It's a custom air intake that replaces everything between the air box and the throttle body with a wide open 3 inch tube (NO resonators). Just installed mine Sunday but haven't tested yet.

I also replaced the TB with a bored out (68mm) version, which is a part of the kit if you choose.

I probably don't have to ask, but - please let us know what you discover about the gears.

    Thanks

I stay away from 95. Tooooooo much traffic. I have seen a silver GT pace car in Boca wonder if it was him?

To all those who came to my aid in the "American Unappealing" section, Thank you! We are schooling those simple minds just like we did the LS folks.

On other subjects...add a Jaguar S-type to the list of cars smoked by a 300M on the street. That raises my tally to a Mustang (plain model), Lexis IS (yes true), Infinity Q45 (old version, the new one would crush us). Embarrassingly, the only loss I ever took was to a Crown Victoria (lost badly too), I suspect it must have been a Police Interceptor version. That is the only explanation I can offer.

Any news about the turbos at carparts.com ? Will they(it) fit 300M? Will it demage the tranny ?
    Please keep updating your project.

to see how hard the gears are to replace. It looks like you need a special tool (chain spreader #6550) I can easly make a substatute. I can't believe that say 3 hours to take off the cover bolts and 3 bolts and take off two snap rings. Then reverse the process.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Tell Chrysler to make a two speed chain drive for the 42LE That way we could switch between the Power pro gears and the stock depending on the circumstances. Great Idea. Huh. Just add a power or econo mode to the shifter knob.

Chrysler invites you to take an extraordinary test-drive without the pressure to buy!

Drive the popular PT Cruiser, the new Sebring lineup, and other extraordinary Chrysler vehicles at the Chrysler Proving Grounds. It's a free test-drive event that allows you to wind through a series of slalom turns and then pick up speed in a straight-line acceleration test. But, what's really exciting, this is not a sales event. There'll be no salespeople on-site. It's a simply a rare opportunity to drive some of the most innovative machines on the road.

The fun doesn't end on the course. After you've put the vehicles through their paces, there'll be interactive displays to enjoy, activities to participate in, and a full line of Chrysler vehicles to check out. Concept and historic Chrysler vehicles will be on-site, along with a golf range for you and putt-putt golf for the kids. A new PT Cruiser Tent will be set up this year. And, if all that isn't enough, you can drive the new Jeep Liberty at the Jeep 101 off-road course adjacent to the Chrysler Proving Grounds.

Chrysler Proving Grounds takes place August 16 to August 19 at Philadelphia Park. Sessions will be scheduled hourly from noon to 7pm on Thursday and Friday; 10am to 7pm on Saturday; and 10am to 5pm on Sunday. Choose the day and time that works best for you, and plan on making a two-hour time commitment. You must be 18 or older with a valid driver's license.

Space and time are limited. Call 1-888-TEST-CHRYSLER before August 10 to register.

Directions: Take the NJ Turnpike to Exit 6 (PA Turnpike). Follow west to Exit 28 (Philly, Route 1). On Route 1 South, proceed 1/8 mile to Street Road East (PA 132). Take Street Road for 2 miles to the track entrance (on the left). Follow the signs to event parking.

Where can I get one? Does it have a noticeable effect on acceleration and/or noise?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
When I lived in the Philly area, Philadelphia Park was a horse track. Unless they sold out and converted it, my guess is that DC has rented out the massive parking lot for the event.

the low restriction intake is made by Stephen Lister. You can email him at Stephenlister@yahoo.com. He was great to deal with. I have had it from him for a while but have not installed yet. Hopefully, I'll have some time over the weekend.

    sdmike2-

I love that pic that you keep posting. The palms and palm tree certainly add to it. I downloaded it to my desktop. I'm going to see, with my limited computer skills, if I can put my car into that scene! ;-))

    fuzzywuzzy-

    Here's a pic-

http://www.geocities.com/EnchantedForest/Kingdom/6593/car.html Could have been him. I forgot- you use the FL Tpk. That's close to me in Lake Worth. I'll be looking for that Silver beauty. I'll probably be in a Geo Metro!! LOL.... Be nice to me if some little puddle jumper toots at you! LOL...

    beach15-

I think you should go to that Chrysler event. Instead of YOU driving THEIR cars, I think you should let THEM drive YOURS!! Maybe they can provide some light into your rattles and squeaks. It couldn't hurt! ;-)) I can sympathize with you. My Christine didn't have any rattles or squeaks, but too many other annoying things for a new car back in June of 98.

Not sure if you saw when I posted this pic. As a big fan of Zaino and red cars I know you'd appreciate this one:

You don't know how I wish I lived closer! We're on opposite coasts! I'd love a drive in the mountains in our beauties. I'd even help you Z that Inferno Red BEAUTY!! ;-)) Let me go work on that pic. IF I have ANY success, I'll let you know.

I stay away from I-95 like plague. For my commute, I-75 and Florida Turnpike a better anyway. Plus I have not even been going on I-75 that much. I take Route 27 instead. It is actually a very nice highway, but it runs on the edge of the everglades and is out of the way for most people, so there is less traffic. Good place to stretch M's legs. If you saw a few days ago a news segment about two trailer tractors colliding and burning on a Florida highway - that's 27.

everyone - I have gotten 30K miles on my M. No problems. Time to take it for a scheduled service. How much should a 30K service cost?
  • aj_tomasiaj_tomasi Member Posts: 38
If your talking about the 30K tranny work, I got mine for $130 with my employee discount of 30%. Half the price was for some gasket they replace when they change the fluid.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
For the tranny service in FL, shop around at different dealers. Some charge full price(not sure how much that is) Other's have sales. My dealer is charging $99 for a complete flush with filter. Changing the diff lube should be included. Drive belt is just a simple ratchet adjustment, & should not need it(you could do it yourself) Plugs are not checked, the rest of the service is just air filter, rotate tires, & an oil change. The tranny service is not a specified 30K thing, but alot of people get it done anyway.( I do it every 15K) Injector flush is also not needed(I'm sure the dealer will plug this) & that's it.

As you all know I resently replaced my Badyears for a set of Michelins XGT Z4s. The XGT Z4 have a really agressive tread pattern to them. I read here that the 17" versions of the PHP came with V rated Michelins. I always thought that the PHP tires were Z rated.

What are the exact model of Michelins on the 17" PHP?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
My PHG Michelin Pilots are P225/55R17-95V
  • tucsongiltucsongil Member Posts: 116
Mike my tires are Pilot XGT Z4. 225/55/17

I am quessing that the PHG/P are Pilot HX MXM4 V rated? LMK. I just wondering?

    Thanx.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Yes, they're V-rated (to 150mph). Since the car won't do more than that (stock), that's all they needed to put on. Since the non-phg are limited to 118mph they don't need the V-rated or above.
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
nope, no zaino. not even a car wash. hehe
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
Ya Sure!!!!!!!!! I was at my dealer to-day and the Gen. Manager states that they also removed the Chrysler lettering on the 2002, leaving only the 300M decals, I may have to remove mine. Some of you guys have done it. Is it easy?
  • fastdriverfastdriver Member Posts: 2,273
    sdmike2-

Ah... three car seats won't work! I get it now. Guess you'll just have to wait for the "empty nest" syndrome. Then you can get what you want and not what's practical! ;-))

    ruski-

I hear you. I-95 down there is as bad or worse then it is here in So. CT! I avoid it also whenever I can too- in FL and CT. I tend to use the FL tpk. also despite the tolls. Didn't see that news story about the two trucks.

You think you're going to get another GTP? They are good looking. That was one that I test drove too. Pretty peppy also.

  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
According to mikeyjohn, they have removed the lettering on 2002's. Is this true, and if so, is there anything else you noticed that was changed? Where is the tire pressure monitro located?
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I am curious too---are your stock tires XMX or XGT---are they the same ones that came on the 2000 php M
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
    same wheels as the 01's?
  • tucsongiltucsongil Member Posts: 116
Mike, the only reason I ask about the PHP/G tires being the Pilot HX MXM4 V rated is because the reviewers on these tires on Tirerack were not too enthusiastic about them. I found this strange because whoever has these tires here, likes them. That is way I asked.

I do not think I will get the chance to hit 118 mph in my "M" for I have my family with me must of the time. So the top speed rating does not come into play for me. The cornering is what I wanted and got with the Z rated.

I am willing to guess that DC will put the Z rated Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 on the Special.

One last thought. I am not an Formula One fan, but the two tire lines competeing their are Bridgstone and Michelin. Firestone was beating up Goodyear at the CART level before Goodyear dropped out(two years ago) becuase of this. My point is, the once all mighty Goodyear racing tire seems to be a thing of the past. The Icon that was Goodyear Tire Co. is just a shadow of their past. That is sad!
  • toms99toms99 Member Posts: 252
Mike- In your parts list you mention "coils on spark plug torx bolts"....do these need to be changed when you change the plugs? also, what gap did you use? (gotta get the service manual!!)
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
goodyear is the only tire used in NASCAR. Want to know why? ask, what does money have to do with it, and you'll find your answer. has nothing to do with the performance of the rubber. i've found that if you really want to know why anything is like it is in life, just ask yourself what does money have to do with it and most likely you will find the answer.
  • lonestarsledlonestarsled Member Posts: 226
Speaking of service manuals, does anybody recall the URL for the place that sells the factory Chrysler service manuals?
  • sirharpersirharper Member Posts: 112
I get to welcome a fine new DC product to my collection! I custom ordered a Jeep Liberty about an hour ago. Wish me luck on my first SUV and lets just hope the wife doesn't hit my M in the garage with it.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
then I get on the road and go home and my M pulls ahead with such fervor and takes curves with such aplomb that I start thinking that I have to get another 300M next time :)

but PHP is hard to get here in FL.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
Don't, repeat don't walk into any dealer and ask them to perform the "30M service"! It's an invitation for larceny!
Look in your owner's manual, and see what Chrysler recommends for service at 30M. Ask the dealer to perforn just those services; thats all you need, and all required to keep up your warranty.
Resist the all-profit recommendations for "throttle body de-carboning" (how would carbon get into a throttle body?), "fuel injector cleaning", etc.
Also, ask for a price quote on the requested service.
    Caveat emptor!

My PHG tires ('01) are the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 size P225/55R17-95V. I'll have to read what the tire rack people are saying. Mine are moderately noisy, but I've never squeeled them around a turn.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
The letter removal is pretty easy. Took me about 15-20 minutes. Here are some pictures of the process.

If you can get those little stinkers out without stripping them you won't have to replace them. A couple people here who have done their own plugs had some difficulty with the torx screws and ended up having to replace some of them. Also, the Bosch Platinum +4 plugs come pre-gapped so you don't have to worry about them. You wouldn't be able to gap the buggers anyway. You'll see what I mean when you look at them. :)
