It's a lease. Had been going back and forth with the dealer for a few days. They kept coming in significantly higher than my current payment. The residual was lower and the deal I got on the 15 was "exceptional" (their words).

Finally, they called around 3 yesterday and came up with first payment down and about $25 more a month. At that point I got blunt. I said, the only way I will buy the car is exact same payment as I have now and not one dollar out of my pocket. If you can't do that, please don't even call back and I'll understand.

Well, they called back and said the deal could be done. This model was about $1200 more than the 15 (extra cost paint, more safety nannies). GM waived my last five payments, $1000 wear and tear on the 15 in case I need it (I won't) and scheduled maintenance for two years. Dealer discount was around $4300, and then over $7200 in rebates from the pull ahead.

Walked in at 7:15 and was out by 8:45. It would have been quicker but getting Liberty Mutual on the phone took about 30 minutes on hold (I'm guessing high call volumes from Texas).

All in all we are happy. It's an outgoing model, but we really do like it and this time we got the exact color combo and options we wanted.

Funny thing is - I use Equifax as my credit and account protection source.  I pay $150+ a year for their services.  I get a monthly report each month and when a company or individual views my credit report, I am alerted by text and email.

Go figure - I paid and still my info was compromised - by the very company I pay to protect me.

Yes, I got the email and did what I was supposed to do. Now I wait for the other shoe to drop.

Wow. They took you to the bank more than one way. But rest easy knowing that 3 days after the breach was known to Equifax 3 executives sold hundreds of thousands of dollars of shares before the knowledge became public and the share price went down.

And EFX is claiming they had no idea about the breach. What a coincidence!

Corporate crimes need to face far harsher punishments than the slaps on the wrist we see currently. Channel the energies from non-violent soft drug offenses and civil asset forfeiture robbery into going after people who have created so much of a mess in the past few decades.

Well, hurricane shutters are up.  My brother's SO just arrived from Orlando.  They went over to Publix to do some last minute shopping.

My car will be outside during the storm because there is no place else to park it.  I have it nose in right in front of his garage.

Even up here in the Jacksonville metro area they are in full preparedness with evacuations in Ponte Vedra Beach.  We had dinner at TPC Sawgrass last night where the Players TPC golf championship is played every year.  We are about 4-5 miles west of the beach so we don't expect any major flooding here.  But the restaurant we ate at advised us they will be closing at midnight tonight until further notice.

The worst scenario is if we lose power.  That would put a serious variable into play.  Pray for us and all of Florida.  This doesn't look good! :o

Are there any concrete multistory parking garages at malls?

The only good thing is with the path now projected the center will be over land and will be losing energy as it moves up through the center of FL wreaking havoc on both coasts but more so on the east which gets the winds off the ocean

Well, yes and no. She isn't very car savvy.

Since there are tons of silver Legacy's (Subie had to get a good deal on that paint), Mrs. j found herself standing behind the rear bumper of lots of cars that did not belong to her trying to open the trunk with the FOB. Of course it didn't work so she went to Plan B and was plenty proud of herself for doing it.

To use her words, as best as I can remember her telling me this about 2 months after she got her 2012 Legacy, "I just look for those two round things under the rear bumper". When she told me this I told her that cars today don't have real bumpers. What you see are bumper covers, and BTW, those round things are tailpipes. Her response was, "don't get technical with me. I'm just happy to finally know how to find my car now".

I told you she isn't car savvy but she's happy so I ain't going to rock the boat.

    jmonroe
Why not just write the license plate number on her key fob?
Until she found the easy way of looking for "those 2 round things under the rear bumper", she did start looking for her plate number but found that she could see "those 2 round things..." from a further distance.

Like I said in my previous post, she's happy so I ain't going to rock the boat.

There is a panic button on the FOB.....she could just press that!
You tell her that. When I mentioned this, she said she would be embarrassed to do that. She dislikes it when others have to find their cars that way so that method is definitely out of the question. :@

reading about the mandatory evacuation orders down in Fla., wondering if that covered Sandy's area? Seems like he must be close if not in it. Though not likely anyone comes to rip them out of the house.

Mike, the parking in a garage sounds like a good plan actually. In the center, protected by a post? If that doesn't protect your car, you got much bigger problems to worry about.

I definitely have decided not to move any place on water after the last few weeks. I don't like boating, so no loss there. Will just take our annual vacation and a few day trips down to the shore to get a salt water and sand fix.

No parking garages anywhere near us.

Regarding Sandy. We both live west of the Turnpike.  Evacuation areas for Pompano Beach are east of US 1 and I-95 in some spots.  We are not in flood zones - too far west

I just talked with my employee in Orlando. They live in a newer house, which is supposedly strengthened to withstand hurricanes. They have friends coming over to stay with them - the friends live in an older house that may not be as sturdy when the wind starts to blow.

His daughter's fiancé flew into town last night. Originally, they were going to spend the weekend at Disney World, etc., the get on the road to NJ on Monday or Tuesday of next week. Dad told them to get out of town - today. They left at 5 this morning - roads were not terribly crowded, gas was available, but the biggest problem has been finding restaurants that are open.

I despise our legal system. Received the following email this morn. So the lawyers get $2M to award people 0.26% from a silly coin counting machine. Absurd.

So, people are complaining because they lost a few pennies each time they took their pennies in to be counted in the machine? Wouldn't a normal person just figure that is part of the cost of having a machine count out my silly pennies,

btw, in Canada we have not had pennies for about 5 years now......don't miss them one bit. They just round prices up or down a nickel......they cost more to make than they were worth.
don't get me started. Drove me nuts. TD was wonderful. Bring your bucket of coins, dump them in, get cash money with no fee. it was wonderful. But some people just have to rain in everyone's cornflakes, and caused a big stink. All the machines got audited, and some were a little off. Most were exact or extremely close, a few actually gave extra. very few were shorting by a notable amount. I, like probably 99 percent of users, were perfectly fine by this. But some loudmouths that like regulations made a stink. Now some lawyers get rich, I might get $1 back eventually, and if you want your coins counted it costs 7.5% at a coinstar. So basically, everyone in this loses, other than the lawyers. Me, TD, other customers. And I guess the crusaders can feel like they accomplished something?
To be fair, if the coin machines had big signs that said you might only get 98% back on the dollar, in big bold warning print, perhaps no lawsuits would have ever been filed. Either make accurate machines or state clearly that they are not. Also, if they make errors, it should go in both directions so that it is fair, if it always favors the house, then that is deliberate theft.

same here. I think from the various other breaches, I have signed up for free protection about 4 times already. I also still pay for a service (probably a waste) but at least I know quickly if there is any activity on my credit.

You know gas prices will always be X.x7-1/2 or .X.x2-1/2 if we get rid of the penny. Essentially everything would go up by at least 4 cents.

Been there, done that.  Great advice but no vacant spots within a block - all houses have 2+ cars or a boat.  My brother's SO is parked right behind me on the driveway.  Had to leave room so he could get either one of his cars out.  He has a 2-1/2 car garage,  the 1/2 garage with its own garage door fits a golf cart.

Lawyers will have a field day. My main concern is that it will go really slow in parking garages, causing bottlenecks and rage.

If I had one of these, it would pull in striking a Bentley on one side, a Rolls-Royce on the other, then automatically drive off. My current car, like many out there now, has mostly automated parallel parking. I have never used it.

I like how they included an old C123 that cuts in front of the self-parking car.

2018 E Class autonomous valet parking. Nice, but overkill me thinks. I remember Volvo once promoted the technology but I'm not sure if they were to execute. Watch short video and comment.

I'd like to see the automated driving programs include "diminished value" payments and coverage for any incidents caused by the automated parking program before I'd trust it.

Well, I didn't win the $750 million Powerball the other night so my plan to buy each of you a car of your choice has been ruined. It's not fair that I don't get to be filthy rich and share it with my friends. :'(

The instant you won you would have had too many friends. Many you never knew you had before.

Here's a question. I heard that the PB winner had the option of remaining anonymous but chose to come forward. Me, I'd hide somewhere until I had a team of lawyers and financial advisors on board and would do everything I could to shield my identity just for the reason you mentioned.

    Would you go public?

I'd love to have the ability to help friends, family and worthy causes but I wouldn't want to make a big show of it.

No way. Matter of fact, I'd probably go in disguise to the lottery office to claim the money. Then, I'd find a way to sneak out the back door once I picked up the check.

I WOULD still post here. And, I would keep my current car, just to be safe from being found out.
We'd wonder how you came into "sudden" money as soon as you purchased that new Acura NSX

Although Massachusetts law requires lottery winners to be made public, some recipients in the past have created a trust and had a trustee accept the winnings to protect their anonymity.

There also are a few other things she needs to do. For one, because she chose the $480.5 million lump sum instead of 30 payments over 29 years, she should alert her financial institution that it's about to get a deposit of hundreds of millions of dollars.

An estimated $120.1 million will go to Uncle Sam and $24 million to Massachusetts state coffers, leaving Wanczyk with a measly $336 million before the vultures (lawyers, accountants, financial planners) set in.

    Hahahaha!

now, I've heard of many withdrawal limits, both cash and electronic, ACH, per day and per week, and per month limits, anything to make it hard to get your own money from banks!

However, I've never heard of a deposit limit. I think there was some fine print about how a large deposit my trigger the NSA among others to spy on you, but nothing about not accepting the check.

Congrats on your new ride. Nice color.

If I was smart I would get the vin numbers of all the cars traded by this group and seek them out when they come on the market. Most of you are so OCD that your used cars are probably better than new.

    Thanks all

    @jmonroe
This would be burgundy car number 4, so yes I guess it's one of my favorites.  Three of them had beige interior and one grey.

    @oldfarmer50
The used car manager was checking out my 15 that I was turning in.  He said if GM financial gave the right number it will be on the lot.

Mike, glad you made it to Jacksonville, hopefully out of harms way.

It would be too bad if someone had to do that trip in a Nissan Leaf :@

(The official EPA range for the 2016 Leaf with the 30 kWh battery is 172 km (107 miles), while the range for Leaf with the smaller 24 kWh is 135 km (84 miles), the same as the 2014/15 model year.)

Disney World will be closed until Tuesday!

Has anyone even been able to buy a 2018 yet?
Most Leaf owners have them as a secondary vehicle.
Given the difficulty of getting gas, a fully charged Tesla or Bolt might be nice!

I wonder if Disney's insurance will compensate them for lost revenues? They could just say they closed it out of an abundance of caution, but if the storm misses them, that's on them?

You'd think Equifax would have learned from the Choicepoint debacle. Choicepoint was a spinoff of Equifax.
In CP, senior management used to get stock options on a regular basis, which do expire.
They were usually a good deal, like $3 for stock selling at $30+.
    Who wouldn't cash that in?

Isn't that like saying I don't drive for the love of driving, I don't care what I drive, as long as it gets me to work and back as cheaply inexpensively as possible?
No, it's called matching your ride to your drive. My daily commute is just under 11 miles, has 22 stop lights (7 Are at major intersections and two of them back traffic up a considerable distance) with an average speed of 25 MPH give or take. It's a drive that only Leopode von Sacher-Masoch would love. So something like the spark would work well if all I it will be only driven in that environment.

Now if I want to do it as cheaply as possible I would get a 49cc engine and slap it on my bicycle.

    Also cross-posting from CCBA!

Was finally able to reach a satisfactory deal on a new car to replace the ATS - with another ATS. But not just any ATS, this is a 2017 ATS 3.6 Performance Premium with just about every goodie they offer. Incentives brought the price down by about 20% and I figured it was time to get the one I always wanted. Red Obsession outside, Kona Brown leather inside. It sure is pretty and man, with 335HP on tap does it ever move!

This one is a purchase, so I'm off the lease train. Now I just have to study the manuals so I can figure out how all this stuff works. So many geegaws. I do like the heads-up display though!

My whole point is that you really don't know what someone's motivation for driving what they drive. Sam Walton used to drive an old pickup truck.

I do love cars and a spark might be on my short list next time I am in the market for a new car. My car is slowly turning into a commuter vehicle as now when me and she who must be obeyed go out it's usually in her car (it's newer, gets better gas mileage and a bit more comfortable). And with me picking up my Honda this weekend I will be driving my car less and less. So basic bare bones transportation sitting in traffic going to and from work is all I need So basic bare bones transportation sitting in traffic going to and from work is all I need.

But is it all you WANT? Guess this baby would be out of the question then? it would be awful to drive in my nightmare commute, could never come close to using it to anything near it's capacity.

    @ab348,
Congrats! and definitely the right choice for you. I was worried you'd ultimately be disappointed by the Fusion.

This would be just the thing if you were a regular shopper at Bass Pro Shops. This is a dealer who will not order anything without a black interior, but then they do this monument to questionable taste (the "customization" is apparently on spec and on their own dime) and have it sit on their showroom floor for many months. A real head-scratcher.
Someone will buy it......always find someone with no taste. Maybe they can sell it on the idea the cops won't spot you - with the camouflage look.
No the ideal is that the cops won't ticket you because they feel sorry for you for having to drive that thing.

these 2 storms are certainly going to be propping up car sales later this year. Though probably putting serious upside pressure on used prices. maybe I should start looking to buy ASAP
Yes buy now, if you buy later look carefully for flood damage.

I checked to see if my credit and social security info with bank info was compromised by the Equifax hacking breach.  My info "was" compromised.  Now I need to find out what I should do re: safeguarding my credit cards, bank info, etc.  :'(
We checked ours and they said ours wasn't compromised so we dodged this one but might take them up on the offer of the credit monitoring.
