2014 Volkswagen Passat Lease Questions

We are looking at a 2015 Passat TDI® Clean Diesel SEL Premium
MSRP $34,825
Dealer Quoted $32,878
Looking at the 0 down deal and expect to get at least $1000 for our trade in.
On the VW site it looks like this combo should get is into a payment around 419-429 per month
What do you think?
I tried to get them down to 31k but right now they are telling me that they get a better incentive with purchase then they do a lease and it shows here on edmunds that they do indeed get $1500 more on the purchase but still get $1000 on the lease.

What lease term and miles per year?

Current numbers are .00107 and 57% for 36/15 - I'm showing no lease cash.

With your MSRP and Selling Price, I get a pre-tax payment of $418.30. The $1000 trade equity will lower your payment by about $28/mo, before tax.

Ok so in non financial terms would that be a good or bad deal or somewhere in between? I have tried to compare to some other posts but not to many are looking at the TDI

Ok so doing a bit of reading and a higher residual value is what the car is estimated to be worth in % of original purchase/lease cost after the lease has ended. The higher the number the lower your payment over the course of the lease. Just have to watch that it is not stupid high as that can get you in a bind at the end of the lease if you want to purchase. Would that be a correct statement?

One other question. I had the dealership send me an example of the lease paperwork and there is a Rent Charge on the example. It says "The amount charged in addition to the deprecation and any amortized amounts." What is this charge really for and can it be negotiated out of the price?

Two variables in a lease - selling price and MF. Negotiate the best selling price you can and ensure that the MF isn't inflated by the dealer.

Residual value is set by the bank and cannot be modified. Yes, higher is better, as that lowers the amount you pay for depreciation.

Residual is calculated as a % of MSRP, not the selling price.

Rent charge is the lease equivalent to interest .. what it will cost you to borrow the money for the lease. The .00107 MF equates to about 2.6%.

It means you negotiate your best deal, then subtract $500 from it for the Black Friday bonus.

Just closed on a solid deal today on a new 2015 1.8T SEL.
MSRP of $32,705, sell price of $29,181 less $3000 lease cash and $500 Black Friday cash results in a cap cost of $25,681.
MF of .00038 and residual of 51% for a 36 mo/12k lease.
With zero down and all fees, licenses, and sales tax (Virginia) rolled into the deal, I ended up with a $330/mo payment. Without tax would be below $300. VW covers the first payment through the current sign then drive promotion. $0 out of pocket cost today to drive off, then 35 more payments at the $330. I thought that was a pretty good deal for a car retailing over $32k.
The dealer was great. Super easy negotiation and closing.

My number is less than $4 different than the quote, or $150 over the life of the lease. Is it worth it to you?

The only variables in a lease are the MF and the selling price.

jimmydean7, I have 3 months left on my current Passat lease. Will keep you posted as I get closer to making a decision. The residual value on the 2015 is low compared to some other vehicles I am looking at(Mazda 6, Legacy).

@jimmydean7-getting closer to a new Passat, have had a few quotes in the 22K to 22,500 range for the selling price. Sounds like there is a lot of lease cash available. Will keep you posted.

Hey could I get the MF and residual for a new Passat 1.8 Sport?  I'm getting a quote from a dealer now, the GM is a friend of mine, but i still think she is quoting me way too high. $355 for 36/10k with $1000 down. This is after tax and in Indiana. I will get more details soon but it just sounds high to me. They say they cannot go lower.

Are the taxes being rolled into the selling price or added to the payment? If the former, I get $250.81/mo; if the latter, $251.40/mo. Either way, less than your $274/mo quote.

I suspect there are other fees being added into the selling price. Ask the dealer for the net cap cost, and have them explain how they arrived at that number.

jimmydean-picked up my new car today. SE with Sunroof and Nav. final monthly was $268, I had two payments left on my current lease. Car stickered at $29110 and they included the monster mats and the 20K and 30K service. When i notified other dealers that i had decided on a car, they kept dropping their quotes, but none had the exact car i wanted. good luck on your search.
