You can also check the insulators for the front springs. Lastly, check your brakes though I doubt it is your brakes.
  • redsilveradoredsilverado Member Posts: 1,000
funny you should mention the cab mounting insulators. that's exactly what my dealer's service department looked at when i complained of the creaks. they replaced the rear mounts and found that the ones in front had never been tightened properly or had somehow worked loose. the center bolts were tight as a drum. it's been quiet ever since they did the work.
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
When I installed the boards....mine were all different torques...and it was barely a month old...a couple were pretty tight...while others were almost hand tight...

anyone have a book that says what they are supposed to be?....I tightened them up pretty snug....can't remember that long ago to estimate...but the rubber was uniformly squished

there were people there but on the other side of the beach. I found that spot on my offroad excusrion

I hope she is better looking
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
Ryan, once you get all the accessories for your truck bought and paid for you should think about getting a new digital camera. It'll make your truck look so much better! Anyway then we could actually see these scratches you keep collecting.
  • vince4vince4 Member Posts: 1,268
Took the truck in today. They managed to find a tiny chip below the wiper so no warranty. I guess that really is the cause. I suppose the off-road foray and then washing it in the sun caused enough additional stress to let it rip. I'm sure it would have cracked eventually anyway. Time to call AAA.

Hey Ryan, I think our BFGs are pretty good tires. I just pulled a piece of metal out of one. It had about 1" inside the tire but at an angle. I pulled it out and no leak, at least not yet.

Yeah, only 937 miles to date. I really babied it for the first 500, and haven't done much in the second 500. Nerf bars, new oil and filter (and cab bolt tightness check) tomorrow night.

Nice pics of the truck, but how about a better pic of the gf for us? Ha! What part of the Lake Michigan beach is that?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
I have had pics of us posted on tims site. As a matter of fact i have a real nice pic of us and in the background is my truck haha. I should send it to tim to post.

I put about 1200 miles on my truck the first weekend i got it (never got out of it)

The pics were taken at the indiana dunes. Out by chesterton indiana.

Oh, you're a FIB, then. ;-) Drive north on the Lake Michigan beach a few hours and you'll reach my home turf. (Although the Air Force makes me live other places.)

I parked in between a new Ford and a new Dakota this morning. Can't figure out if my truck is safe being by two new vehicles or at risk for making them both look like crap. Hmmm.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
    FIB?
  • michgndrmichgndr Member Posts: 160
F..... Indiana Bastage. Used as a label for Indiana and Illinois folks (mostly the tourists and resorters who wander north in the summer and clog our roads).
Dn't take it personally, though. I'm sure you guys have neat terms for Michiganders too.

Trend mileage over 945 miles is 15.8. Mostly city. Not so bad.
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
um tell you the truth nope no nicknames for people from michigan. Only nicknames are people from wisconsin we call them cheeseheads.

Are you anywhere near muskegon? I used to go up there a few times every summer

    Ryan
  • michgndrmichgndr Member Posts: 160
Whitehall. Close enough? What do you do in Muskegon?

Actually I'm in St. Louis now. But once I eventually retire from the AF stuff, I'm going home again. Seen the world, didn't much care for it....
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
moms friend from hs used to live there. We usually took a weekend and visited and went to a water park up there.

She lives in NH now. Her other friend lives in kansas and we are gonna go there for memorial day weekend
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157

All, thanks for the links for the service manuals.

Also, the delivery time for my truck was March 23 to May 3. Brain fade on my part.

Next question, how do you remove the center caps on the alloy wheels with out bending the caps and scratching the wheel? The manual just says "pry them off".

    Thanks, Scott
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
Schifer, if you have the 1500 alloy wheels, PF9, you DO have to loosen the plastic wheel nuts before you can pry it off.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
    that's a good one.
  • mpalombompalombo Member Posts: 186
I just got done with my first coat of Z5. Man that stuff smells good! I washed it twice with Dawn, put a coat of Z1 and a coat of Z5. It was dry in about half an hour but I waited a few more minutes just to be safe. I can't believe how easily and cleanly it came off. The only problem that I had, and it was very minor, is the Z1. I couldn't tell where I had applied it in some spots. But the end result was great. I am very happy with it. I am going to put at least 1 more coat of Z5, maybe more, before my final coat of Z2. I hope to be completely done with it this weekend, I'll let you know how it turns out.

    Mark

Oh, one more thing. I had my 15,000 mile service this week, the truck is running like it is new again. Kind of expensive but it sure is running great.
  • schiferschifer Member Posts: 15
Thanks for the info on the wheel centers. The manual is a little unclear.

To the fellow who was ROTFLMFAO; no, I did not bend up my centers. I ask to avoid bending things or breaking off fake lug nuts.

    Scott
  • redsilveradoredsilverado Member Posts: 1,000
the ROTFLMFAO thing was for fun, which is how most of us go about the conversations in here. i'm sure it wasn't directed at you in the way it looks like you may have taken it. actually, the guy that said it is one of the most helpful members here, not to mention that he is also one of the most generous. what is funny though, is that GM gives out owners manuals that are most helpful in some areas, and completly vague in others. just the other day a guy was trying to find the flip out note pad holder that no longer exists. kinda ironic if you think about how much you just spent on a truck and the manual shows items that aren't even in the truck.
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
Right. Oby, tell him you're sorry!
About the first 100 pages is on how to put on your seat belts. That's the general!
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Would be nice if i could do it was planning on putting on a coat tomorrow. BUT NOOOOOOOO i washed my truck today and an hr later it rained.

    *(&#^%&*)@^%$*&

  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
..you always complain about that problem....you know boss...they have this program...(brand new...just came out)...where a guy stands in front of a map wearing a cheesy coat and tells about the weather......check it out before you wash the truck sport!

    LOL

also checked my nifty weatherbug (computer program) didnt show anything on the radar.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
I'm glad you got your problem all worked out. I'm really sorry....but I can't stop laughing.
  • sf0383sf0383 Member Posts: 204
I guess I'll ask too. How do you get to the lug nuts on the 2500HDs?
  • danogdanog Member Posts: 318
Ryan, you sure the neighbors weren't spraying their water hoses? HEHEH
    Dano
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
Just like the other trucks. You remove the center cap by pretending the black plastics nuts are lug nuts and loosen them. Then the cap falls off. Then you can see and remove the lug nuts.

Don't overtighten the black plastic nuts when you re-install the plastic cap. Tighten them finger tight, then about 1/4 turn more or until you feel a click, whichever is less.

Sorry, Ryan, but I installed my Cabelas SSteel nerf bars myself. I have access to a auto shop with about every tool imaginable. Rented a bay (with a rack) for 2.5 hours for $10. Buddy and I put the nerfs on. Pretty easy, no knuckle damage.

Did the rig's first oil change too (first time I've EVER done one myself, I have to admit). Used QS 5W-30 dino oil and a Bosch filter at 990 miles. Are Bosch filters any good? Man, was there some nasty stuff stuck to the magnet on the drain plug! I'm kicking myself for not doing my oil changes for the last ten years. Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.

Anybody have the post # handy where the experienced guys (bco?) were talking about zerks and what inexpensive grease gun to get?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
heres his site with all the zerk photos

I need some help. I have a film on my front chrome rims & would like to remove it? Any suggestions without ruining my rims? Gave it a couple of good washings - no avail. Thanks.

    ..you guys are terrible!

    LOL

    - Tim
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
was the film caused by a chemical? something used to clean the rim?
  • blackmax200blackmax200 Member Posts: 255
is pictured here now that it is complete. Red I did choose to use carpet as it was less expensive than gelcoat and easier to work with. Since this does not get wet, the fiberglass will be OK.

Looks great! You might think about some marketing or something. The last three items my dad made 25yrs ago are now on sale at $10-$35 a piece. He said he never thought someone would actually need one.

  • brophbroph Member Posts: 85
I think it was caused by going thru the car wash & the car in front of me had a wax job or something.

I can't access the TSB database from home, but there is a TSB regarding the rims.

83-35-08 NOV 98 Chemical Staining of Chrome Wheels

Post if you need additional info.

    Matt-

    Looks awesome....got a patent?
  • michgndrmichgndr Member Posts: 160
Is it accessible, or do you have to pay for the privilege?
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
is paid for one way or another.....bottom line...it's not free.
