Wednesday, I left work and the outside temp on my M's thermometer started at 99 and peaked at 104 degrees. Twenty four hours later, as I leave work, it reads 67 degrees, peaking at 70! If you don't like the weather in NE, just wait a minute... I've found the thermometer to be fairly accurate when comparing to radio weather forecasts.
About to turn 26,000 miles. The two DC dealers I've used do not offer loaners, although the one nearest to work does have a shuttle to my workplace but I'm on my own for the return trip.

'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)

One wonders what kind of sadist designed that system!

Are the input signals going into the factory amp considered "line level," and can therefore be fed into the Basslink's RCA inputs, or do even these signals require a line converter?
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
Yes my speedo is off a little, but the gtech doesnt depend on the speedo to determine speed. On the website they explain how it does this: http://www.gtechpro.com/how.html

Supposedly accurate to within 1/10 of a second.

The smaller tires (1" overall) probably have some sort of a gearing effect which allows me to accelerate faster ? sound right ?

  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I forgot who asked. My experience has been it is correct. What happens is teh auto sensore detect heat, humidity, & light. If the out side temp is say 69. Your auto setting is at 75, & it is sunny, & it is humid, it will still blow cold air. Even the temp gauge in the car is a little off, which will through the cars auto setting off too. I would think it's normal. Mine does this,& my co-workers lexus acts the same way.
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
Definately let me know how the Borla goes... I will be taking more measurements after the borla, and whatever intake I end up with... If I can get around 6 seconds I will stop. If not prowlerpro gears will be on order. I need a little surprise for all these little import guys.

If my gas tank says empty why I am consistantly only able to get 14 gallons in my tank? Think it might be off?
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
Hey man you better be careful you could have hurt someone throwing that gtech out the window at 150mph :)
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
Right the accelerometer thing. But do you stop accerlerating when you hit 60, or do you wait for the Gtech to stop. That's how I know mine was not working right. I would get to 60, & the gtech would keep timming. I also had the same size tires on my M for a few months. Had nothing but pulling/vibration problems(long story)Now with the 18's my M rides alot better then ever.

Has anyone else had a problem with their Xenon (the ones from midnightmoose )H3 bulbs burning out ? My left one went a month and a half after I got em, and a couple of months later my right one went... Hope my headlight bulbs dont do the same, that install was a pain in the [non-permissible content removed]
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
I keep accelerating until the gtech flashes the 0-60 time, if I have the room I'll finish the 1/4 mile time as well... I notice I have to go a little past 60 on my speedometer for the gtech to stop counting... which makes sense because of the tires.

I had a pulling problem with my stock Badyears, I switched to the Bridgestones and everything was straight and very smooth... a week later I added the springs and got a vibration under hard accelerations... speaking of that I have to go call H&R and find out where their fix is... Ive been waiting for it for months (kinda forgot about it)

    Hey AJPIII,

I haven't had any problems with my bulbs from midnight moose but I will agree that it is a severe pain to switch them out.

Is the new grill on the Special the one with the Chrysler embleming on the top instead of the middle of the grill? If not, where did you see the new grill?
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
I believe otto said it had the wing on the top, which makes me believe its the one on the http://www.300mclub.org/index.html web page. I think I like it, have to see one in person to decide though.

DenverM- My tips fit into the factory opening perfectly. Only cutting was done on the passenger side.

AJPIII- My Xenons from Midnightmoose.com have had absolutely no problems. They should be under warranty for you.
  • thill381thill381 Member Posts: 64
The 02 wing is at the top of the grill, right under the lip of the hood. Your local dealer should have one by now.

When I mentioned that I was going to convert the highlevel inputs to low I had the intention of using a converter. In theory there should be no difference unless you where coming out of the head w/ low level outs which would be the best. However, I am having problems w/ the sound quality of the basslink, and thought that maybe the low level inputs would solve my problem. At moderate volume the basslink sounds as if it shuts off until you turn the bass down, then it comes back on after a few seconds. Also the bass is much stronger when listening to the radio than when playing CD's. Makes no sense. Then there is the issue of the sub bottoming out because it sounds like the enclosure is too small. I guess I'll go listen to one in the store and see if it sounds any better than mine.

..just hit your website from the link you posted. SHEESH!, and I thought avalanche was the mod-man! Nice look, though, definitely.
Not one to mess with 'mods' and such things, I can certainly appreciate the effort, time and --ka-ching: $$$$ that you must have put into your M. What are the bluish things on either side of the ex-console? Me old eyes'er failing, hermm....
BTW, your membership package is on its way! Should get it by Monday/Tuesday!
To all, have a great weekend!

Your wife got PO'ed because of the Basslink and now will not get into the car? Good work!!!!!

I told my wife I was going to order and install the Basslink in our "M" and she also had a fitt!!
She says that I am masculating(remember the Macho Trans Am??) our "M". First the custom wheels, then and more so the sound of the Hujo duals and now the Basslink. I will wait a while for her to cool off before ordering the Basslink!
  • tucsongiltucsongil Member Posts: 116
I told my parents that I will buy them some tickets for Mystere Cirque de Soliel next time they go to Vegas. I will tell them to arrive ten minutes before show time, this way the 'professor" will harass them! hehehehe
  • silverbullet4silverbullet4 Member Posts: 449
It sounds like the speaker cone may be sticking at some point in its travel. The shop can check that easily. The reason for more bass on radio than CD's? My own listening has convinced me that youth and Hispanic oriented stations in our area are boosting the bass in the broadcast studio.

    Good luck, Silver
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
When I bought them I knew they were blue bulbs, but I had hoped the blue would just be enough to take the yellow out, not make all of the light blue! It is not slightly tinted blue, or barely noticeably blue, it is blue! At $17/pr., it was certainly worth a try, though.

I'm looking for other 9006XS bulbs (I'll leave the blue 100W 9005XS hi-beams in) that are white with nothing more than a barely noticeable blue tint. I asked one place, separately, how white their Xenons were, and how blue they were, and they answered:

"9005XS 100W and 9006XS 80W kelvin 4200 very white and the blue is nice."

Well, which is it -- white or blue!?

Just because from certain angles HID Xenon arc lights appear blue, every Xenon aftermarket bulb has to be completely blue.

A question: Is it ok to replace our 55W bulbs with 80W bulbs? Over time, will things burn out, melt, stop conducting, etc., as a result?
  • silverbullet4silverbullet4 Member Posts: 449
Well, sounds like you may have a bigger problem than me because your wife considers it to be "our" car. My wife has always disapproved of the M, so it is "my" car, paid for with my commission check. She has given up any proprietary rights so only can complain in general about wasting money on "things". I didn't help matters by exhibiting the compulsive car care syndrome for many months. (Professor Zaino, here) My kids on the other hand think the BassLink is very cool.
So we out number the wife. Heh!
    Good luck! Silver

Did you see my post a while back about a L-ville dealer advertising a brand new 01 M with a $37K sticker for $26,6. I clipped the ad, and can verify that is the deal, unless its a ""bait and switch," or "We just sold it..." deal. Is it time to trade the problem child for a new ride? Just a thought. How far are you from L-ville?
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
You are right, the size of your tires (smaller diameter, as well as the wider profile does help. The Gtech unit continues to do quarter mile times after testing for 0-60 times. That is why the timer keeps going, unless you put on the (sudden deacceleration). brakes. I have not tested my new tires yet, but times should improve with the Pole Positions over the Goodyears, I just changed out. I haven't tried the Bosh Plugs yet. Most of the mods are good for about a tenth of a second decrease (except the exhaust). Most of the credit can go to your tire combo. Getting it to six second area is going to be diffuicult. You may need the gears to do so, draw back is your gas mileage is going to suck (both figuretivly and litterly).
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Remimber the 01's are now 1 year old vehicles, because of model calender. So 26K is not nothing special.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I do not like it myself. I think the 99-01 grills look better. I wonder if the dealer would allow me to exchange my 99 grill for a 04 hemi when it comes out?

with a silver m today, spotted it up ahead, took off to catch up i got right on the bumper, the woman floored it, i was like oh yeah baby, we went at it for a little, she didn't know it was an m because i was so close to her, she kept going switching in and out of lanes i'm right there with her, we approach a light i pull up beside her she looks over and her husband is in the passenger seat sitting up looking to see what was giving his m a run for it, he sees it's another m and points and starts laughing like he was so glad it was a brother. :) i wish every day was like this!

I first saw the basslink about a year ago but did not want to pay the close to $500 msrp that people were asking. I reconsidered it when everybody here started ordering it off of ebay for half of the price and purchased one also, and I have been anything but impressed.

I have tried NUMEROUS physical positions and woofer settings and they are "muddy at best." I am connected into the speaker level as well. I recall a previous post that the head unit side is still at speaker level so the head units can be used in lower end applications and still drive the speakers directly but have no easy way to confirm this.

I have an LHS and wondered if the trunk was just too big! I also considered converting to line level but have yet to do so. I have also considered higher quality rear deck woofers but can only find 4 ohm units. I measured my woofers at 2 ohms. Let us know how the line level works out.

no more grafting in new tailights, just goign for jewel ones and will play around with those for a bit. the shaved gas door and trick hinge lights are still a go, and suicide doors of course. easy your prolly happy i think you told me 20 time over to get the jewel lights =)
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
yeh jeweled lights would be fine---just make them like Kyle's--all red--- should make things a lot easier for you and will look great--may be easier to hinge for the gas access too--at least you know they will look fine---not have to gamble on other lights--

    that pic is nice...
yea dean said he will making a dual tb setup, because there is a lot of room there, 13 something he said, can't remember. also he is making a stroker motor which will put the m under 5 seconds. ummm...insane. and gears he has, and a custom nos system to go with out 4 o2 sensors. gears are pricey but well well worth it. stroker motor will run of course a few thousand. thats all the info so far i think. call him up and talk to'em...
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
ok fellas, i need some 01' jewel lights, my dealer can get'em for $152, screw that, anyone got some good sites to order from? thanks i owe ya one
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
i was so glued to her bumper if she did look back all she saw was my windshield. i could have been any car on the road with a windshield. they were both surprised when i pulled up beside them. we were getting close to triple digits, she knew how to handle an m that's for sure.

If you are interested, you can get the 2001 jewel tailights off of a wrecked M probably for less money. I have located one in a slavage yard with front damage and the rest seems fine with a perfect rear end and the lights. Go to the following link and fill in the information to list 2001 Chrysler 300M.

    Go here:

I just have to give it some rubbing compound tomorrow. Next is the lighted switches (relocating them) I am thinking of the base of the front cupholer area.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The new tail lights look really good, I would go with them.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
my overhead temp reading is usually 5-7 degrees higher than actual outside temp---anyone else have this problem--I just had the auto climate control head replaced and it didnt solve the problem--I think this affects my auto climate control and may be part of the reason I have to set the auto temp control about 5 degrees higher for proper climate control---would disconnecting the battery to reset compute help this problem at all---I may need to have them reprogram it to see if that would cure it

I have been to the dealer 4 times for the same problem to no avail---my so called 5* isnt worth 2* in my opinion
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
for me before I leave to the meet in Monterrey. I can't believe only one more weekend (My weends are Thursday and Friday) for me to do mods. Will there be theropy sessons for those of us have Mod with draws. I could use a 10 step program to help me through it.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Check to make sure your inside temp sensor is working properly. It is located just below the fan speed control knob. I vacume mine every couple of months to keep the dust from building up and clogging the vents. The outside senor is used only to help mix the air. It also tells the system when it is OK to change recycle mode to fresh air mode.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
good clips to hold the hood sound deadener on, instead of those cheap clips that break every time when you remove them. They should use the same ones they use for the trund sound deadener. You can keep using them over and over again. Check into this Otto. It looks like a trip to the parts department, for me.
