Like the sharp cut-off with the headlights. Wish my '98 OBW lights had that cut-off. Then I could crank them up a bit more for more distance lighting without blowing the eyeballs on on-coming drivers. I've put in "brighter" bulbs, but they are still too easy to over-drive.

Hmm, I have one of those re-chargeable Jeeps for my kids, you think if I swapped the Jeep stickers for Subaru ones I'd get better range? Reliability? LOL

I'm sure it looks great Ken, but apparently my company has recently decided that imagestation is an inappropriate site. :(

She looks very "at home". I can tell you fixed up the landscaping for her arrival, too.

Long live OCD. Even the parking spots have to be clean!

Thanks folks. I had to keep going to my garage last night just to make sure it was all for real!

Kana's still intimiated by it. I suggested she drive it, but she just wanted to sit inside and soak it in.

Erina absolutely LOVES the moonroof. She rode in it the first time this morning to day care. I rolled back the shade and she kept looking up, pointing and blabbering something.

Some areas saw 7 inches of rain! In one night!

Major flash floods north of Baltimore. Saw a Jeep Liberty floating away on TV.

Don't drive over moving water folks!

One place in Delaware got over 11.5" of rain! It looks like Harford and Cecil Counties (Maryland) are in pretty bad shape. Lots of flooding.

It was Smyrna, DE; which is just north of DC, per Saab. :D

    DC = Dover

Ken: Nice photo of a sweet new car. Sorry - but only a little - to see you out of the Forester fold, but we picked up Loosh and Dennis so that makes up for it! ;-P

    Congrats,

I forget these things. Sleep deprivation isn't the problem it was a few months ago so I'll chalk it up to CWS. ;-)

    Ed,

Going OT, here but how's fatherhood? How many months has it been now?

Don't worry -- it get's easier and a lot more fun. I love spending time with Erina now that she's more interactive.

  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Ken: It is getting easier and more fun in most aspects, but I know it won't be long before he gets mobile and the real fun starts.

As you can see from the pics, Paul is a big boy; 23 lbs. give or take a few ounces at 7 1/2 months. He doesn't crawl very well but can stand on his own as long he has something to hold onto (sometimes he will tire of using his hands and support himself with his chin alone). Sits by himself with no support. We can tell he's frustrated by his inability to propel himself as well as he'd like. No teeth yet but very soon. VERY verbal. Starting to grab mommy's and daddy's eyeglasses, nose, ears, hair etc. when he can.

Loves music, ceiling fans, overhead lights, women with long hair, and anything blue (he will stare, transfixed, at the TV screen when The Weather Channel runs its "local on the 8s" becuase the screen is virtually all blue). Loves to sit on the kitchen floor and watch things happen - loves to watch people doing things generally.

He is in onsite day care at mom's place of work which entertains him to no end. We worry sometimes that he will get bored at home but we also realize we don't always have to go out of our way to entertain him. So long as we interact with him, doing the things we normally do holds his interest.

All in all, I love him more than life itself and I wouldn't trade these last almost eight months for the world.

    (honoring the off-topic interlude)

Wait until that first step. You'll wish he stayed immobile. ;-) Sounds like you took fatherhood just fine! :-)

Brogan (13mos) crawls and climbs all over things. He walked earlier than Brooke (3.1yrs) did, at just before a year old. He tries to walk faster to keep up with his older sister, but he's not a runner just yet ;-)

Tonight he walked over to me and gave me a hug and muttered "Daaaaah", his current version of Dad. I guess that makes up for the mess he just made eating dinner - he likes to watch food drop to the floor now.

    (continuing off-topic)

My baby boy, Mikey will be turning 9 in August.

It just keeps getting better! Verbal sounds turns into full comprehensive conversations. Toys move from mega blocks to lego's. I think we have over 100,000 legos. Not just the plain blocks mind you, but "mission from mars" and construction vehicle sets. The entire Harry Potter series is complete on a shelf in his room. Cozy Coupes move to tricycles to mountain bikes. Did you ever ride a Razor Scooter down a hill? Can you say soccer? The boy also discovered skiing last winter.

(on-topic) That's why I have an Outback - to move all his stuff around!

It's a wonderful experience, and I would not trade it for anything.

Sounds like Ed's enjoying fatherhood as much as I am.

Charlie is entering his Terrible Twos, and his tantrums seem worse than his sister's. Funniest thing is to hear him say "I don't know" (as in who broke that) and his expression, it's priceless.

He LOVES riding on the back of my bike. Hey, where's Don been anyway? I wonder how Marianne is doing?

He slept through the night but that night started and ended a bit early for him. Suffice it to say I'll probably turn in early and not attend the chat.

I see yesterday I posted "CWS" when I meant "CRS" ;-). Maybe I was thinking about the Chicago White Sox, I don't know.

Tantrums have already started. As for the mobility issues, I've dropped 35 lbs. since Paul was born in anticipation of having to keep up with him (not that I didn't need to lose those anyway). Unfortunately at my age the pounds seem to come off the middle last.

That's a special feeling only a parent can understand. Erina just lights up my world.

Maybe we should start a new Subaru Crew Topic: Subaru Owners' Kids.

Getting back on cars: your comments in other fora on the Legacy GT's 5EAT, combined with my own test drive of same (Garnet Red/Taupe Limited wagon), may make me regret ordering the Forester XT. I still think the Forester is a better fit for me than the Legacy; I just wish it had the 5EAT and VTD. Just watch: it'll get those in '06.

Bob, do you have inside information? I haven't been able to get that from Patti or anyone else.

If it's true I may consider cancelling my order. One of the factors behind my purchase was that I don't want to wait for the Forester to begin to adopt the Zapatinas styling cues.

  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Nope, just a firm believer in Murphy's Law and all its spin-off corollaries. :)

Here's where you (and others as well) and I differ. That couldn't happen fast enough for me. I wish it were here now. I only wished the new Legacy and Outback had the new look. That's my only major styling criticism of the new Legacy and Outback. I do, however, understand Subaru's reasons for their delay and plan of implementation.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Ed: they actually waited for you to order before incorporating those changes. ;-)

2006 is due for a face-lift so it might just get some version of the upside-down Alfa face. Though I'd prolly like that better than the current snarling Elantra face, to be honest.

    -juice
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
Well, if we're being absolutely honest, I like the styling of the '98-00 Foresters over the '01-02s, and both over the current cars. Styling wasn't my prime mover in buying the Forester, and still isn't. I admit to having some deep-seated affinity for boxy, lumpy cars that go faster than they look. Forester XT, BMW 2002, Datsun 510, Lotus Cortina, Ford Falcon Sprint, Studebaker Lark Daytona, Volvo Amazon GT - love 'em. Oh yeah, when it comes to Alfas the Giulia Super is my favorite.

The B11S, B9SC, R1e, and R2 front end treatments just aren't doing it for me though. I don't know how best to put it into words. It's not that it's reminiscent of Edsel (Edsel grilles were wide at top, smaller at bottom like Alfa) and it's not that Alfa pulls the look off that well from model to model either.

I like the 01-02 best, then my 98. The new ones' face is my least favorite, but I prefer the D-pillar and the rear view.

    -juice
  • lark6lark6 Member Posts: 2,565
That's one thing I did notice when I test drove an XT; the SG Foresters have better rearward visibility than the SFs.

    Ed
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
I actually like the look of my F-XT, especially when clean ;-) And yes, the visibility is great from all directions. Boxy = good!

I haven't had to wash it in about 3 weeks. I just dust it daily, take care of any spots with Meguiar's QD, and have been giving the vehicle a full QD wipedown weekly.

    -Brian
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The rear windows dips down nice and low. Even on the older ones visibility is excellent due to the narrow pillars (frameless doors help).

The Konis were on less than half stiffness when these pics were taken. I didn't bother stiffening it up as it was only a 1 day track event and didn't want to pull the rear seat :)

C'mon - clean those front rims of the brake dust! Doesn't that rob you of 1-2 hp? ;-)

Looks great on the track. Good stills!

    -Brian
  • paisanpaisan Member Posts: 21,181
Brake dust..... Running HP+ Pads with slotted rotors will cause that dust every week or so. There is no fighting it really. However I can put the passenger's head through the windshield if I hit the brakes hard enough.
