For minivans, I love the Chryslers, and have had two of them that I loved to death, with windows that opened (for the doggie), and just enough seats (4-5 is plenty for me).
I'm just not a minivan guy any more... maybe I got tired of them. I don't need that amount of space really, and while they are economical (purchase and fuel consumption) and comfy, I want something with a bit more... whatever it is: sporty, fun, not entirely practical. ???
But I agree: I'd take a minivan over most cars on the road (sedans, especially).
then I drove it !!! ugggg I didnt feel comfortable driving it. wheres that dang side mirror adjustment ?? no dimming driver exterior mirror !! ... neat transmission but weird to drive. and hmm I want to put a large box in the back let say my next big tv ... what have to fold down ALL the seats because the rear windows slopes TOO much... Great Extrior, Looks good on paper... for me test drive sealed it.
I did like the new Mitsubishi Endevors. Took their $100 test drive challenge and its drives nice. it looks nice like a Jeep Grand Cheroke. if your not looking for options check it out before you make a deal and hey if you dont get it, and buy something else in 21 DAYS you get $100 from Mitsubishi.
They were not crazy about the engine. 0-60 in 9.7 vs 8.0 for Murano. 10/24 mpg vs. 14/26 for Murano, but liked the ride.
BTW regarding what it is called - it looks just like a station wagon too me.
1)Montero
2)Pacifica
3)Endeavor
4)Murano
5)TrailBlazer
6)Pathfinder (YUCK!, the others are so much better IMO) no offense to those Pathfinder owners in this discussion. Not that much room, truck ride and drive, UGLY bland styling IMO, and a not too luxurious interior.
One interesting thing about the test - they rated the Pacifica second seat very good, while the Murano was rated as excellent. Kind of ironic since part of the purpose of only having 2 seats was to increase comfort.
It is a pretty good read if anyone is interested in any of the models tested, they pretty much matched the general comments on the Pacifica from this forum.

I was thinking the complete kit might be too much wood trim. in the pics it looks like it matches pretty close. hows the matching to the OEM wood trim ?
thanks
I did not install the overhead DVD pcs.
Note that sales did pickup last month after the incentives were announced. All in all, you should be seeing $5K off MSRP for this guy.
How low can they go . . .?!
Adam
The Chrysler website lists just $1000.
This assumes the dealer is willing to work only on his holdback, of approx. $1,200.
I think all these crazy ads of "$7,500 off MSRP" are a bunch of BS...the money is just not there!
Thanks!
FYI ... if you search on Chrysler.com in the search box and type in "Pacifica Loaner" you will get similiar news release ...
Although many manufacturer's are going to this type of program (MBZ, Jag, Volvo, Saab) NO manufacturer gives away "free" maintenance. It's just an illusion. The dealers love it because now they know that the customer will be back to have their car serviced and not use some independent.
enjoyed the drive (in ocmparison to my 96 Grand Caravan and my 2000 Sebring convertible)
(I know, not much of a comparison)
Still, the drive was solid, sufficiently powerful, cornerning was good, sight lines were good.
Whether it is worth the price is another story, of course
I did get tired of the salesman going on about the German engineering, however.
Chrysler I believe is in a tough spot. They are trying to break into new territory and cross that bridge from the perception of being a domestic P.O.S. to a German quality hybrid. This is a tough position to pitch if not properly prepared. They are going to find the same problem with trying to sell the Crossfire. I blame DC for not properly preparing their dealers with the appropriate PR spin to pitch the car correctly.
Most of these guys on the Chrysler dealer lot's (I hate to stereotype but my experience has been overwhelming) are clueless. They try to tell me that the car is a "Mercedes with a Chrysler badge" or that it is "2/3 Mercedes, 1/3 Chrysler"
It is obvious that they don't have a clue about what they are selling.
Inept Sales people are a pet peeve of mine (can you tell?). It drives me crazy when I know more about the car than the guy trying to sell it to me. I know it must be tough after selling typical domestic cars for years with the typical domestic car salesman techniques to step up to the plate to the level of a Premium (Lexus, Infiniti, MBZ, BMW etc.) mark. It is indeed a different level of knowledge and customer respect.
Fortunately I have learned to tune out most of the sales people and focus on the car itself, which in my opinion is without equal in a unique niche class that seems to fit my family perfectly.
Anyway, if you get the overhead video system, how many headphones are supposed to come with the car? I thought I had seen 4 as the number stated here on the board, but it looks like I only got 2. How many am I really supposed to get?
Thanks... Paul
Speaking of the NAV system, does anyone know where the GPS antenna is located? Just curious.
Thanks....
Does anyone know if they make a bolt-on tip that short? I know this should be in the modifications forum but I thought I might get a quicker response here. Thanks for any responses.
The cost is $24.95 + $7.50 S&H.
The tip is 8" long, and the 1st 2" (resonator end) is black, as are the brackets, so you don't see the attachments. The result looks very "factory".
To install, remove the brackets & screws and slide the tip on all the way to the resonator.
Remove the lock nuts from the screws, and use 1 long bracket & screw in the top holes, and 2 short bracket in the lower holes.
The finished tip does not stick out beyond the bumper, and the 3 1/2" diameter fills the cutout nicely. The tip is made from very heavy stainless steel and cleans up easily when the car is washed.
cluelesspa is right ... all the research has been done ... I bought 2 other tips before finding this one!
----------------------------
This is what Russ Klass and I did. removed the clamps, slid tip all the way to resonator. Use short clamp on top and longer ones on both sides. Remove secondary nut from screw but retain the lock washers. Mine is about flush with TOP rear of bumper. I think it looks good.?? I hope this helps. Punk
-------------------------------
I think you need two of the longer clamps and one short clamp. you will need to remove the second nut on the screws for the long clamps or they wont reach the mounting hole to screw in initially.
Been shopping for the past month or so to replace an 98 ML320 with over 100K on it and on its last legs.
Narrowed the choices down to the Pacifica, XC-90, ML-320, and Pilot.
I just left the Dealer here in Los Angeles, and after test driving a Black FWD loaded with everything BUT Nav, Heated Seats, Full Sized Spare/Chromes, and U Connect, the salesman tells me that he can give me 6K off of MSRP Sticker. Salesman tells me that this particular car has 45 miles on it, and because it's been driven on test drives and the like it can be sold at as a DEMO so it qualifies for such aggressive discounting by the factory. Salesman claims that only a few cars on the lot qualify for this special program. We priced out another comparably equipped car in a different color and it was more than 4K out the door after taxes.
The sticker on the "demo" model was around 36,500, after tax, prep and license, my cost out the door was just over 33K. I came home tonight and in the mail found an offer for a Chrysler Visa Card with a $500.00 value upon purchase or lease of a Pacifica.
My question is.........is this a good deal? This car has gone from NO INCENTIVES to 6K off sticker in less than 30 days. Anyone know why? It's so cheap that it makes me wonder if there's some type of deeper problem that is making the manufacturer want to unload them.
The Pacifica isn't the first choice, that would be the XC-90, but at nearly 10K less comparably equipped, it seems hard to justify going that direction.
Is the FWD car the reason they are trying to move this car? Is the AWD really worth additional expense?
What am I missing here? This literally seems to good to be true. Is it, or can I get an even BETTER deal by holding the line on price and hammering them harder.
I have to make a decision by Friday evening!!!
H E L P!!!!!
From the postings on these boards you will see that the Pacifica has not been moving as well as DC originally planned. I think someone mentioned that their goal was to sell 6,000/month, and so far they have only sold between 4,000-5,000 per month since they came out. As a result, DC has been trying all kinds of tactics to move the cars...offering rebates to loyalty and non-loyalty buyers, larger discounts off MSRP, vouchers in the mail for free NAV system, etc.
Who's to say that you could not get a better deal by trying a bit harder? They are anxious to sell, so they may be willing to do more to close the deal!
My Chrysler dealer told me about 10 days ago of the 'demo' plan. Depending upon the 'tier' (dealers are rated by letter according to their sales volume), they are being encouraged to put Pacifica's (the # of demos relates to the sales tier) into the demo program.
This allows for a 3k drop from Chrysler for the demo. When you figure in the discount (at invoice), you have a heck of a deal there.
The salesperson you were dealing with was telling you the truth. The guy I know who runs the Chrysler dealership always tells me this kind of stuff.
The higher the sales 'tier', the larger the # of demos they're allowed to work.
Since you're in LA, I don't think AWD will mean a thing to you.
Hope this helps.
If in the "4 seat" mode, are you closing up the area over the rear console into the back or not? If so, how? It was something that never occurred to me when test driving and never noticed it. Now, I notice it open and would like to close it from the cabin side.
Have I missed the obvious (wouldn't be the first time <G>)?
Thanks!
I'm confused though as to what you mean by "closing up the area over the rear console". Do you mean using the cargo cover?
I am referring to the hole above the console, looking back into the "cargo" area when in the "4 seat" mode. The cover closes in the top of the area, but what about the hole between the seats above the console?
I can't really help you with an answer though...I only use the cargo cover when shopping. All other times the area is just left open, and it never really occurred to me that the hole needed covering.
If anything, I'd leave it alone just so my kids could easily access any gear they might want while travelling. What I may end up doing is getting a nice basket to fit that opening that they can use to store DVD's, their headphones, snacks, etc. while on the road.
