I don't know how much you are gonna have to borrow or are borrowing. But just so you know. A 4.9% over a 7.9% will save you about $1500 over 36 months on 30k. The Fed has reduced the advantage of the 4.9% by 1% over the last month. Im glad they droped the rates, but you didn't see gm dropin their rates.

I think I would be at the dealer as soon as I could the day it arrives. And forwarn the dealer NO TEST DRIVES, or he can take of $100 per test drive off the price.

Best of luck, sounds like a great truck.

Just like to hear what kind of mileage I can expect from the 6.0 w/4.10 gears. Also would 3.73
    gears be that much different?
  • jaijayjaijay Member Posts: 162
Sorry the truck is not a crew cab. It is a 2500HD D/A Extended cab long bed. The truck is long enough without the crew cab.
  • markbuckmarkbuck Member Posts: 1,021
Same TPW as mine. Hope they don't accidently make your's vinyl and rubber floored and a 6.0 5 speed.

Hunter, I got lots of goodies coming on mine for a price of mid-$28k. Plus GMS+4% is really close to Dealer Invoice plus $500.... which most of yawl should be able to negotiate on an ordered truck.

My soon to be built truck (in white with neutral)
    2500HD Long Box 4WD Sierra Crew Cab, 5speed, 6.0L
    Deep tinted glass
    Power door locks
    Body Moldings
    A/C
    Camper Mirrors
    Locking Diff
    Block heater
    Cruise Control
    Big Air Cleaner
    Skid Plate
    Chrome Wheels
    Off Road Tires
Commercial Pkg (almost Corinthian Leather ;o)
    Cassette Radio
    Camper Wiring
    Chrome rear bumper
    Front Deluxe appearance package
    Trailering package
    Z85 suspension

Should be able to haul/tow almost anything I can think of almost anywhere I wanna go.

Gonna buy another set of wheels to mount up Studdies for winter use. Gonna put AL covers on tailgate and front of bed, gonna add a Stainless Steel piece of angle iron to the top of the front of the bed. Gonna take the rubber bed mat outta my current Silverado along with my electric brake controller.

Thinking I'm gonna be lucky to get $15k outta my '99 Silverado 1/2 ton, so this new truck's gonna cost me another $15k. Dang, need to drive this one 10 years or more.

Thinking long term of eventually running LT235/85-16 tires to slightly reduce overall gearing and give a little more ground clearance.

    What'd I forget?

    sfoguy,
My 2001 Crew Cab was ordered first week of July. TPW was 1/1/01. Truck was shipped on 1/16/01. Arrived in Montana on 1/31/01. Tracked it across the heartland on www.bnsf.com. Requires the last 8 VIN numbers. Truck is surprisingly quiet and smooth. Fit and finish are excellent. Mine is Summit White. For those wondering it came with the black flairs. Tired to order new white ones from GM but they are currently out of stock. This is an 8.1 Allison with 3.73's. Truck has power to spare but gearing does seem tall. I'll post MPG on the 8.1 discussion when I fill up.
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
Sounds like your truck is a loaded base model. You will like the 6.0L and 5 spd. I use the 1st gear all the time, even though the manual says it is for use with a load only. It will get you about 1/2 across the intersection, then shift into 2nd.

Plenty of power, in the mountains you may have to use 4th on big grades, no problem. At least, the trans doesn't 'hunt' between OD and not.

I'm looking at 255/85-16 LR 'D's for my 2500. They will give you an extra inch of ground clearance, run at 65 psi for a softer ride, and still have the same load capacity as the 245 LR 'E's.

Good luck selling your 99. No nibbles on mine. So, I will probably keep both trucks. The 2500 will keep the camper, and the 1500 will be a commuter, hauler for everybody.

PS: Post pics when your baby comes in.

Turns out the Incentives and Rebates refered to by Edmunds (Per GM) applies to 3/4 ton models with C6P options. C6P option is the SO CALLED 2500 HD models with 8600 GVW.

So No Help from Ford/Dodge for our 9200 GVW REAL HD models.

I have a 2500HD GMC Crew Cab and there is no deactivation switch for crew's. GM assumes children will be placed in the rear seats.I believe ex-cabs have this but its not an option on crews.

The GMC with the M74 tranny includes a temp gauge. Why doesn't the Silverado with M74
also include the gauge? Can the Silverado be retrofitted with the gauge as the dash area
looks like the GMC where the gauge readout is.

Finally got VIN #,for GMC 3500 SLT, paying $600 over invoice. Dealer told me I was price protected through GMC, Invoice $918 increase from time I placed order. Is there price protection? If so when does it take effect? When order placed? When GMC received order? When they accepted order? Dealer refuses to call GMC says they won't help I can call them if I want to, but I'll be wasting my time. He than tells me if I keep complaining he will send my deposit back and sell the truck to someone else, He's a real sweetheart. Hope their service dept. is a lot better.

Sorry, I am sorry if I am wrong. I think it varies by region, or it is supposed to anyways. What threw me for the loop was it showed crew cabs and such, was there an old style 2001 crew cab. I thought there was no 2001 old style. Well if I'm wrong, sorry, if Im not, your dealer may be tryin to make 500 bucks or is in denial.

The 26500 was accounting for the almost 2 grand in taxes and costs since I figured those in full on the new one. So 24500 or so trade in.

I traded a 99 3 dr with 20k miles, for a 2000 4 dr that I ORDERED that listed for 32600 which is a little more than the 99 for less than $5000 including tax out the door.

Best of luck, it is only $500

I don't know about the rest of you, but I think it's time to summmarize all this MPG talk. Here's what I've found from these threads (actual mpg reports, not sales talk):
    Vortec 6000 (4.10 axle) 11.5 to 13.5 mpg
    12.7 mpg avg
    Vortec 8100 (3.73 axle) 9 to 15 mpg
    10.8 mpg avg
    Duramax 6600 (3.73 axle) 15 to 17.9 mpg
    16.2 mpg avg
If you want a cost breakeven figure between the Vortec 8100 vs Duramax 6600, you spend an extra $2976 for the Duramax and you get it back after driving 113,000 mi. This is based on diesel costing about 20 cents more/gal in Alabama. If someone wants the formula for this breakeven, I can post it. Sure, the Duramax lasts longer but it really comes down what you really want and not the bucks.

    I'm in the process of ordering a 2500HD CrewCab w/ Vortec 8100, 3.73 axle -- to pull a max 12,700 GVWR 5th-wheel RV. The towing guide says I can pull 13,100 to 13.300 with the 8100 + 3.73 axle.

It's a long-bed, because despite all this talk about "no problem with short-bed and FW RV" a short-bed will likely decapitate my kids in the back seat if there's ever a jackknife situation of the FW. Unless someone out there can guarantee that the FW will ALWAYS break away from the hitch -- I stick with the long-bed.
  • wgiwgi Member Posts: 2
Oh, I forgot to mention: why don't I want the 6000 for my 2500HD? I want the Allison transmission. Don't think you can get that with the smaller Vortec engine.
  • n75v111n75v111 Member Posts: 243
Hey - I'm glad for the heads up on possible Incentives etc. I was only checking out the ext. cab versions however -- 3/4 ton models with C6P options. C6P option is the SO CALLED 2500 HD models with 8600 GVW which I think was just XC in '00- Not CC's so if any of you have a CC better check it out and I was only looking at the central states area and as Hunter points out this is an area by area deal. Assumed it would have been same in all areas but didn't go to trouble of punching up each area to check.

    9 to 15??.....must be towing for 9?

    what about the 8100/4:10?

I still think the 4:10 may be overkill...but the one I drove felt good in the city and highway.

what's the RPM of an 8.1/Allison/4:10 on the highway at 75...anyone?

    - Tim
  • hunter98hunter98 Member Posts: 273
Should be somewhere between 2400, and 2500. It will feel better on the highway, because you always have more power on tap without needing to shift. I think the 4.10 would be ideal with 285 tires.

    Hunter
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    if I get a CC 8.1..it's gonna be 4:10's with 245's or 285's..

  • markbuckmarkbuck Member Posts: 1,021
Only one issue with your post on mileage.

"Sure, the Duramax lasts longer but it really comes down what you really want and not the bucks"

I got my doubts that PU diesels really last much longer than gas engines when driven in identical situations.....

looking for "take-off's" from any of yawl upgrading from the stock wheels on your 2500HD's.

I need two complete sets of wheels for my new HD. One set to run studded snow tires for use here at 7,000' in the winter, and will run highway truck tires on the other set in the summer.

I like narrow tires, will be running either LT245/75-16 E or LT235/85-16 E range tires, which will work great with stock 2500HD wheels. Anybody out there ready to sell?

PS. Will have a set of stock painted steel wheels to sell from my '99 Silverado when I trade it in.

    Thanks, Buck

Thanks for the bnsf web site loyalgmguy. I called my dealer today and was told that the truck had shipped and he was expecting it Wednesday. I tried the VIN# on the bnsf site but it couldn't find it,so it may have shipped some other way. I also asked about the incentives and financing deals and he said "Not on THAT truck" and I said "But,But,But....I read on Edmunds..." and he cut me off and said "That's for the 3/4 ton with the 8600 GVWR, yours is the HD which is a 9200 GVWR".
I also caught a $175 difference in what his current invoice shows vs what he originally quoted. He double checked and sure enough the base price had gone up$175. He said he should be price protected on that and will check in the morning. I was surprised it only went up $175. So we'll see.
Am I the only sucker out here that bought the auxillary battery? I figured since I WAS getting the HD afterall, it sure seemed like the 'Tim Allen' thing to do."Extra Battery GOOOOOOOD, More Power ARRGHH, ARRGHH, ARRRRGGHHHHH!"

First, Message #417 by cwz. I believe the Silverado is equipped with the tranny gauge if you order BOTH the automatic and trailering package. Otherwise it is a blank.

I was in a Chev dealer to look at and drive an 8.1/Allison and none in stock. They showed me a stack of special orders an inch thick for 2500HD with the 8.1/Allison. In the meanwhile they have a hundred 1500 and 2500 on the lot begging to be sold. I question GM marketing savvey.

I got the dual batteries too. You never know what you are going to put on the truck later, i.., winch, lights, snow plow, etc. Why not pay the $125 and have the battery there for when it comes. Plus you don't have to hassle with wiring it in yourself. Hell, I got the block heater and snow plow package, and I live in callas! But who knows, I might take a job up North in a year or something, so my truck is ready wherever I go.

I tried to order the aux battery, was told it was not available with CA Emmissions equipment. On the Silverado group I was told the wiring harness is present on all Silverados. So, I ordered the relay and battery tray and installed my own aux battery.

The best part of the aux battery is that it is isolated from the main battery. You can run the 2nd battery down and still have the main battery to start the truck and then recharge the aux battery.

If anybody want a detailed instruction sheet on part numbers and installing the aux battery, I have the sheet that Vince4 wrote and can send it to anyone who wants it.

    I got 12.5 mixed 6.0 4:10's 8600GVW 2500 Ex.cab
  • hunter98hunter98 Member Posts: 273
It depends on the way the battery is set up. If it is a true Auxillary or backup like on a motorhome fine. But if they are wired in tandem, you are better off with with one GOOD deep cycle and high crank battery. Have converted numerous combines, tractors, ect on the farm to one big battery. Lots better off, if you have a dead cell on 1 battery, will run both down. First time a two battery setup has problems or needs replacing we go to one, will still start just as good.

  • roger350roger350 Member Posts: 157
    Mike,

Since you seem to know about how the Aux. Battery is wired, do you know if you can use it to jump start the truck if the main is dead? I had hoped to find something in the manual about that, but of course there isn't. Not sure whether it might hurt something? I know you could always just switch the batteries around, but jumping them would be easier. Thanks.

10/12 is a good day for the 496...i have heard numerous 9-10MPG...so that 3-5MPG difference....thats one reason....if the 10/12 MPG comes from driving like grandma at 55MPH then i would get 8MPG cuz i drive 75-80 back and forth to work...get a consistent 12.5 mixed driving..and that is pushing 2300-2500 rpm's...if i could drive 60 and keep the rpms i might be able to get 16 or so, but realisticly who can drive that slow all the time??? not me thats for sure..
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
Hunter - The factory setup includes a relay that isolates the aux battery from the main system when the power is off.

Roger - You should be able to jumpstart yourself with the aux battery. That is my plan if I ever need it, but the truck shuts off everything after 20 minutes, so my main cause of dead batteries is gone.

The only thing I don't like about the factory setup is the fact that they remove the passenger side fender brace to install the battery. It must have some purpose in life or it wouldn't be there. So, I got a small Odyssey battery that fit under the brace and left the brace in place.

I've been waiting for MC to build a 2500HD CC, 8.1/Allison since Oct. My TAW has been put back twice and (fingers crossed) its being asembled this week. Just in case they put it back again I've started checking dealers again and they now have the trucks. Bay Chewy/Mobile, AL has 2 crew cabs 2500s, one a duramax/Allison and the other a 6.0/auto, also an ex cab. Southern Chewy, Fogey AL has 2 crew cabs again DMax/Allison and I believe the other was an 8.1/Allison, also an ex cab or two. I was told today that Pete More Chevy, Pensacola, FL has 3 crew cabs with 8.1s and I don't know what else. Guess if they put back my tpw again I can just go shopping.

As for dual batteries, if they're hooked up to work together like GM used to do be sure to replace BOTH at the same time. If you don't the old one will pull down the memory on the new one in no time at all.

Thanks markbuck, I didn't realize the 2500HD with the 6.0 only came with 4.10 gears. Wonder why that is? Guess what throwed me off track was the salesman I talked with last week said no problem when I mentioned the 3.73 gears.

OD, here is the straight out truth on mileage for this truck. I am a retired trucker and so I go with the flow of traffic referring to keeping to or above the posted speed limits.
I have 5000 miles on the unit. I was getting 13.5 MPG hi way/ 12 around town, 10.0 pulling my 22ft boat with -Top at posted speeds up to 70 mph up to the first 2500 miles. Took a trip to East Texas. Round trip was 2500 miles. Got 13.5 out there from my home in NC. Brought back 4 flatbed Utility trailers with a height of 12' and a weight of 6600lbs. I ran from NC to Texas both ways on the southern route of I-20. I pulled the trailers the same as I ran out empty which was 65-75mph. My mileage coming back at this speed with this load was 7.77 mpg. These are honest numbers. I feathered the pedal on the hills and ran in Overdrive in Towing Mode part of the trip home and in Drive with towing mode part of the trip. mileage worked out the same. And now your know the rest of the story.

My 2000 2500 LT freezes the feet of whoever is setting in the passenger seat. Over the Christmas holiday my wife and I used a blanket to keep our feet warm while driving from Colorado to Tennessee and back in 12 degree temperatures. The heater puts out hot air, it just doesn't direct much of it into the passenger footwell.

My dealer has contacted Tech. Assistance, they've verified that everything is working correctly but don't have any fix for this. According to Customer Assistance GM is investigating Silverado heater problems with a "Poor Heating Performance Review", but they can't tell me when or if anything will ever be done to correct this.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Took delivery on 2/1 on my 8.1,CC,Allison, SLE, 3.73. Just filled up for the first time. All miles were around town, but were very easy. MPG figured at 10.4. Planning a 500 mile trip this weekend and will post MPG. I also ordered the aux battery. Not sure how I'll use it. Also ordered the auto climate control. It's a little strange getting used to because the fan doesn't blow cold air until the engine warms up. Automatic headlights are an interesting feature as well. Overall, the truck runs and rides great, and I like it. sf0383 - hope you can find your truck on the bnsf site. Mine didn't appear until three days after the dealer thought it had been shipped. Thoroughly enjoyed tracking the truck across the country.

yeah Dean....but it's fun to tease myself in between purchases!

    ....I'd buy this one...but it's sunset Gold....not orange...and it's an LS.....Timmy wants an LT again....and not sure I want the 3:73's with future plans for 285's to 305's....

    :(

...and I didn't check to see if it had that bad bad bad locker!

    LOL

    - Tim

....on the heater thing...I have a 2000 2500 LT...and it pumps out heat on both sides.....perhaps even more on the passenger side...as most cars do.

    Good Luck
