner would ever need to know about . Diffrent wire harness and some parts moved around .still nothing on the speacial .
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
you 'da man, as always. I already have a tire pressure monitoring system....my 6 year old son and a fun-to-use gauge. :). You let us know as soon as you see that first special coming down the line.

On the way home from my mothers this past sunday I had the opportunity to race a passat. The matchup wasn't even fair the poor guy in the passat had the 4cyl. version and not a v6. At one point he actually passed me because I was stuck behind slower moving traffic. He was going about 80 when the traffic cleared and I passed him like he was standing still. This car has so much power on tap at high speeds it's ridiculous. I went from 80 - 100/105 in what seemd like an instant. To think I actually was close to buying the passat over the 300. Man that would have been a mistake.
