Anyone put off by the Edmunds review? Well don't be, go to the "Jeep Liberty Problem" page and get a dose of reality. I have had my Axiom for 5 months now and not a problem, not a rattle nor drip, super solid and very high quality.
So Axiom got another bad review, this truck is not for everyone and for very bad review it gets a good one, love it or hate it!..
I received a price of $150.00 under invoice for the regular 4WD Axiom with the dealer installing the side moulding from XS model. I like the truck...comments!!!!!!
I live in the Indianapolis area and bought my new Axiom last night. It is the charcoal gray metallic (I refuse to use the silly color names they come up with,) 4x4 with the two tone leather seats with Axiom stitched on the seat. Is this option available other places? I could see no mention of this option in the brochure, but the my leather treatment is an "option" on the window sticker.
I paid $500 below the edmunds.com "invoice" price, plus received the incentives and 5.9 financing for 60 months. The dealer also gave me over $1500 more for my Ford Taurus than anybody other dealer was willing to do. (Was also looking at the Buick Rendevous as I liked the third Row of seats that are available.)
A couple of things I was wondering:
1. Do You think if I went to a custom van shop or such that they could put in a 3rd row of seats (possibly rear-facing?)
2. Have any of You had a TV/VCR System put into the vehicle? If so with what results? What type? (ie ceiling or headrest monitors) Brands?
Only one day, and I LOVE this vehicle. I have read quite a few of the on-line reviews available and many of them, I just scratch my head on... I started looking for a new vehicle due to back problems (2 herniated and 1 bulging disc) and found the Axiom to have the most comfortable seats that I could find. I also don't understand the no-room comments for the drivers seat...I am 6'3" and well over 250, and don't feel any more cramped in this vehicle than the numerous others that I test drove (Dodge Durange, Buick Rendevous, Toyota Highlander, Chevy Trailblazer)
Welcome to the family. Be sure to check out http://isuzu-suvs.com and send me pics for the gallery. Also check out the rest of the isuzu-owner forums here on edmunds.
A couple of nights ago I received a telephone call from an Isuzu contractor (probably a professional consumer survey company), about fifteen minutes of survey style questions about what I liked and didn't like about my Axiom, what I considered buying, etc. Pretty detailed, including the usual demographic questions.
So Isuzu, having sold some Axioms, is trying harder to figure out who us early adopters are as a way to figure out how to sell more. Go Isuzu! -jj-
Actually I remember getting this same call when I bought my Amigo (now Rodeo Sport) last year. Went through the same routine of questions you describe, so I think maybe Isuzu just started to do this for all models.
BTW- Wife's Axiom is great. She keeps getting mad that I sneak it out. No problems yet except the vehicle came with irritating squeaking coming from passenger-side rear seat (which dealer fixed).
"It was more like driving a tall luxury wagon than a truck."
"From its strong acceleration to its comfortable ride and snazzy two-tone tan and black leather interior, the XS, which came with four wheel drive, was a pleasure."
Been about 1 month of ownership on the new Axiom, and so far it has been great. I have put about 1800 miles on it, and am averaging around 19 mpg (60/40 highway/city) No problems to report. I love this vehicle! I will try to get a picture in soon...
I have looked into the 3rd row seat, but haven't heard anything back from the littlepassengerseat as of yet. I also researched the mobile video options, and have decided to hold off. These folks are ripping people off! $500 for a 7" monitor?! You could do something with a NEC 15" LCD computer monitor that would run $399 at Circuit city... I might look into building something myself that would house a flat computer monitor (2.6" thick) along with a PS2 (for gaming and DVD) I'll let You guys know if I come up with anything...
I am trying to find a spare CD Changer magazine. My dealer wants to sell one for $65, which is an outrageous price for the piece of plastic. Does anybody know who manufactures or sell them. By the way, Axiom is a great vehicle. I enjoy it a lot. Can’t get any better for this price. Two problems so far: -a squeak in the passenger side rear sit -the see-through plastic cover of the instrumentation panel rattles. And yes! I would definitely appreciate more leg room for
Some of the taller trooper owners have taken their trucks to body shops to have the seat rails adjusted. Maybe about $200. I am sure it isn't that hard to pull the rails and move them back 2 inches and then bolt them down again.
I have sent 8 emails to different Isuzu dealers in the S.C & Ga , asking about the Axiom XS and pricing. Only two dealers responded, and when sending followup questions, I get no return response. 4 wd's have been hard to locate here, but when I ask if you can get the 2wd with a limited slip, I have not received any answers. So, does anyone know if you can get a 2wd with limited slip rear diff. Thanks for any help.
Is using the Axiom as a long term test vehicle. I happened to catch the show on Sunday Morning. The show is a little hokey, but if you like trucks and interested in seeing the Axiom on TV check it out.
Started new vehicle looking a year ago and first reports on the Axiom really looked good. Made a reasonable "cost plus" offer to a local volume dealer before I even saw one. But, test drive was lah de dah, Trooper for a lot less money was a lot more bang for the buck. Now 7 months later I have not yet seen a owner driven Axiom on the streets around River City. Bought a Pathfinder SE. loaded except leather for 24.5K and couldn't be happier. I predict this vehicle (maybe company) will be bye bye before long. I'm sorry about that too.
Don't know how you got a NEW pathfinder for 24.5K but that's a good deal. Does it have AWD like the Zus? Offroadable like the Zus? There you go, didn't think so... That is however a good price, tack on $1K more to bring it up to par with the Isuzu warranty.
After many second thoughts I traded my 2000 Trooper S to an Axiom. While I was cleaning out the Trooper I almost changed my mind since I liked the Trooper a lot. This was my second one. Now that I have driven the Axiom for a week, I'm glad I made the switch. It took me several days to get used to the new driving position. In the Trooper I used to step into the truck and had the seat relatively close to the steering wheel since it sits rather high. I tried that with the Axiom and it doesn't work. The biggest problems were getting in and then my foot was always hitting the top bracket of the brake pedal when braking. The solutions were to get in the by sitting down and sliding over and then moving the seat back further so the legs and arms are extended. That position is now very comfortable. I can see where some Trooper owners would not like driving the Axiom unless they make the same adjustment I did.
The Axiom is more suited for the kind of driving that I do - very little off road, but lots of mountain gravel road driving and winter driving in snow. I also find that the Axiom is more comfortable to drive on road trips. Both the inside and outside are appointed very nicely and in general it's a better looking vehicle (although Paisan may object to that comment). You do give up inside space, especially in the back seat and some ground clearance. The MID is great once you get used to it - I like having all that information, but the low fuel light comes on rather early. I wonder if that can be re-programmed by the dealer? Anyway, after a few days of wondering whether I did the right thing I am a happy Axiom owner!! We paid $1,500 under invoice or $3,343 under MSRP.
PS: Before I bought it I also drove an Explorer and I did not like it at all. It felt very confining compared to the Trooper.
at least you have a real isuzu. I am positive that Iwould have bought the Axiom, had it been out when I got mytrooper. I originally had a deposit on a Subaru Legacy GT wagon. I went up to the Trooper for the towing, and power. The size was a side benefit.
What do people think about the dual range suspension? I am considering the Axiom, but I just wonder if this suspension will have problems in the future when shocks wear out. How easy will it be to replace the system if it wears out?
It's a great system. It changes the valving of the shocks for the rear based on what you set it at. It should be pretty reliable. Also you can always swap them out @ replacement time for regular shocks which is a nice option.
The stock Axiom shocks looks pretty heavy duty. I'm sure that if you had to replace with them with the same ones they would be more expensive than Trooper shocks, for example. I expect they will last a long time, though. I have read that several people that tested or own an Axiom like the "sports" mode. I prefer the regular "comfort" mode for most driving. The option is nice
They are bigger because they have the re-valveing servos built into them. Replacement stock shocks would be expensive, but if you went with something like a rancho 9000 replacement shock it would not be more than $50-70/part. The 9000s are actually adjustable as well.
I recently purchased an Axiom XS. I am have a problem with the Homelink. It only has power to it when the key is on. Therefore, it does not retain the program after the key is turned off. I took it to the dealer but they could not find the problem. Has anyone else had this problem?
It's refreshing to read an unbiased report on the Axiom. I agree with just about everything in the review after driving my Axiom for a couple of weeks. The review done by Edmunds was way off. I couldn't believe that Edmunds, which I trust for a lot of the car information that I get, did such a bad job on the Axiom. The revier had such bitterness that it showed in his words.
We all have our opinions!! The comment "they stored the spare tire underneath the vehicle where it can be punctured" (may not be an exact quote, but close enough) is true and justifiable. However, it is an example of trashing a vehicle unfairly since it does not apply just to the Axiom. There are a lot of vehicles that have done the same thing. If he had made the same comment on all his reviews for those vehicles as well, I stand corrected and yield to your view. My hunch is that he added that to the Axiom because he didn't like the vehicle and ommitted it from other vehicles that he did like. There are other similar examples that give me the impression tha it is a biased report.
" Storage of the full-size spare tire under the vehicle, tucked behind the trailer-towing equipment, helps to maximize carrying capacity. Unfortunately, this location makes the spare difficult to access and susceptible to puncture, so it's a good thing the Axiom comes standard with roadside assistance."

I know there are a few Axioms in NJ.
We are meeting between 7-8pm @ SI Subaru/Isuzu on Hylan Blvd in SI. Anyone want to meet? So far there are at least 3 Troopers and a VX.

I just read the review - yes, it looks harsh but bitter? I think not. The reviewer explained each criticism and gave praise where appropriate.
That's just my personal observation!
