Using your numbers, I get a pre-tax payment of $396.51 - 6% tax takes the payment of $420.30. So, all looks good.

So good deal Michaell, don't think i'll get a better deal right?
You are paying the base MF, so unless you can get more shaved off the MSRP, it looks pretty good from here.

What options did the car come with for this MSRP?
nothing except the M sport package.
julio... never heard back from you.. why do you ask.
@darian929 just curious I thought they hardly have any 228i M sport with no Packages. Next time tag me because I didnt know you responded. I dont get notifications unless you tag my username
On a M235, could you provide the MF and Residual for a 36 month w/ 10k per year?
.00130 and 63%. $1000 option credit.

What is the margin for dealer added accessories? (e.g., diffuser)
FYI -- here is the lease deal (for 36 months, 30,000 miles) that I received on a 2014 228i in Estoril Blue with M Sport package, Navigation and Xenon lights...
@Mark : Thanks for posting... That's a pretty good deal, 7% off MSRP minus the $1000 incentive. They hit you with a $200 markup on the acquisition fee, but you got the base money factor, so that's good.
On the $3000 drive-off? $385 1st payment, $371.75 DMV/tire fee, $1973.32 CCR. That's about $2740.... I guess the other $260 is $80 doc fee and $180 tax on the CCR?
If I were structuring the deal, I'd drop the CAP cost reduction and do 7 MSDs. That would drop the MF to .00081.
Payment = $379.50+tax = $414.60.
Due at signing:
$414.60 1st payment
$371.75 DMV/tire fee
$80 doc fee
$3150 MSDs (7 X $450 refundable security deposit).
$4016.35 total due at signing.
That's a savings of about $950 over the lease term... for letting them hold your $3150 for 36 months.. It's about $30/mo. more and $1000 more due at signing.... but, the $3150 is a deposit that you get back..
Of course, the most important part? The car.. Nice choice!

The parts aren't marked up that much... It's the installation charges that are a killer. Accessories can kill a good lease deal.

Great analysis -- thanks! I feel good about it because I was looking for the M Sport package with a manual transmission, and this car has both. Hard to find!
Right off the lot, huh? Good deal! Finding a stick is tough...

Nice deal Mark. All of a sudden I feel my deal for the 228i base with just m sport for $420 inc/tax is not that great. I wish it has xenon included as I love that and maybe a backup camera.
Should I hold out on this car and ask for a better price?
Thanks @darian929. Yes, I would try to work out a better deal if you haven't yet pulled the trigger. Why don't you post the basic deal numbers here so that @kyfdx can make some suggestions?
Are the money factors you all are providing based off of the national offers on the BMW website? I have been following them pretty closely as I'm about to pull the trigger on an M235.
They have a new offer posted for July, looks like they kept the $1k option allowance but reduced the term to 33 months. It looks like the money factor has dropped as well, can anyone confirm?
I've been trying to back out the stats from the national ads into the money factor, but I can never quite get to their payment numbers.
There is a special 33 month term for July.
.00130 MF and 62% residual for 33mo, 15K/yr. $1000 build out cash.
It's hard to reverse-engineer the ads, because most of them don't give you the discount from MSRP that is assumed to get that price.

Thanks for your reply. I didn't realize there was a discount assumed in there, makes sense now. Using that .0013 MF and the other factors from the ad, then it looks like they're taking ~$468 off sticker (in addition to $1k option allowance) to get it down to the advertised $449.
I actually customized one (no sticks in stock anywhere) in late April and it should arrive soon. They told me they couldn't budge off sticker on the 235, but I was told that if the lease program improved that I would get the better deal. Planning on 3 years, 12k miles, they gave me 62% residual. So I'm thinking that I should be able to get the $1000 build out and the .0013 MF, unless I'm missing something?
Also based on your other posts, it looks like I should do as many security deposits as I can instead, instead of anything towards a down payment? At first I wasn't planning on putting anything down but the MSD sounds like ~10% return on money.
Yes... I think the actual assumed discount is $500, in addition to the $1000. The term they are pushing/advertising is 33 months, with a 64% residual for 33mo, 12K/yr.
MSDs: On the advertised lease, if you did 7 MSDs, and dropped the money factor to .00081, and each MSD was $500, your payment would drop by $35/mo.+tax. Let's assume that's $37/mo. with tax.
12 X $37 = $444 annually divided by $3500 MSDs = 12.68% annual after-tax return. If your payment happens to drop under $450 with tax, then the MSDs are only $3150 and the savings is the same, but the annual return rises to 14.09%
You can't get rich leasing a new BMW, but you can save a little money..

Great info here, thanks to everyone involved.
So the current M235i residual is 64% with 12k/yr? Seems like 10k a year is 65% from BMW's online offer, is that correct? MF .0013?
Looking at an M235i right now and if I can get them to drop the price by $3k off MSRP, then it would be $553.60 + tax per month. If I do the MSDs, then $513.95 + tax per month. Seems pretty good...if I can get then to drop the price.
Those numbers are correct.. .please note that they are for a 33-month term.

Negotiated $48,000 on an M235i with Premium, Tech, Drivers Assistance Pkg and Harmon Kardon audio. MSRP $50,850
$553 + tax with zero down payment but TTL, $725 acquisition and first month up front. With max MSDs, which I would do, $513 + tax per month 33 months 10k per year.
Thanks for the input.
Looks like a solid deal.

Ended up getting a bit more of a discount on the car but a .0017 MF since I didn't qualify for the Tier 1 .0013. I negotiated the sale price of the car to $46,860 (from MSRP 50,850) so that even with the .0017, the payment is the same as it would have been with the old sales price and better MF. Car is absolutely fantastic.
Congrats on the new car!

Special 33 month residual for this month is 63%

@hx_guy Hey, could you tell us what your Title, Taxes and Licenses costs were? I'm trying to gauge if I got a good deal for the M235i or not. Is your $553 NOT including taxes and upfront fees?
@kyfdx I know you guys usually require more information to get a better assessment (residual + MF), but the dealer wouldn't give me anymore additional information besides the below. Could you please provide any kind of advice? Thanks so much!!
Car Breakdown
M235i Automatic: $43,100
Leather $1,450
Technology $2,150
Heated seats: $500
Destination charge: $925
Total MSRP: $48,125
Negotiated MSRP: $44,800 (it would be $43,800 after the ultimate drive event!)
Payment Breakdown
33 Months, 10,000 miles
595.36/mo (TTL included, see below)
Disposition fee: $350 (included in payment)
Taxes: $1737.24 @ 8.875% (included in payment)
Document fee: $359 (included in payment)
Purchase Option: $31,281.25
Security Deposits: $4,200 (Maximum)
Total out of pocket: $4,795.36 ($4200 MSD & $595.36 Monthly Payment). I was told payments would be $570-$575 after the $1000 from the ultimate drive event.
RV is 65% for 33/10 and the base MF is .00130. Using your MSRP and negotiated price with the discounted MF of .00081, I get a pre-tax payment of $440.17. It's possible the dealer is inflating the MF on you. Acq fee is also bumped up from the base of $725.
I can see why the dealer is hiding numbers from you.

@Michaell Thanks for the analysis! Does the $440.17 payment contain any of the fees rolled in? Additionally, did you use the negotiated MSRP of 44,800?
Any tips to approach this would be most appreciated!
I used the $43,800 - if you roll in any start up fees to the cap cost, the payment will naturally go up.

@Michaell Just to make sure again, $440.17 is based on $43,800 negotiated MSRP and base MF with NO taxes, or any other fees rolled in yet. Purely just the car itself? And you're right, the BMW USA website states $725 acquisition fee, would they budge if I refer to that?
Also, would you happen to know the average documentation fee for NJ? I got charged $359 and they said it was standard
Correct - $440.17 is based on net cap cost of $43,800, nothing rolled in. Acq fee is $725, but can be bumped to $925 by dealer. Cannot be negotiated below that figure.
Doc fees in NJ are in the $300-400 range, I've heard.

@Michaell This was very useful! It's definitely hard negotiating with dealers and I feel that dealers will always win and it would be very difficult for a customer to get the "best" deal. Thanks to your help, I can make some educated decisions/comments to help drive closer to that "best" deal. I don't mind losing some money as long as I'm towards the better end of the deal spectrum. Thanks so much! I'll post my final deal if I decide to go for the M235i
considering trading in my 95 M3 for one of these. will the trade in value of my car reduce the taxes charged for the new vehicle?
What state is this? I ask because the taxation for leases vary from state to state.
And, I truly believe that you can get more for your M3 on the private market than you could trading it in. How much? Head over to the "real world trade in values" discussion and ask @qbrozen - he should give you a pretty good idea.

Here is my latest deal for M235i with premium package and heated seats. They couldn't deliver the white one I wanted and we had to work out a new deal on a Grey exterior/Black interior car.
MSRP: 47,375
Cash Sale Price: 43,266.19
Max MSD
Document Fee: 369
Acquisition Fee: 762
Disposition Fee: 350
Monthly $477.59 (NY taxes at 8.875% already included in this figure, fees above are paid upfront)
I will try to get dealer down to $725 acquisition fee, but I really don't think it means much
Can you provide the MF and residual for an m235i, 12k lease? Also, can you explain how the MF is affected with the security deposit(s)?
I'm getting 2K off msrp (50475 -> 48475) and would like to see if the numbers they're giving me make sense.
Thanks!
36 month lease? .00130 MF and 60% residual. (64% residual for 33 month lease).
If you use the MSD program, each deposit lowers the MF by .00007.. maximum of 7 deposits for a total reduction of .00049, or a final base MF of .00081

MSRP: 50475
negotiated price: 48475
Term: 33m
Rate: 0.00081 (post deposit, assumed)
Fees up front: 2k (not sure how much applied toward cap reduction, but assumed 0 for purposes of calculation)
Residual: 61% (this is what dealer told me)
9% Ca tax
I get a payment of 654/mo inc taxes
He quoted me 595 inc tax
I'd have to drop the sale price to below 47000 to get that value on with my calculator. Obv that's impossible to do with 2k upfront fee.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance!
Something is off.. Is he quoting on a 2014 model? Because the residual is definitely 64% for 33mo, 12K/yr. Which might be the problem. Possibly a communication issue. Run your numbers with 64% as the residual, and you'll be pretty close.

M235i xdrive lease 36 months 15k
Price $46,100 MSRP 47,850
MF .00130
Residual .58 -27,753
Govt fee $150
Taxes 2073.69
Down payment $5779.52
Payment $554.52
Not that great... There is a $1000 incentive on that model, and you are only getting $2000 off? Drop the price another $2000, and you are in the right ballpark.

2015 model, right? I'll assume the $5779.52 is the full amount due at signing, including that tax bill and the first payment? It would really help to know how much of that $5779 goes to a CAP cost reduction. The money factor is the base, but the discount isn't very big. However, the 2015 is brand new, so it's not a bad deal... just an expensive car to lease. Tax seems really high.. what state?

Yes it's a 2015 it's one of the first with xdrive. I just ordered it it won't be ready till mid September. All I got off was the $1000 for showing up to the drive event They would not go any lower I tried. Your right I don't see anything on the paper about cap cost reduction or cap cost at all. I live in PA, the taxes are high. I'm using a NJ dealerI just wanted to see if I missed something I could have called him out on but in the end I expected the payment to be where it is. I thought I saw you mention a 33 month 15k lease deal for the month of July in a past post.
