The subvented lease rates are only good for terms up to 42 months... any higher than that, and you have to use BMW's standard rate. Not sure what that is, but probably north of .0020

The 42 month residuals are 9% lower than the 36 month residual.... In this case, the payments actually get higher, if you go longer than 36 months.

So I'm closed in on the lease. 328i Premium, Sport Line, Nav, Driver Asst, Heated seats and harman/kardon. 36/10k Lease. MSRP $49,000 - $7,500 discount (incl. incentives) = $41,500 sales price. Add back in jacked up doc fee: $595 and acquisition fee: $925 + TTL ~ $70 = Net Cap Cost of $43,070. As I live in Georgia I had to pay TAVT (i.e., taxes) of $2,907 on the car, and as they messed up the MSD calculation I ended up paying an additional cap cost reduction of ~$400. They also hit me with a higher money factor of .0015 (which I negotiated down from an egregious .0017--a .0013 MF would've lowered the payment by ~$15/month). In any case, I put down 7 MSDs bringing me to a final lease payment of $441.00/month. Had I lived in another state, the pre-tax payment would've been $403.86/month (with 7 MSDs and .0015 MF)

    How does that sound?

Those new "ad valorem" taxes really kill you in Georgia. Seems to be a pretty good deal. The MSDs absolutely helped.

I am very new to negotiating leases...in the past I just tell them a payment and they make it fit that payment (dumb I know!) Well I've learned so much reading this forum and I have negotiated the price of the car, but they want to add a $699 dealer fee. She said that it is standard in this area (Florida). Is this something I should asked to be waived?

Unfortunately, ridiculously massive dealer fees have become common in Florida.

My reaction: "Geez, I didn't know you were going to add $700 to my deal, after I thought we had come to an agreement. If you insist on that fee, I'll need to lower my offer by $700."

Why don't you buy from out of state?? There is no law that says you have to use a Florida dealer.

Hi - was looking for a sanity check here ... looking to lease (36 mos, 10k/yr) a 2014 328i x-drive, and got a quote from a local dealer. MSRP is $45,185, adjusted selling price after discounts is $39,995. Verified they're using 64% residual. Their worksheet gives me a $478/mo payment with zero down.

I have access to the corporate fleet program which takes .0002 off the money factor, so my base mf should be .0011, correct? When I use that, I get a payment of about $403/mo. which includes my 5.13% sales tax rate.

In order to come up with their payment, I have to jack the money factor up to around .0021 - .0022. Or else they have some other hidden fees I'm not aware of ...

What would you calculate as an estimated payment? What am i missing?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I am new here and I am looking for a BMW 328i xdrive with premium package, cold weather package and driver assistant package. The MSRP is $45250. What is considered to be a good deal? $4500 off MSRP? $5000 off?

    Thank you!

  • dangoldsdangolds Member Posts: 20

Just about to sign the paperwork on a 2014 328i xdrive lease and wanted to see if you guys think the terms I got are good/reasonable:

328i xdrive with technology, cold weather, premium and driver assistance packages, luxury line, black sapphire metallic exterior and harmon karden sound system. Total MSRP - $51,900, total invoice - $47,900. Net Cap Cost of $46,760 after $2K cash build out but note that the acquisition fee is not built into the Net Cap Cost as I'm paying it up front.

Zero down aside from first month payment and fees/taxes. Fees/taxes total about $1,400 (mostly due to a slightly inflated acquisition fee of $925 that I couldn't knock down and a $220 doc fee).

Base MF of .0013 reduced to .0008 by paying $3,500 of MSD. RI state taxes of 7%.

Still debating whether to do 12K or 15K miles over 36 months but monthly price for each would be as follows:

    12K - $487/month
    15K - $517/month

I tried to get a couple dealers to $46,000 on the net cap cost but they wouldn't budge. They said the acquisition fee didn't factor into the dealer's profit but would instead end up as profit for BMW Financial Services, which is why the dealers wouldn't go any lower. I think this deal is pretty reasonable but want to make sure I'm not missing anything obvious.

    Thanks!

If I add a marked up acquisition fee ($925) and a marked-up money factor (.0017), then I get a payment of $452.mo.+tax... which is pretty close to their number.

You can't assume any of their numbers, unless they tell you what they are. You are assuming a corporate fleet discount on the MF, but you'll have to ask them what MF they are using. Also, find out the NET CAP COST that the lease payment is based on. It's likely to be something different from $39,995.

Also, what state are you in? Perhaps sales tax is computed differently in your state.

A good rule of thumb for BMW is 7% off MSRP, then subtract any incentives ($2K in this case). That's about $5150 off... That's an aggressive number, but a good place to start.

You must live in an unincorporated part of a county.

My tax rate is 7.9% and I'm not even in Metro Denver.

The tax is applied to the base payment, so the pre-tax numbers above would be adjusted by the 5.13% tax rate to get the final payment.

For what it's worth, this was the exact math that two different BMW dealers laid out for me when I was going through my negotiations last week. Seemed like the 7% haircut (before factoring in incentives) was the real point of resistance for them. They were happy to give 7% plus incentives with no funny business on the residuals or money factors, but stood firm on any cuts past that, even though they knew I was negotiating with multiple dealers in the area. They each told me to take it or leave it, and that they wouldn't be interested in matching if another dealer came in with a lower price.

Hello everyone...I'm negotiating a 2014 328d...please let me know what you think...there's not many left out there and only a few days left in July

    the deal is 36 months 10k/year, MF .0013 - 64% residual

    MSRP 45,825

    Invoice 42,165

Price 40,275 after incentives...calculation is negotiated price 39,350 + 925 (capitalized acq fee)

4,000 due at signing (2,950 Cap red. [way too high] + 1st month + 480 for doc, reg, tax, etc.)

    Payment: 310 base + 28 sales tax = 338

Any feedback/advice??? hows the negotiated price???deal worth taking????

I've done a few deals in the past but I've never utilized MSDs...this board has def peaked my interest! Also, I most likely will lower due at signing

Lastly, any advice on swapping out of my current lease 3 payments left and under mileage...

    Thanks in advance!

When I plug in your numbers ($45,825 MSRP and $37,325 net cap), I get a pre-tax payment of $308.79, so pretty close to your $310 number.

Seems like a solid deal - base MF and a good discount from sticker. As you've noted, you may want to use MSD instead of a cap cost reduction to lower your payment.

Regarding the trade in - forget that it has 3 payments left at $xxx/mo. Your current car has a payoff value, and a trade in value to the dealer. You either have positive or negative equity based on which number is bigger - you can roll the negative equity into your lease, or use the positive equity as MSDs or to cover some of the up front fees.

The selling price looks great... The acq.fee is marked up $200, but at that selling price, you have no complaints.

However, when I calculate with a CAP cost of $37,325 ($40,275 minus $2950 cap reduction), I get a pre-tax payment of $292/mo, not $310. I would verify with the dealer that they are actually using the .00130 MF. Otherwise, you are looking for a $600-$650 discrepancy.

    Overall, it's a great deal..

Need some serious help. I haven't leased a car in 10 plus years. All of these numbers make my head hurt to make matters worse I don't trust the dealer. What do you guys think about these numbers? Actually, it looks like it does ... the "selling price (after rebate)" probably includes the $2K build out - they just aren't calling it a rebate and lumping it into the discount of $5950.

What concerns me is that they are jacking up the MF on you ... base MF is .00130

And, it's not a good idea to use the trade equity as down payment. Have them cut you a check for that and stick it in the bank ... or, better yet, use it for MSD to buy down the MF from .00130.

What model is this? The 36/12 residual is either 62% or 63%. With my calculations, and backing out the trade equity (net cap cost goes to $42,936), I get a payment of $483.65 for the 62% residual or $471.32 for the 63% residual. Both with $0 down.

Thanks. It seems the dealer in MI is difficult to deal with. They don't even discuss $5000 off and claim doing that the dealer is losing money.

A good rule of thumb for BMW is 7% off MSRP, then subtract any incentives ($2K in this case). That's about $5150 off... That's an aggressive number, but a good place to start.

nice. But the dealers around me can only give around 6% off MSRP...

Michaell - you've been a tremendous help! Curious if you could help me factor trade into the equation. Believe I'd be carrying -3500 equity into the deal as I believe their Used Car dept is offering 32,500. Here's what they proposed...

Using a pay off of $37,059.00 and $36,000.00 for your trade
    .00160 Base Money Factor
    63% Residual
    MSRP $50,975.00
    Sales Price of $46,900.00
    12K Miles Per Year
    36 Months

    $590.89 with $2,586.18 Due
    $579.00 with $2,982.00 Due
    $613.00 with $1,880.00 Due

Sorry, I made a mistake in my original comment about the 7%. They went to 7% but then added back about a $500 profit so that they could show a 1% margin. So to summarize, they gave me 6% and took 1%, and that was the consistent message I received from multiple dealers in my area. I was ok with it though in light of the $2K incentive they were pushing in July for build out cash.

If they're giving you 6% plus the $2K of build out cash, that should still put you at a net sale price that's $5K lower than MSRP. Otherwise, they're not really giving you the 6%.

They are still marking up the MF on you. You should politely insist that they use the base MF of .00130 in your deal.

And, how do you get to $3500 of negative equity when you state "pay off of $37,059.00 and $36,000.00 for your trade" - that works out to $1059.

Noted on the MF, I'll keep pushing. They claim they need in effort to absorb "loss"

I'm assuming the -3500 is carrying over given the inflated monthly cost? I do know Used Car mgr offered 32,500 on truck, can imagine they are eating the differential?

I asked what this car would be w/o trade factored - $50,975.00 with $2500.00 Down you would be around $539.00 per month.

After sitting down and reviewing my own deal. The numbers just don't add up for me when I compare it to the Edmunds calculator to check the dealers work. This is what they offered on a '14 328i x Drive - Sports Line, Nav, SensaTec/Red Highlight. (see below) I am actually okay with sale price, but when I calculate the deal it appears they have a residual value of about $21000 at the end of the lease. The MF is wrong also. Shouldn't the residual value be more like $30k? That makes a huge difference in monthly payment. They have $589/mo, when I calculate it I am at $370/mo.

This is the deal I gotten into for a new 2014 428i convertible. May be good or bad deal -- I cannot back out now, but any comment/ discussion should help potential buyers.

    MSRP 50225

TOTAL DUE at signing: $5008 Break-up of $5008 due at signing: Cap cost reduction: 4146 First month payment: 498 FL License Fees: 254 Sales/ Use Tax : 63 Sales Tax (on Cap cost reduction): 249 Dealer Fee: 799 Less BMW Rebate: ($1000)

    LEASE TERM: 3years/ 10000 miles per year LEASE MONTHLY PAYMENT: $470 + $28 (Tax) = $498

And I'm getting a third number. MSRP $46,590, net cap $39,936, 36/12 residual of 63% and .00170 MF (which we both know is inflated). I get a pre-tax payment of $411.80. Residual value at end of lease is $29,351.70 (63% of MSRP).

If I change the MF to the base of .00130 and leave everything else the same, the pre-tax payment drops to $384.08.

We aren't big fans of making a down payment on a lease; if you back that out, the pre-tax payment goes up $115/mo.

Seems a fair deal - enjoy your new droptop!

Looking for August lease rates and incentives on the following cars:

    328i Xdrive
    ActiveHybrid 3
    335i Xdrive

I am in the market to buy in August/September as BMW has lemoned my car and is buying it back/refunding me.

We don't yet have the August numbers for BMW ... hopefully today, maybe early next week.

Hello! My wife and I are researching our first BMW purchase and are interested in a 2015 320i xDrive with European Delivery. We are located in Illinois (tax law changing 1/1/15) and would like to lease. Can anyone offer me some aggressive pricing and potential lease figures? Thanks!
