Reading the posts commenting on the article is a study in hilarity and sanity. First off, the driver should have stopped instead of driving with a person wanting to identify the kid who threw the bottle at his car. Reckless.
Notice that nothing is mentioned in the article about discipline for the kid. Nothing. NADA. Most of the buses should have video cameras in them. But nothing mentioned. No wonder bus drivers are hard to find. The City of Dayton public schools can't get them to show up for their routes in many cases. They can't find substitute drivers. The kids are in charge is the problem. And then there's the parent that's completely insane in a few cases.
I remember way back in junior high school having a school bus driver that knew best how to handle it all. He drove trucks in the Korean war, so he wasn't easily excited. He'd issue a warning when things were getting too rowdy. The next step was pulling the bus to the side, getting off and smoking a cigarette. Kids started getting concerned about tardy slips in the morning or getting home in the afternoon, so it quickly quieted down. Can you imagine that today? He'd be fired...and this is just a snapshot of what is going wrong in America!

That's one of many reasons why I am so grateful that I no longer preside in Juvenile Court; today a kid has to be practically a serial killer before you can put him/her in detention- and the punks know this and ignore laws and court orders with the assurance that nothing will happen to them. A far cry from the days when I'd detain a kid for unexcused absences or for getting too many office or bus referrals...

A workmate told me that the highway I spend the most time on during my commute, Highway 97A, is the most dangerous highway for fatalities in the state of Washington. Immediately my mind went right to Subaru, of course. I get slightly OCD at times, but in a good way. Because it's centered on cars, it's good. But the Mrs. is really worried about me - my commute is 58 miles, stickguy. It takes 1 hour and 4 minutes in light traffic. As a Sleep Tech, I am up all night and I do get very, very tired at about 7:30AM, when I get off of work. I am completely convincing myself I could use a Subaru now - I really am.
The 2017/18 Subaru Impreza tracks very well and corners very well - anything helps - a nanny add-on like lane departure would probably help me in the morning commute back home - because I do nod off if I'm really tired!
You need something faster, like a TTRS so you can get home before you nod off.

That is certainly a problem in that the driver's hands are tied and the kids know it. I don't know about that state but most buses here have multiple cameras--mostly pointed at the driver.
A driver in a district near me had a problem with teens on his late route engaging in sexual mischief on the late bus so he divided the students by gender. Unfortunately for him two born females identified as "non conforming binary" and refused to sit with the girls. Politically correct bedlam ensued.
And they wonder why the can't get people to drive for the same wage they could get at McDonalds.

First off....let us get Thanksgiving settled....we had it first! The origins of Canadian Thanksgiving are more closely connected to the traditions of Europe than of the United States. Long before Europeans settled in North America, festivals of thanks and celebrations of harvest took place in Europe in the month of October. The very first Thanksgiving celebration in North America took place in 1578 in Canada when Martin Frobisher, an explorer from England. in search of the Northwest Passage. He wanted to give thanks for his safe arrival to the New World. That means the first Thanksgiving in Canada was celebrated 43 years before the pilgrims landed in Plymouth, Massachusetts!
RE: The guy holding onto the front of the bus. On TV this morning they praised the bus driver for driving with the guy hanging on.......to the local police station. I am with imid and others....no disciplinary actions taken against the kid for throwing the bottle is crazy! I am not sure the bus driver did the right thing either...if the guy fell off he would go right under the wheels.

I am not sure the bus driver did the right thing either...if the guy fell off he would go right under the wheels. I'm surprised the school bus didn't seem to have any communications gear on it. But given that, I go with the bus driver. You've got a possible madman in a rage, a bus with kids and school buses aren't the sturdiest built things. The driver's number 1 responsibility is the safety of those kids. If the guy had fallen off, I'd think even in a liberal court, a lawsuit would be a tough sell, as would be any jury conviction for a crime.
All I know is I am glad I was in the book business. Not too much chance of a dangerous situation or dealing with angry customers or kids. Some people like School Bus Drivers have a huge responsibility, for little pay.
As it turns out, the bus driver did the right thing, I think though there would be angry protesters if the lunatic did get run over. I can see the guys family, he was a good gentle guy, he must have been walking up to the bus to talk to the driver and just got something caught on the mirror...........
Sexual mischief, OF? Maybe when we were kids - but today’s kids are much more nonchalant about that stuff. It’s a part of their daily lives.
But segregating the kids is not the answer. A couple of buckshot rounds over their heads would quickly restore a positive demeanor in all bus riders. Problem solved!

Our district would probably have fired the driver for moving the bus, fired him if he didn't move the bus and the guy got in and fire him again for not radioing in for sensitivity training.

The choices of wrong words in many auto-related articles amazes me. Today's Dayton Daily Nothing that I get free online from a friend (who has 5 online shares to give) has an upscale article in business sections about how upscale folks in the area like the upscale lexus (toyota) products. Writer talks about how delivering a car used to be gas on the right, breaks on the left... etc..
It's the "Hooked on Phonics" Millennial generation!
Saw a Mustang yesterday with a rectangular red Cobra emblem in the middle of the rear fascia. Is there a new Cobra model?
It was dark grey. I never saw it from the side to inspect as we left the dual lane exit from a shopping/business tower/food&drink center. It has a big rear end like some Corvettes had a couple of editions back--too big. It had a growl to the exhaust. It had temporary paper license from TEXAS.

I don't drive the Beltway regularly but I've driven it enough to despise it. As for Pittsburgh's entry that is the primary route to the airport and I travel it at least monthly, albeit around 6AM when traffic is light so as to avoid congestion. Otherwise it's just a mess.
I'm actually really surprised the Squirrel Hill Tunnels aren't on this list. They've been the scene of miles long backups almost since they opened in the early 50's.

Agreed - any of the tunnels or bridges, really. Have they re-opened Liberty Bridge yet?
I don't travel it regularly anymore now that I work from home, but when I was traveling from Seattle, I took that route regularly to the airport. Interesting that the flip isn't also on the list, since rush hour on I-5 from south of the city is also particularly brutal.

It's open but they are still working on it, have been for the past 2 years, but there's intermittent closures. Don't know if this made its way out to Seattle but it caught fire last fall and was apparently on the brink of collapse due to a supporting member being weakened enough to close to failing. I had co-workers as far west as St. Louis tell me it made their local news. I had a birds eye view from the building I was in that that day, I'll see if I can dig up the pictures.

Absolutely, all of those South Hills folk were thrown a curveball for 2-3 weeks. I live in the South Hills too but more southwest so I have about 3 routes outside of the Liberty Bridge I can take into the city but I rarely, if ever drive to the office.
