What are the MSRP and selling prices? How does the $2000 up front get applied?

Seems a good deal on the surface, but the devil is in the details.

OK. Actually, additional protection was included in Gross Cap Cost, so precise monthly payment is $136/mo. MSRP is $19385. Negotiated price is 13,717. Adjusted cap. cost 14759. Residual 70%. Rent charge is 405. So, it appears that MF is 0.00045 or 1.08% rate?
Actually, I offered to put $2000 down myself, so why does it make a difference how was it applied?
    Thank you.

Is this lease through VW Credit? The VW Credit numbers do show a MF of .00045, but the 36/12 residual is 53%. Not sure where the 70% is coming from .. I've never seen a 36 month residual that high on any make or model.

Yes, it is through VW Credit. Is it good or is it bad if residual is that high? It's $4485 in depreciation over 3 years.
Well, maybe it is because the negotiated price is low, maybe not. After all, it doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is how my total numbers are compared to those from other VW dealers or makes.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but all those numbers like MF and residual are relative numbers that are useful to compare vehicles of different classes and different trims.
But there are people who just need the cheapest lease possible including myself. And for them it can be done by comparing absolute numbers like total of payments (monthly payments + money down).

The residual is set by VW credit and cannot be modified by the dealer.

If you focus only on the monthly payment you may feel like you are getting the deal you want but the dealer can manipulate the numbers to make them extra profit. You, on the other hand, could have gotten an even lower payment by paying attention to the mechanics of a lease deal.

    2014 Jetta GLI - Edition 30 DSG
    MSRP: $29,645
    Internet Price: $25,593
    36 M / 12 K
$0.00 money down, no fees, no registration fees, no nothing
Got a quote from the dealer today - $361 with MA Sales Tax of 6.25%

    I used 53% RV and 0.00015 MF and got to that number. My calcs;
    Cap Cost: $25,593.00
    RV: $13,564.29
    Monthly before tax: $340.00
    Monthly w/6.25% MA tax: $361.25

Questions; Am I running the calcs right? Are there any other incentives or dealer cash available to bring the price down before a bit of haggling?

Residual value is a percentage of the MSRP, not the CAP cost. Residual is $15,711.85

I would guess that the CAP cost is not $25,593. You may not be paying registration, acquisition fee, etc, upfront, but they have to be paid somewhere. Ask the dealer for the CAP cost and a breakdown of the amount (selling price, fees, registration, etc).

Your money factor and residual percentage are correct. You are calculating somewhat correctly, but you don't have all of the information needed (CAP cost) and you were incorrectly applying the residual percentage.

So I am agreeing to a deal for $339.45 per month.  36 Months, 12K and Zero Down, Zero first month payment.  RV is 15711.85, MF 0.00015, I got to a Cap Cost of 26984.01.  MSRP was 29645.  so i am paying 11272 in depreciation for the 36 months.  Payment before taxes 319.52. Just throwing it out there for a comparison. How do you think I did? Sales Manager was giving me a hard time about getting a good deal but I think I got the car I wanted for an ok deal, could have been better but would have taken more time.

I'm interested in leasing a 2014 Jetta SE Sedan in Manual with Connectivity and Sunroof. Could someone please tell me the MF and RV for a 36/10 lease in South Florida. Also, how much discount can I expect? I was thinking 20-25% off MSRP at this time of year should be attainable. Thanks in advance for your help!

Looking for residual and MF for 2014 Jetta Value Edition. Dealers are offering these for $5k off MSRP. Will that price hold up for a lease, or are there incentives in there that only apply to a purchase?

    Thanks!

Is the Value Edition a TDI?

    If so,

    .00065 MF and 55% residual for 36mo, 15K/yr with $1750 lease cash.

It's possible that the $5000 off would apply to a lease, but I sort of doubt it.. Probably some big sales incentives that get replaced by the $1750 lease cash. But, it sure doesn't hurt to ask..

If the Value Edition isn't the TDI, then come back and tell me which model..

Thanks. As far as I know, the only Value Edition available is a TDI. No gas models are designated this way.

    JETTA GLI SEL Auto

    MSRP: $31,600

    MF: .00089
    RV: 59%

    $350/month, 12k, 36-months

I confirm both the .00089 MF and 59% residual for 36/12.

Plugging in your MSRP and cap cost, I get a pre-tax payment of $339.59/mo. Seems like something's been added to the cap cost to account for the extra $10/mo ($360 for the lease term).

    Thanks for the info.

MSRP: $31,600 (sorry about the typo in the original message) This is my first quote for this vehicle. Not a bad starting point I guess, just have to trim the out of pocket inception fee and a little off the monthly.
  • bassmiesternjbassmiesternj Member Posts: 48
    I'm thinking a CAP cost around $27.5K

    Hello!

I hope I am asking this question in the correct discussion.

My husband has a 32 month 35,000 mile lease with his VW Jetta. The lease began 12/31/13.

He is going active duty status in the Navy July 14 and may break his lease under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. Under law he cannot be charged a $350 early termination fee. However, we are responsible for any taxes, excessive wear and tear and mileage.

We are planning to turn our lease in sometime in June following the approval and inspection. We are currently 2,000 miles over the prorated mileage to this date of our lease and expect to go over another 1,000 by June. We, of course, expected to see in our lease a per mile charge for excessive mileage.

We have looked our lease up and down and do see the statement for the per mile overage charge and it was left completely blank. No zero. Just blank. Everything else was typed in all the blanks in the contract whether it was a number or N/A, but this blank was left empty.

Is this what we think it means? This is a legal binding contract. Will this part of the lease be honored? Could we in fact pay nothing for our overage in miles?

Please share your thoughts! Much appreciated!

    Chrissy

I don't have any legal advice..

But, if your signature is on their copy of the lease.. and that number is on their copy, then you will probably have to pay what you owe.

If you are curious, call VCI and ask them what the charge per mile overage is on your lease.

    Hi All,
New to the leasing process. Interested in leasing a VW Jetta TDI SEL with $0 down (roll up of taxes and fees = $29K, except for DMV) 12K/36.
Does anyone know what the May lease factors (and how different they are from April) are and maybe an estimate of what would be a good monthly rate on what I'm looking for?

The VW numbers expire on 4/30. We won't have the May numbers until early next week.
