You sound like fun. For MDX, they are $48,000 in Canada, with only two trim packages/options. I doubt that any Honda dealer would bring that anywhere near my $40k limit, and if one did, I would be right over there. I have not driven one, but I'm guessing it's exactly what I'd like to have.

For minivans, I love the Chryslers, and have had two of them that I loved to death, with windows that opened (for the doggie), and just enough seats (4-5 is plenty for me).

I'm just not a minivan guy any more... maybe I got tired of them. I don't need that amount of space really, and while they are economical (purchase and fuel consumption) and comfy, I want something with a bit more... whatever it is: sporty, fun, not entirely practical. ???

But I agree: I'd take a minivan over most cars on the road (sedans, especially).

All this comparison stuff on paper will give you a headache. the real difference is the drive and feel. I loved the Murano on paper then they said no DVD option this yr and even if they did offer it, the screen would be located on the back of the center console ..hmm not too smart.

then I drove it !!! ugggg I didnt feel comfortable driving it. wheres that dang side mirror adjustment ?? no dimming driver exterior mirror !! ... neat transmission but weird to drive. and hmm I want to put a large box in the back let say my next big tv ... what have to fold down ALL the seats because the rear windows slopes TOO much... Great Extrior, Looks good on paper... for me test drive sealed it.

I did like the new Mitsubishi Endevors. Took their $100 test drive challenge and its drives nice. it looks nice like a Jeep Grand Cheroke. if your not looking for options check it out before you make a deal and hey if you dont get it, and buy something else in 21 DAYS you get $100 from Mitsubishi.

Pacifica was rated behind Murano, Endeavor, and Pathfinder, but ahead of Montero, and Trailblazer.

They were not crazy about the engine. 0-60 in 9.7 vs 8.0 for Murano. 10/24 mpg vs. 14/26 for Murano, but liked the ride.

BTW regarding what it is called - it looks just like a station wagon too me.
  • libertycatlibertycat Member Posts: 593
What is the U.S./Canada exchange rate. I'm just curious about why the MDX is over the Pacifica/Murano in Canada, yet under in the U.S. We have all but two packages standard too. Dudley, those comparison tests sometimes tick me off. My order of those (I don't CARE about horsepower at all) would be:
    1)Montero
    2)Pacifica
    3)Endeavor
    4)Murano
    5)TrailBlazer
6)Pathfinder (YUCK!, the others are so much better IMO) no offense to those Pathfinder owners in this discussion. Not that much room, truck ride and drive, UGLY bland styling IMO, and a not too luxurious interior.
  • dudleyrdudleyr Member Posts: 3,469
Yes those tests don't always jive with everybodys personal opinions especially the overall ranking, but they are usually pretty good about how they rank the individual aspects of the cars performance. You just have to read between the lines and decide what is important to you.

One interesting thing about the test - they rated the Pacifica second seat very good, while the Murano was rated as excellent. Kind of ironic since part of the purpose of only having 2 seats was to increase comfort.

It is a pretty good read if anyone is interested in any of the models tested, they pretty much matched the general comments on the Pacifica from this forum.

Here's the link to the full Joshua Tree wood trim kit as installed on my Pacifica:

looks like you did a nice install. how do you like it now that you installed it ? I just ordered the shifter ashtray area kit.

I was thinking the complete kit might be too much wood trim. in the pics it looks like it matches pretty close. hows the matching to the OEM wood trim ?

    thanks

    It's nice...but a bit too excesive.
  • libertycatlibertycat Member Posts: 593
perfect color, lots of it, if I get a Pacifica, I would get that for sure.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
I got the complete kit because I wanted all the dash & console pcs.
I did not install the overhead DVD pcs.

I think Chrysler did a great job with this car. I saw photo's of the interior in Motor Trend and the outside looks great but the pricing is kinda high for a Chrysler. 32K. I don't know.
  • acraftonacrafton Member Posts: 99
Guys, in addition to the $3500 plus or so rebates/incentives currently offered on the Pacifica, there is another new one. If you trade in a car for a new pacifica, they will add $500 to the trade in price. This isnot a local gimmick but is from Chrysler to spur sales.

Note that sales did pickup last month after the incentives were announced. All in all, you should be seeing $5K off MSRP for this guy.

How low can they go . . .?!

    Adam
  • ms_mayorms_mayor Member Posts: 113
Although I already purchased my Pacifica and any additional incentives are moot, I'm curious as to where you saw this $3500.

The Chrysler website lists just $1000.
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
There is approx. $3,000 dealer profit in the MSRP of a loaded ($40,000)Pacifica. add the Chrysler $1,000 rebate, and the $500 trade in incentive, and the lowest a dealer could go is $4,500 advertised "off MSRP.
This assumes the dealer is willing to work only on his holdback, of approx. $1,200.
I think all these crazy ads of "$7,500 off MSRP" are a bunch of BS...the money is just not there!

Just completed a 1132 mile trip, 95% inter state. Cruise was set 74mph( yes I was speeding) used 53.7 gallons of gas and that works out to 21.08 mpg. I had just over 500 miles on Pacifica when I started trip. My Pacifica is an FWD. So far, very pleased. PUNK
  • libertycatlibertycat Member Posts: 593
I guess a Lexus or Mercedes would be perfect for you. Even though the Pacifica has a great luxurious interior and is priced below competitors, the Chrysler badge is not prestigious enough for you. Sad, but I guess you're just that kind of person who needs snob appeal.
  • pssimonpssimon Member Posts: 144
A while back, someone had mentioned that the Pacifica came deal that entitled the owner to a free loaner if the car was held for service for more than a few hours. Has anyone seen this in writing? Where could I find it? Is there any truth to this?

    Thanks!
  • boiler1boiler1 Member Posts: 56
I asked my dealer about the loaner program but they knew nothing about it. However, the salesman did say he would "take care if me" if my Pacifica needed to be kept overnight...whatever that means. ;-)

FYI ... if you search on Chrysler.com in the search box and type in "Pacifica Loaner" you will get similiar news release ...
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
if they threw in a free maintenance for 36K miles like BMW.
  • twoof1twoof1 Member Posts: 308
BMW's maintenance program is not free. You simply pay for it upfront in the price of the car.
Although many manufacturer's are going to this type of program (MBZ, Jag, Volvo, Saab) NO manufacturer gives away "free" maintenance. It's just an illusion. The dealers love it because now they know that the customer will be back to have their car serviced and not use some independent.

test drove a loaded Pacifica today

enjoyed the drive (in ocmparison to my 96 Grand Caravan and my 2000 Sebring convertible)

(I know, not much of a comparison)

Still, the drive was solid, sufficiently powerful, cornerning was good, sight lines were good.

Whether it is worth the price is another story, of course

I did get tired of the salesman going on about the German engineering, however.
  • twoof1twoof1 Member Posts: 308
I completly understand about the dealer thing. I have owned 2 BMW's & 1 MBZ. The dealers know they don't have to over-sell their designs.

Chrysler I believe is in a tough spot. They are trying to break into new territory and cross that bridge from the perception of being a domestic P.O.S. to a German quality hybrid. This is a tough position to pitch if not properly prepared. They are going to find the same problem with trying to sell the Crossfire. I blame DC for not properly preparing their dealers with the appropriate PR spin to pitch the car correctly.

Most of these guys on the Chrysler dealer lot's (I hate to stereotype but my experience has been overwhelming) are clueless. They try to tell me that the car is a "Mercedes with a Chrysler badge" or that it is "2/3 Mercedes, 1/3 Chrysler"
It is obvious that they don't have a clue about what they are selling.

Inept Sales people are a pet peeve of mine (can you tell?). It drives me crazy when I know more about the car than the guy trying to sell it to me. I know it must be tough after selling typical domestic cars for years with the typical domestic car salesman techniques to step up to the plate to the level of a Premium (Lexus, Infiniti, MBZ, BMW etc.) mark. It is indeed a different level of knowledge and customer respect.

Fortunately I have learned to tune out most of the sales people and focus on the car itself, which in my opinion is without equal in a unique niche class that seems to fit my family perfectly.

I purchased a 2004 FWD pacifica in 8/2003. Have put 10,000 mile on it with just one miner problem with the computer on the tire senors. We love the way the car drives and would buy another today. A specially with the deals that you can get today. Good Luck
  • jglackinjglackin Member Posts: 164
One of the most difficult things for a manufacturer to do is launch a new product AND train its salespeople. Those of us in metro areas had the benefit of a hand on full day experience with the Pacifica and a few of its competitors before it arrived at dealers. We also received some other in house materials that everyone received across the country, but the individuals had to view the materials on their own. Chrysler has done their work. It sounds like you guys are running into some folks who were not paying attention or are indifferent.
  • pssimonpssimon Member Posts: 144
After waiting 7 weeks, knowing that the vehicle was built and waiting shipment on 6/6, my Pacifica showed up on 7/11. Yippiee! Due to family issues, I haven't really been able to take it out on the road for any extensive trips yet. I have a whopping 28 miles on it. So far, no complaints.

Anyway, if you get the overhead video system, how many headphones are supposed to come with the car? I thought I had seen 4 as the number stated here on the board, but it looks like I only got 2. How many am I really supposed to get?

    Thanks... Paul
  • jglackinjglackin Member Posts: 164
it comes with 2. you can order addition sets through your parts counter. I just had to order an extra one for a customer...the price in the parts book is $99 (for one).

Congratulations on taking delivery of your Pacifica! I think I remember posting that you would have it on the 11th. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoy ours. Best of luck.

Bought my Pacifica with Navigation and DVD system this past Friday. Was looking through my mail on Saturday and noticed something from Chrysler. Opened it up and found a voucher for a FREE navigation system if I bought or leased my Pacifica until July 31st. Called up my dealer and asked what can be done (since it was not even 24 hours since the sale, and they still owed me some things from the sale). They were not aware of this promotion and asked to have that voucher faxed to them. Got a call later that day and found out that they will not rewrite the sales contract to reflect this offer, but will send me a check for $1595 on Monday. Pretty good, huh?
  • cluelesspacluelesspa Member Posts: 648
pretty good deal ... in PA if you buy a car from the dealer's office and drive it off lot .. the deal is done ... glad they hooked you up. did you also get the $1000 rebate and $500 tradein allowance ?
  • pssimonpssimon Member Posts: 144
Fascinating regarding the NAV deal. Wish I had gotten one of them. All I got was a postcard talking about the $1000 rebate as a previous owner. Go figure.

Speaking of the NAV system, does anyone know where the GPS antenna is located? Just curious.

    Thanks....
  • mrquispmrquisp Member Posts: 13
Clueless... I did not get any incentive at the time of purchase (we got ours at $1800 below MSRP). I think the $1000 incentive was for a loyalty rebate, and we did not have a car to trade-in (this was to replace a leased car (Audi A6) that we got rid of the week before (we were not going to lease again)). I think I convinced them since the deal was not even 24hrs old, and that the sale was still open considering the dealer still owed me some items.
  • cluelesspacluelesspa Member Posts: 648
actually the $1k rebate was expanded to anyone driving any competitive vehicle for me it was the Highlander... and the rebate was extended until the end of july.
  • foxgofoxgo Member Posts: 27
I just received the same voucher in the mail. I don't even know why I got one, other than for requesting Pacifica info on the web site! It is a great offer, but unfortunately I am not ready to buy/lease by the July 31st expiration. But who knows, maybe they will honor it (or the dealership will give me a comparable discount) if it is a dealbreaker in a month or two when I am ready to sign.

After seeing a picture here of someone's Pacifica with a exhaust tip installed, I thought one might look good on mine. My question is the pic showed a very short tip, I want the bolt-on type (easier) but all(Pilot models)seem to be atleast 8" or longer which would seem to make it stick out to far, or do people put them on that way?!? I didnt measure it yet, but the tailpipe seems to be only 5" or so. (This sounds kinda dirty doesnt it?, unintentional)

Does anyone know if they make a bolt-on tip that short? I know this should be in the modifications forum but I thought I might get a quicker response here. Thanks for any responses.
  • cluelesspacluelesspa Member Posts: 648
Tony that was my Pacifica you saw... thanks to the other two who pointed me to the correct model and part number ... easy choice to make... dont waste energy reinventing the wheel. those guys already did the searching. and short of changing out the exhaust muffler can you can't just change the tip... you need the slip on... read up on the tips to install. it will save you tons of time getting it to fit and stay on :) and remember its not the size that counts (sorry couldnt resist) but the one recommended does stick out slightly like the pics show but not enough to be distracting. I think you will be happy with it, if you like the look.

The pictured tip is Pilot Motorsports # PM552 from stylinconcepts.com.
    The cost is $24.95 + $7.50 S&H.
The tip is 8" long, and the 1st 2" (resonator end) is black, as are the brackets, so you don't see the attachments. The result looks very "factory".
To install, remove the brackets & screws and slide the tip on all the way to the resonator.
Remove the lock nuts from the screws, and use 1 long bracket & screw in the top holes, and 2 short bracket in the lower holes.
The finished tip does not stick out beyond the bumper, and the 3 1/2" diameter fills the cutout nicely. The tip is made from very heavy stainless steel and cleans up easily when the car is washed.
cluelesspa is right ... all the research has been done ... I bought 2 other tips before finding this one!
  • cluelesspacluelesspa Member Posts: 648
I did it alittle different with the clamps. I followed the suggestion posted earlier:
    ----------------------------
This is what Russ Klass and I did. removed the clamps, slid tip all the way to resonator. Use short clamp on top and longer ones on both sides. Remove secondary nut from screw but retain the lock washers. Mine is about flush with TOP rear of bumper. I think it looks good.?? I hope this helps. Punk
    -------------------------------

I think you need two of the longer clamps and one short clamp. you will need to remove the second nut on the screws for the long clamps or they wont reach the mounting hole to screw in initially.
  • boiler1boiler1 Member Posts: 56
Just looked at the StylinConcepts site and the price for PM552 has increased to $34.95. Probably still an OK deal.

I just got the same Pilot Exhaust Tip from JC Whitney for 22.95 (Item 49ZX7435U) +tax+s&h.

As this is my first post, I didn't know which board to put it on. I also put a version on the 'How Much Did You Pay' board. I apologize if I violated proper protocol. I need fast help!

Been shopping for the past month or so to replace an 98 ML320 with over 100K on it and on its last legs.

Narrowed the choices down to the Pacifica, XC-90, ML-320, and Pilot.

I just left the Dealer here in Los Angeles, and after test driving a Black FWD loaded with everything BUT Nav, Heated Seats, Full Sized Spare/Chromes, and U Connect, the salesman tells me that he can give me 6K off of MSRP Sticker. Salesman tells me that this particular car has 45 miles on it, and because it's been driven on test drives and the like it can be sold at as a DEMO so it qualifies for such aggressive discounting by the factory. Salesman claims that only a few cars on the lot qualify for this special program. We priced out another comparably equipped car in a different color and it was more than 4K out the door after taxes.

The sticker on the "demo" model was around 36,500, after tax, prep and license, my cost out the door was just over 33K. I came home tonight and in the mail found an offer for a Chrysler Visa Card with a $500.00 value upon purchase or lease of a Pacifica.

My question is.........is this a good deal? This car has gone from NO INCENTIVES to 6K off sticker in less than 30 days. Anyone know why? It's so cheap that it makes me wonder if there's some type of deeper problem that is making the manufacturer want to unload them.

The Pacifica isn't the first choice, that would be the XC-90, but at nearly 10K less comparably equipped, it seems hard to justify going that direction.

Is the FWD car the reason they are trying to move this car? Is the AWD really worth additional expense?

What am I missing here? This literally seems to good to be true. Is it, or can I get an even BETTER deal by holding the line on price and hammering them harder.

I have to make a decision by Friday evening!!!
    H E L P!!!!!
  • foxgofoxgo Member Posts: 27
It sounds like a very good deal to me! I personally want the AWD, but I live in the Northeast where I get LOTS of snow, which is not the case in LA.

From the postings on these boards you will see that the Pacifica has not been moving as well as DC originally planned. I think someone mentioned that their goal was to sell 6,000/month, and so far they have only sold between 4,000-5,000 per month since they came out. As a result, DC has been trying all kinds of tactics to move the cars...offering rebates to loyalty and non-loyalty buyers, larger discounts off MSRP, vouchers in the mail for free NAV system, etc.

Who's to say that you could not get a better deal by trying a bit harder? They are anxious to sell, so they may be willing to do more to close the deal!
  • eeeleeel Member Posts: 57
Sounds like a pretty good deal for the Pacifica.

My Chrysler dealer told me about 10 days ago of the 'demo' plan. Depending upon the 'tier' (dealers are rated by letter according to their sales volume), they are being encouraged to put Pacifica's (the # of demos relates to the sales tier) into the demo program.

This allows for a 3k drop from Chrysler for the demo. When you figure in the discount (at invoice), you have a heck of a deal there.

The salesperson you were dealing with was telling you the truth. The guy I know who runs the Chrysler dealership always tells me this kind of stuff.

The higher the sales 'tier', the larger the # of demos they're allowed to work.

Since you're in LA, I don't think AWD will mean a thing to you.

    Hope this helps.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
I would want AWD in Florida - it rains hard here.
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
if you have skid controla and traction control AWD is not needed for rain. Claudette just passed by and my RWD FX35 with VDC and TC handled it fine. You probably would want a little more ground clearance for standing water though.
  • pssimonpssimon Member Posts: 144
Just curious... are my fellow Pacifica users driving around mainly in the "6 seat" mode or the "4 seat" mode?

If in the "4 seat" mode, are you closing up the area over the rear console into the back or not? If so, how? It was something that never occurred to me when test driving and never noticed it. Now, I notice it open and would like to close it from the cabin side.

Have I missed the obvious (wouldn't be the first time <G>)?

    Thanks!
  • ms_mayorms_mayor Member Posts: 113
I normally drive with the third row folded, so I guess that's considered '4 seat mode'. (my son's hockey gear is usually in the back).

I'm confused though as to what you mean by "closing up the area over the rear console". Do you mean using the cargo cover?
  • pssimonpssimon Member Posts: 144
<<I'm confused though as to what you mean by "closing up the area over the rear console". Do you mean using the cargo cover? >>

I am referring to the hole above the console, looking back into the "cargo" area when in the "4 seat" mode. The cover closes in the top of the area, but what about the hole between the seats above the console?
  • ms_mayorms_mayor Member Posts: 113
    Okay, now I understand.

I can't really help you with an answer though...I only use the cargo cover when shopping. All other times the area is just left open, and it never really occurred to me that the hole needed covering.

If anything, I'd leave it alone just so my kids could easily access any gear they might want while travelling. What I may end up doing is getting a nice basket to fit that opening that they can use to store DVD's, their headphones, snacks, etc. while on the road.
  • cluelesspacluelesspa Member Posts: 648
I am guessing you used to drive an SUV with a 60/40 fold down rear seat (ie. the rear seat was a full bench...) it is a bit distracting with the cargo cover mounted at the third seat location... speaking of which - what a pain the @#$@# the cargo cover has no place to get a good grip to pull and cover the complete third row area all the way back ) Wish they would have put a handle on the stupid thing.
