I'm afraid I must disagree with the idea of the tire width being the same regardless of wheel width. While it's true that the cross section remains constant, a wider wheel can make the sidewall of the tire "bow" out more. That is where wide tires usually rub, not at the tread. It is true the tread width will not change however. If the tire does rub, a narrower (within compatible ranges) wheel may help.

well, I traded my 2001 Xterra for a 2000 300M....its very nice...It's still got a bit of the original warranty left so I'm making a list of the small things I've seen that need to be repaired. i wanted to see if there is anything i should ask to get checked out in addition to this:

    1) the drivers side door doesn't always open from the outside when unlocked. Its unlocked sure enough but it will only open from the inside.
    2) openning that door produces a creeking noise.
    3) the drivers side power window makes a strange noise when lowered

what else should I have them check out?

    Thanks
    S

Go the the www.300mclub.org web site and go the the "other 300M sites", then under Miscelleous, click on 01 recalls and TSB's. This will give you a list of any problems. I would then go over each (use it as a check list) one and see if your car is OK.

Did you sign up for the Route 2002 yet? I thinking of haveing a AZ meet there. I have signed up for the Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep ones. Should be fun.
If we get together like last year, we will have several lowered 300M's to show off.

I was doing some highway driving today and came upon a construction area. About a mile before that, my detector started going off (K band) and was full blast right before the construction and stopped after the construcion area. Of course, I slowed down to the proper speed limit (I do that anyway when in construction zones). While driving through, I saw no police whatsoever.

Then I saw a report on the news where undercover police officers wear construction clothing and radar cars going buy. If they catch anyone speeding, they radio ahead to the awaiting police car who makes the stop. I wonder if that's why my detector went crazy only in the construction zone.

In any case, this is a friendly reminder to slow down not only for your protection, but for all the workers on the highway too.

I used to suffer with goute flair-ups all the time. Read one article that said in olden days days people would kill themselves because of the pain that would last for months due to no medicine for it.
Have now been on Probenecid 500mg once a day for several years and no flair ups and does not bother my stomach at all, the other meds tore up my stomach like eating ground glass.
Let's see "this advise should hep you drive you 300M with out pain" that should make this a legal post on this board.
An interesting thing happened to me this past Sunday. I wound up in the emergency room with a uric acid kidney stone that the doctor said was caused by my goute. As you know organ meats are the worst thing for goute, well Friday I ate a plate of chopped chicken livers I guess that's what caused the kidney stone??? Told the nurse about the livers and said I would have to figure out if the pain was worth the pleasure. She said eating to many ribs and getting a stomach ache, or eating too much Mexican food and getting the runs was one thing. But going back again to eat some thing that put me in the emergency room would qualify as "Extreme Eating Sports".

Here in Ohio the attach radar guns to the signs at construction sites that tell you to merge lanes(you can see them on the bottom of the signs a small round object in a small square box) no cops around just a trick to get speeders to slow down.
My bell detector will go crazy as I approach the sign and then fade of after I pass it.
Just keep that 300M in check anyhow as we need all the road improvements and cant afford to lose any workers. Ok got 300M in this post also.

Symptoms are clearing on the gout, but the cure may be worse than the disease. I was on colchicine [sp?][2 years now with good results] and the dose is 1 a day unless an eruption occurs then 1 per hour til it clears or you get the runs. Guess what for 2 days. Makes driving my 300M to work a real challenge. Extra towels on the leather seats. Spare clothing. Nuff said. Imodium anyone? And on to Dearborn tomorrow.
  • jab02lhsjab02lhs Member Posts: 122
Was on that at one time and like you still got flair ups.
Ask your doctor about the Probedecid its much better and no flair ups. Just be sure to take the old med with the new for a month till the new med gets thru your system my doctor forgot to tell me this and I had some flair ups at first but now no stomach problems and no flair ups. Don't want you to have to try to get skid marks off those 300M leather seats. :>)
  • bigmike5bigmike5 Member Posts: 960
I've got a call into my pharmacist now to ask about the stuff you use. I'm on so many different medicines I had to clear taking Imodium with her before I tried that anyway. Don't want a bad interaction.

OK, after 4 years the tensioner pulley died on my wife's Grand Voyager and caused the latest belt shredding. It's fixed and ready for another week of trouble free driving. I will be looking at the M to see what kind of tensioner arrangement it has.

Where are the 300m owners going to be located at the cruise. I live near 12 mile road and woodward and want to meet up. Do you have an idea as to a location?
  • jab02lhsjab02lhs Member Posts: 122
This is very pertinent to the 300M forum as it usually settles in the big toe of our accelerator pedal foot. I guess it's no pain no gain to the max. :>)

I am trying to purchase new rotors but I am having trouble finding what size rotors for my 2000 300m without PHG. I have the 17" chrome wheels. I believe I need the 297mm size vs the 282 mm. Can anyone verify this?

Well I just wanted to put up a few new pics of my car with the newest mods and then I'm gonna go do some reading and catch up on what I've missed. Please let me know what you all think. Talk to you all soon.

That's a real funny looking spare tire there bud! Lol. What a sweet ride. Radical yet refined. I have to admit though...I still don't like your wheels much. Other than that it's awesome.

The package was delivered to your porch today. Please make sure you go find it.

Chrysler on its way to putting V8 Hemi in next-generation 300M

Outward appearances are deceiving: Word has it this rear-wheel-drive 300M replacement packs a Hemi V8. (Photos by John Johnson)
Hemi. For such a short word, it carries tremendous weight for Chrysler and for those who associate it with Chrysler motorsports prowess and serious street-car muscle.

As far as we can tell, the U.S. arm of DaimlerChrysler is well on its way to putting a V8 Hemi engine in the next-generation 300M and reconfiguring the chassis from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive. In keeping with the 300 letter-series practice revived for the current car, the new one will be badged 300N when it debuts in 2004 as an ’05 model.

Chrysler’s 30-year Hemi hiatus comes to an end late this year when Dodge’s heavy-duty 2003 Ram trucks arrive at dealerships. Among the engine options will be a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 capable of 345 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque, similar to a powerplant that first appeared in the 300 Hemi C concept back in 2000 (AW, July 10, 2000). Chrysler clearly has big plans for the engine: It will build 440,000 Hemi engines, with only 140,000 set aside for heavy-duty use.

While 300N will share its powerplant with Ram trucks, look for other running gear to show up courtesy of Mercedes-Benz, including the German builder’s slick five-speed automatic.

The topper? Chrysler could offer a Hemi-powered 300N convertible by 2005.

There is absolutely no way to keep a group together at Dreaam Cruise.
The venue is 17 miles long, with 35,000 cars and 1.5 million people!
We will gather for meals and tours, but Saturday everyone is on their own for the cruise.

Boy I can't wait! I just hope they don't kill the styling, size, and other features that we love. Let's see....late '04, just about time to trade Big Red in for.....BIGGER RED! lol

All 300M's have 297mm rotors... I had heard that the php had 297 and the non-php had 282... I went and ordered 282 just to find out I really needed 297...

where do you put your bags when you go on vacation--or go golfing? maybe you need a nice trailer hitch---Sdmike can hook you up---

thats not nice to put down hermdoggs wheels---he's got $4000 in them wheels ---its some radical wheels for a radical ride!
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Just responding to his request for opinions. If he didn't want them, he shouldn't ask. :)
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Great car. I like just about everything you did ot it. Love the air suspension (but need the trunk room for trips). The wheels are the only thing I would have done differently I like to see the rotors. All totaled you must have more money in accessories in her then what the car is worth. Although I can't talk much in that area eather.
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
Buddy ,nice ride. You HAVE to bring that badboy to Brampton on Monday. The plant would flip if they saw your car.
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
Dc will again have a display at Northwood shopping plaza (13 mile and Woodward)so make sure you check it out. I will be there at noon . See if you can find me.

are the php rotors any better than the regular rotors---are they less prone to warpage? I may try raybestos next time as my 2000 M has warped factory rotors....
  • illini4illini4 Member Posts: 140
My PHP rotors warped slightly at 29,500 miles. I decided to have them machined and stay with the existing pads for awhile, but NAPA told me they were below minimum thickness! I replaced them with NAPA PHP rotors and NAPA United pads. The pads squealed like crazy, so I got a refund and installed Bendix pads. After one week, they are totally quiet. Both the OEM and NAPA pads were bonded, the Bendix are rivited.

I understand that it is difficult to maintain a group of M's from dearborn to the cruise; however, there are sidestreets and locations just off woodward where 300m owners, who want to drive their M on woodward, could meet up and run a stretch of woodward together.

Yes all 300M brake rotors(PHP, or not) are supposed to be 297mm. However you should measure yours to make sure. For some reason, my PHP car with the 16" rims had the 282 ones from the factory(early 2000) This is why when I got the 297 from KVR they looked, & were bigger.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
please don't post anything like that again!!! ;)
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Maybe the 99 and early 00 PHP with the 16" wheels had the 282 mm rotors? DC cut off outside access to their on-line specification sheets (I should have saved them) so I can't check.

Does anyone (Otto?) know what the different gear ratios and final drive ratio were in the 2001 300M? What are they in the 2002 Special?
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
    mrl859
not off hand , but I do know that the Special uses the same gear used in all LH cars with the 2.7 L engine .It actually is the 2.7 trans with special software

    sdmike2 cmyers300m

Sorry guys about that link .

No problem, it's just that it looks like a nightmare I have of what my M would look like if I gave the keys to the wife on a regular basis.(She's not a bad driver, she is just very prone to other people hitting her)
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
If the price goes down let me know I would just change the front body panals for my 99 ones, and Paint the whole car a Diamond metalic white like the Caddys have (I love that color).
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I just got back from a short trip to Payson, Pine, and Strawberry. I saw more M's in Payson then most trips in Phoenix (except for Scottsdale) so I handed out about 6 cards. Everyone seems to love the way the car drive. Hopefully a few more new faces will join us.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Think of otto's picture as potential Mod parts. Then it won't look so bad (unless it is your car).
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
My Non-Php 99 had 297mm rotors, better measure them...
  • psterpster Member Posts: 293
hmmmmmm......using the $1400 bid to fix a mere kiss to my wife's front Sebring bumper, I'd say this 300M looks like it could be fixed for....say......$27,000,000,000. Yes, that's billions.
  • 300kam300kam Member Posts: 29
Although the wheel style is not my taste, but the low profile really looks good, that is what 300M should be. Do you have picture from rear, so I can see the tires from behind?
What are those tubes in the trunk for?
You must have spent load of $$ on the M! Hope Chrysler will keep 300 design in class not junking it.
