    he guys,
I remember a problem like this from a few years ago. I have a 97 wrangler. no problems. but a friend had one too. had an aftermarket antenna on it. same design as the libs have now. he had a problem with water leaking into his jeep. after having the dealer check it out a couple of times... they replaced some type of grommet where it connects to the side of the body. hasn't had a leak since. acromell..you may want to have your dealer check this out for you.

    hope this helps

Just got back from placing my order of a 2002 Jeep Liberty Sport....Flame Red, package 27B, deep tint, ABS, and speed cont. (cruise) :-) Big step for me, but I'm 100% pleased that I did it. Of course the dealer couldn't give me any idea when the restrictions would be lifted off the ABS, but that isn't too much of a big deal to me. It just gives me more time to save money for the down payment! I'll keep everyone updated, the dealer is going to call when he finds out that the restriction has been lifted.

What are people paying and where in DFW, TX? Who is making the best deals? I am looking for a Limited, G pkg, Sunroof, ABS, side airbags, heated seats.

Sorry forgot to mention the 4x4 part! Of course I got 4 wheel drive.... can't see why anyone would buy an SUV and not get it :-) But I live in Northern MI and have to deal with snow almost half of the year.

My price was $21,045 before the 6% MI sales tax
:-( Grrr. Although, that price is based on Employee Pricing.... which I did find out more about. It's the MSRP minus dealer communication programs ($20), minus other dealer fees (aprox. $415 in my case), minus dealer holdback (3% of vehicle cost minus the destination fee of $585, which comes out to about $700). The sticker price on my vehicle was around 23,500 don't remember the exact price. Hope I didn't confuse any of you too much with that last paragraph :-) I'm confused myself still on Employee pricing.... all I know is it's saving me about $2000 and that's great!

It seems as though DC loaded the dealerships up with the Sports but light on the Limiteds. The dealers around here claim that the Limited are the ones moving and in short supply. Seems to be true. Been searching for 2 weeks for a Woodland Brown Limited 4WD with G pkg and heated seats. Found only 2 within 150 miles of home in MD. Gone the next day. DC told me that a Limited could not be ordered until end of August and then wait another 8+ weeks for delivery.. Kinda wanted this puppy before Turkeyday. Finally today, I found a Woodland Brown Limited, 4WD, G pkg, heated seats, tow pkg, off road pkg and 6 disc CD for $250 over invoice in NC. Needless to say, the dealer has my deposit and I am headed to NC on Friday (800 mile round trip). Should be a good shakedown trip home.

It's great to hear that people will even drive 800 miles round trip to pick up a new Lib. Good luck with it. Should be picking mine up in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Hey you guys, give a girl a break! ;) I'm a homeowner, so I love [smaller] SUV's becuase they can haul stuff like ladders and antique dressers, etc., while still providing a vehicle my mom, who has slight mobility problems, can get into without too much of a problem. I need to learn about off-roading, but I'm that consumer who is new to that part of SUV's.

Besides, without all of you, who would I ask?? Just being a blonde...;)

Did I also mention that what I need is a vehicle I can throw a coupla bikes in, and go with a friend to any of our great forests, bike for the day, change, and go back into town for dinner without worrying about the bikes getting stolen (as opposed to putting them up top)?

Who knows, maybe I'll get into the off-road thing eventually!

I've done the biking thing you described with my 92 Civic hatchback and a cable lock.

BTW, a skidplate is what protects parts underneath your car.

Don't worry, we've all been there too. Some of us just got to the party a couple of hours early and think we've found all the exits. Check out the Womens Auto Center Board too.

Hey, lovethosesuv's, I wish you well, and hope you learn a lot about SUV's. Please ask questions. I do not claim ANY expertise (I am a relative newcomer too, though I've read 4X4 magazines since a kid), and might also learn from your questions. If I can help answer some, cool. If not, oh well.

    Enjoy!

Hello all Liberty fans! Thank goodness for Edmunds.com, I've learned so much over the past 6 months. I've been lurking on this board for the last month or so and wanted to finally contribute my Liberty story since I now have something to report: Ordered a Liberty Sport on 7/10 and have a ship date of 8/3. I thought that was rather fast when the dealer told me the other day, but I was able to confirm that on the phone (thanks to directions on this board) with DC yesterday. I will call after 8/3 to get the railcar#.

Ordered Liberty Sport, Patriotic Blue w/taupe interior, CommandTrac, B package, Trailer tow group, side airbags, fog lights, deep tint glass, Infinity system, speed control, sunroof, and security. All for $300 over invoice. I was told it would take about 8 weeks and we figured on beginning to mid Sept for delivery. Was I surprised when the dealer said it would be built by 8/3. Looks like I'll have it for Labor Day.

An observation on the ABS situation: My first minivan was a DC Caravan. It was the first year they were offering ABS and the dealer told me then that it would take at least 6 weeks additional for the breaks, plus he remarked that the parts for the ABS were in short supply causing delays for repairs/replacements. And this was halfway into the car year already! I ordered it w/o ABS and didn't have any regrets. My next non-DC van had ABS, but they wouldn't have helped in the accidents I had. I've ordered the Liberty w/o ABS and hope this was the right decision. My only other concern is about rollovers and that's a wait-and-see thing. I need a vehicle now and can't wait for the reports. Let's hope that DC did their homework on this one.

there was some talk awhile ago about the liberty being "tippy" at hwy speeds while changing lanes.

any new owners experience anything like this yet?

OK, you guys are all right! Check out the Escape board for a funny post from Currey! Maybe I should have named myself "Barbie" instead of "lovethosesuvs"! You all made me laugh!

Guess sometimes you just luck out. Just took delivery of a Ltd 4WD with G Package, ABS/Moonroof/Off Road/Tow/Side Air and heated seats in Patriot Blue only thing missing was 6 CD changer but I can live without that, what a great looking vehicle. Dealer traced it last friday inbound to another dealer and he traded it out for me yesterday. I had seached all over Texas for that color/Spec and could not find any and after all the comments on this board regarding ristrictions I had was expecting a long wait to get ABS/Moonroof combo. Could not believe my luck when the dealer called me last night and said he had got it. Best of all he sold at invoice which here in Dallas/FW includes about $350 of Advertizing fees.
First impressions are excellent hope it will hold up in the long run.

How did you get a vehicle with ABS..I thought it was restricted until Aug. 20th? Let me know the details.
  • winbrowinbro Member Posts: 235
ABS & moonroof in a ltd/g pkg is indeed RARE.

    mine will just have ABS
  • TobyjugTobyjug Member Posts: 13
I believe the ABS restriction was lifted for a period and then reinstated. The invoice date was July 16 and the last 5 digits of the VIN which I think is the number built is 47670. Even more surprising is that this has Moonroof I believe there was only a couple of weeks when both ABS & Moonroof were unresticted, this would jibe with other comments I have seen here. This vehicle was delivered to dealer yesterday so I guess a batch of ABS/Moonroof examples must just be hitting the lots now.

My last 5 digits are 59272..if that makes any sense. I have an a build date now in the 2nd week of August, that is in the dealers computer. But DC emailed to say that mine isn't even scheduled until Aug. 20th, w/ABS and moonroof. Who do you think is right and how long does it take from build to ship to ship? Thanks.
  • TobyjugTobyjug Member Posts: 13
That would make sense as I think they build 3 to 4 thousand per week so 12000 would be about 3 to 4 weeks after mine which would put it at Mid August, however, if ABS is back on hold that would mean they build out of sequence. Mine took 2 weeks from Invioce to dealer. Assuming that invoice is cut when build is complete and allowing 2 days for build time plus a couple of days wiggle room would work out at approx 3weeks from start of build to delivery. However, this is second hand speculation, perhaps someone who has tracked there vehicle from start to finish can cut in a give you a more accurate build to ship to delivery time.

    Hello All,

I bought my Liberty Sport with CD a week ago and want to add a portable MP3 player to the system. I'd prefer to avoid using an FM modulator for signal quality reasons. Some car manufacturers make a RCA audio adaptor that fits on the rear of their CD players. Does anyone know if the Liberty has one or is making one? Aftermarket companies?

I keep reading about individuals paying X amount of dollars over cost but what cost are they referring to? Is cost the MSRP, Edmunds TMV price, dealers invoice, dealers invoice plus destination? I can go on but I think you get the idea. For those lucky enough to have already purchased, can you please outline what cost it is you are referring to when you say, I got mine for X amount over cost?

I am currently closing on a home so I will have to wait a month or so before I head out to purchase but before I go I sure would like a clear understanding of what others are paying for their Liberties.

Last, I would like to hear some general reviews (engine performance, turning at speed, off road ability, driving in rain, etc.) from those who are already out crusing their Liberties.

    Thanks. ;-)

I got a call from my dealer today and when he looked at his report this morning it showed that ABS are not on restrictions at this time. He didn't have a build date for me yet, but looks like I will be getting my Liberty about a month quicker than I expected. He said that I could get it quicker if I had my brother "pull some strings" but I told him no, I didn't want to do that. The more time I have to say money the better. I just hate borrowing any more than I have to from the bank and then paying them outrageous amounts in interest :-) Now I have to find that post with all the codes and the phone # so I can call and get my build date!!

John, cost usually refers to dealer invoice.

You may do better to wait out the initial buying frenzy on this model. Some folks are getting discounts already, which bodes well for you.

I ordered a Jeep Liberty Monday, my price was the Edmunds invoice plus 393 assorted costs the dealer put in his invoice. Plus another 245 for dealer profit. In short 638 over the Edmunds invoice.

In central New York it is snowy & very salty 5-mos/year, has anyone had good/bad experiences with rust-proofing/under-coating by rust proofing companies? The dealer offers a like service, but I passed on all their extended warranty's & the like. Maybe these new vehicles really don't need it like the older models?
  • chetelmchetelm Member Posts: 5
There was an article in Road and Track years ago about extra rustproofing. The conclusion was that it would do far more harm than good. Rustproofing on cars today is far superior to the 80's and particularly the 70's. They have plastic liners to prevent salt being splashed up on the inside of your fenders and the such.

My wife and I ordered a Liberty Limited 27G with every option except engine block heater on 7/6/01. This makes ours one of the rare Moonroof & ABS combinations.

I called today (8/1/01) to check on the order status and the DC rep told me it is currently "BX" (passed edit available for schedule). The rep said that this means that it should be scheduled for assembly "any time now".

I thought someone might find my order status helpful considering all the questions about restrictions on ABS. It's been nearly four weeks to this point, and our dealer told us that the ABS restriction was coming off on August 13th.

I'll check back on the status of our Liberty's schedule and build process periodically and post if anyone is interested.

Thanks to the person who posted the status listings from http://dodgeram.org/buying_info/Order_status.htm

I have a real problem. I really like the way the Sport looks on the outside, but I like the Limited interior much better, including the leather seats and the power driver’s seat. I also read on another board that there is more sound insulation on the Limited than the Sport. Is there any truth to this?
  • tonyfjrtonyfjr Member Posts: 18
what are the last 5 digits on your VIN number? I think this tells me possibly a kind of order they were built in? mine is 59272 and I have a second week of Aug. build date. It has been five weeks now since I ordered this suv.

Did I see on above posts that you were quoted prices in Massachusetts that were very low? If so, which dealer(s)? I've been looking at the Liberty's and Grand Cherokees in southeastern Mass. I also test drove a Liberty last night with a leather interior. The seats seem like concrete when compared to my current car (1996 Grand Cherokee). But I figured that maybe they had to break in. To the Liberty owners out there with leather seats, is this the case?
  • burnt_toastburnt_toast Member Posts: 7
I actually ended up ordering in NH because it's just as close for me and I liked the dealer, but I did get a quote for $100 over invoice from Brigham-Gill in Natick, and nothing over invoice from Midway Motors in Framingham. I just faxed them what I wanted and never went to either dealer, so I'm assuming that anyone could get the same deals.

Just received a call from my dealer, said that our Liberty will be boarding a train either this afternoon or tomorrow morning. Gave me the rail car number. Two weeks time.

Patriot Blue Sport, 4x4 Selectrac, ABS, cd, speed control, deep tint windows, fog lamps, taupe interior. I cannot wait.

Looks like you didn't get a sunroof, but how much total order time? anyone else recently ordered a limited 4x4, ABS, sunroof, tow, and off-road pkg - what was the wait period?

Let me guess? Sutton Motors? Samara? Bancroft? Have you looked at the one in Ware?

Keep us posted as to your progress.

I don't think the VIN has been assigned yet. If it has, I didn't get it from the DC phone rep.
I will have to remember to ask that question next time I call for a status update.
    Two questions:
At what stage was your VIN assigned?
How frequently do you call for updates?

After 6 months of endless neurotic debate (the Escape? The Tribute? Xterra? Or maybe I could get another year or two out of my car?) I finally decided on the Liberty (Ltd. G package in black with ABS and side airbags) and now it looks like I'll have to wait forever for it! My dealer mentioned something about a website that you could go to track the progress of your Lib. being built, but he didn't know the address. Since I haven't seen it mentioned here I figured he was mistaken, but I thought I'd ask just in case anyone here had heard of this.

Tom Petty was right - the Waiting is the hardest part :-)

I'm through debating the merits and faults of the Santa Fe, Liberty and Escape. I drove a Pathfinder LE last night, and after getting the dealer down to $500 below invoice with 0.9% financing, I'm sold. The 2001 has a 240 HP Maxima engine and tranny, and there is no equal in the SUV category. Drive one and find out for yourself!
