We are trying to stay on budget, so the limited wasn't worth the extras that we wanted. Besides, I like the black fenders with the Patriot blue exterior, gives it a real 4x4 look. Don't get me wrong, the limited is an awesome looking truck, but like I said, we wanted to stay within our means, and the dealer met the price we were expecting to pay, plus knocked off about 500.00 for the order. Fullerton Jeep, Somerville NJ.
Overall, was extremely happy with our order. Our dealer was super nice, called every two weeks or so to give us a status, and today he called with the rail car#. So I'll be checking status over the web, and will hopefully have photos after our vacation. Planning on a family trip to the Outerbanks of NC, so hopefully some 4x4n' on the sand dunes will be in order.

PS: Tony, good luck with your new vehicle. What part of PA do you live in? If your somewhere near west NJ we should think about a Jeep Liberty East Coast club or something to that effect. Just an idea.
silver limited w/gpkg, ABS, SAB, heated seats and limited slip differnetial.
TONY - good luck and congrats on the new liberty
if in the East go to www.csx.com
My previous experience with another nearby dealership, which will remain nameless, was a complete nightmare. On May 30 I place an order for a Libby Limited 4WD w/ABS/Select-trac/Sunroof ect. After waiting a month I called DC only to find out the order was cancelled due to dealer allocation....of course the dealership had no clue this had happened. Being a glutton for punishment I let them reorder only to find out last week per DC that they had ordered a 2WD w/no sunroof and it was already in production.......I went balistic. Of course the sales manager tried to put the blame on me because I was getting info from DC and it was "messing them up??" The moral is: if you place an order have DC VERIFY that all of your options were ordered before it's to late also don't tolerate Dealerships that don't communicate with you.

I have a question for Liberty owners who have the running boards. Is the installation fairly simple? I plan on purchasing them over the Internet.
I'd like to get a front end cover or something to keep debris from doing a job on the front end, but do not see accessories listed for the Liberty on the Jeep web site. Also, how do they plan on fitting the tailgate with a bike rack with the spare tire there? I'd hate to have to put the bikes on the roof.

Would this be too much weight on the tailgate door?

I hope you feel better after venting, because your post really offered no helpful information. Good luck shopping, I guess we won't be seeing you around this board often!

You don't seem to have a problem with spending a few extra bucks. If that's the case, I really suggest you try out the Mercedes SUV. The price difference between it and the Highlander is not much different than the difference between the Highlander and the Liberty. My Audi service department provided one as a loaner recently. On later picking up my car, I commented rather positively on this fine machine. They mentioned that they've had several sales come about as a result of loaning out this SUV. Sure wish I could afford one.
By the way, the likelihood of your being dissatisfied with your Mercedes sales or service departments would be very, very slim (as opposed to what I've heard about dealing with the Toyota folks).
Anyhow, good luck in the search for your ideal vehicle.
I bought a liberty because I also liked the looks of it, read all the early reviews and saw in the brochures that it stood apart from the competition for solid toughness and 4wd system. but a major reason I bought one was also because I "just had a gut feeling" about this SUV. Time will prove that right or wrong. Most of this gut feeling is that I believe a big part Daimler/Chrysler's financial future is riding on this vehicle to be a success. and I think it will be. after all, even with the problems the GC has, where I live, you cannot take a 3 mile drive anywhere without seeing at least dozen GC's.
Now for the Toyota myth. I have owned three of these buggers. The last one rotted in my driveway because it would not quit leaking oil. I had it back to the dealer five times in two weeks. The problem could never be fixed. The other two had trouble running at highway speeds and keeping one cool inside. I was never so hot in a car before. The AC is marginal to say the least. I decided after looking at the Highlanders in my area (my neighbor works at the local Toyota dealership) that I would go with an american vehicle this time. The Highlanders were way over priced for another Camery platform. I also looked at the Tribute - no true 4WD, Subaru Forestor - not high enough, Ford Explorer - nice but expensive and out of my budget. I decided that I would go with Jeep. I also got a rebate for being a realtor from Jeep. So far so good. I think I made the right decision. At this point I am satisfied with the dealer and the Liberty.
They put the trucks through hell... Liberty did great.
Guess what they used as a support vehicle to haul extra tires gear etc... an XTerra- they KNEW that would make it!
Bob
The Highlander is nothing but a Camry with a lift and extra space, plus about 6grand added to the price.
We purchased our Liberty after many months of searching for the right vehicle. Trib/Escape - Cheap feeling, and all of those recalls and problems. GMC Jimmy - A lot of plastic, and a lot of problems. CRV - Nice, but no cigar for the money. The Liberty (in my opinion) is a great looking 4x4 family vehicle, awesome driving experience, and a lot of years of experience behind it. Good luck in your search.

To me (5'10", 178#) X is very comfortable.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Liberty A LOT, I test drove one a BUNCH of times, almost bought one before choosing the X.
I like ABS standard, limited slip standard, 6 disc standard on the X SE. And the 3.3L is a VERY tried and true dependable motor, albeit less than impressive MPG for the power. I might add, the Lib doesn't boast a scorching 0-60 either for that matter.
15/19mpg on the X vs 16/20 on the Lib. That 1 mpg doesn't add up to much and could be easily overcome by good driving habits.
I don't regret NOT buying a Lib, but still think they are a great value and okay looking.
But from here on, I'll stay at the Xterra board to sing its praises since this is a Liberty board. To all good luck, sweet truck!
the triscape is supposedly based on a mazda 626 chassis, the Cr-v is a Civic the highlander a camry, Rav-4 who knows corolla maybe.
the ones that come close are the xterra and the suzuki XL-7. I would also consider the forester closer only because subaru's 4wd is as legendary as jeeps. if jeep wrote the book, subaru wrote the epilogue. of course all these assesments are IMO.

I notice you don't have cross bars on your roof rack. I've seen vehicles without them...the Escape came with them. I thought they were supposed to come with?
BTW, I took a trip to Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin this weekend. Saw some great scenery, and also saw a Dodge Durango that was completely covered with mud from head to toe, driving along at 65 MPH. You couldn't even see what color it was! I guess they had fun that day...about all I saw up there were SUV's--I felt like I was in good company. Didn't see any Libs, though, strangely enough. Saw 3 Escapes.
I will do the same. (starting tomorrow)
"I might add, the Lib doesn't boast a scorching 0-60 either for that matter."
I agree with the ABS being standard. It should be. But stating that the Lib doesn't boast a scorching 0-60 times? I just watched Motorweek on PBS on Saturday, they said that their Liberty did the 0-60 in 8.8 seconds. That's about 2 or 3 seconds faster than the Xterra.
Tony - Awesome looking Sport. Should be receiving ours in a week or so. Will also post pictures somewhere.

The Liberty weighs probably a good 800 - 1000 pounds more than the Rav4. In fact, I'm sure it's quite a bit heavier than the Highlander too.
Bob
the rav-4 is by itself somewhere
its the highlander that I think is the odd man out. as the commercials say "nicely equipped" for the highlander means sticker in excess of 30 grand. at that price there is a lot better trucks (real trucks) out there.
Tony
Tonysracing--how do you figure out MPG? I've heard there are different ways.
For example, if I were to assume I had a full tank of gas when I left the dealership (they said they filled it, and the needle was just short of full), I went 300 miles before a fill-up. So, with the Escape tank of 15 gal, that would mean I got 20 MPG (that's with a lot of stopping, hills, turns, and curves). Is is that simple?
1. Fill up your tank.
2. Reset your trip odometer.
3. Drive until you need a fill up. (The more miles you go between fillups, the more accurate)
4. Fill up your tank.
5. Read off the gallons used from the pump
6. Read off the miles from your trip odometer
7. MPG = miles/gallons
