36 months is the way to go.

Looking at the '14 Jetta TDI Prem w/ Nav and Gas version SEL, but can't decide, any suggestions? FYI, looking at 36 mo/12K mi/$0 down lease..I've seen $279/mo with $1,279 due at signing for TDI and $309 with $1,309 due at signing for Gas or can I do better? Making a decision in July, so any info based on your experience is appreciated!

We would need the MSRP and selling prices of both cars, along with a breakdown of the upfront costs (taxes, fees, first pmt, etc). Also, what state is this in? Tax laws vary and may impact the payment.

I live in Florida. MSRP for TDI is $27,215 and SEL is $26,745, no money down on either, only upfront cost is the money I mentioned above due at signing. I'm coming to the end of my current lease of a 2010 VW Jetta 2.5 SE with 30K mi (36mo/12k mi/yr) with 1 payment left in Aug. (turn-in Sept).

As per someone's suggestion over on the Passat thread, I am going to look at a Jetta this afternoon. The model I am interested in is the SE + Connectivity, I found a couple on the dealer website for between $22k and $23k MSRP depending on accessories.

When I went in and looked at the Passat, they were willing to knock about $4k off the MSRP. But the salesmen said over the phone with a Jetta, they won't be able to do a deal like that, therefore it will probably come out to be more expensive. This seems strange to me, as I have already heard the new Jettas are coming out in the next couple months. Any pointers on what a good negotiated price would be? Also, the lease I'm looking to get into will be a 24mo at 15k/yr.

TDI RV and MF are 59% and .0007 - I calculate a 36/12 pre-tax payment at $225.87.

That's probably true - VW is having a hard time moving Passats and so are offering better incentives. It might be a wash in terms of a monthly lease payment.

Use the pricing tools at the top of the page to figure out a target price - should still be pretty close to invoice. $750 lease cash also available to help bring down the net cap cost. .0002 MF and 56% RV for 24/15.

The "Make", "Model" and "Year" pull downs access the pricing tools here at Edmunds. Put in a zip code and follow the prompts to determine the target price.

Base MF for the Jetta SE is .00020 and the 36/12 residual is 51%. There is $750 lease cash available this month.

If you use your $1000 for 1st payment, title/registration/dealer fees, and add $625 acq.fee to the selling price for a CAP cost of $26,446, then the payment would be $321/mo + tax, or about $351/mo. with tax.

First time leaser.

Looking into picking up a Jetta Hybrid SEL or SEL premium. 15K/36 month. Maryland resident. I think in MD, you have to pay the entire tax amount based on the purchase price rather than tax on a per month basis over only the length of lease like other states, not sure though.

Anyways, please let me know the MF and residual values. If anyone in the DC area has leased the hybrid model..please post up your purchase data to help me make the right choice!

I think you are correct about MD sales tax on leases. Of course, you can have that sales tax amount rolled into the lease payment. With the MF being so low, that's what I would do.
