were the soft compound tires v. the harder ones that are better for track. Normally you are correct that would be an expensive day if you burned up a set in a day like that.

Wow, nice shots, mike. That tire is trashed!

they look like kumhos. I mean, just looking at the tire you could easily say that the car needed more camber via alignment or camberplates, or more roll stiffness via bigger swaybars and/or stiffer springs... all true.

but it's still the nut behind the wheel ultimately responsible. :-D

  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Well it has a stock alignment since it's my daily driver, the springs are already stiff as are the struts. Still looking for sway bars. And on top of it all they are the soft-compound Kumho Ecsta V700s.

They were also used tires that may not have been heat cycled properly by the original owner.

Just tryin' to help ya out, mike. ;-)

Hee hee, yeah I'm not worried :) $100 is not a lot to blow in tires :)

By the way, July 9-10 we'll be at Summit again for HPDE and Hyperfest. Anyone in the area should make it down.

OK, here's the new tint. It's Solargard Charcoal 22% all around (excluding the front of course).

its looks great when surrounded by more fences than stalag 13.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
    that is pretty sweet!

    ~Colin

oh ps, what are we looking at/for in the headlights pic? safari grass? :)
  • goneskiiangoneskiian Member Posts: 381
    Colin - LOL!

No, just a pic of the cut off lines for the headlights. It's really not a good representation of what I was going for. I need to find a parking lot with big concrete wall at one end so I can get a better pic of it. I'll go looking as soon as it gets dark. ;-)

    Ian,

Very tasty! The charcoal is a perfect match for the silver color! I currently have 20% tints on my Forester and I think I'll do something similar again.

Also thanks for the headlight pattern shot. Nice sharp cutoffs!

Very nice. Do you vacuum the carpet under the car much? :)

    Greg
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Looks very sharp. I love it. Mine would be light blue but otherwise the same.

Check out the light pattern - very sharp cutoff. Those projector beams seem to do a good job. Who needs HIDs?

Ok I'm slowly coming off the fence, thinking of the dark-blue Legacy GT Sedan in 5MT or 6MT in '06 to replace the SVX. What do you think?

    -mike
  • goneskiiangoneskiian Member Posts: 381
    Great choice! ;-)

I'm sure you'll have the choice of a lot more options than I did. Ouch. That hurts to say.

  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
I think I'd want that Steel Grey Metallic.

I also think the 5MT is *plenty* in the Legacy GT. The STi's six speed is busy and only slightly less RPM at high-speed cruising.

    ~Colin
likes six speed bikes but not so much in cars, it seems
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Steel grey, is that the color? I love steel grey but don't think it's available.

So you think I'd be ok with the 5MT? Well I figure I'll wait til next year to save up some more downpayment money and see if they add any little items in v1.2 of it, like Nav and/or HID.

    mike,

Have you driven one yet? That's the only way to be sure.

    Ken
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Nope I've got plenty of time to see what I want to get so I'll spend this year trying out various configs and see what I like.

Exactly what I'm thinking. The dealers here are not willing to negotiate like they are at Fitzmall, etc. soooooo, can I fly up there when you're ready to buy and go get the volume discount? :)

    Jim
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Sounds like a plan Jimmy! Then we can do a comparo of all the MT Turbo Legacies that they made! Hee hee.

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Maybe we'll all meet up and buy 3 cars in one day! LOL

2006 or 2007 for me, most likely. Halifax. Or Legacy GT. Or Legacy. Or Forester XT. Or Forester.

    I'm still on...The Fence!

I read on Edmunds.com that the '06 will have Navigation option for the legacy/ob so i'll likely do that.

    Great pics!

Any problems negotiating the deep soft sand? Did you lower your tire pressure?

    Bob
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
    Thanks!

I aired down to about 14 psi's. There were a couple of spots where the exhaust hit the sand (could see a trail in the rear view mirror), but I didn't have any problems. The Forester handles that place better than my OBS did. :-)

Last weekend I picked up a skid plate from paisan and it's great!

Are you happy with your spoiler? Any negatives? (I'm still contemplating adding one)

    -Frank
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
Would've taken the surfboard, but knew the waves were flat. :-)

What exit? I don't know if I should tell you. ;-)
    82. That's Barnegat Lighthouse in the second pic (Exit 63).

Love the spoiler and I think it makes the back look better. No negatives that I can think of.

    Great color choice Dennis! ;-)

Hmmm, don't think I'll be takin' the GT out on the beach much. Looks like fun though!

    2) Cute kid. Takes driving seriously.

You're kidding, right? Sparing maybe an hour at a shot tops, I started that in March and just finished it this week.

    2) Cute kid. Takes driving seriously.

Funny how he immediately latched onto the steering wheel.

    3) In a few years, "Can I have a go kart?"

Hmmm...Not sure where to start with that. We'd have to live somewhere a lot more rural than we do now.

All of that hard work paid off! He looks like a serious driver. :-)
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Definitely send that to Drive, they'll publish it in a second.

    A few observations:

    * nice approach/departue angles
    * love the 3 spoke wheel
    * two foot drive, though. 4 with a dog inside?
    * classic bug eyed look
    * where's the helmet? ;-)

Looks great! Seriously, submit that to Drive.
