but I have always thought that carrot cake (and fruit cake) sort of looked like.......... I have never heard anybody else put it into word quite so well!

Emily sometimes imitates the dog, lying on her back with her legs in the air. I have to scratch both simultaneously. I gotta tell you - it has a more positive effect on the mood of the dog than on her.

Actually, I owe Edmunds an apology for my question, Did CBS buy Edmunds?

It might have been misconstrued as a cheap shot at Edmunds, when of course I intended it a not-so-cheap shot at CBS.

Any posts removed here were undoubtedlty removed for a good reason.

In my three years or so here, I've only had one post removed. Steve informed me of the removal and shared his reasoning, so I have no complaints.

And since this is Patti's home forum, it's time for me to say "thank you, Patti," for all you've done for Subaru owners here. While I hope that I don't need your help for anything relating to my Forester, knowing that you're there really is a comfort.

Aw, that message you're referring to was just in the wrong place; I seem to recall sending you to the Cafe to repost it :-)

I did spend 5 minutes last night searching Google news for the CBS - Edmunds tie-in since I missed the thread!

btw Patti, if you really want to know what your old password was, there's a Forgot My Password link on the main Town Hall page.

I was the one banned...but I think I have a clean post now so here goes.

I think it's important to recognize the job that Patti and SoA do and the unique postion they put themselves in...one I haven't seen any other manufacturer dare to take.

However, I was very rudely insulted by an SoA rep yesterday. He used profanity, said he'd look into the problem "when he felt like it", stated he wished I was not a Subaru customer and then told me he was no longer interested in speaking with me. He non chalantly insulted me, berated me and then told me he didn't care if I did talk to his boss, she felt the same way.

I may be a demanding customer, but I'm also fair. I won't go into the details of the problems again, but I want the folks who come to these boards for information to be aware that not every interaction with SoA is positive. I was not happy that my posts were deleted yesterday but I followed what Edmunds said violated the rules and want this post to stick.....otherwise I question the usefulness of this forum for gathering impartial information for intelligent consumer decision making.

I also notified Patti of the person at SoA who made the comments. I hope they put a handle on him/her before another customer endures a verbal beating.

Now, I'm gonna go listen to my 2Live Crew albums.

aha, thanks for being civil with us then Luther. I mean, Stu. :) I saw your original post about the treatment you received but not anything that may have followed. I think any normal person would be pretty upset by that type of experience, too.

Stuart-
I agree too that any normal person will feel what you felt.

I was unable to reach you offline to suggest that it might be the bank at fault or insufficient info provided to the bank by the Dealer. The bank should create a "Bridge" loan to satisfy the older loan instead of creating a new loan all together and probably sent the money to the Dealer.

Two part story.
Part One - see Stuart's post.

Part Two - Summary:
There was a buy back.
New car delivered.
New car is financed.
Bought back car was also financed.
Stuart has dilemma of having 2 car loans.

Don't know if that was resolved.

stuart got a dog car.

SoA was great and said ok we will give ya a new one instead.

stuart was not thrilled with getting dog car in first place but happy with SoA stepping up and getting him a new one to replace the dog.

stuart should have just gotten the new car and nothing else as far as headaches. instead he is stuck in some sort of hell with chase bank with 2 loans. 1 being the original car and 1 being for the new car. apparently is also powerless to do anything about this second loan because it originated but dealer or SoA. he is stuck in some sort of paperwork/responsibility hell with having the dealer or SoA fixing this multiple loan problem and chase is coming after him

thats my take...

here that ever get's involved in a situation with a manufacturer. I won't share the details of Stuart's case (see heading) but FYI - with current "privacy laws" it is virtually impossible for anyone other than the name of person on the loan to intercede with a financial institution. They just won't work with outside parties. We can try to cajole, prompt, encourage, influence, etc. but are basically powerless.

We don't just give up when faced with that challenge, but it can be a source for a wicked headache. For the mess, I am truly sorry. But if you ever face that, just be aware that we have some limits with involvement too - even if we were the source of the original problem (the car in this case).

P. S. - thanks Steve. I wanted to try that but since my work PC is down, I can't access my e-mail where the password would have been sent - but it was kind of you to remind me of the option!

The CBS reference was due to that organization's recent acts of censorship. The current issue is the rejection of Move On's ad dollars for a Super Bowl commercial. A recent issue before the latest was that CBS chose to pull the plug on the Reagan documentary due to pressure from Republicans.

Here's a quote from that organization's Web site:

"During this year's Super Bowl, you'll see ads sponsored by beer companies, tobacco companies, and the Bush White House. But you won't see the winning ad in MoveOn.org Voter Fund's Bush in 30 Seconds ad contest. CBS refuses to air it. This is not a partisan issue. It's critical that our media institutions be fair and open to all speakers. CBS is setting a dangerous precedent, and unless we speak up, the pattern may continue."

Obviously, I agree.

Here, I didn't see the omitted posts, but do appreciate the explanation of what I missed. I sometimes deal with people who are frustrated and upset in my line of work. Sometimes it's not fun.

But moving on, let's hope that Patti has a long and successful career with SoA. "Live long and prosper."

Hayduke- FYI, we try to keep the crew discussions apolitical as not only is that off topic but also tends to quickly destroy the friendly camaraderie we have here.

Patti: I had a similar problem recently.

My mom is in Brazil, but keeps a US bank account, for several reasons. As in her son (me) can send her money once in a while! LOL

Any how, I'm basically the only one depositing money for her. She was paying these outrageous fees for services she didn't need, so I went to inquire about changing her checking plan.

No way, no how. Can't do it. Not even with her on the phone. Riggs did not budge.

She ended up having to write a letter herself. Actually I wrote it, sent it to her. She signed it, had it notarized, then mailed it to Riggs. The whole thing took a month with the mail system there.

Only then did they change her checking account plan.

These guys don't budge, rules are rules, and with Banks they mean that down to the last letter. I have no access to her accounts, not even just for information (balance, account type, etc.).

being protected, but it can cause such problems. I guess the up side is that we wouldn't want to have someone's personal financial information influence how they are treated by company's, huh?

BTW - Juice - you are cracking me up tonight with your post over on MTM's board. I guess Charlie is doing well and all is right with the world? Thanks for all the giggles!

Patti
• ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I guess we get along, but sadly there are families where people don't, and they wouldn't want other family members to have access to their money, or even information about how much money they have. An ugly divorce, for instance.

Charlie is back to his old self, it's amazing how resilient kids are.

I think I'll open up a new account for him at my Credit Union. A JOINT account...hee hee.

You're right on the politics. In the futre, I'll try to avoid the political commentary, and focus on Subarus when I'm not responding to the occasional lawyer bashing. :)

Though since the "my doom" virus is out thee, and is now a topic here, I'll throw in my .02 on that. My Web hosting service also provides email services for me. They screen all of my email. If something is infected (lots this week, though mostly spam anyway) it is intercepted. All I receive is a note from my provider saying that the message was infected with whatever virus, and the header of that original message is included. It's very rare that my Norton AV detects a virus, though I'm still careful to keep it current.

Just got off the Phone with Barb SOA customer rep . She was very helpful and really seemed to care about me and my problem . I have a appointment with the service center on Friday of this week. The factory service rep is coming down to deal with my car . I'll let all know how it turns out .

Thanks again Patti

Juice: You've answered your own problem with your mom & the bank - try a credit union instead. IMHO, friendlier, more flexible, and they act lke it's your money, not theirs. :)

Cheers!

Just got a call from the dealer and he got the ok from the DSR to fix my piston slap issue. They are going to order a new short block and the redesigned pistons . If there is no wear on the cylinder walls then they will use the pistons(#'S 4,2) . If there is wear then a new short block . They are also going to do both head gaskets since the engine will be out of the car .

I just wanted to say THANK YOU again .
I also want to thank Barb at SOA customer service,my local service manager ,and my DSR I think his name was Mike .

Can you venture over to the Baja topic and see if you can help Tony (anthonypaul1)? His Baja has 3000 miles and he says the engine noise is much louder than when he bought it. The dealer says the noise is normal. He has driven 4 other Bajas recently and he says they are quiet.

Thanks,

Last Thursday dropped my OB wagon off for oil change and to have them listen to the cold start noise. I expected "its normal", but instead got, "We will replace pistons 2 and 4 and maybe all four." I pick it up later today. I will ask to see a piston or two, otherwise I'm sure they need to send them to Subaru for further inspection. Of course this includes a new head gasket on the left side! Hopefully all will be the same or better, the engine ran great and got good mileage before....

Why do some get new pistons, but yet others get "its normal"? Is there a certain noise level? or maybe compression is off a bit because of it?

I contacted SoA about my leaking HG, and spoke to Barry, who gave me a case # (585945). I set up an appointment to get it looked at by the dealer tomorrow. Barry said he'd be in touch with the dealer. My concern is that, because I have 81K miles, I'm not going to get much, if any, help.

Patti, I'd appreciate anything you can do to help out on this.

Thanks in advance,
Len

If you stopped before the overheating got really bad, you probably managed to prevent most of the harm that could have occured.

You ought to fall under the 8/100 extension, maybe they could work on yours early since you show the symptoms.

I notice two people who are getting repairs for piston slap. Wow! I am currently in the process of trying to get mine resolved. I have a 99 Outback, DODC, engine #066409, serial #X7609216, has a slight verticle mark alongside the border that has EJ25 in it. SOA is telling me that I have Phase I block and there are no corrective pistons for it. They also don't want to put in a short block even though they did initially agree to do pistons 2 and 4 untill they said I had the Phase I block. I would like to talk to the two people that are getting their repairs but don't know how to contact them. They are MRK610 and JAY24. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Jack my Email address is Dodgenut1@aol.com

I got mine back yesterday. Couldn't see the pistons since they sent them back on friday. it was warm this morning (24F in the garage) and the engine had very little noise. I expect a little yet since only 2 poistons were replaced. I have a 2001 OBW so its a phase 2 engine. I'm not sure about 'redesigned' pistons. The service guy said the usse the same ones but are more carefull ont he sizing by going to the upper range on the tolerance.
I do have a part number 12006AC920
Is this the same old piston design or new design?
Service guy mentioned there was a little wear on the pistons, the cylinder was fine. Also mentioned its only a noise issue and really nothing more. But they jumped on fixing mine this time....

Steve,
Since I've gotton mine back it hasn't been very cold. About 24F in the garage overnight. So my subie sounds pretty good so far. I can hear some noise which is probably from pistons 1 and 3, but I really need to listen and turn the radio down. I'm hoping for another really cold night (-20F) to really test it.

--jay
• jay_24jay_24 Member Posts: 536
Patti,

Why do some of us get pistons replaced and other not? Is there some threshold of noise? I didn't even need to call SOA or you. The dealer contacted the district rep and had it done in just over one day.

I posted a part number for the piston 12006AC920 (from memory) Is this a new designed piston or same as what I originally had (2001 OBW)?

Also, I was going to ask you to help out TOny on the Baja boards, but I see you allready saw it...

thanks

My WRX is the best car I have ever owned, but I may sell it and never buy another Subaru again. In my experience Subaru builds great cars but my dealer is a crook, and SOA does nothing to help.

In short; it took a year and a half to get my dealer to agree to replace a clutch that chattered from new. While on their lot awaiting parts my car was stolen, yet Lynnes declined any responsibility or help.

Five months later I have it back; body repaired but engine smoking and gearbox balky. The insurance company is done with it and SOA will not warranty the abuse damage [despite Lynnes involvement]; I’m so glad I spend that money on the extended warranty.

As it turns out Lynnes has lost at least nine customer cars off their lot in the past two years – a problem they will not address.

By the way, since my clutch was never repaired, and the other local dealer will not work on any car they didn’t sell, I have to take it back and leave it at Lynnes again.

Any suggestions?

- J.S.
