I was told the airbags turn off for any weight under 80lbs.

A small person with the seat all the way back won't hit the dash if the seat belt is properly fastened, so they'll be safe even with the air bag off. It's better to hit nothing vs. an inflated air bag.

Are those pistons forged or cast? ;-)

    Hi Patti,

After a couple months of trying to decide between an Acura TSX, WRX or Legacy GT I finally purchased a Legacy GT auto on Friday. I have to wait till Tuesday to pick it up because of my work schedule. :(
Anyways, I have been reading several posts by people who have received an offer for free maintenance by mail with the purchase of a new Legacy or Outback within a certain period of time. Do you know anything about this promotion? How did people get on the list? I did sign up at Need-Desire and got brochures a while back. Being able to get that promotion would be such a welcome benefit. Thanks for any info.

Cars 101 says the airbag turns on at 75 lbs. I happen to have a 70 lb. child and the air bag does not go on.

[Note: I also posted in the 2005 Legacy forum, before I found this one -- sorry for the double post.]

We just bought a 2005 Legacy GT Limited 5EAT Wagon. The vehicle appears to be perfect, save for one minor omission: I can't find the power outlet in the cargo area.

There's a blank plastic disc where the outlet cover should be. I can't seem to pry it off (gave it some elbow grease), and I don't know if there's anything behind it, anyways.

Did I get an outlet? If not, can the dealer take care of this, or is it simply too late? I can imagine using this, so I would much rather have one.

Again, this is a minor nitpick. We just got it, so I haven't had a chance to contact the dealer or 800-number yet. Otherwise, we are extremely pleased with the vehicle. Thanks in advance for any advice.

    -cheers, cbell

Update: It sounds like there's some doubt as to whether the Legacy gets the cargo area outlet, or just the Outback. I'll have to check the manual again, but IIRC it didn't distinguish between the two.

Subaru's website seems to confirm this, so maybe Legacy just doesn't get the third one. Even so, if this is the biggest controversy that I have with the new wagon, then I am still over the moon. =-)

    Thanks again... -cheers, cbell

cbell - I responded to you in the 2005+ Legacy/Outback thread as well, but I don't think we Legacy Wagon owners get one. I don't have one in mine either. I think it should be quite easy to add though, as you have clearly noticed there are a couple blanks for them in the left side cubby in the cargo area.

    Cheers!

OB is also pre-wired for a towing harness, and the Legacy isn't. At least that was true for the past generations.

  • nygregnygreg Member Posts: 1,936
I would think the wire is there, but the outlet itself is not. If you can order an outlet, perhaps it is just a plug in. Worth a shot.

goneskiian and nygreg, thanks for the advice. I'll have to see whether it's possible to retro-fit this. Strangely enough, my dogs don't seem to mind riding back there, nor do the grocery bags notice this minor absence. =-) -cheers, cbell

Dogs and Subaru's go together. However, I would expect them to start complaining when they try to plug in their CD players. :)

over there. I wont' cross-post, but it should be set at 80 lbs. The dealer probably needs to re-set the one that this customer (potential) sat in with the "weights" - two sep. 40 lb. weights shaped like an "L". They have to be done in a specific order at PDI with entering of codes. It could be that something was set out of sequence?

previous owners and also some folks that had gone to the "Need-Desire" site. But, I'm sure we can take care of you. Please drop a line to us at the "Contact us" section of Subaru.com. Please ask the Rep. to see me related to getting you a coupon so you can take advantage of the offer.

    Thanks!

I'd be interested in that free maintenance offer also, if it's something you can swing. However, I've already bought my 2005 legacy, so it obviously isn't a deal maker/breaker for me!

    Patti,
Just purchased my 2004 Legacy GT Limited sedan today. My question is the same as dsattler above.
What's up with the coupon. This is my second Subaru purchase (brand new 2002 Forester S Premium). I also signed up at the need-desire web site for info. What qualifies for getting these coupons? Thanks.
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
Did you get a 2004 or a 2005 GT? The maintenance coupon is only valid for 2005 models.

Cool! A brand new 2005 Legacy GT Limited sedan. You lucky dog! We'd love to hear your driving impressions but "Meet the Memebers" is probably a more suitable forum.

Any truth to the rumor that Subaru is planning a dealership in the Peoria/Glendlae/Sun Cities area soon?

If so, that would be SWEET, as they are tons of us out in this neck of the desert, and it's 22 miles to the nearest dealer for me.

  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
    only 22 miles away? ;-)

there's 2 Subie dealers within 30 minutes of my location, expands to about 5 within 1 hour of here.

    Patti,
You must be getting sick of this issue, however.... I own 2 wrx's (a 2002 wagon and a 2004 sedan) which replaced 2 turbo gl-10's from '87 and '88 (I think). I'm thinking of adding a 2005 legacy gt-ltd to the fleet, and frankly I feel that if Subaru is handing out these maintenance coupons, folks like me should be getting them. You suggested to another member to use your name in contacting subaru to get one of these. Does that offer go to others who are on these board?
    thanks
  • subaru_teamsubaru_team Member Posts: 1,676
Okay - so here's the drill. They were a "limited" mailing through various sources. That being said, if you contact us, we can try to get you a coupon. I can't promise because as a result of these posts, I signed off on 14 requests today! I do not have many coupons left, so I don't know if I can help everyone. I'll try to get more if I run out and I promise I'll do my best to help you all - I just don't want to get your hopes up if I run out.

Thanks - and sorry for the confusion!

    Patti

P.S. - It's interesting to see how many new car owners read this forum! I was surprised at all of the e-mails we received. We do reach a lot of folks here, huh?
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
    Patti,

beyond the usual reach of edmunds, which is fairly significant but not too overly huge from a subaru enthusiast standpoint, what probably occured was good news travelling through all other internet forums and email lists.

"find Patti on edmunds.com and ask her for a maintenance coupon for your 2005!" hyperlink to here :)

a look-see at other forums though and didn't see it anywhere. It's okay though. Our Reps. are having fun with it ("Patti - I got another one that says you referred them to us?") They think I'm so popular!

Patti: suggest that they just make the free maintenance standard with every 2005, and then advertise it!

Seriously, tiny ol' Daewoo was a front-runner in many customer satisfaction studies merely because for a while they offered 2 years' free maintenance. When they stopped, their ratings plunged.

So it's a good way to make your customers happy!

OK Patti, when is SOA going to make a USPS team car edition Outback for the public?

    Bruce
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
Um, I vote 'never' since USPS is no longer the headline sponsor after this season. Of course someone else has already stepped to the US$9MM plate... I can't recall whom right now though.

With the proviso that Lance compete thru 05.

rural letter carriers some years ago. We were offering a RHD version of the Legacy for them. They were a loyal bunch - but alas, the demand couldn't justify the cost of offering the car. Now with Lance......maybe it's time to revisit? I doubt it but..

  • subaru_teamsubaru_team Member Posts: 1,676
FYI - we're plum out of extra coupons folks. Sorry. I did note and share your suggestion Juice to just offer the maintenance with the vehicle. I think it was considered, but for the additional cost to the customer (nothing is for nothing), I don't think they saw it as something the customers would want. So many of our customers are do-it-yourself types, that I guess they didn't think it would be a big draw.

Anyway, if you are considering buying a 2005 and this is important to you, please tell your dealer. I'm sure they will do what they can for you. Also, ask your Subaru friends! Maybe they have one they can give you?

The promotion ends in Sept. so, I guess they will decide then on the impact and move from there on other offers. Stay tuned!

    Sorry - -

    Patti

I remember seeing several of those white RHD Legacy L wagons here in Howard County Maryland being used as rural postal delivery vehicles.

    Bob
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
I still see one RHD Legacy wagon (red IIRC) delivering mail out near my folks. Probably been doing that route for 8 years or so now, from what I can recall.

Would suggest coming up with an obscure bit of Subie trivia and the first correct answer gets the coupon.

    Patti,

Do you know what the typical delivery time of the 05 Legacys once the dealer is faxed the invoice and VIN?

I was told that it's pretty quick, but it's been about two weeks since my invoice showed up.

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning!
